I have the LG L01E red version. It came in just a few hours ago so I can't tell very much yet.
I will tell a few things about the camera and overall performance. ( Note: I came from a galaxy s3 therefore I will make a few comparisons with it:cyclops:.)
Camera:
The camera is 13mp and has a lot gimmicks like voice shutter, time catch shot etc.. The gimmicks are nice but it will slow the camera down in making pictures. The galaxy s3 was faster in taking and processing the pictures although the difference isn't that big.
Settings are also highly customizable as you expect from most devices nowadays. You'll find standard setting like; whitebalance, storage, ISO and that kind of stuff.
And now the most important thing: Picture quality.
To be honest... I'm actually quite disappointed with the picture quality.:crying:. Most of the pictures I took were kinda hazy. Many details are blurry. But I think this is a software issue because I've seen other lg optimus g devices with much better camera quality. There is another bad thingy about the camera which is the autofocus. It just keeps autofocussing automatically. Normally you would have to press a button to focus before it starts to take a picture but now it just keeps going focussing continously. (custom rom yay)
The front cam is simply crap. There's is a lot of noise.
For a flagship I'm kinda dissapointed with the cam but let's move on to the overall performance.
Overall performance: Is basically as you would expect of a s4 pro. It's like a exynos quadcore on steroids.
Transitions between launcher and apps are almost instantly, srolling is smooth, browsing, zooming are working without any lag.
Watching video's is a pleasure on the screen.
This phone beats the s3 in overall performance without a doubt.
I can't say anything about the battery performance yet. This phone has a 2210mah battery in it. But I guess the battery performance will be average.
On a sidenote: this phone only has 2 languages: english and japanese. It also has infrared (why?????) and a long big ass antenna for tv. But the tv function only works in japan sadly.:crying:... Oh and it came with a docking station out of the box.
I'm going to try to root this thing now
If you have any questions, let me know.
EDIT: Rooting failed. I had to hard reset the phone to get it working normally. So don't try the korean/AT&T root methods if you have the LG 01E
thanks for the information, i have one s3 too, and i thinking change for Docomo LG Optimus G L-01E, where you buy your phone?

The phone is awesome! Although I didn't expect phone's dimensions to be this big. But you definitely made a good choice. I hope the devs will help to unleash the real potential of this device in the future.
i also hope for support for the japanese version.. i will be receiving mine this week..hahaha... our problem now is rooting... so we just go for now with simple plaything apps for now.. but yup..for me it is really awesome... i believe this is the only device for now that supports the SDXC format... and the battery as well is replaceable and with more capacity than the international version... but then again..we need XDA support.. but first things first is the help of the LG ADMINS to unlock our bootloaders.. without it..dunno what is our future
cheers to all of us L-01E USERS!!!
I will be receiving mine in about two day in the mail. After all the forums I have been reading thru I honestly have a bad feeling about purchasing this one for the sake of root. I don't think there is gonna be anyone from XDA to jump on ship with the docomo and the fact that the boot loaders are locked makes it even less likely. Ugh!! Should of just went and got the bell version or half kicking myself thinking I should have went with the HTC OneX+. If anyone finds anymore info on the likely hood tho please feel free to PM me.
I also have no hope on support from the community anymore..
But a last resort could be a bounty thread for rooting and/or maybe bootloader unlocking. But even then ........
wish more people will join us
hope root methed for this device come soon
are we all L-01E users here?

I think this could be a dark future ahead. Nothing seems to work on our japan versions sad.
maybe when more people join us,L-01E will be the best choice in LG optimus G,
right now we should wait and wish someone to help us

bad news...I also think L-01E is the best device in all of the optimus g versions

I'm pretty much sold on it as long as it supports Google Wallet, which I am sure that it will. I
Of course AT&T would blow a great phone and give it a crap camera.

I'm almost thinking about switching to Sprint, since I'm really having a hard time finding a phone I truly like. Good job to Sprint for keeping the BEASTLY 13mp camera.

