Dropped my phone last week and made a nice dent in the faceplate. For those who don't know, it's some sort of metal (probably aluminum). Anyway, I'm not up for replacing a phone that works, so I'm looking to replace the faceplate. Anyone know of anywhere online they can be purchased?
A case is definitely coming now too..
UPDATE below (#11)
Wish I could help you, the front plate is some sort of soft metal, and the black scratches off it very easily, I got a replacement due to that in the first week, it's had a TPU case since. one of the old style ones hard as hell to press the power button but it's barely noticeable that's why I love it.
Yeah, I'm kicking myself in the ass royally for not getting a case. If I can ever get a replacement faceplate, I'm going to put it in a case. Not worth an insurance claim though when the phone is functionally fine.
All kinds of parts can be found on this site.

ebay has a few in a bunch of diff colors. only some are buy it now eligible tho.
Saw the link posted in General.. Going to be trying them out on my next paycheck..
post your results/difficulty level.
Will do. Placing the order tomorrow, hope to have by Friday.
Here is a good teardown of it: http://www.repairlaunch.com/blog/htc-droid-incredible-2-teardown-repair/
I am curious as to how difficult it is to do though, wouldn't mind swapping out for a red housing
Bezel should be here today. It's at the local post office, so it bloody well better. I need to go source a Torx T-5 though from somewhere around here.. Probably going to have to do that at lunch since we don't have anything out back.
Okay, my thoughts? Not worth the hassle. Not for the flimsy metal. If you broke your screen and are replacing that, then it might be worth it. What a total pain in the ass, and I didn't even bother..
Prevented me from doing it as well. I dropped my phone the day after I got it on the pavement. Luckily only had a few scratches on the edges, but the TPU case covers them up beautifully. Definitely not worth taking my entire phone apart lol.
Not in the slightest. The metal fascia is all bent to hell now because I had separated it from the original piece, but you can't tell that after I put it back on and put my Otterbox Defender on it..
Otterbox FTW!

Awwww Yeah! Amazing one! I'll buy one like this! Ebay, here I go!
Mine started ripping after about 9 months on the spot where the rubber edges of the case meet the actual case itself (The line that you see going all across, distinguishing between the two types of materials used for the case). All in all it was still a pretty good case, mines been through hell, probably why it ripped.
I just got mine on the mail today. It's black, and it's not cheap.
I decided to get one after reading so many good reviews about it. I haven't opened it yet, so wish me luck.
i love the case..... how may colorsto choose from??? anyone got any good seller from ebay to recommend??? thanks in advance
I do not know that he will not be used for a long sticky ~
But do not know whether there are other colors
That looks nice but it must be hard to pop the USB cover with it...

Hey could you say me what did u do when it ripped off?? Did you stick it?? Because I am afraid as it is slightly ripping off the edges...What case are you using now??
Where can I puchase one of these other than Ebay?
Ha! If you plan on getting one from Ebay, plan on shelling out $20. It's a cool case, but for now, I will stick to my $2 Hard Rubber case.
Too bad nobody's selling this over here... would love to try one.
I have been using the black version of the same case. Available at Croma stores all across India. Cost me around Rs.800 (appx $20). Real good proection, also adds a touch of class.
i have the black one but i,m not happy with that on my phone... make my phone bigger and the case from x10 ii is pretty good on scratches

Nice case ! Has others colors ?
Miraculously from 4 ft onto concrete, and I have a chip in the top of the casing, nothing more. Anyone that deals with plastics or such like, any idea if there is something I can use to fill it? Not sure if I wanna call insurance on it as it is a minor chip, but what has been see cannot be unseen so would be willing to give it a go. I'm sure model shops would have something, but before I track one down does anyone have any ideas?
TIA

Tis only a minor flesh wound, I wouldn't worry about it. After my experience with the Otterbox Defenseless messing up my screen I stopped caring. If you're obsessive over it and have the insurance, return it. Personally though, I wouldn't until something really bad happened. Instead, I would look at this as an opportunity to see how much more abuse it could take before I really needed to make an insurance claim.

