The ONLY thing that makes me even think about buying a wildly overpriced Windows 8 tablet is the ability to use OneNote. The sad part is that S-Note is just so damned close to being a OneNote killer app but it seems like Samsung got 80% of the way there and JUST QUIT.
Let's start with the unreadable .snb standard. As far as I can tell, even .snb readers for Windows can't read it. Unless you export your S-Notes as .pdf''s you are pretty much screwed being able to view them on your Desktop. So why would Samsung choose such an obscure standard with zero compatibility? Next can we talk about Templates? How hard would it be for Samsung to include a Template Editor so the grown-ups can create and save their own Templates instead of being forced to use the few Samsung thinks we all want? How about being able to create and save typing styles? How about being able to restart voice recording on a previously created S-Note? How about being able to embed a recording within a specific spot in your S-Note? If I can embed a video why can't I embed a recording? One of the best things about OneNote is being able to search on written text. Samsung, any ideas on that? How about being able to place a typing cursor just by clicking the screen where I want it? How about automatically typing around pictures instead of over them? How about being able too cut and move blocks of text?
So much about S-Notes just doesn't seen done to me, but as far as I can tell, those crazy Koreans at Samsung think it's perfect as is.
Please Samsung, I don't want to buy a Windows 8 tablet but you are forcing my hand.
** I am hoping that the new Awesome Note app coming with the Note 8.0 will solve some of these issues assuming we'll be able port it to our Note 2.

Why don't u do the work and forward the post that you wrote here to Samsung ... you have a better chance of it happening i if you were to send your recommendations to Samsung ... Not many on here work for Samsung I am guessing ....
Maybe they just don't have creative people on this app. ... maybe they would give you something as a reward. .. never know until you try ... or you could learn Java code your own app and instant profit

Awesome idea! Please give me the personal email of the Head of S-Note Development at Samsung and I'll get right on that. While you are at it, link me to the Samsung Support Forums on their website - oh that's right, Samsung doesn't have Support Forums.
I'm so happy a super-connected guy like you came along to solve the problem.
Also, I really should have bought a Java book and rewritten the entire S-Notes app myself as you suggest. I'm so dumb. I could have made millions!

Why don't you do a search finding samsungs emails isnt that hard. Or you could just keep stomping your feet and crying about it. That's really productive. samsungs forum's aren't on samsung.com but Google can tell you how to find em if you actually, you know, searched.
Edit: just cuz I'm feeling nice http://developer.samsung.com/forum/en took all of 2 seconds searching "samsung + forum" on teh googlez
I like to break stuff!

Greetings all, I have been busting my brains trying to get the resolution proper on my S4 with the Awesome Note HD app. worked great on my S3 and would like to continue to use it. I've tried using the Xposed DPI per App module and it's not re-sizing the app appropriately. I know I have it installed and working as I can alter other apps. Any help trying to solve this issue would be greatly appreciated.
This baffles me as well. I've tried every option possible in Xposed, googled several threads and even enabled ALL permissions, but nothing works. Xposed will alter pretty much any app except Awesome Note.
Same here

I to have tried this but failed. Is there any way to do this people...
My guess would be find the XML file in the apk responsible for drawing this and the set the dimensions of it to wrap_content or fill_parent. Seems like it's hard coded.

If anyone can get it to work I'd be interested in using the app

No luck so far, but this is the first time I've ever tried modding an app. I've been able to locate and edit the layout, layout portrait and layout landscape xml files, but no change. Obviously I'm missing something (likely very simple). I'll keep researching/learning and post back with any updates.

Question to you: the fill_parent/wrap_content code is all over the layout xml files. Do I have to change every entry or should I be looking at a specific line?

Youre gonna have to figure out which one draws what you are looking at and what is not being drawn correctly. I hate xml, when i make programs, 90 percent of my layouts are made programmatically. thats how much i hate xml.

