Hey guys, this is my first post and unfortunately it's a somber one.I am not sure where to put this so I put it in Q&A.
I had my phone less than 12 hours and the screen shattered the first time it touch the ground. I have insurance through AT&T, but the deductible is 200.
I have noticed that ebay sells the screen by itself for like 35 bucks, but I'm not sure if it's JUST the screen that is broken. What's the difference between a broken screen, lcd and/or digitizer?
Would I be able to get away with replacing just the screen? Do I need to replace the digitizer as well? Would I be better off going through insurance and paying 200, ugh?
I'm so bummed and I'm not sure what to do.

If ur glass is broken u can still see your screen... if glass plus digitizer is broken screen will not work I'm pretty sure... It goes glass, adhesive, digitizer, adhesive and then frame if I'm correct.

Ok, here is my problem... And I will try to get pics tomorrow. But, I have a cracked screen, sort of... Definite crack... Touch Screen works perfectly... LCD is not damaged... What part of the phone is cracked? And can I get this replaced without paying the $100 deductible?
it is your digitizer and depends on the carrier..if you have tMo go luck...all others you can buy the digitizer but installation is a whole other ball of wax. you best know what you are doing to swap it. you can buy the digitizer on fleabay for about 35 bucks
how can it be the digitizer???? his touch screen works! I have no idea what is cracked if both the display and touch screen works
Rick
post up some pics?
Hey guys, i read through a couple of threads about cacked screens but im still a little confused. i droped my phone and the bottom half of the screen cracked, i can still use the phone without any problems. so do i need a digitizer or new lcd??
digitizer is the glass part that you touch, lcd is the screen itself. If you can see a full picture, then the lcd is fine.

My friend found one off amazon for like $13-15 I can't remember. I looked it up too and it was about the same. He didn't have any issues replacing the glass either. If you have the insurance you might try a sprint store, or a authorized sprint store. I bought a Epic fro ma coworker and it had a cracked screen, took it to the repair place and they did it for free. (after making the phone my wifes main phone)
Hi everyone,
First, I hope there's not another thread opened about this, I promise I did several searches and couldn't find one that was close enough
I have some question about screen replacement.
My dad just dropped his note 2 and damaged the screen (really unfortunate, it was really a little drop!), so I was looking into buying a screen from eBay and replace it myself. yes, it's tricky, but not all that much imo (big +1 to the guy from the YT channel LE55ONS, his videos about this kind of stuff are amazingly well done).
So, the screen is broken, the display is not, but if I bring the phone to the rapair guy he will almost certainly replace the screen and the display for €200+
If I buy something like this
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trks...at=0&_from=R40
and replace it myself I can do the whole thing and spend some €50 tops.
I was thinking about this one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gray-Front-O...item3a7dc376c5
Here come the questions. Can anyone point me towards a good screen replacement for something around $20/30? Is the quality good? I asked the seller if it is actually gorilla glass 2 and he said yes.
Also, these don't have any connectors, the original one has 2. I can always use the connectors from the old screen, but if someone knows about a screen with connectors included, can they please let me know? There's nothing like asking to someone who has already done something like what I'm about to do.
Thank you everyone
Mine dropped from two feet and hairline cracked across the whole screen. I bought the full assembly LCD/digitizer. Did the repair per LE55ONS. AOK now. afterwards, i tried to pry apart the digitizer. In my Note II is is bonded with transparent gum covering the entire LCD. No way to replace only the digitizer.

If you buy the digitizer with the screen attached that's sooo much easier to replace, it's almost not even risky. But it costs somewhere around $200, the same as having it repaired by a professionist. Did you find a cheaper replacement?
I've got a cracked screen but the digitizer works fine. I noticed Amazon and eBay sell replacement screens but two local repair shops told me it's virtually impossible to replace the screen without damaging the phone so I they recommneded buying the screen and digitizer.
1) Does this sound right? If not, can anyone recommend a repair person/shop in Boston?
2) If they are right, can you recommend a place to buy the screen and digitizer that won't cost an arm and a leg.
Thanks
You'll never get the screen off without damaging the digitizer.
I have no idea the best place to get a replacement screen digitizer combo
Sorry I could only answer half your question

I've used www.mobiletechvideos.com a couple of times in the past and I highly recommended them.
Hi,
I dropped my S2X today and broke the screen.
The picture is okay in the back.. but the glass on the front is broken. So, is it called digitizer or LCD? and how much should I pay to repair it? People are asking from $100 to $175!! And seriously, the price for the new phone when I bought outright was $150!!
I found something on eBay for around $15..
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-Black-Di...cement_Parts_Tools&hash=item3f1b029e5d&_uhb=1
So, is this what I am looking for? or something else?
I live in GTA, so I was thinking there might be more options to repair the thing in some store or something but no luck on Kijiji! Asking for 3 digits is insane!!
Let me know what should I do!
Thanks,

Well, the cost of a smartphone can easily be $500-$800, so paying only $100 to get it fixed can be a deal. I see people complain all the time that Apple charges $149 for Out-of-warranty work, when they "only" paid $199 for the phone. An iPhone can cost $649-$849, the "$199" paid is the on-contract, subsidized price.
And, if the design of Samsung's phones are similar to the iPhone, you may need more than just the digitizer. The iPhone 4 and newer have the Digitizer (the outside part that you touch) and the LCD (the inside part the displays the picture) fused together, as one piece. You cannot replace "just" the digitizer or "just" the LCD. You must purchase a "display assembly" - both pieces together, as a single unit.
When I check eBay for "T989 Display Assembly", I see many going for around $250.
Again, if people are only asking for $100 - $175 to fix it, I'd go for it. Consider it a lesson learned and try to be more careful with the device.
Another 100 and you can buy a new N4.

The glass is separate from the digitizer. If it is anything like the s3/s4/note2, the glass is attached with a layer of adhesive to the front of the entire lcd. You can order just the glass for $10 USD. It is possible to change. It just takes patience. You must heat up the front of the glass using either a heat gun or hair dryer in order to soften the glue that holds it all together.
Yes its a pain, but very doable. Look at the YouTube guides carefully. Heres a link for the white and the black glass both under 10 bucks on ebay.

If you aren't careful, you can and will crack your LCD, in which case you are SOL. Always keep the glass heated ( roughly 185 degrees ) and work slow prying upwards, not downwards.
