Right now, I have the HTC Vivid. It's a great phone, but the development is absolutely terrible and I don't see it getting better any time soon lol. I've had my eyes on the Nexus for a few weeks but still don't know if its worth buying. My Vivid is worth about $200 used, so that leaves $200 more dollars to buy a new one from the Play Store. I'm only 15 and am not old enough to get a job so this is a large investment for me! I really like the development of the nexus as well as the AMOLED screen! Please comment your opinion phone and what you think I should do below!

I just got in touch with someone who will buy my Xbox for $300 so I will most likely have the money, but is it worth selling my Vivid as well and only having the nexus?

Also, I have the phone running Virtuous, an ICS ROM, so it pretty much is the same as the ICS on the nexus so getting pics isn't a big deal

Alright, if my buyer for the Xbox does purchase, I'm getting it Also, how good is the screen on the Nexus? My Vivid's qHD screen is fine, but absolutely TERRIBLE when looking at it outside. It's so bad, that outside, at half brightness, you can't even see the screen!
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
Really depends on the phone you're coming from, I had an LG G2x, which the Tegra 2 cpu was great and handled mostly everything fine, but the lack of RAM, bigger screen, and no open source drivers had me looking at the One S, but the GNex is more of what I like.
Anyways, definitely go for it. AMOLED screens in general are known for their outdoor visibility, and this one holds up perfectly. Just make sure you get an anti-glare screen protector if you decide to buy one.
I too am wondering if I should go for the Galaxy Nexus or the Samsung Galaxy SII? I have a HTC Amaze, but I am just ready for something different than HTC. I have had them for over 2 years now.

Imo the biggest advantage of a Nexus phone is the software that comes directly from Google. No need to wait 6 Months+ for bloating up Software with Apps you usually don't need or can install separatley. And you don't have to worry about buying a 500$+ phone and don't get the mayor update Google announced 10 months after the phone was released because the follower is already released and only the follower will get that update (gratz Samsung for your SGS behaviour)
Buy one!!!!! I never realized how much I would love this phone until I purchased it on launch day. With a ROM, kernel, and 4.0.4 radios, this phone pretty much won't be obsolete for a damn good amount of time.

I should say go for it!
I came from a sgs2, then got a HTC one x, sold it because it was just a little to big for me. Now i got a Nexus. I love to root and have custom roms. Now I have my nexus, the only question that remains is: why didn't I buy a Nexus phone earlier?
You'll love it!
Thanks guys! He Xbox should be bought soon and then I will have enough money so after I buy the Nexus, I won't be completely broke lol

Don't get it if you are on Verizon unless you are okay with delayed updates. Otherwise, I is a really simple and wonderful phone to have. If you are a rooter/from junkie, then don't worry about Verizon.

Why should I have an insurance plan? Also, I will get using the GSM model sold directly from Google. I am a rooting/ROMing so I think this will be a good phone for it. I'm even gonna try my hand at developing, my dad is a computer programmer and says he will help me! Maybe you guys will see some new ROMs coming soon

Yes yes yes - but not with LTE
I have the google HSPA+ Nexus. I cannot believe I didn't buy it earlier. (Well, I can, because it was originally about $700..)..
Anyway, this is the best freaking phone I have ever had. In the last few days, I've watched two full-length movies on it. I've NEVER done that with a phone before.
The performance is great, the UI is great, the hardware is great, and (at least for GSM), the battery life is phenominal.
Would I like an 8mp camera instead of the camera it has? Sure. Have I taken GREAT photos with the camera I have now in the Nexus-- yes. This is a nice-to-have for me, not a deal-breaker.
Having an unlocked stock google OS is great, by the way.
Anyway, I could go on and on. The bottom line, it's worth it.
I just found a guy the XDA market selling his white GSM Nexus for $420 shipped! Hope its worth it. It seems kind of scetchy with paying via PayPal. I will include the link.

Ok, my order for the SG II did not go through for whatever reason, so I can go either way now. I am coming from a HTC Amaze, and the development over there kind of has spuddered. I am ready to try something different, having had HTC devices for over two years straight (MyTouch 4G (great), and HTC Amaze (ok)).
I am ready to go Galaxy Nexus, but the biggest concern to me is data speeds. I have gotten 18Mbps down on the Amaze. It supports the HSPA+ 42? Has anyone seen those speeds on the GSM Nexus?

