I just got the galaxy S3 on at&t and I chose it over the One X (despite costing $100 more than the One X) because the features seemed really cool. S-Voice and other little things that would make life a little easier. Stuff like s-beam, s-voice, various motion things, swipe to screenshot, etc. Google now is so much faster than s-voice though and pretty much everything else can be achieved with third party apps. So now I'm wondering if I should return the s3 and get a One X or not.a
Any comments or suggestions that can male this choice easier?

Read the forum. It's not like there aren't 100 other threads regarding this same subject already.
Oh, and see my signature.
S3 would be be an ideal choice than HTC One X.
Ok i will change it up. HOX no way, I but HOX+ I would say that is worth entertaining when it is released.
The only thing worth having in the HOX is its screen. It uses the same cpu, less memory, lower battery, no sd and bootloader locked (I believe it is still the same but not 100%.)
HOX+ will have better screen, less ram, faster cpu and same size battery as S3. Also I believe the HOX+ will come out at either 32gb or 64gb.
Hopefully that helps a little.

Unless I hear the One X+ has an unlockable bootloader on AT&T, I'm keeping my sgs3. The reason I switched to this phone was the bootloader shenanigans.
Had the One X with Rogers for 2 months then went to SGSIII. Nuff said
I switched from a One X too. Gs3 hands down better

Samsung optimizes their phones a lot better than HTC. There's also fewer bugs. Material wise, the HTC are better though.

This phone has the same polycarbonate as the one x. It just has a different finish.
Samsung is the king of android right now and it seems they will be for a long time. The optimization, features and power combo are the ultimate in phones/ tablets

I too came from a Hox, but I switched bc I couldn't unlock the bootloader. The thing I loved about the Hox was its beauty, it was the most beautiful device I've owned. I didn't like the screen honestly bc I could see the grid on it (drove me insane)

So if I'm gonna root it and install Cyanogenmod or maybe AOKP, is the GS3 worth the $100 premium?
I say yes, absolutely. Especially if you also keep in mind the the OX doesn't have expandable storage. We have great development support in the community and your phone will perform better than you thought possible.
Galaxy S3 AOKP 4.1.2 JB.
My gf has the gs3 and I have a one s that has the same chip as the hox. I have no idea were the gs3 has more power comment has come from. Out of the box it was just hitting between 4000 and 4500 on quadrant. My one s out of the box was 4500 and up. Running sense on my one s and a over clocked kernel to 2.1ghz I'm getting between 6000 and 6500. I put her gs3 on task and knootesz aokp with the 2.1ghz kernel and I'm lucky if her phone hits 5000. Even in linpack it only gets a 45. She also has been asking me to make her phone snappier like mine because it just pops apps right open. I honestly am kind of bummed because I recommended the s 3 because I thought it would be fun to mess with and pretty powerful but I've just been unimpressed, I was actually a little jealous that she got the gs3 because I thought it would be more powerful than+my phone . I will admit though it has a beautiful screen.
Edit; if the boot loader thing is a deal breaker for the hox, the flash GUI app takes care of the problem

Absolutely. For that extra 100 bucks you get a removable battery and sd card slot, not to mention no more racing against htc and att to find exploits. The One X is as locked down as an iphone.

Right, Okay.
Another reason I've kind of been wondering about the HOX is because I've had two phones stolen already–just this past week it was my Skyrocket, which prompted the upgrade–and since the HOX doesn't have a removable battery, it seems less stealable.Because then they can't remove the battery and the phone can be tracked, right? Or am I wrong about this?

Hey gys, i have a T3 HOX, and today i picked up an S3 form orange as all i had to pay was about 80bucks with one of our company lines. I got the pebble blue one, i had the white one in my hand but its just too much white plastic for my taste. I honestly think the HOX is a better built phone, just from holding it in my hand. BUt out of the box the S3 seems a lot more snappier. DO you guys think this will be addressed in future updates??Im waiting on some updates before i root and fash the phone, to give HTC a chance to improve things before i tinker with it, heck out of the box i thought my CM9 SGS2 was snappier. I do think programs load quickly its ust the user interface that lags a bit. Please et me know what you uys think as i can sell my sgs2 and keep both the s3 and HOX or i can sell one of them. M just waiting on a good time to tinker witht hem before i decide. BTW i do love the camera on the HOX.
Regards, and thanks!!
I had the same feeling with my S2. I missed the deep blacks and it felt smoother. Looks like Sense 4 has sometimes a tiny lag even with Ultra smooth Rosie enabled.
After a few days my eyes adjusted to the HOX blacks and after seeing the amazing resolution and great whites I forgot about my SGS2!!!
About the lag try Apex launcher it eliminated the lag for me and now my HOX flies!
How do you rate the SGS3 screen vs the One X? I'm curious.