You should, just hopefully you don't use too much data if you don't live in a LTE area. Their speeds are terrible! I personally don't have them, but I have some friends that do. It took around 10 minutes to download a 10 MB file.
Looking forward to getting this phone as iv been using optimus one for longest time and been very happy with its proformance

As a long time sprint user (also my parents and grandparents, uncles, etc) use sprint, I believe that is a device or location specific issue. On 3g I've downloaded files that size in under a minute. In a few seconds on wimax. I might upgrade to this from the classic Evo. Just got an upgrade two months ago.

I pre-ordered my yesterday , I have 14 days to return it if it doesn`t pan out, but from the specs and everything it should be awesome, I know there is a lot of people bashing it on here from the S3 guys, I had a S3, you know what, got rid of it because crappy reception, I flashed every file know, and it never fix it, so I off it for Sony Xperia Ion, its night and day difference I`m able to make a call.,

Yeah, I have an Optimus S, but seeing as I had to overclock it to make the performance even just acceptable and then having support mostly cut off for it makes me not want to go LG again. So it's the GSIII for me. And seeing as I don't play any games, I don't think I will have any issues with it.

I was about to buy this amazing phone, when I remembered that it has a locked bootloader which means no CM10.1 which means im stuck with android 4.1. Then I researched a bit and found out that the Samsung Galaxy S4 is highly rumored to come out at CES 2013, which is probably gonna be running android 4.2 and be able to have CM10.1! So I guess this is goodbye!
You can unlock it.

Hi everybody. I thinking about getting a new phone but I'm having a hard time deciding between the evo lte or the lg optimus. I currently have the evo 3d. Honestly I'm leaning more towards the optimus. Is it really as good as it seems? Obviously the specs are amazing but if you actually have the phone or have used it, would you recommend that I get it too. I also noticed more activity on these forums which is a good thing. I'm not as skilled as most of you but I like to root my phone and all that... Thanks for the help!!

I would honestly stay away from the Evo 4G LTE. I was a pre-order coming off an OG EVO. Sense 4 is way over aggressive on task killing and the stock mail apk would not translate html from my work exchange server , so I got lines of code. The phone also has very poor performance picking up lte signal. Deck's cm10 made the phone much better (Deck is the only saving grace in my opinion).
Sprint switched me into the S3 last week, and I picked up a lgog off Craigslist for cheap. I think both of these phones are superior to the Evo 4Gm lte . I do like the Evo 4G lte display though.

Personally after owning a 3D, idk how you could consider HTC again. I wanted to throw mine against a wall. I absolutely love the Optimus G and would highly recommend it to other people. The camera isn't as good as the Evo LTE or the GS3 but it's good enough for what I need. Performance is lightning quick, battery life is great, very high build quality, and the screen is gorgeous. And LG's UI is actually really nice, I like it much better than Sense.

I understand what you're your saying; but when I bought the 3d I was coming from (ironically) an LG phone. But that phone was very, very basic. So when I got the 3d, my first smartphone, it was the biggest thing to me at the time. Reading your comment I can tell that I'll have that same feeling if I get the Optimus G, if its as great as many people say. Thanks for your insight.