If a person has the THOUGHT of owning a Galaxy Nexus then it is obviously worth buying because it is still relevant to them. Nexus devices are relevant for a long time, even past one year or even two.
I currently have the sensation. Always had HTC my whole android life. Love HTC but thinking about diving into the Samsung life. I'm thinking about buying the unlocked gsm galaxy nexus from the play store.
I can't always afford the best phone at the time, I pay cash. That's why the one s and galaxy s3 are of limits. I am on T-Mobile US
You guys think it's a good idea to switch? I realize this is the nexus forum, and it would be biased. But I want to know if it is a good idea, or if I should wait for something else. Is is too late to buy one of these?
Just give me all opinions. Thanks in advance.

I literally just changed from a Rezound to the GSM nexus. I can almost gaurantee you'll like it more. HTC sense drags android down so much. I also really enjoy the plainess of stock android. Also if there was ever a good time to jump ship on HTC its now. They are dying off quickly right now.

From what I have seen so far it is decent. You can get a 2000mah battery that negligibly increases the size of the phone if the stock isn't good enough (1750mah). I don't use my phone a whole lot during the week because I can't carry it into where I work but it has been better than my rezound was. My typical use with my rezound would give it all of 10-12 hours of life, I see my nexus getting about 14-16 especially with power saving kernels and simpler roms.
I was Verizon + HTC for years and I just switched to the GNex on Straight Talk. I could not be happier. It's an amazing phone at a great price. JB is what Android was meant to be. Battery, signal, camera; it's all been great.
You won't regret it.
if u are a heavy user like me id recommend getting larger batteries. the stock battery only lasts me about 8 hours with medium/ heavy usage ( using facebook/ twitter/ youtube and playing huge games like max payne)

Most seem to think there will be several of them, not just 1 this time. And that they will be out by Christmas. But there's no official word this is just the rumors. They for sure won't be US$350 though, which is why I just bought this one. I, too, am a to-hell-with--your-contracts kind of guy, so I pay full price. And frankly, 600+ for the new Nexus is just more than I am willing to pay. Especially when I care nothing about being the fastest or having the newest. I'm happy with my OG Evo right now, in fact. But DONE with Sprint!
So i have been having my nexus galaxy for a couple of weeks and just download codename rom and i have to say its the best android phone i have so far. Then I see someone wanting to trade mine for a new htc one x. Specs wise theres a difference but I need your guys input if you guys would in a heartbeat or give input if I should or not. To me I am thinking jb>sense ui but on the other hand they said for one x, jb is coming out and jb on a quad core sounds crazy.

Don't do it. The nexus may not have the same specs as the one x but it delivers a superior experience due to vanilla android vs HTC sense. That and JB may be the last update the one x sees where as the nexus probably has few more in line.

I still think HTC make great device but if you love flashing and to have the latest Android, you should keep your GN.
Unlock bootloader can be painful and risky. Customs ROMS need more time before being ported because of some proprietary modules...

Personally, I wouldn't even do the trade for sale and profit. The quality control of the gnex varies somewhat. Mine has a good screen, overclocks well, and seems loud enough. IMO, if you have a good one, keep it. If you have a not-so-good one, go for it.

You guys are right. I have a perfect gem galaxy nexus with no problems with perfectly calibrated screen, and battery is amazing. I am currently at 43% percent battery life with 17h so far with almost 50 percent screen on time just with random kernel and no display tweaks. Going to do this guide to make it even more better http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599025 . I am astonished. I told him I am going to hold it off for now. basically this. then you can even get an accessory for the Nexus after. you know, if you're into that kind of thing.
Do you like listening to music on your phone? If so, steer clear of anything that HTC have made in the last 2 years. They have a serious design flaw in the way they've been shielding their audio chip set, so there is a real problem with line noise. You get this low hissing sound in the background of every track. I had to ditch my One X cause it was giving me headaches.