IM actually waiting on the 4.0.4 OTA to see if that improves anything and if so then ill flash a Rom based on the official OTA. CAuse i know XDA and its members are surely able to unlock the power of that T3 SOC

Probably it's very hard for you to search the correct forum for your device.

One of the bugs listed in the S3 forums says that tounchwiz eats so much ram that it keeps crashing and resetting. So Samsung have there probs with there products just like HTC have with there's, all they both need is time, and things will be fixed

I have a Galaxy Nexus (same screen technology as the S3) and a HOX, and with the two side by side, GNEX display looks really bad. You can see the pixalization of the pentile screen (density on the S3 is less than the GNEX so it will be even worse) and the white is covered with dots. True, the black is better on the SAMOLED, but if you want to look at a black screen, don't switch your phone on . Colors are definately better on the HOX and IMHO the overall experience of the screen is better.

I would recommend anyone using HOX to change the launcher to Apex/Nova/etc. The difference is huge. 0 lag. No problems with Live wallpapers, etc.
Not to mention that the S3 can apparently burst into flames & melt... http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=79312161&utm_source
I also got to see the s3 yesterday, my thoughts were "what's all the fuss about". Side by side the screen is not a scratch on our hoax and the build is horrible compared to my galaxy tab let alone the hox - it felt cheap, a bit like a kinder egg toy to me.
The short time I played with the phone overall the speed seems ok - not that much difference to the hox, but the touch wiz is horrible to say the least.
The only real advantage is removable sd card and battery, also Samsung know how to push hard with advertising thus all the frenzy.
I was going to chop my hox in and get the s3 but I'm not going to bother now and instead wait for the next generation but this time I will make sd card and battery removable a deal breaker.

I know it's been asked a billion times, but I'm asking again. Hopefully I get some positive feedback. I have an unopened unlocked gnex sitting on my table that I ordered from Google and I don't know whether to keep it or return it and get an S3. I truly believe the S3 will have a pushed JB update from Samsung within a month here in the US. That said, once the S3 has JB, what's the perk to getting a Nexus? The biggest reasons I'm even considering the S3 over the Nexus is the bigger battery and the ability to add an sd card. The unlocked gsm version only has 16gb of memory. I take pics and like to watch movies on my phone. I'm coming from a 64gb iPhone 4S so I'm used to having whole seasons of shows plus a few movies plus tons of big apps without even having to pay attention to my storage at all. Will I have to worry about this with a 16gb Nexus? Did anyone else out there have the same problem and found it to be true or not true after using the phone? Basically those are my concerns. Battery and space. I know I'll always have the most up to date OS with the Nexus but it's like there's a new OS released every week. It's months and months in between updates. I'm not worried about my 10gb of music. I'll stream from the cloud or use Spotify. There again, it's just that measly 16gb of space with no way of making it bigger. Thanks for the advice in advance.
It seems as though you've already made up you're mind that you'd be more comfortable with the S3. I think the best way to put it is if you want a solid stock experience then keep the Nexus. If you don't care about stock and any major updates past Jelly Bean then go with the S3.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
You seem to already know the pros and cons of each phone. You'll be in the best position to decide.
Having said that, I still think the GN is the better choice especially considering the price. I'd use the GN and wait for the next best thing to come out.
if youre worried about space.. get the s3. both are great phones. s3 should get jellyjean at some point, but to be honest its pretty fast on ics so it wouldnt really matter.
BlackBerry.
Just get the S3 if you need that much space, especially with videos.
Like they said, you seem to have made up your mind about this. And in your case, considering what you wrote, what you're looking for, I would also get the S3. As you said, the Nexus has only 16GB (although I think there's still a 32GB version) and the S3 has better battery life and camera (and the speakers in the Nexus are not too loud either).
Recently I was trying to decide between the two, so I asked in this forum and their advice really helped me decide (you can check my topic and read their opinions). And before I asked here, I was actually thinking I would chose the S3. Though my priorities weren't battery life or storage space, but software and support, so I chose the Nexus and I'm pretty happy with it. I love it. It's not the best hardware-wise, but I know that of the phones currently available, this is the best for me (and I'm waiting for the next Nexus).
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus.
Do you have a link for your thread?
You can root your GN then use external storage with sticky mount (apk)... There you will have all the space you can buy. 1T external?
I'm using 36G+16G (from my phone) with external storage and is more than what I need. So if you like the GN you have some options.
When you first line starts out with 'I know it has been asked a billion times' do you really need to make it a billion and one? Do you think you will get a special answer that the other billion people did not?
Oh look, what a surprise, it is the same exact answers that you will find in the other billion threads!