My first smart phone was the Evo 4G. It was mind blowingly awesome. Like I literally loved everything about it, except for the top mounted power button that felt extremely cheap, and they continued that with the Evo 3D. Why HTC keeps thinking the top is the best place for the unlock/power button is beyond me...I'm so happy that it's on the side with the OG. I ended up with a 3D cause I shattered the screen on my 4G and they sent me one through insurance. After two years with HTC, I hate Sense and I'm just ready to move on. I'm not really brand biased, so I was open to LG. I had a LG Shine years back and I absolutely loved that phone. Even without a buzzing dev community it's still a great phone. I think you'll be very happy here though
New to this group. Had HTC for a long time and now the Samsung Epic 4G Touch (love this phone). Sounds like we had a similar update path. I went from the original Evo 4G to the Epic 4G Touch(which I sadly dropped in my soup at a sushi restaurant, phone still kind of works, btw, but the charging light won't turn off) and am now also on the Optimus G. With that being said, here's what you will miss:
1. The super saturated Super AMOLED Plus display. It will take time for your eyes and brain to adjust to normal color temperatures so don't let that put you off.
2. Samsung's Smart alarm. If you don't know what it is though, then you won't miss it, but it was a built in alarm function that would wake you gently to nature sounds. I missed it horribly...at first...until I downloaded Alarm Clock Xtreme and a $0.99 nature sounds album from Amazon.
3. Getting used to not having a microSD card slot.
4. Removable battery...not a huge deal since the Optimus G battery is much larger capacity, but I did have the stock battery on my Epic 4G Touch swell before I got the battery replaced, hopefully that won't be an issue with the Optimus "non-removable" battery.
5. Not going to lie, the camera on the Epic is better. With that being said, You may want to look into Camera ZoomFX for the time being as the Optimus has an issue with locking in autofocus, losing it and locking in again....even when you touch to focus. The aforementioned app doesn't appear to have that problem so it's believed to be a problem in LG's camera software, not necessarily the hardware.
With that being said, here's what you'll gain:
1. Quite possibly one of the best LCD displays out at the moment(excepting the Droid DNAs freakishly high pixel count). 720P movies look amazing on the Optimus G.
2. 50GB box.com account. Just download it from the play store directly from the phone and they will make 50 GB available to you for free. You can then download it on your Epic and use it to easily transfer files from one phone to another wirelessly as well as using it on your computer as well.
3. I never did the ICS update on my Epic as I was rooted, so maybe this wasn't an issue, but ICS no longer separates app storage partitions so the full amount of formatted memory on the phone is available to be used for app store.
4. 2 GB of ram(I guess in truth you're gaining one since the Epic had 1GB).
5. If you have an MHL adaptor for your Epic, rest assured knowing it will work with the Optimus G, unlike the GS3 and Note 2 where Samsung broke with traditional MHL compatibility forcing you to buy their overpriced MHL adaptor.
6. Working GPS. I dare you to download GPS test on the Epic and then the Optimus when you receive it and go outside and see how long they take to get a lock and how many satellites the phones are actually connecting to. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. My Epic would never connect to more than a handful at a time and had accuracy ranges measured in tens of yards. The Optimus G connects magnitudes faster and to more satellites with an average accuracy of 10 feet as far as I've observed.
7. Build quality to put Samsung to shame. Co-worker of mine got the GS3 about the same time I got my Optimus and for 14 days, he really had to convince himself he was ok with the subjectively chintzy feeling of the GS3 in comparison to the solid construction of the Optimus(he came from an original Evo as well so weight and solidity were what he was used to).
8. Less tangible, but the hope is that since this phone is a near clone of the Nexus 4, there should be plenty of development on it and since LG is in the Nexus program now, hopefully Jellybean will follow in short order.
9. Effective radios. I already mentioned GPS, but I've found wifi to be much stronger with this phone as is 3G(I won't compare 4G since they use different technologies). In one of the other posts someone posted the FCC measurements and this phone is right up there with the Motorola Photon(Moto usually seems to design some of the most effective radios out there so that's high praise).
10. Last but not least, his beast of a processor. The Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core with the Adreno 320 GPU. Quadrant scores in the mid to high 7000 range are now within your grasp(for what it's worth...bragging rights, maybe). With that being said, the phone behaves like it's on steroids. Nothing slows it down.
Welcome to the group!
Ok, I need a couple of opinions on what to do ... Just an hour ago I've recieved an intruiging offer ... To trade my GNexus for a LG Optimus G ... My GNexus is really in a mint condition, from the day I bought it it had an SGP Case + screen protectors, so no visible scratches on it ... And today a guy offers me a brand new, unopened Optimus G in trade for my GNexus ( which, by the way, has a decent amount of accessories - extended battery - regular battery - 2 back covers - 5 screen protectors - 2 SGP Cases ) + 120 $ ... I mean, I have to pay additional 120 $, not the other guy I wasn't really planning to buy another phone ( YET ) ... Atleast for another 10 - 12 months ... But he made such a good offer I don't really have much time to play with my GNexus lately, since I got a new job ... So what'cha think folks? Trade or not?
Check out the optimus forum and get a feel for the community and check the q&a section for common problems and general section to see how complicated it is to root and what not.