Damn, ever bit of this app is coded. Every tab, every title, every icon, every title. As far as I can see, the only way to get a real workable and attractive setup is to rewrite the graphics. I can get a few things to stretch - background now fills and bottom icons on main page are larger - but the right side dead space is still there and tab text remains the same, though the tab backgrounds have shifted and grew just a hair. Moving all of the files from the drawable-nodpi folder to the drawable folder allows Xposed to have some control, but not enough.
I think the biggest problem is our phones resolution. 1080 is just not supported properly. Though I did dig around and find a "true" listing for support of small, large and extra large screens. Personally, I'm beginning to hate this app, but I'll keep plugging away for the learning experience.
Mind you I am a COMPLETE NOVICE at this. If you'd like to see what I've been able to figure out thus far, and maybe add some input, I'll gladly send you the apk. Just PM me. I'm using @elesbb APK Tool which has a 2 second learning curve.

This sounds like the Camera APK i use a DPI of 320, and the camera is all fritz out and small. I decompiled it just to take a peek as i don't have the time right now to fix it, but it looks all hard coded and yes everything has to be coded even the tab, button, everything ANDROID IS FUN
Any news about this?
If anyone knows how to solve this problem, let me know, please!

I am new to android app development but am spending more and more time on these threads. I have a Verizon sgs4 with eclipse ROM. I would love to see the progress you've made with this app but I'm new and not sure how to message you. If you have time feel free to send me that apk and I'll see if I can try and help.
Did anyone get anywhere with this? This seems to be the only app that looks like it will do everything I want, but just isn't scaled correctly. Unless anyone knows of a good alternative?
I plan on transferring all of my apps and games over to my Nexus 7 II with Paranoid Android ROM installed from my Note II via Titanium Backup minus the Samsung only stuff in the coming days... will be using both devices depending on situation. Note II will be my never leave at home device while the Nexus will be for school and work. Figured I'd post this to give other people ideas about what to install on their amazing new devices since it can be time-consuming to search and navigate the market sometimes if you are new to the Android scene. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
Here are some screenshots of my Samsung Galaxy Note II smartphone as of 08.12.13. Four Apex Launcher Pro homescreens running in CleanROM V5.0 with Perseus Kernel V36.3... The screenshots include my most used and favorite apps somewhat sorted by category... have around 220 apps installed after months of stability and battery testing, but have narrowed it down to the best to be displayed on the 196 available spots due to the custom 7x7 grid... check it out if you need some new Android apps!
Nexus 7 II (2013)... transfer from Note II a work in progress, but feel free to find some new apps and leave suggestions about ones that I should try in the comments. Thanks!

did you throw up in this thread jeezzzz
Amazing job :victory:
OP, with all due respect, you might just be stark-raving mad. Why are you dumping all of your apps on your home screens? Are you aware that the Android operating system has an app drawer?
I have the Nova Launcher going and I have only 3 homescreens enabled and really only use 1. The app drawer is where I have defined categories (e.g. 'Media' or 'Games') for my apps. My homescreen is limited to providing quick access to the apps I use VERY FREQUENTLY (e.g. 'Tasks', 'Maps', 'Messaging') and for the widgets which relay the most important information to me, such as 'To Do' lists, which use the Google Tasks API.
I can't begin to understand your approach.

In going to have to agree. Also seeing all those persistent notifications is driving me wild...completely defeats the purpose!
One question, considering you recommend these specifically for Nexus 7v2.
Are all these apps compatible with Android 4.3?
Because I can't say that they can be a "Must Have" if they'll crash or only work 50% of the time.
cool
I was assuming the OP just installed all of these apps, and hadn't moved the icons to their permanent location yet. I could be wrong, but I can't imagine anyone just plastering their home screens with all of their apps! Could be how the OP has it setup for use though, who knows and who cares! Who are we to judge how anyone else uses or sets up their devices? It's their device and they can set it up and use it however they please. After all, it would be a boring world if everyone setup and used their devices IDENTICAL to everyone else. Not my cup of tea, but to each their own, and definitely not anyone's place to judge how others use their devices......

Oh for crying out loud. You are just being a bleeding heart. The guy posted 20 pictures of his home screen on xda...he made a topic just to share his setup. He was obviously looking for some sort of input. If he was self contiguous about his home screens, making a topic and posting his home screens isn't the best idea in the world. I wasn't being disparaging, so your long, politically correct post is unneeded. Wasn't even making a big deal about his homescreens, just left a sentence stating my opinion.

