[Kernel][Apr 26] Perseus - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

This is a direct port of my kernel on the international I9300 Galaxy S3 and sidekick to the international N7100/5 Note 2 kernels.
Recap of features:
CPU overclocking up to 1.8GHz and undervolting from 600mV to 1400mV.
GPU overclocking and undervolting.
GPU scaling reworked.
Screen sharpness and colour modifications.
Extended Pegasusq and improved Performance governors.
Removed Touch Booster and replaced with custom Flexrate mechanic.
Improved scheduler power management for improved idle residencies on auxiliary CPUs.
USB charging rate limit increased to 900mA.
This is supposed to be merely a proxy thread. Please refer to the N7100/5 thread for full changelogs, explanations, bug-reports and other issues. Kernel for specific device versions will be posted here.
This kernel is for the North American AT&T variant SGH-i317 and Canadian SGH-i317m for Rogers, Telus, Bell, and SaskTel. Versions for other variants are found in their respective forums.

@AndreiLux
Probably should mention in the op that this will work for i317m....to avoid it being asked a few times. There are many new users to Note 2.
Thanks!

Is the Zip flashable in TWRP? (I know some are only scripted for CWM). Answer=yes. I flashed in TWRP with no problems.
Also, has anybody flashed this yet? I am going to try it, but don't want to be the first! (Edit: I see blkghost is).
Has anybody that flashed it noticed if it eliminates the lag waking the phone from deep sleep? This is what I intend to test first on the kernel. Edit: nope

I can confirm this as well (just tried and it works fine).
For those who aren't aware, the i317m is the Canadian Galaxy Note 2, so for Rogers, Telus, Bell, and SaskTel.

AndreiLux - no issues came up. Seems to run the same as it did on the n7100 (which makes perfectly good sense.)

I added it, thanks for the heads up. Usually all variants with a post-fix will work, as they only have ROM related differences.
And the zip also works with TWRP.

@AndreiLux - I assume your compiling from 317 sources? Is your source on GH, or do you provide tar balls?

I'll try to save people some headaches and questions (though I know most won't bother to read.)
You can use "setCPU" from the play store to set min/max speeds, voltages, etc.
On undervolting... Every SOC (processor) is different. You have to test your own, as the settings that work for someone else might crash yours. If you aren't comfortable doing that, you might just leave voltages alone. So far, I'm seeing much lower voltages (better undervolt) on my i317 when compared to my n7100. However, others with the n7100 were able to undervolt much further than I was. They all have the same SOC (processor.)

My fault then. Apologies.
Edit: I've been awake almost 30 hours. So possibly why I missed it and doesn't make sense to me. Lol.

Actually, his GH might be a tiny bit out of date (depending on which USB/MTP drivers are in the kernel posted in the OP), but if it is, he's really good about getting it up to date.
If you're trying to recreate the work, config options are compiled into the procfs.

To lazy to recreate. Lol.
Good point, guess I didn't think about the 6 different version of the note! Thanks for setting me straight Gary.

I didn't touch the i317 sources, I'm using my own mix of bases. Gary is correct, as I stated in OP, I have a single base for the i9300, i9305, N7100, N7105, T889, L900, R950, i317. (And Verizon variant also probably coming up...)
The current sources on GH are up to date except for the USB Gadget ones affecting MTP, I'll upload that once it passes through the other devices, as they might still need changing due to OSX. They're the newest stock ones anyway.
I kindly remind people that this is supposed to be just a proxy thread for the N7100 thread. The only reason I'm posting it here is that I'm trying to minimize the stupidity of people in flashing the wrong versions, and to increase its visibility.

AndreiLux, does the version posted here resolve the busybox issue I was seeing?

