[Q] s3 rooted on a mac? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

check the threads and did not find an answer. do anybody know how to rooted a s3 using a mac?

i believe you need windows to root. if you have an extra windows disk you can run it in boot camp.
you could have used Heimdall in the past, however they have not made one for the GSIII

Ok yea i have windows 7. I use vmare just want to know thanks again

[q]odin clone

has anyone heard of this "odin clone" for macs? some one mentioned it over at the fascinate threads. i was wondering if anyone has heard of this? i tried google and i couldn't find anything
Its called Heimdall, and it works on OS X, Windows, and Linux. Only thing is, most Macs have issues with it working. Something Apple did messed it up.

Heimdall doesn't work with the epic. They said it was odin just a clone to run on macs.

If you're saying you have heimdall working in osx, then you should explain to the community where you got the updated sbl that enables heimdall to work with osx on galaxy s phones... which most of them have received the update... except the epic.

I meant that the Epic worked with Heimdall, not my Mac. Sorry for the confusion. I used the Windows version.
Heimdall works with epics for linux and windows, just not osx.. works on macs with another os in bootcamp though...

Help please.

Hello all. I'm having the worst time rooting this phone. I have windows XP. I've tried the one click method and tried thru the command prompts. So anyone have any ideas how to do this on XP?
So I'm assuming you're having a driver problem... is the phone recognized properly when you plug it into the computer?
It comes up like its ok

Have you tried using the GNex Toolkit yet?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310
I used this on my replacement device with no problems. Unless this was the one-click method you were using before
Rooting
Have you tried doomlord's easy rooting kit...just hit the runme.bat button,while the phone's hooked up,and that's it

Where do I find this

Use the gnex toolkit and follow the instructions carefully. It is the easiest way in my opinion.

Although I recommend the Gnex Toolkit too.
Is your phone still being recognized when you go in to fast boot? I was having driver problems last night and it would recognize when the phone was powered on but not on fast boot. Somebody suggested downloading PDAnet and it fixed my issues

Read the thread in my siggy.
Should get you working drivers...unlocked...rooted...and ready to rumble.

Srsly, you haven't searched enough. Setting up sdk under Linux is dead easy if you're using a package oriented distro.
Hasn't crossed your mind Google itself has howtos for it?

Mac user looking to root my SGSIII from ATT

I don't know where to start, I saw a video on how to root with US SGSIII root file but the file is not available, where can I download it and if anyone has used a Mac and can give me some tips I would really appreciate it. I also, checked the wiki and did search but couldn't find anything.
Your going to have a hard time rooting with a mac, no Odin support. Just try a windows computer. There not to hard to find

Thanks a lot, I'll try Bootcamp and see how it goes. Basically I should start with Odin right?

Yes. I believe there us an sgs3 toolkit in developer's section that can root it too. I have not used this method so I can't tell you how well it works

Good luck
So wait - is there no other way at the moment to root a GS3 on a Mac? I usually don't mind experimenting with terminal, but damn that seems involved/risky.

to be honest, the easiest way is to just borrow a pc for the initial rooting using odin. afterwards, you can just use adb on your mac to copy files to and from your phone.
Just install a 30 day trial of Fusion or Parallels, load up Windows and you're on your way.
Just download everything you need onto a flash drive walk into a best buy Walmart or target and do it there. Takes 5 minutes

Root on a Mac?

Hey guys this is my second OG. I had that rooted and it was sooooo silky smooth. So smooth. The new one I have is not rooted. My windows laptop went out so I got a new one but I had to get a Mac for work. Now I need to root again. I may be wrong (Feel free to troll on this) but its not possible to root on a Mac. This phone not rooted is trash. I mean it's ok but I need to try out this CM 10.1. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I used Motochopper. As for unlocking the boot loader? Idk. I tried and bricked it. Best buy replaced it for me but I'm not gonna risk doing it again

The last post in this thread is your best option on a Mac. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38803728
Otherwise, Windows or Linux.
