I plan on transferring all of my apps and games over to my Nexus 7 II with Paranoid Android ROM installed from my Note II via Titanium Backup minus the Samsung only stuff in the coming days... will be using both devices depending on situation. Note II will be my never leave at home device while the Nexus will be for school and work. Figured I'd post this to give other people ideas about what to install on their amazing new devices since it can be time-consuming to search and navigate the market sometimes if you are new to the Android scene. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
Here are some screenshots of my Samsung Galaxy Note II smartphone as of 08.12.13. Four Apex Launcher Pro homescreens running in CleanROM V5.0 with Perseus Kernel V36.3... The screenshots include my most used and favorite apps somewhat sorted by category... have around 220 apps installed after months of stability and battery testing, but have narrowed it down to the best to be displayed on the 196 available spots due to the custom 7x7 grid... check it out if you need some new Android apps!
Nexus 7 II (2013)... transfer from Note II a work in progress, but feel free to find some new apps and leave suggestions about ones that I should try in the comments. Thanks!

did you throw up in this thread jeezzzz
Amazing job :victory:
OP, with all due respect, you might just be stark-raving mad. Why are you dumping all of your apps on your home screens? Are you aware that the Android operating system has an app drawer?
I have the Nova Launcher going and I have only 3 homescreens enabled and really only use 1. The app drawer is where I have defined categories (e.g. 'Media' or 'Games') for my apps. My homescreen is limited to providing quick access to the apps I use VERY FREQUENTLY (e.g. 'Tasks', 'Maps', 'Messaging') and for the widgets which relay the most important information to me, such as 'To Do' lists, which use the Google Tasks API.
I can't begin to understand your approach.

In going to have to agree. Also seeing all those persistent notifications is driving me wild...completely defeats the purpose!
One question, considering you recommend these specifically for Nexus 7v2.
Are all these apps compatible with Android 4.3?
Because I can't say that they can be a "Must Have" if they'll crash or only work 50% of the time.
cool
I was assuming the OP just installed all of these apps, and hadn't moved the icons to their permanent location yet. I could be wrong, but I can't imagine anyone just plastering their home screens with all of their apps! Could be how the OP has it setup for use though, who knows and who cares! Who are we to judge how anyone else uses or sets up their devices? It's their device and they can set it up and use it however they please. After all, it would be a boring world if everyone setup and used their devices IDENTICAL to everyone else. Not my cup of tea, but to each their own, and definitely not anyone's place to judge how others use their devices......

Oh for crying out loud. You are just being a bleeding heart. The guy posted 20 pictures of his home screen on xda...he made a topic just to share his setup. He was obviously looking for some sort of input. If he was self contiguous about his home screens, making a topic and posting his home screens isn't the best idea in the world. I wasn't being disparaging, so your long, politically correct post is unneeded. Wasn't even making a big deal about his homescreens, just left a sentence stating my opinion.

I didn't quote you or point a finger at you, so cry to someone else because I don't care to hear it. I even said that I don't like the setup myself, so I was pointing the finger at myself as much as I was anyone else! Read my post again! Sorry that you got your feelings hurt over something I said in my post.
He did NOT start this thread "just to share his setup" and get feedback on it, you might want to re-read the OP. He stated these were "must have apps" and was sharing the app titles, NOT sharing his setup and "looking for some sort of input ". Lol. Again, sorry you got butt-hurt over a post that wasn't even directed at you. You might wanna get some thicker skin before posting on a public forum for the world to read. All I did was state my opinion, like you said you were doing as well. The only "big deal" that was made was by you, getting so defensive about my post which wasn't even directed at you.
Also, what do you mean by "self contiguous"?
Have a nice day, and refrain from quoting me in the future.

And by the way... Thanks for sharing the screenshots.