As I said, don't have much free time lately ... So don't know IF I will root it at all ... Maybe a bit later, wanted to hear thoughts of the GNexus community first
this is a pretty good deal. its a much more powerful phone, it Should have Jellybean Fairly soon, build quality is really nice, and screen is amazing. the UI is a little "meh" but the bad part (launcher) can be covered up fairly easily. but you just have to ask yourself what is more important to you....quick updates with new features about 2 times a year, or powerful hardware that will probably not get past 4.1.1

I was rather waiting on a new Nexus device, or perhaps for the Phone X ... So I would switch my phone anyway in about a year or so ... And what's crossing my mind is the fact that I'd probably sell Optimus G for more cash then I would sell the GNexus in a period of 1 year ...
So you have time to read our comments but not to take less than a minute to look in the Optimus G section? Seems legit.

Actually I did read about the Optimus G, not really much of a dev support there, no need to flame right away mate ...
What I'm looking here, are opinions weather some1 else would accept the same trade ... If yes, why - if not, why again?
there is a reason why he makes such a offer.

I'm asking current owners IF they'd buy another Optimus.
And why or why not.
I wouldn't buy the G2, because it'll be way too soon for me to buy a new phone, but when my upgrade rolls around I'll certainly consider another Optimus phone. So far I've had the Optimus S and the Optimus G, two fantastic phones. The S can actually run jellybean fairly smoothly, it's amazing.

I would buy another optimus and this is a fairly decent upgrade, however, I will still wait a year. Right now, my two favorite companies are HTC and LG. They make high quality, innovative stuff.

I just sold my optimus G to get the HTC One and I'm very happy with my decision but that being said I would still buy another optimus. I was so happy with my purchase of the optimus G and wouldnt have given it up if it werent for me getting such a great deal on the HTC one. $30.
LG came from dirt phone after dirt phone and surprised us all with the optimus G. Surprised everyone and did it with style. All anyone could talk about was galaxy s3 this evo lte that, razr, one x, ect. Then this phone came out. Sh!t all over the compition and even mocked samsung with their "4" billboard. The ONLY thing keeping this device from being any more popular is the fact that they have fail so many times before with previous devices.
Now coming out with a device to compete with the note series and another G to keep up with the one and s4 even though they don't have to. The optimus G is still just as good as the high end phones coming out today. They are doing this to keep their name fresh and to hopefully one day soon give people more of a choice when going to upgrade rather than depending on the reps to push their stuff.

LG could be the next Samsung. Before the s1, they made crap devices, such as the moment. The s1 and s2 were good, but not a household name. Then comes the s3 and its incessant advertising and people think that just because they advertise that it's the best phone, so since HTC is a smaller company, and has a lower budget, they are getting screwed despite having higher quality products. Oh how the tables have turned since the evo. No one had heard of a galaxy, it wasn't even offered as that on carriers. The only phones sprint advertised were the evo line, until the s3.

No. The camera on this phone is not very good. Also there is not enough devs working on this phone. The Galaxy phones have awesome devs working on every tiny thing.

yeah 100 roms based on the same stock deodexed rom is real development :good:
Well..I've only had this phone since this Friday but... judging from how zippy this one feels compared to most every thing out now...I'd say yes. Granted I'm coming from a GS2 but so far I really like this one.

