Just wanted to know how many people are like me planning to purchased the Nexus 4
On T Mobile. Waited too long for Sprint to improved their signal strength. I live So Cal and still no LTE. I know T-Mobile has no LTE Till year, however i know their speed is a lot faster compared to Sprint

The slow sprint data in Nor Cal got me frustrated too. I'm jumping ship to Tmobile.
Debating N4 vs Note 2
Speed test in my area:
Sprint average 150kbs (my phone)
Tmobile average 6MBS (cousins phone)
What would you do....
People always say "yo, I'm 'bout ta jump dis ship, who's coming??" I don't exactly understand it. Have you been having terrible service with sprint? Is the development just not the same? Granted, the Nexus 4 seems to be a very powerful device, but I'm just curious, because there has been a lot of "development is really slowing down" being thrown around, and yes, we have lost some development from some very good devs, but right now we have a lot of good things going on. This CM10 beta 2 is unbelievable. This feels like a knew phone.
**OR** I could be just completely out of line, I guess I'm just wondering why people are so interested in getting away from this device in particular.
WOW, maybe there's just a good connection is just in my area. 150kbps is terrible....

I kinda feel the same way, I think this device is getting better and better, but....that $300 price tag is enticing, but....no swappable battery. So no dice LG and Google, no dice. Waiting on the S4. I need a quantum leap between phones, I think the s2 to s4 might be that and I've had this since launch day.

Or maybe because people just like new shiny things lol. It's natural.
And as mentioned earlier, $300 price tag with no contract.., not to mention a premium Nexus device? That's a no brainer. I won't be jumping ship, 'cause I'm tied down in my contract with Sprint until June 2013. Although if I had the opportunity, I'd probably do it. If you don't like the service/phone, sell phone, take a small loss, and go to another carrier. Simple.
I am. I'm tired of Sprint's slow 3g data and inconsistent wimax.

I have an S3 w/Sprint and a S2 w/TMobile and I left for the exact same reasons.... speed. Believe me guys you dont need "LTE" what you need is faster data and I stay over 8mbps and have peaked near 20mbs on ocassion. More than enough for whatever it is you are doing. They can label it how they want HSPA, LTE, Wimax but all I care about is numbers and 8mbps+ are great numbers for me.
Jumping to TMobile where you can be online make calls and tether at the same damn time....:good:
Also on prepaid $70 flat a month
My bad oh yea NExus 4 no contract no brainer since if you dont like the phone your can sell it and get something else and slide the sim card in... If you are jumping go prepaid at first

I could get by just fine on the $30/month plan *unlimited text, 100min, unlimited web*. I barely use 100mins a month currently on Sprint. I'm also sure there are ways to use google voice to make call over data instead.

Yes there are apps on the market 1 being GrooveIP that can handle your request. To me for speed and the ability to do things in 2012-2013 you need faster speeds. I now run Plex Server from my house - no problems Slingbox from my house - no problems and anything else I want.... good upload speeds at home and fast internet on phone = pure bliss :good::good:

It was $70 for the first $20 for the next phones 3 and 4 are $10 each ( $110) plus $40 for smart phones $10 each. Plus state taxes very each month $5 to $10 so $155 sometimes $160 and more depending on how many apps we buy.

Returned evo lte due to data dropouts and crap reception for the photon with hopes of getting the gs3. Will the gs3 have similar data issues due to the new 4g radios in these new sprint phones? So far the photon reception is insane.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
I think most people would agree that the Photon is well known among Sprint phones to be the champion when it comes to reception. If you're hoping for reception like it had in the GS3, I wouldn't hold your breath. I had the EVO LTE before the GS3 & the reception was about the same between the two. Samsung did do us a service in improving the radio slightly in the GS3 over the GS2 though. I get approximately 2-3 dBm better reception with my GS3 over my GS2 in the same spots. YMMV.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
As far as cdma Motorola has a patent that allows them superior radio quality. Does anyone know one that patent will expire? Lol
Should I stick it out with the photon and skip on the gs3?
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
Dude, the SGS3 is the pinnacle of smartphone hardware you can own in the WORLD, regardless of network, right now. It is an amazing piece of technology. Like I said, if you expect to see reception like you do with the Photon, that's probably going to be a pipe dream. But I think you'd be crazy not to at least try it out. Am I biased? Yeah, mostly!

Great time for a return. Verizon SGSIII should be out shortly, return that Photon, pick up that SGSIII should receive equal to +/- reception and you'll be in excellent condition. I couldn't do the EVO LTE, looking forward to Verizon, again :good:.