Running this kernel oc'ed to 1.8 and am stable. Looking good. Using System Tuner for controls.

ummm I did flash it, I was one of the first to jump on to it and just flash. I don't think I have menetioned that I didn't like. Only thing I said was now is just a waiting game due to the fact after flashing everything needs to settle in. I do not understand where you got the idea where I didn't flash it and where I didn't like it. Of course I know the stock kernel is there since I do read everything. *unlike someone* yes I had typo's since I barely woke up and just hopped right on to it

Running good op! Thank you for your effort!

Confirmed the Kernal is giving me a boost from ~5400 Quadrant Standard Benchmark to ~6200. A noticable boost in framerate. Time to test with NFS: Most Wanted.

Flashed and it running great... I've noticed some improvement in waking from a sleep state... 8)

That depends...have you been restoring data each time you do this? Before you toss it in the river I would try a clean Odin, root, flash the EI22 modem delta, then try Legendary ROM and see how the speed is before downloading some of your apps fresh. You can even grab Voltage Control and OC a little to see if that gets you a little more speed.

Haha Supposedly but when i start to lag i overclock and after a few minutes re clock back to normal ( 1000/100) and whatever I/0 Scheduler and Governor.
If its true i been OC'ing Max a lot haven't seen any decrease in performance.
It can kill your phone yes, if your phone cant handle it so much. IE Heating pads,etc... every phone's different as i'm sure you know that.

what is the point of overclocking that much you are just bound to have issues + i find 1200 with a gpu boost to 250-300 is perfect

Overclocking?

having had a D1(RIP) that i overclocked the pure hell out of. I must ask, Why is the fastest overclock im seeing for the galaxy nexus only .15ghz or 150mhz more then stock max?
With my old D1 we saw clock speeds over 2x stock max. I thought processors were getting better...(maybe thats a broad statement to make but i want to go faster!)

Our SoC variant already has heating issues at stock frequencies.
You should warn the potential users about this.

Wow, you don't realize the boost in daily usage, your phone gets hotter-> not good for the battery and all that for some points in an useless benchmarking app... Sounds smart 10/10 would recommend
You have no more thermal engine working..
I used the same mod on my ZUK Z2 Pro before, but it's not useful anymore now with a Snapdragon 845.
We should wait a new Kernel (probably a custom one) with a good thermal management for power.

Every power boost are welcome. I still have little frame rate drops in some games.
Rooting this phone is too risky to justify any marginal boost in performance you think you might gain. There is no independent development for the 2S yet, no official TWRP and no official support from Magisk. Multiple people have reported that the unofficial TWRP boot looped or bricked their phones. How does anyone justify potentially destroying their phone when rooting will provide such limited benefits?
Well there is a reason probably why others bootloop probably because of reset I successfully rooted my phone without resetting.

I think this kernel will make your experience better, although I wouldn't want to carelessly run intensive games or other apps with low battery %. It might work, but it might suffer a low voltage system crash. Usually harmless but it can cause data loss or corruption. Your Pixel C (and mine, and others) is trying to throttle because it does not trust the battery's health. In my case I am pretty confident the battery is stronger than my tablet believes. But I could be wrong!

Yes, it is compiled from an earlier version. I do not chase updates .

The fixed kernel.

Yeah, I think that my tablet is also underestimating the battery, for a refurbished by Google early 2016 model RMAed in mid 2018, the battery should have been replaced, else it is a new model, don't know but I got my tablet back in bubble wrap
Either way, we're all getting the exact same issue, and it seems LTE models aren't affected
1.9GHz would mean "HECK IT'S FASTER THAN THE SWITCH" memes...
By the way, if anyone knows the 4 cores vs 8 cores Tegra X1 controversy, and why we have only 4 showing on the C even though there's two clusters of 4 in big.LITTLE, that might be interesting, maybe the mighty @followmsi could answer this pls ?

Yeah, I think there was at some point some form of dragon-lte announced at the time of the release back in 2015, but I never saw one, so I guess it doesn't exist in a better form than a prototype

I don't know anything about an LTE prototype but I do remember lots of confusion back then about whether the X1 ran in full 8 core mode like the SD 810 or 4 cores at a time like it actually does.