Just curious, what made you decide on this rather than the One or S4?
Well unforeseen circumstances forced me to buy a phone outright off contract . So at first I asked about the galaxy s4 and the Sprint rep said that they could not sell it off contract... something about because it has a SIM card :what: BUT...I still have an upgrade coming a little later, probably around the time the Galaxy Note 3 is out and what ever else comes out by then.

I think there is only a 50 dollar difference between the phones (One S4 and This one) but I was pushing it money wise getting this lol

I agree not as much development but how much do we really need we have the main AOSP ROMs with a few minor bugs, we have tweaked stock all we really need is sense 5 which is coming soon. The camera is garbage in low light situations but in good lighting it is nice.

When is your upgrade? If it's within 6 months then it would have been a lot cheaper to pay the early upgrade fee and got an s4 or one than to pay outright

I definitely would, but I would like to see one with 64GB internal or better yet, a microSD slot. I find myself constantly moving stuff off from my phone to computer to make space (photos, videos, backups).
Nope. I'm in fact in the process of getting rid every phone I've been on since the Photon (LGOG included) and going back to the Photon or the Atrix. Every one of them has been a downgrade and a waste of silicon in my eyes.

And most of those "ROMs" are themes and copycat tweaks distributed as ROMs. So the Galaxy phones have a couple true ROMs and a ton of themes pretending to be ROMs.

By all means you guys are more then welcome to set up to the plate. Sorry there is a lack of dev support for this phone, but the people have worked on this phone have worked very hard. You have no idea. We put in 3 months or so into getting you guys working Aosp. Getting everything working was a total pain in the ass. LGs implementation of EFS was a night mare to get passed, but we came up with a good solution. We probably lost 10 phones or so before we figured it out. I know I personally had two replacements. So be happy for what you have. I know for a fact all of the roms in the original dev section are working and stable. I was actually thinking to myself yesterday that I am actually starting to like this this phone (even though it has been a total ***** to me through the entire process).
If you get a chance. Thank Shelnutt2, thecubed, Autoprime, dvxher and Synergy when you get a chance. Also, Mike_77, Redmk, chachin, Interloper, ilkinansr92 and last but not least my favorite tester Theo2889. Without these guys none of this would ever of happened.

Guys like this are a big reason I WOULD buy another Optimus.
We may not have a million ROMs like the SIII, but I have maintained from day one that this is a good thing for us. Our ROMs are stable, functional, and well supported. The Quality v Quantity theory. The devs that we have are committed and really produce some great work. Even builds that have been labeled as "unstable", in my experience, have been pretty danged stable.
Additionally, I think that LG really knocked it out of the park with the hardware on this phone. I would love to see an SD card slot, but haven't really had need for one thanks to cloud services, I would just like the option. I would like to see a better sensor on the camera, but let's be honest, if you want glamour shots you should buy a camera, not a phone. Other than that, I literally have no complaints about this Optimus G and I go so far as to say that it is the best phone I have owned to date. I cannot wait to see what it does when they finally deploy LTE in Denver, but that's sprints problem.
I think this is a great phone but I wonder how the sales are going so far? I hope LG isn't about to do like dell did with the streak. No advertising, No promotion, just kinda let it be a silent option. It would be a shame this really could be a best seller if they did like Samsung and let people know about it.

yeah...but sammy is #-1 in mobile phone....lg is a kind of little brother compare to sammy...less publicity....slow invalidity at first for newest device....going to lg for the first time with "OGP"....still not received yet!! have a galaxy note and love it....the way a see it for lg developement is....less support from developper...of course less software (like mobile odin) but with cwm it can do the job when come time to flashing rom.... its about the same kind of product idealogy...since they"re both korean compagny...
of course the g pro is far superior then the galaxy note2...have take the bet....time will tell if i"ll buy another lg or comeback to sammy???
selling are not too bad...http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/01/lg-celebrates-500k-optimus-g-pro-sales-in-its-home-country/...at the april first...500.000 device been sold.....but again compare to the galaxy note/note 2 these number are small....