Just got off the phone with best buy and according to them, I should get the gs3 right away since I preordered which should be in my 30 day return policy with best buy. Ill give it a shot and if I see the same poor reception as the evo lte, Ill go back to the photon. As far as going back to verizon, not happening, I just did an assumption of liability with some one on xda an gave up my unlimited. Couldn't justify spending 150 a month for three lines with only one smartphone, 700 minutes, and only 200 text per line. Now I'm spending about 165 for all three lines two of which are iphones for my wife an mother in law. On the 1500 data unlimited. Sprint in my area is fine for service and will only improve as they make network upgrades plus I should be grandfathered in my current plan if they ever decide to change policy. Again this is all speculation, not fact. Here's to hoping the gs3 doesn't drop data the way the beautifully designed evo lte did.

I agree, Sprint ftw! Also, the EVO LTE is beautiful, but once you have the GS3 in hand I doubt you'll be disappointed from a design perspective. It's gorgeous & also more comfortable to hold IMHO. Hopefully the signal strength will be better for you, too! Good luck in your endeavor.

I think both phones are excellent phones and the which one is better, is a silly argument. Ultimately both phones will tackle just about any task you throw at it and any performance differences will be minimal.

Dav, you get what you pay for... I'm with Sprint and I put a pre-orders for 2 S3 with Verizon. I cant even load Google maps while on the train here in LI NY. IMO after Sprint went with the iPhone my speed went from awesome to pure garbage, yes, you get unlimited but what good does it make if you can't even stream a song without skip.
If you want to check how Sprint is doing where you live try check here network.sprint.com
on LI too! Ditched sprint all together, cant justify spending $225 for service thats barely there. Giving t mobile a shot and if that doesnt work, im going back to a pager and some pocket change for a payphone! Im still in my 14 day return period with sprint and was able to port my numbers over, got three lines with 1000 minutes unlimited text, 2gb high speed data with the unlimited slow 3g thing. went with the one s for myself and two nokia lumia 710's for my wife and mother in law at $145 a month. Anything above $150 is pushing it with theses greedy cell companies. Att wanted $200 for something similar to sprint and verizon is about $190. I know a few people with t mobile on LI that say service is fine.

Just wanted to hear some thoughts.
At first, I was really turned off by the idea of LG manufacturing the next nexus, yes, even after their Optimus G, I just didn't like them as a manufacturer, but I think they really outdid themselves with the Nexus 4 (at least for my expectations of them) and it seems to be a solid device.
4.7in IPS 1280x768 (320ppi)
Qualcomm SnapDragon S4 Pro (Quad Core)
2GB RAM
8 & 16GB configurations @ $300 and $350 respectively for UNLOCKED VERSIONS OMG YES
8MP Rear Camera with a Sony-manufactured sensor/1.9MP Front Camera
Pentaband/HSPA+ 21
BT 4.0
2100MAH non removable battery (with inductive charging)
And the yummy 4.2 JB
IMO, this phone is irresistible in everything except the screen *cough* AMOLEDs are awesome *cough*, I really want to drop Sprint and go the Tmo Prepaid way, even if there's no support for full HSPA+42.
And the Camera should be amazing.
So, what are your opinions?
I've seen reports that it is 42 capable. Either way, the nascent Sprint 4g doesn't come close. I'm jumping after 12 years with Sprint.

I'll be leaving sprint as soon as possible due to their down right embarrassing 3G. My area was promised wimax by local stores and then they scrapped it for LTE. Now they say no LTE until the end of next year. Verizon has had LTE here for a while and AT&T is close if they haven't already.
I love the device but the network leaves much to be desired.
I wish T mobile had good coverage in my area because they have always been my favorite.

I also don't like the idea of no expandable memory.
If they don't release a sprint version of this phone in November, I am definitely switching to a carrier that is willing to have the nexus phone. I am fed up with manufacturers not releasing their source code, waiting on sprint to push updates, etc. Just gonna get realistic and go with a phone that will always be up to date. Regardless of the carrier. They all suck. And they're all overpriced.
No expandable memory for me is a deal breaker 16 would fill up quickly for me.. Music, apps+data, pictures.. I know the whole "cloud storage thing is being pushed and what's in, but I like having my stuff actually on my phone especially if I want to turn data off