I just got the galaxy S3 on at&t and I chose it over the One X (despite costing $100 more than the One X) because the features seemed really cool. S-Voice and other little things that would make life a little easier. Stuff like s-beam, s-voice, various motion things, swipe to screenshot, etc. Google now is so much faster than s-voice though and pretty much everything else can be achieved with third party apps. So now I'm wondering if I should return the s3 and get a One X or not.a
Any comments or suggestions that can male this choice easier?

Oh, and see my signature.
S3 would be be an ideal choice than HTC One X.
Ok i will change it up. HOX no way, I but HOX+ I would say that is worth entertaining when it is released.
The only thing worth having in the HOX is its screen. It uses the same cpu, less memory, lower battery, no sd and bootloader locked (I believe it is still the same but not 100%.)
HOX+ will have better screen, less ram, faster cpu and same size battery as S3. Also I believe the HOX+ will come out at either 32gb or 64gb.
Hopefully that helps a little.

Unless I hear the One X+ has an unlockable bootloader on AT&T, I'm keeping my sgs3. The reason I switched to this phone was the bootloader shenanigans.

So if I'm gonna root it and install Cyanogenmod or maybe AOKP, is the GS3 worth the $100 premium?
I say yes, absolutely. Especially if you also keep in mind the the OX doesn't have expandable storage. We have great development support in the community and your phone will perform better than you thought possible.
Galaxy S3 AOKP 4.1.2 JB.
My gf has the gs3 and I have a one s that has the same chip as the hox. I have no idea were the gs3 has more power comment has come from. Out of the box it was just hitting between 4000 and 4500 on quadrant. My one s out of the box was 4500 and up. Running sense on my one s and a over clocked kernel to 2.1ghz I'm getting between 6000 and 6500. I put her gs3 on task and knootesz aokp with the 2.1ghz kernel and I'm lucky if her phone hits 5000. Even in linpack it only gets a 45. She also has been asking me to make her phone snappier like mine because it just pops apps right open. I honestly am kind of bummed because I recommended the s 3 because I thought it would be fun to mess with and pretty powerful but I've just been unimpressed, I was actually a little jealous that she got the gs3 because I thought it would be more powerful than+my phone . I will admit though it has a beautiful screen.
Edit; if the boot loader thing is a deal breaker for the hox, the flash GUI app takes care of the problem

Absolutely. For that extra 100 bucks you get a removable battery and sd card slot, not to mention no more racing against htc and att to find exploits. The One X is as locked down as an iphone.

Right, Okay.
Another reason I've kind of been wondering about the HOX is because I've had two phones stolen already–just this past week it was my Skyrocket, which prompted the upgrade–and since the HOX doesn't have a removable battery, it seems less stealable.Because then they can't remove the battery and the phone can be tracked, right? Or am I wrong about this?

Tried looking around, but the online reviews dont satisfy me.
If i exchange my phone from Telus, these 2 are the closest in prices. Galaxys is 430$ (selling my T989 so aint too bad). and One X + is 460$
OneX+ has Quadcore vs the Dualcore from the Samsung, is it really noticeable, i know cores is not necessarily the key point
OneX has 1 gig of ram, Samsung 2gigs.
OneX has 64gigs of internal memory. Galaxy has 16 + sd Slot.
All comes to global. Nevers hard any HTC products.
Will be rooting either, so firmware is not an issue.
Any advice ?
I'd go for the one x.. but I'd check to see where development is going with that phone. I came close to dumping my t989 for a one s but when I checked how are along development was going for it... not a good move.

I've had an HTC before, and all I can say is that they're great, the hardware is good and all, but it comes down to like Rush said, dev support. If you like flashing different ROMs and what not, then go to each of the phones forum sections and check out how their dev support is. I remember I had the choice of the S2 and the Amaze 4G,and I chose the Amaze over the S2, and as much I loved the phone when I got on XDA all it had was root, no AOSP roms, just modified stock Sense Roms. Then theres the whole thing with HTC not releasing the source. When the Amaze was stolen and I got the S2 from T-Mo I was surprised by all the dev support the S2 has and it was that what changed my opinion on Samsungs, which before wasnt really a good one.
Tx.for the input

I would go S3 as well. I've had both brands and prefer Samsung. My og evo was a great phone and has one of the most active developer communities. But I actually don't have the personal need to try a bunch of different roms out with this phone because it feels pretty good out of the gate.
