Strange charge/discharge rates on 4.1.1 - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Never seen such odd charging cycles I can have my s2 on 3 % and plug into ac outlet and it will go to 29% for instance in 4 -5 minutes
yet immediately drain as fast as it charged
I didn't notice this on stock ota 4.0.4. until using jb 4.1.1ROMs
Any ideas ? I put a diff battery in same issues" this still doesn't explain the fast charge rate
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app

I have seen that as well. I can sometimes go from 50% to 100% in 30 min. I think it is just a bug in JB. There is a JB Tweak file that I hope makes this more accurate. I loaded it day before yesterday, and I have not noticed any charging bugs. Exit Only says there are some battery scripts in there to help with drain, so we will see.

I would download battery calibration from the play store and go from there
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA

Yeah this is an knows issue with jb ROMs. My workaround is an external charger and several batteries. The other option is to just leave the phone on the charger longer. I think they will stay at 99% for a long time.

I've been running KingKang ROM as my DDr and it will charge fast but it takes awhile for me to go from 99 to 100. My battery drain is great and this helped me out as well.

[Q] Charging Galaxy Nexus

I noticed that it takes about 2 hours to charge the battery from 0% to 100%
Do you guys leave it plugged the phone in for the night ?
Battery's life is great so far.
12 H
Screen on for 2.30 hours.
Calls 1.5 hours
1 exchange account
2 gmail account.
And still 20% left when I get back home.

I hate it. The battery is really bad compared to the GS2 that I had.

I was shocked at how bad the bat life was when I first got the phone but after a few days it really improved. I know you tend to use it more the first few days cos its new but I believe it also has something to do with how the phone calibrates the battery which takes a few days to do. Not entirely sure of the ins and outs but I know clockwork mod allows you to wipe the battery stats presumably undoing the battery calibration... something you prob only want to do if you are flashing a new rom that is supposed to be more efficient with power.
Yeah my batt life has improved compared to when i first got it. Compared to my Vibrant this phone charges faster from what i can tell. I also made sure im using a 1.0A rated charger. I found an OEM Samsung 1 amp charger on Amazon since my Nexus came with a UK plug and i didnt feel like using an adapter. Ive also used my ipod OEM usb charger which is rated the same output.
I don't leave my nexus on the charger anymore. Standby time is so good there is no need. And yes I also noticed this phone charges pretty fast.

Phone stuck at 99% while charging

I'm on FB17 and my phone is getting really hot while charging is stuck at 99%. It's been like this for a couple hours. anyone know what's up?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Is something running? When you're plugged in, you're still running off the battery. Mine only goes 100% if it's in standby while plugged in.
Nothings running at all
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Turn off the phone and let it charge.
If that doesn't work, pull the battery and let it sit for 2 minutes
Yeah, I'm having the same issue. Also read a few others were as well. I'm going to try and recalibratey battery. Ill keep you posted.
+1 to Nibrs' comment. I would shutdown the phone completely, let it take a full charge WITHOUT the android OS running, unplug the charger, remove the battery for a few minutes then boot the phone back up. After it's been up and running and settled in, plug the charger back in once again. It could take 30-45 minutes to finish this last trickle charge.
I've had this issue since cm9 alpha 1. Don't really care.

Thanks for your non-contribution to this thread.
Alright, are calibrating didn't work ( might of helped battery life tho) it charges to 100% only when my phone is off. As soon as I turn it on, its at 99%. I miss my blue led.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Mine will be stuck on 99% for a long time also but mine will eventually say 100%. It has to do with how the battery is charged. Once it gets to a certain point it only does a slow trickle charge to maintain the battery level. So for the 99% part it's supposed to do that but you shouldn't have those heat issues. Did you flash a new ROM recently by chance?

Since GB my phone has done this same thing. I just figured its an ICS thing...really if u think about it, ur phone is at 100% while charged...u unplug it and it is using battery so you're at 99.999 percent off the bat...seems like the phone just doesn't round less than whole numbers.