I picked up a Samsung Epic for my daughter who is 6, has helped her a ton with reading and spelling by the excitement of sending and receiving text messages from some family members.
On her phone I would like her to be able to access select items that I create widgets or short cuts too on her screens, however I would like her to not be able to access any "settings", market or any app I haven't set on her desktop.
Anyone know a great app to do this with?
The apps that I have on her desktop are:
Phone/Contacts/Messaging
Camera/Gallery
My Coffee Card (widget)
Picture Frame (widget)
Zoodles
Chess
Pure Weather Widget
Pure Calendar Widget
and a Flash light widget.
She quickly figured out the phone, how to work the market, change her wall paper, change her ring tones and most everything else..Would just like to limit her access and use of the device.
Thanks a ton!
http://www.appbrain.com/app/smart-lock-2-0/com.goldfishview.smartlock
http://www.appbrain.com/app/toddler-lock/marcone.toddlerlock
Thanks for the links, but not really what I am looking for. More of something that won't let her create any short cuts or widgets, not not access any settings and not be able to open the app drawer without a code.
Something like this might not be present yet, however I think it is something many parents would pay for.
You could try using a custom launcher for example adw launcher
U can place whatever u want on the desktop and there's a "lock desktop" option so nothing can change wich can b found by pressing menu on the homescreen
And then u can go to the adw settings > general behavior > system prefences. And over there u can uncheck any option u don't want to show up on the menu button so uncheck "lock screen" so it won't show up and ur daughter won't b able to unlock the homescreens to change stuff
Also u may creat a category for the app drawer and remove any apps u don't want her to open so it will only show the ones you chose to show up
And I guess that will solve ur problem..?

I have to agree. We considered it for a while, the pros and cons. After all consideration we went with it as an educational tool.
We didn't want her to feel dependent upon it or become overly obsessed with it however there was a void in her spelling and reading abilities.. Almost over night her ability to spell and read increased greatly!
She has played Angry Birds and watched Hanna Montanna vids from YouTube (uncle and aunts doing), however her options to text message and play Zoodles has been great! One of the cool things as well, we went out to a Starbucks and she set up the Chess board for us to play, she has Chess on her phone.
Thanks for all the feedback, will try out that idea with a launcher tomorrow.
Adw launcher would have the better options I guess for what you seek. Glad to hear someone else realize the benefit of android for kids!

Child Proof Gadget-Child Lock
A new app is there in google play store. It is also useful if your kid is playing with your android phone. It has all required features, with this its size is very small and it is harmless for your phone. It locks phones homescreen, calls, sms, settings everything which you don't want to allow the kid. it has a facility to create separate 'kid area', where kid can access only allowed apps.
App name : Child Proof Gadget-Child Lock
On XDA, sometimes you come across a thread with dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of replies. Most normal humans don't have the time to read through such a large number of replies in order to find the most useful posts. Today, we're making it much easier for you to find the best replies that get buried within a thread. Introducing the Most-Thanked Widget. It lives in the sidebar (of the 2013 theme) and displays which posts have received the most amount of Thanks. It's divided into All-Time and Recent to help you find the most timely and useful posts. You can help make the Most-Thanked widget even better by being sure to use the Thanks button whenever you spot a useful post across the XDA Forums.
A few other details:
Right now, the Most-Thanked widget is only available for logged-in members as we tweak its performance. However, we'll soon be rolling it out to guests
The widget ignore post 1, because most people know that post 1 often contains the most useful information; we didn't want to be redundant
All members are limited to eight Thanks per day. Use your Thanks wisely!
The Most-Thanked widget is a work in progress! We'll be tweaking its logic over the coming weeks and months to make it as useful as possible. Thanks for your patience. Feel free to provide some feedback here

^^ Glad to see I'm not the only one who's still on the 2010 theme then It's so much nicer and more user friendly IMO.
Great idea, brilliant for overcrowded threads. Could you add an "option" or tab to leave out the posts by the OP? Having the posts has both advantages and disadvantages, as the users tend to thank the OP a lot. On the other hand, the OP only posts updates, so not having their post in the tab would be bad. That's why you should add a choice, best for both Maybe just limit the no. of posts by OP to 1 or 2
Great idea. Thanks for this svetius.
I'm finding it a little bit laggy at the moment but I'd figure that's just because it's only just been implemented. It's not a major lag though