I didn't quote you or point a finger at you, so cry to someone else because I don't care to hear it. I even said that I don't like the setup myself, so I was pointing the finger at myself as much as I was anyone else! Read my post again! Sorry that you got your feelings hurt over something I said in my post.
He did NOT start this thread "just to share his setup" and get feedback on it, you might want to re-read the OP. He stated these were "must have apps" and was sharing the app titles, NOT sharing his setup and "looking for some sort of input ". Lol. Again, sorry you got butt-hurt over a post that wasn't even directed at you. You might wanna get some thicker skin before posting on a public forum for the world to read. All I did was state my opinion, like you said you were doing as well. The only "big deal" that was made was by you, getting so defensive about my post which wasn't even directed at you.
Also, what do you mean by "self contiguous"?
Have a nice day, and refrain from quoting me in the future.

I got my Galaxy Note for the sole purpose of taking notes in class, but I've had a lot of issues with the S Note app and I'm seriously considering returning it. I was wondering if anyone else experienced the same issues as me.
First off, when I try to import a pdf with a large number of pages, it just gets stuck on the Importing... screen for a long time. I thought this might be because it is converting to pdf in some way. Also while it's converting the back near the camera area gets very warm.
Secondly, while I was in class and taking notes, the stupid S Notes app starting lagging. I would draw a pencil stroke, and it would take about 5 seconds for the stroke to show up on the screen! This happens usually after writing on it for about 10 minutes or so and it only happens in the S-Note app.
And my last issue was the paper choices and sizes. They don't let you use regular sized U.S paper. And the paper has a weird brown color on it, so if you print it you'll see an ugly brown shade behind it. I really wish they would fix this app.
Also, I tried lecture notes, but it just doesn't write as smoothly as S-Note. I want to make it work, but unless Samsung releases an update soon, I might have to go back to pen and paper.
Is anyone else experiencing the same issues as me?
I'm having similar problems on my side. I really hate the zoom occurring while my palm is on the screen. Is there no way to lock the screen? No matter what I do the page keeps shifting. The three finger pinch to show the menu sucks because it keeps zooming the page. I tried switching to lecture notes, but just as you said it is not as smooth.

I don't have problem number 2, I'm not sure why you're having that problem. But for problem number one, I use ezPDF and just take snapshots of things I want in the PDF. That way i can just copy and paste into my notes.

I have tried that and it'll still go on the fritz every now and then. Also, you should check out the adobe reader app. I tried ezPDF but reader does the same stuff and is free, less crowded, and a bit smother.

Yea, I've started using ezPDF which isn't too terrible. It does have a slightly unattractive interface but it gets the job done. I also did a factory reset and hopefully that will fix my issues with the strokes taking unbearably long to show up on the page (maybe there was a conflict with some other software). I'm still waiting for my Samsung Perks, so I can buy the full version of ezPDF.
I really hope Samsung works out there issues. I'm seriously considering returning this and buying the old Galaxy 10.1 model. That one seems to have a better S Note app, and for half the price.

Try Note AnyTime, this is free, by a japaneese Company ( MetaMoJi).
This is good for note taking.
I dropped S-Notes, because it cannot cut/copy and paste hand written note.
So if you want to move part of your hand written sentence to another area,
which is more appropriate, without re-writing it, you are out of luck.
That is the biggest problem, as far as I am concerned.
The work around was not acceptable to me, which is as follows.
You can take a snapshot of the whole screen and crop only the interested hand written part, and
re-use it, but that means, you have converted your hand writing, to a bitmap, with all the back ground image.
This is horrible, do not know how they can release S-Note without this basic feature.
Mind that, Note AnyTime does not have to shape rendering feature ( hand drawn circle to perfect circle),
or the formula rendering feature.
But I can leave with it.
Hope that helps.

There's a lot of suggestions on how to improve smoothness on Lecture Notes here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2473844

Hi. Has anyone tried to edit a photo using the default Gallery app? Coming from the S7 and S8, I find the editing functions in the app so lacking. There is not even away to change the brightness or sharpness or anything like that. (See attachments)
The funny thing is, when I read online tutorials, people explains about functions I do not see in my app. So I thought I'd make a post to see if someone has similar experiences

Tap the dots on the upper right corner and select open in Photo Editor Pro. Your best results (shadows, highlights etc) will be using raw files - shot in Pro mode.