Honestly, I think 16GB is just enough. If you're really gonna fill that up with Games, buy a tablet or a console, or a PC!.\ If you're gonna fill it up with pictures, perhaps it's time to invest in a camera. As for files, I actually like Drive and/or Dropbox, because everything is nice and synced from phone to computer, and if I REALLY need to keep something locally on my phone (which once I get Tmo, I won't have to, since I can have HSPA+ all the time due to their amazing coverage), both Drive and Dropbox give me the option. Plus, even though this move towards a fixed amount of memory from the start is all about money, it also has some speed benefits (faster bootup times) and it can get out updates quicker since that's one less driver they need to have (MicroSD card slots, I'm looking at you)
I'm really hoping Sprint has to raise their prices soon, a few cents so I can dip.
I think a good majority of people also have a separate music player (cd's, ipods, zunes, flash drives, whatever) so they aren't as concerned about storage space on their phone. I've never even come remotely close to filling my E4GT's space
Nexus 4 makes me want to buy it off contract and jump to Straight Talk.

It sure seems to be paying off to be GSM right now. CDMA is really showing a lot of draw back issues with the whole issue. I would prefer to have a GSM carrier right now seeing at how cheap the price of the new nexus is.
Meh, non removable battery is a killer for me.. I'll stick with my Touch.. May get the S3 soon.. Still holding off tho. (Got other things to tend to first) Nice phone spec wise.. just not anything i'm willing to jump ship for yet.
It's better to get the lg optimus g at this point if you're on sprint I won't be getting neither I'm holding out for s4. I'll be trading in my iPad3 for the nexus10 for sure. IOS have too many limitations not being able to jailbreak and or root is a big deal. If you want an iPad3 hit me up.

I just got done researching this. Something that I've seen throughout the reviews/tests is that the att side of service is faster, has more coverage, and is more reliable. Also, delete the apn (iirc) info for higher speeds to disable straight talk's proxy.
Nexus 4 or not, I'm ready to leave Sprints terrible service by my area.
I finally got the boot for roaming and I'll be taking my 3 lines elsewhere. I have my money ready for the N4.
I've heard some really bad things regarding Straight Talk, that they're really shady when it comes to "Unlimited Data". I've heard them call and threaten to cancel service if someone went over 100mb in one day.

Hi,
I have the Sprint Note II in my hands now and have till tomorrow to return it. I am thinking of switching to T-Mobile. I LOVE this phone.
I am only worried about differences in the phone (if there are any negatives) and of course coverage and speeds. I hear T Mob has some great speeds but not when you travel out of major cities. Anyone with experience of both carriers?
I love that Tmob is GSM since I do travel int. And I can get a small bus plan so my bill is only $50/month compared to $70 w Sprint. Plus, you get free hotspot and I don't need to root to get free tethering.
As far as phone, are there any major differences? Is T Mob usually behind on updates as I've had Multi Window since I bought the phone on the 4th?
Anything else you can tell me? BTW, my battery is phenomenal. I am sitting on almost 2 days of battery usage. Same for T Mob?
Thanks for any answers!!
You would probably get more answers in the tmob forum ...as they have the phone and we all have the sprint one like u right now . But it is pretty much the same phone

Ya thanks, I actually posted in both. I fgure there are some Sprint or T Mob users who have switched carriers and can offer insight.
As far as phone, the GSM feature I think makes the T Mob version more flexible.
I think the tmob one has native video calling also .... which ours doesn't

You do realize that the Sprint version can run on GSM as well right?
I cant confirm this but the tmo version might have wireless charging because its a gsm phone. Its pretty much the same phone. Updates have been faster on Sprint but tmo is not too far back.

I just made the switch and sold my Sprint Note 2 before switching to Tmobile. The phones are essentially the same, however, the Tmobile version comes with WiFi calling.
The only regret I have is not switching sooner. The data and voice is amazing and the prices are much cheaper than Sprint.
I don't know if GsM supports HD voice but really, who cares.
I'm very happy to answer any questions you may have.

There are more ROM options because many are pulled from ATT or the international version. Battery life is about the same. Multi Window is available on some ROMS but Tmobile hasn't officially been updated yet.

1 T-Mobile runs on a GSM network, So 3g speeds are pretty same as Sprint's LTE speeds. As because it's not true 4g but still faster in some cases.
2 because it is a GSM network the battery life is far superior.
3 has a SIM card
4 is possibly even cheaper in the store depending on if the running a sale or not. Before T-Mobile had it for 199 rebate so you pay the 300 but get a mail in rebate for 100.
5 I have checked both coverage maps from Sprint and T Mobile and to be honest are pretty much the same only in certain places 1 another might be better or not. All on T-Mobile note 2 forum as well.
by the way the free tethering 1 Will throttle you verses on the nation 4g without the tethering.