Yep I have to agree. If LG drops the ball then this will be my last LG phone. Why make a great product then not tell the world about it? That's a great way to fail.

im about to switch to this phone from an LG Revolution which never took off... After playing with the Gpro and a note 2 side by side I definitely have settled on this device! I sincerely hope however support for it is better from LG then for the Revolution. My bet is it certainly will be since it is their top of the line device.
I've never seen a commercial from LG for their smartphones. Have seen commercials from carriers promoting the devices, but can't remember one from the manufacturer. Compare that to the Samsung commercials.
They still make nice phones. Hopefully we get an unlocked bootloader and some interesting development.
Given we can now root, freeze apps/debloat, and get things a la the qslide notifications fix, we're doing ok. You can use launchers and other available apps, etc to get some of the other changes you might want.
at&t told me its selling very well. they only had 1 left at the store i bought mine. i think once we get development it will increase to. the phone is much better than any other phone out there.
First time LG buyer here and I am really impressed with this phone. Been with apple since 08
This phone has gotten me curious. It has my dream specs for a phone. Too bad its not available outside the US.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
Availability is the key to this question. ATT only in the US was a stupid decision, IMHO, and so far I've only heard of Korea and India. One of the reviews i saw said that the ogpro is not considered a flagship phone by LG. Maybe that's why they're not super hyping it a la GS3 and GS4...
My first LG was the Nexus 4 and I loved the device. Build quality was awesome. The dev community was also the best. I went to this device because I liked the specs compared to my note2 I had. My wife now has it. But im very very very disapointed with no ROMS yet. NO Unlocked bootloader. S4 and HTC already have them.

I considered a GS4 or HTC ONE. Reason I said NO on the HTC ONE was screen size. I would of just kept my Nexus 4. Reason I said NO on the S4 was because they had the GPro in-stock.
I see LG ads for this phones on the sites I go to. And I've also seen AT&T ads for it as well on random sites. They are classing it against the Note 2 in the ads.
I just got mine today and I am already in love with this phone. I did notice some lag when I played beach buggy but then I realized I turned on the cpu control feature and once I switched it off everything was good to go.
I love the phone too. It plays shadowgun dead zone better than the one or the s4. I'm speaking from experience. Its surprising considering the screen size.

I had to take my first one in to exchange it because of a dead pixel. The AT&T people didn't even realize they had it. It should have come out before the s4 or the One to gain any traction.

I love this phone. Left apple for sg3, and this is my first LG phone. Its runs buttery smooth and is as fast as like greased lightning. So far so good!
they probably arnt selling well in the US because LG isnt really concentrating on the us market, thus only 1 carrier for the lgogpro. If anything probably the optimus g2 will have 3-4 carriers this fall
Ya, the Optimus G and the G2 coming later this year are the flagship models. G2 will supposedly use the Snapdragon 800, but then there's this rumor...
http://bgr.com/2013/05/07/sprint-optimus-g-pro-release-date/
Is this a OGPro, slightly redesigned to get around exclusivity? G2? Next Nexus?
Dear LG users, what do you think about the futur OGP developpement???
I'm thinking about switching my DesireZ for this optimus g pro. One of the most complete phone on the market.
But, I'm not so sure about the developpement . Other LG devices aren't the most supported...
Indications are that Sprint is going to get one this quarter LS980 so if that is true then we should hopefully see more accessories come along since it will be on (2) US carriers.

I agree completely. If LG would put a little marketing behind their phones I'm sure they'd sell a little better and thereby get more support from the dev community.
I am coming from a Note 2 and love this phone though I am about to die with not being able to apply a bunch of ROM. (I am really hoping for an advanced kernel to really stretch out the battery life.

I'll add another voice to those concerned about the locked bootloader, and more generally, custom development. If there were a working version of Paranoid 3.15 on the OGP, I'd very quickly be $550 less wealthy.
I just bought this phone... loving it so far even in stock form! Just so powerful ans smooth.