You guys are right. I have a perfect gem galaxy nexus with no problems with perfectly calibrated screen, and battery is amazing. basically this. then you can even get an accessory for the Nexus after. you know, if you're into that kind of thing.
Do you like listening to music on your phone? If so, steer clear of anything that HTC have made in the last 2 years. They have a serious design flaw in the way they've been shielding their audio chip set, so there is a real problem with line noise. You get this low hissing sound in the background of every track. I had to ditch my One X cause it was giving me headaches.

So. I've got a friend who tonight just offered to trade a 32gb HTC One X International for my AT&T 16gb Galaxy S3. I've already got two friends saying it's a good trade, and I'm inclined to agree because of the Tegra 3 and the LCD screen. Just curious to see what anyone else thought and if they'd give a thumbs up or down.

Yes its a good trade. Tegra 3 and 32 gb, but you will NOT get LTE with the hox, is this a deal breaker?
Also the battery life on the hox is a lot less than the s3, but if rooted there are a couple of roms that utilize battery use very well.
Another good reason to trade is the latest sense, its brilliant.
Check the hox thoroughly, make sure its a perfect runner before you swap.

Check what your network uses. GSM or CDMA. If you haven't, go read some reviews. I've been debating getting the one x international myself but I've read the battery life is god awful.
Been holding out on getting a new phone since I wanted one with a decent physical keyboard and other specs. Since HTC decided they don't want to anymore and I love sense its hard to look at anything else. Can't stand AOSP stock look or touchwiz for sure though personally.

Your out to date, mate. The battery life with last stock rom is pretty good. With 4-5 screen on time hox can live for a hole day. Gaming will cause some battery drain, bur even playing 1,5hrs Sega virtua tennis my phone gives me 3hrs screen on time.
P. S. : typing on 4,7 display with swiftX keyboard is such a pleasure after some time it collects your type of lexicon and it becomes really hard to use something other than that (ok, full qwerty is still nice on PC, but everything alse kind of suxx)

Tried looking around, but the online reviews dont satisfy me.
If i exchange my phone from Telus, these 2 are the closest in prices. Galaxys is 430$ (selling my T989 so aint too bad). and One X + is 460$
OneX+ has Quadcore vs the Dualcore from the Samsung, is it really noticeable, i know cores is not necessarily the key point
OneX has 1 gig of ram, Samsung 2gigs.
OneX has 64gigs of internal memory. Galaxy has 16 + sd Slot.
All comes to global. Nevers hard any HTC products.
Will be rooting either, so firmware is not an issue.
Any advice ?
I'd go for the one x.. but I'd check to see where development is going with that phone. I came close to dumping my t989 for a one s but when I checked how are along development was going for it... not a good move.

I've had an HTC before, and all I can say is that they're great, the hardware is good and all, but it comes down to like Rush said, dev support. If you like flashing different ROMs and what not, then go to each of the phones forum sections and check out how their dev support is. I remember I had the choice of the S2 and the Amaze 4G,and I chose the Amaze over the S2, and as much I loved the phone when I got on XDA all it had was root, no AOSP roms, just modified stock Sense Roms. Then theres the whole thing with HTC not releasing the source. When the Amaze was stolen and I got the S2 from T-Mo I was surprised by all the dev support the S2 has and it was that what changed my opinion on Samsungs, which before wasnt really a good one.

I would go S3 as well. I've had both brands and prefer Samsung. My og evo was a great phone and has one of the most active developer communities. But I actually don't have the personal need to try a bunch of different roms out with this phone because it feels pretty good out of the gate.

I say s3. The one x is a better phone overall but development will never be as good as the s3.