T Mob is getting the multi window rolled out tomorrow. The girl at the store had no clue about LTE. The Note II has the radios for it, just not turned on right now, correct? Do you think there will be any limits on LTE network? I get unlimited with the small bus plan.

They still have the $100 rebate. They will also give me a $200 per line credit for switching over to the business plan. So the phone will cost me $460 tax included. I paid $320 for it from Sprint but my plan is $20 more a month which obviously adds up over the years.
I did check the coverage map and there's the rub. I live in Hawaii. Honolulu is great for either service. BUT, I also used to live on Kauai and still have a condo there so I visit often and could move back eventually and the service is 2G there! Yikes. But, I don't see me going back for a couple years at minimum for long term stay so if the service still sucks then, maybe I switch to someone else if I do move back.
Can you explain the free tethering throttle? I heard it's after 5GB which is enough for me. Thanks!
BTW, Thanks for the responses. I returned the Note II to Sprint last night and will likely be joining T Mob today!

See i get 23% discount for Sprint, ATT, Verizon, but none for T-Mobile so for me its actually cheaper on sprint we pay $209.76 for 1500 Shared minutes(land-lines), Any Mobile to Mobile, Unlimited text, Unlimited Data. TEP on 3 Note 2's. for T-Mobile i would have to pay $245+ for same setup pretty much we pay about $5K every 2 years. T-Mobile would be $6K

Yeah they have a 5GB and 10GB of No throttling with WiFi Tethering hotspot, but if you go over than its Throttled. Whereas 4G Nationwide plan its all unlimited and you can simply get a wifi hotspot tether app for free.

I got 24% discount from Sprint so that's why I was at $70. With my small bus plan with T Mob, I'll be at $50.
Thanks for the info, but I don't go over 5GB anyway, so I'll be fine.
As far as tethering on Sprint for free, I had to root my EVO. I like that I don't even have to root or hack T Mob and have hotspot for free and get the GSM without doing all these mods I've been reading about on Sprint so you can try to insert a SIM.
But hey, we all have different needs and you're stoked with Sprint. I was with them for 15 years so I am sorta sad to leave haha. All I care about is coverage and if it's as good or better than Sprint, I think I'll be a happy camper!

yep i feel ya, used to be with VZW forever because i lived in Rochester, NY basically 4-6 Hours away from NYC. and that was pretty much best at the time up there and most reliable. but we moved to North Carolina and sprint was okay and much cheaper lol
I don't know if there will be any different prices with LTE. I would doubt it because my understanding is that it would be more efficient.

Once you hit your cap, if you have one, they reduce your speed. Having said that, your throttled speed would be most likely faster than Sprint anyway.

T Mobile throttles your speed at 2g speeds. 2g on T-Mobile is slow. Atleast on 3g with Sprint it's getting better and faster.

I have a cap at 5GB but even when using Sprint for tethering and all that stuff I never even hit 3GB of data. I can pay $5 more if needed and I believe it is unlimited.
I did get a little bit of disappointment just now, because I am doing the business value plan, I don't get the $100 mail in rebate.
I do get $200 though for switching over, but the idea of getting $300 was really nice.

I'm in the Ventura area, calls are good but data is spotty. Best I have gotten in speed is 8Mbps. I only tried it for a month and then switched back to ATT.

on average 3g speeds are 512kbps upto 1mbps.....
I'm from both those areas, 626 and the ie for half the week. Everything seems to be working great and have no problems at all. I have yet to download a big file over data so I have no speeds for you other than it is spotty at times.

Thats why i want to switch but i want something reliable and good speeds hate wanting to check something online and sometimes its so slow that ill make back to the office before i am able to find out on my phone....
Many people have told me to stay away from t-mobile cause bad service slow speeds but a friend came over with a my touch htc phone and slowest speed he was getting was 3mb in the same area i was getting KB's