It's a cool idea and even nicer to see I'm in both all time top 5's of the ICS and JB version of the ROM I support
Only niggle for me is that it takes the place of the existing widget (messages/threads/forums) so you have to go back out of the thread to then see your subscribed threads again. I use this to navigate the threads I want to read as have links to all the forums I moderate so not too bothered about those. Would be cool to have a subscription (or whatever you want to call it) and thanks tab or something along those lines so you can then still have quick access to both when in a thread.
As for those still preferring the 2010 theme, once you're used to it the 2013 theme is so much nicer to use and I've never viewed the portal as much as I do now thanks to the 5 most recent posts always being shown on the sidebar. I love it!

sir.. great idea.. thanks for this.. as its new i know it might have bugs..
so it seems there is a bug.. if the posts shown dont have titles.. then the title if its there for above post in thanks widget is shown for the below one too.. which is kinda annoying.. as they might be totally unrelated posts.. also some posts shown in widget doesnt have appropriate link to the actual post when clicked..
also 1 suggestion: please provide the message, threads, forums widget inside threads too along with this widget.. it helps a lot..
thanks for the widget again..
Edit: oops.. sorry for second post.. i could have edit the above one. i forgot that i wrote.

Start slow. If this is not your first android, then start with what apps you already had on your prior phone,

If this is your first android get used to the android world. Key is to not hurry. and you will learn and get used to things.

hello and welcome to xda !
first of all try read to learn about amazing android features (root, flashing, etc)
if you have any question, ther's Q&A section
and don't forget to search before asking because i bet that all your questions had been asked before :fingers-crossed:
Hi there and welcome. To add on to what the other guys said, the best way to go is to just look through all the menus and get familiar with where the various settings and options are and what they do.
Look up some blogs or posts that go over the basics of android and customisation. For example alternative home screens like apex launcher and Nova launcher are quite popular and really great if you want to make your home screen really stand out.
Also look into alternative keyboards if you find that the stock keuboard doesn't suit you to well. Keyboards like swift key and thumb keyboard are quite popular.
And as someone else already mentioned, going through the q&a section is a good way to learn about any issues and questions others have already asked.
Have fun

that's fine, I understand, I have no issue with XDA asking for donation or anything. But how is this an reason for an independent forum app? There are thousands of forums, many with millions of members and I am a member of many forums. I don't see the logic for me to download independent app for each of these forum if they each had one.

USER-PREFERENCE,
i never use tapatalk,
i use the xda app FYI,
it's XDA's project,
and from my point of view,
i find it pretty useful since i only have XDA as my active forum so why bother getting a 3rd-party app when you can download a version directly from XDA.

it's kinda rude, saying that XDA is doing it for bucks,
since they did this to provide users an independent forum app,
you justified the means without proper knowledge,
And to put it, Tapatalk is a paid app. And XDA offers free as well as premium app. So users who don't have Tapatalk has the option to get the free XDA app, if they have only registered on XDA for browsing the forums. Not many users are members of different forums.
i got both...but to be honest i only use XDA app now as this is the only forum i check. and if by me having the premium version helps support for the maintenance of the site, it is the least i can do for what i have learned from XDA over the last two years and the goodies that i have done to my phone to make it better
The reason? I find 1.50 € for learning english a very, very, fair price (i have both premium apps)

my question was direction at people who post at a number of forums, use tapatalk and use XDA app as well. I don't get the point of having XDA app.
Im using it rightnow.. well its a choice by thet way..

More choices in how you want to browse xda is not a bad thing.
I don't understand the problem.

Reread your thread title and OP. Nowhere does it state that it's directed to people who use multiple forums, and you probably would have received different replies completely if you had made that clear. All you did was make the XDA app seem useless, which is wrong, because for people who only use XDA there's no point paying for tapatalk.