Please, don't be the guy who returns something just because you ****ed up.
I normally don't buy cases for my phones, but the galaxy nexus is so damn slippery that I just had to. Get a black hard silicon case. It will cover up your ding and keeps the slick look. I have dropped mine so many times and there is ZERO physical damage to the phone.
Yeah I never really put a case on my phones either, but this is the first time I decided to do so. I have a TPU case on it and it adds a little bulk, but I don't mind. I always have an invisibleshield on my phones though.

The bulk is pretty negligible with a phone that is already so big. I wish I put a screen protector on mine. All of my friends/family members with gorilla glass have pristine and beautiful screens after nearly a year or two of use with no screen protector.
Sadly, the galaxy nexus doesn't have gorilla glass and I have at least 4 scratches. Yeah, it sucks but oh well. Still an AMAZING phone and user experience.
If it's where I think it is, going by your description, you can just replace the housing.
Here's a video showing you how:
The housing is easy to find on eBay!
(If it's not the housing you've scratched, just ignore me )

Nah. I ****ed up. I'll be the first to admit, hence I want to repair rather then replace. I dislike cases to be honest and would rather not have one but I'll have a look as recommended, however, knowing that chip is there is killing me

Just replace the plastic housing. Its easy and cheap.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423785&goto=newpost
i would just replace the housing like the video above, ive had to replace by earpiece and opening the Nexus is sooo easy and you shouldnt have any problems, just make sure you have the right screwdriver so that you dont ruin the screws for later.
Unfortunately I need to sell my galaxy note 2 as I need the money.
There is a scratch on the screen and the silver "band" round the outside has dents and its paint has come off parts of it. The stylus at the top also has some paint missing.
What is the band part around the phone called? Like what is the part called? I can't find it on ebay.
To repair the scratch on the screen would I need to just replace the front glass housing?
Is it worth refurbishing phones "like new" before selling or will the money you spend on refurbishing be equal to what you gain.
Thoughts?
Will miss being a reader of this community. Some really great people!
It's called bumper. Stylus is S Pen obviously. Both shouldn't be really expensive. Unfortunately I don't think you can replace the glass alone, that's one of the drawbacks with Note II. You'll have to replace entire glass+digitizer I think.
Yeah refurbishing is definitely preferred. Should have really put on a case, that's why we all do it
info
at n7100, just like the s3 and htc one x and iphone4/5, the digitizer alone can't be replaced. you have to change the lcd, too. these two are glued toghether
I used the company above to order a replacement chassis for my htc one s before I sold it.
It was worth doing for that because it was scratched to hell and relatively straightforward to swap.

Hi, my clumsy idiot of a brother has just walked right across the charger wire of my Nexus 7 2013 and it dropped to the floor - luckily the screen seems ok but there is a decent sized chip on one edge of the outer shell.
I cannot return it where I got it from and I hate having cosmetically damaged things especially when I did not damage it, so I will not be happy until the damage is corrected.
Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the outer shell and replace with another?
By outer shell I mean the rubberised material you can feel on the back of the tablet, the same material at the edge is chipped so if I can replace the back which ultimately seems like the side as well (the back and side is one piece I think and is seperate to the glass part), then I can just swap for a new back that is not damaged.
Appreciate some ideas thanks.
Thanks

You're kidding me, this just happen while trying to work on that xbox controller thing?
It's certainly possible but finding one might be difficult, ebay would likely be the first place they pop up, another alternative is to cover it up for now with a fosman slim case, they go for about 7 bucks shipped, just ordered one myself.

Kind of I just put the thing on regular charge as I had given up for now on the controller went away and came back to find it having a lovely chip in the side crying:
Have been looking on Ebay for those cases that kind of clip on but most are patterned and I bet they are hard plastic, dammit I like the feel of the standard backing on the Nexus case
EDIT: Just noticed you mentioned a fosman case, never seen or heard of one but the link to it looks pretty decent, and would hide the chip.

You should make him pay for that fosman.
I also ordered one of these for when I am out an about, to hopefully prevent what just happened to you, I know $45 bucks, but in my case, I got a $50 gift card from a client which covered both those orders sans ~$5.
Yeah he payed for it, still wish it had not happened though. You're right best get one now should it happen to yours!

Good on him for paying up. Lucky I stay far away from siblings, not even in the same state, so I'm safe from that.