Great choice.
I just left Sprint last week and joined T-Mobile. Speeds are faster everywhere that I've traveled to. Only spot that I was having trouble with was around Staples Center.
I'm in the OC for the most part though, no troubles. Even in my work office I get fast speeds. Sprint just pissed me off with the slow 3G lol.
I left Sprint Sero back in May and have not looked back, my worst day on TMobile was way ahead of my best day on Sprint. Sadly the $30/month plan did not cut it for me so I moved on. I still don't regret going prepaid.
I live in the san fernando valley, I work in SGV, Alhambra, Montebello, OC and Irvine.
I get a good 10mbs-20mbs

hey another question i have is Tmobile doesnt do subsidized phones anymore right?
so if the price is advertised as $300 but full phone price is say $500.. do you
1) pay the $300 upfront and then pay the remaining balance little bit by lil bit every month apart from your bill?
2) just pay the $300 and thats it? (well obviously on both you still have to pay the taxes of the phone gotta love the CA tax.)
I ask cause the sales rep kind of confuse me and some will tell you whatever they need to say in order to make the sale

However, number 2 should also be available with some different (than mine) contracts.

Ok now that the S4 , htc one are out.. I think im going with the Note 2 i can get them both out of contract but AT&T versions for $300 or maybe less , tried looking for the Tmobile version and there still in the $400 area.. Ive read that you could just unlock it and use the ATT version on Tmobile that is true correct?
If anyone else wants to reply with how their service is with Tmobile in the Southern CAL area please do..
My concerns are still Voice reception, clarity of call, and decent data connection dont need high speed just a good 1.5mb down ( i know thats not high but compared to sprint its lightning fast)
I use my phone for work so i use it heavily so have to have a reliable connection
http://www.tmonews.com/2013/07/investor-sees-t-mobile-as-takeover-target-for-dish-network-sprint/
I honestly don't want either to take over. But if I had to choose, I'd choose dish.
With me just coming from Sprint I have this to say
You would have to shoot me in the face to get me to ever give another penny to Sprint. Their 3g data speeds are horrific in most places (even in places that have network vision dine, it's just "meh" speed, still sub par) I could never get above a 20 kb/s download rate. Not to mention how much more expensive they are with their plans (when I was with then, I had the cheapest available, 450 min and unlimited everything else for 69.99 a month.) Back in the day, Sprint could compete, but they let their towers become dated and do to little to late when they finally do decide to do something about it. Not to mention hour they boned their wimax phone buyers.

Rather it be Dish than Sprint. Had a 4g phone since wimax came out... then LTE.... Still no 4g in Savannah. I said goodbye to them when the S4 came out and switched to tmo. Got them to cancel the early termination fee because of the past few years of bad service in the entire Southeast area of GA and SC. Took a week of convincing.
Then Tmo: It was instant "oh this is what 4g is like!" Roommate is still getting 10-100 KILObytes on Sprint, while I'm getting 15-26mb on Tmo. Suck it Sprint.

Thats hillarious. Sprint DOES NOT have the money to take over a network that is triple in size to the one they already have. I also don't see how a tv company wants a cell phone network. Seems to me that AT&T tried this not too long ago. The result? Fed Govt said "Nope, not going to happen" AT&T got pissy and walked away.. but not before paying T-Mo a pretty sizeable chunk of cash because the merger didn't go through.
Don't see anyone picking up T-Mo in the near future.

yeah as it was said AT&T tried to buy them out and the US government put a big red flag in that. people (such as myself) are leaving sprint to go with tmo because of the better service and price. plus, not sure if youve seen/heard the commercials but AT&T are trying to stay afloat by copying tmo's not contract deals... oh and to the guy who said something about a tv company buying a cell company.... even though verizon started as a phone company im fairly certain that their tv/internet service is pretty amazing.

On the other hand Tmo can take over Sprint and put that company out of business once and for all and put their customers out of their misery.
Sprint will be a lot better in a year. They have cash now because of Softbank. I was surprised they came out with the plans they did just recently but hopefully they lower them so that should help all of us.

Sprint will never have good towers. They are trash. They've had two years to improve since I've left them. My cousin still has them. They suck. They aren't going anywhere.

I'd have little problem with Dish, it could end up benefiting both sides. Still, T-Mobile stands to benefit less from a takeover now than they would have in the past. On the upswing as a carrier, or so it seems.
US wants 4 "major" carriers so unlikely tmo and sprint would merge anymore than tmo and at&t merger was approved by feds.
As for Dish (puke) they can't hardly run tv without being aluminum siding/used car salesmen. They'd be worse than the old nextel (which is where sprint got 95% of their terrible rape, pillage and burn customer service habits).
Full disclosure: was sprint customer almost 10 years (yes im a suicidal masochist lol) before givi g up in disgust & going to att for 3 and now on tmo.
TBH, only went with tmo because of pretty seamless wifi calling (no carrier signal works worth a dam at my house)