Personally, I don't see any difference between the two. They are identical to me, except that Tap can have multiple forums in it, obviously.
But I am having a problem with both and can't use any of the four forum apps I have purchased:
XDA Premium (phone)
XDA HD (tablet)
TapaTalk HD
TapaTalk 2
Don't get me wrong, I am more than happy to support the developers! I'm not bragging, but I have purchased about 300 apps in the last year and most of them worked fine without paying for them. I just wanted to make clear that this is not about complaining because of spending the money. I just sincerely want to be able to use them and I can't use any of the four.
What I mean by that, is that after scouring XDA and Google, I cannot find any help on how to view messages that I have received email notifications for, like when someone responds directly to one of your posts, or even when they post in a thread/forum you are Subscribed to.
I know that I can go into the XDA/TapaTalk (2) apps and go to:
LATEST >> PARTICIPATED
... But that doesn't take me to the posts that I have been notified about, like if I tap the link in the email and it takes me right to the message, ya know?
So I end up tapping the link and trying to view the messages in the browser on my phone, but since XDA does not have a mobile version of their web site, I end up double-tapping it to try to blow it up and then moving it all around the screen, back and forth, to try to read the message.
And of course, posting that way is Hell! It is very difficult to get it to go back up in the message and you can't even see a whole sentence, because it's blown up and the regular display is microscopic!
Does anyonne know how it is done? I love the concept of these apps, but I cannot believe that they would have left that sort of feature out, given that people would constantly be responding to posts they are notified about, right?
So I figure that I must be missing something. But I have looked at these apps for almost a year now (and recently purchased the new TapaTalk 2, hoping it had stuff the original doesn't) and I just can't find how to do this.
Does anyone know how this is done? Please?
Again, going to LATEST >> PARTICIPATED does not list/take me to the messages I am being notified about. The threads are in the list somewhere, I'm sure, but I'm hoping to do it like I do when I tap on the link in an email message. It would be really cool if you tapped on one and it opened Tap right to that specific message that you're being notified about!
I may have missed this answer somewhere in these forums, but I swear, I did scour them as best I could and I just cannot find this specific help! Nor did I find any help from the Tap folks, except how a forum owner could add their forum and a Google search produced the same result.
I apologize for the long message. I just wanted to make sure that I was absolutely clear, so that folks did not just guide me to "LATEST >> PARTICIPATED".
Thanks!!!

Big post.
So basically what you want is when you click on a link on any other app (mail for eg. since its giving you notifications). You need to clear all the defaults you have set around with your browsers. (do it from settings»applications»manage»here).
After that whenever you click on a link, it will show up a popup to chose the app to procede for the link. If the link is from xda use tapatalk (it'll take you to the post right away), if from other site, use your preffered browser. Again do not set anything as default as tapatalk cannot open other sites and you will need to clear the defaults again.
A Hero Can Be Anyone.
Dear Bruce Wayne,
Okay, I did what you said and it did not take me to the exact message. But it did take me to the same page, which makes it just a matter of scrolling down a few swipes up worth to scroll down to the message, which is certainly plenty good enough!
Plus, now I understand why this app's default posts per page is set to 10.
Thanks a bunch for your help, Bruce! I mean that! I can now, finally, use TapaTalk after a year of owning it! And that's because you took a few minutes out of your time to answer my question simply and plainly, without first assuming a certain level of knowledge on my part and I really appreciate that!
And I'm sincerely not trying to patronize you. As I said, I do mean that. It can be very difficult to get help, when so many people see a question as being "stupid" and you can't find anything on the web, ya know?
There was one thing I noticed though in the TapaTalk 2 app, which was that there was no option to "Quote" when responding (I wanted to quote a couple of sentences of you response when I replied).
Is there a trick to making it show that option that you know of?
If there isn't one, how would you know if it's responding to the message you're looking at on the screen?
Sorry to bother you again, Bruce! Last time, I promise!

Hi testers,
I've developed the app Timesheet. It's an app for keeping track of your work hours for payroll reporting, billing etc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2217159
I think, compared to the competitors, it got the most complete feature set. But i'am only getting 60-100 downloads a day, and currently the retention rate is a dismal 25%. Why?
The few ratings the app got is good (4.3), but i need critical feedback!
Why do downloaders uninstall the app?
Is the app to complicated?
Is the app poorly designed?
Is the app missing some key feature?
Is the app buggy?
Is it the ads?
Is is the lack of translations?
What is it!?
Please download, it's free, and give it a try. Then tell me whats wrong, the cold truth!

Hey! I saw your app and was really eager to test it out. However, I decided not to because I saw it required a lot of permissions; most of these permissions I did not feel comfortable giving the app. I was planning on using this to audit my payroll for myself.
I think having too many sensitive permissions is not good for this type of app in my opinion. Things like reading my personal information, my accounts, to me seems a bit much for something I was just going to use to audit my payroll.
I hope this helps! Good luck And I look forward to see how this project progresses.

Thanks for the feedback.
I've suspected potential user might see this as an issue. I think i'll move some features to optional plug-ins to reduce the permissions requirements, like READ_CALL_LOG (used by phone tasks) and MANAGE_ACCOUNTS/AUTHENTICATE_ACCOUNTS (used by ftp client).
Very good

Trying it now.. BRB
I will test it out and report back to you. Looks nice i like the UI. Who made the 3D looking icon ? I like it

Greatful for any and all feedback.
I made the icon myself according to the Android design guidelines. Tip. Make you icons in Illustrator for a crisp result in all resolutions.

Sweet alright thanks for the tip. Ive never used illustrator im a Photoshop guy but ill give it a try. Also i tried the app and i had a few issues getting around the UI i got a bit lost but i looks stable and also idk why but maybe just integrate the 3 icons you have installed into one that way it doesnt clutter the homescreen, i know some users dont like having 3 icons for one app. Maybe include a side bar sorta like G+ does.

Thanks for the feedback.
I've heard others getting lost . The problem is that the app is a bit complicated. The view and data structure is both hierarchical (Main > Projects > Tasks > Expenses/Breaks) and wide at each level (Details, Tasks/Breaks, Expenses, Files). I've looked at the side drawer but it doesn't really fit the hierarchy part.
The app actually had three seperate launcher icons in earlier versions. Now it just adds the two additional home screen shortcuts. But even these will be removed in the next version.

I'll check it out, I've been looking for a good finance managing application anyways

I love the set up and the simplicity, one thing I think you could add to make it better is a start date on the project page, I found it confusing to backdate my project until I went on the calander and added it that way. Also as a former door-to-door salesman and now a subcontractor for construction one other thing I found frustrating is there iz no pay by the week, by the sale or by the job option sometimes I work odd hours and get payed compensation, sometimes I work odd hours and get payed by the job, and sometimes I work odd hours and get payed by the week so if you could add that it would become the perfect app for me

And one last thing to top it all off would be a total income/outgoing page a way to track what im making and spending in the time to come.

Timesheet is should really be used to punch in every time you begin work. That's why the start date is set to today when creating a new task. But as you found out, the History tab is the quickest way to add past time entries.
Change the timespan in the Overview/Details tab to see income, overtime and expenses per day, week, month, etc..

Timesheet isn't intended to be used as a calendar to register future work. But that sounds like an interesing feature we could incorporate better support for.

I was looking under internationalization-> currency and noticed there was no UK (Pound Sterling) or have I missed something???
My first impression is that the app is a little daunting... but then I have never looked at a timesheet app before!
If you are you using Androids analytics you can get a good understanding of the areas people use the most. This is a good way to analyse your app, and make decisions in terms of UI.
Sorry I can't be more useful I'm not your target market

Yeah, it’s a bit over engineered. But with so much features it’s hard to keep it simple.
Since i posted this thead, we’ve added alot of features and made the UI a bit more flashy, and it helped alot. The app now got 300+ downloads a day with a retention rate around 30%. It’s top 5 of it’s kind so i think the app has reached it’s peek.
Hi there. I tried your app months ago when I was searching for... well a "timesheet" app. I was one of those who uninstalled your app. One of the common problems here in our small company was having to fill up these excel sheets. I thought your app could help me track my work hours, just to find out it was a bit complicated than what I was expecting. I only wanted to track my work hours. Basically I just wanna know how many hours I spent in a project for that day. In your app I needed to input my hours first before actually starting with my task. I know this is not the proper way to handle projects and all, but there are times when we need to insert some side jobs in between projects. So there you go.

You don't have to input the hours before you've done the task! You just begin the task and then later end it.

Any Timesheet users here who downloaded the latest version 1.2.7?
If so have anyone tried the voice commands?
Sufficient testing was impossible since the emulator doesn't have any Speech Recognition engine!