You're not actually fully charged when you unplug it. It would be in the 90% area because it doesn't constantly charge the battery. It stops once it gets to a certain point and then will start charging again once the battery hits a certain minimum level.
Well, took almost 12hrs of charging but finally got to a 100%. Btw. I'm on blu kuban rom. Not sure if its a ics bug or a battery issue. Never had this happen in stock.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
I think it is supposed to float between 95% - 100% to avoid damaging the battery.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Don't know if this a factor but had this happen today on ff09. Battery jumped from 54% to 10% on one reboot (phone was hot)... Rebooted again and back up to 26%.
Got home, plugged in on LG cord to 99%. Changed to Sammy charger, finished 2 hrs later.

How many cycles have you gone since flashing? I have been on blu kuban for over a month now. I update the instant I see an update. Most times it takes around 3 full battery cycles before I see decent life. This last update seemed to take longer than usual to see normal battery behavior. First I would try draining battery to 5%, run battery calibration script in the updater then fully charge and calibrate again. If it continues I would recommend the standard restore to stock and reinstall.

[Q] New battery problems

Hi guys
recently i bought new battery because my old one used to jump
from 70% to 100% and had really bad battery life.
i replaced the battery and calibrated it and i noticed that the 20% from 100% to 80% goes down realy fast
should i recaibrate the battery?
what should i do? thanks!
It depends on the rom u r using.
All roms except stock based roms have this problem.
Sent from my GT-S5660 using Tapatalk 2
Im using aosp by maclaw studios
the weird thing is that the 70% acts like it 100% and im having really good battery life
from 70%
Its a problem in sumsung charge system.
In custom roms when u full charge battery it is about 80 % charged.
Sent from my GT-S5660 using Tapatalk 2
I think you should charge it when the phone is turned off. I noticed that my phone tells me it is "Charged" when it is turned on. However the actual percentage in Go Power Master is 80%.
Sent from my GT-Xperia S using xda app-developers app
so it has nothing to do with the battery quality and the battery calibration?
the problem will not appear in the stock rom?
Thats if needed. To check if the battery is fully charged, try these step.
1. Charge the when it is running until it says "Charged".
2. Turn off the phone and keep the charger plugged in.
3. The battery image will appear. If it is not full, wait till it full. When it shows 100% then it is fully charged.
Note that powering up the phone takes some significant amount of battery. If the battery is still draining fast. Calibrate may be needed.
Sent from my GT-Xperia S using xda app-developers app
enchanced rom shows 100 percent but still shows charging. So I guess it fully charges
Well the battery level seems to be jumping unusually from time to time . What i do is i wipe the battery stats from cwm , i leave it over night to fully charge without doing anything to it , calibrate the battery with `battery calibration` from playstore , full discharge and full charge again . I do this after each rom that i flash and it seems to do good and seems to point the right amount. Anyway the charge lasts as i hope it lasts , from 1 day if i do stuff with it like some wifi , some messaging , many minutes of calls .... to about 3 days if i do only calls. Cheers

100% battery to 96% after unplugging charger

It seems that many people are having this issue...
I've noticed when using the new T-mobile MC6 4.1.2 roms
that when I take my phone off the charger showing 100%
it instantly drops to 96% or 97%
I own multiple batteries and have an external charger
when I charge externally it shows 100% correctly
even if I plug in charger and unplug it again will still show 100%
it seems the new roms are not allowing the battery to charge fully
let me know what you guys think...at same time I will keep testing and posting
Same here.

Ran into the same problem a month ago. I flashed my phone back to stock, re rooted my phone, and then ran a battery callibrater app. I got better battery life and a quicker recharge. Don't forget to fully discharge your battery and run the app again. I hope this helps and happy modding.
Try taking out the battery for a couple minutes then put it back in and fully recharge. Should recalibrate it.

So far I have swapped my battery out 2x with my external charger
both times rebooting into JMT JB it showed 100% properly both times
in the middle of the night last night I pulled the charger out when it said 100%
it dropped again immediately to 97%
I plugged it back in... when I woke up I unplugged it again stayed at 100%
15 min later still at 100%
I will try and install AOKP and see if the problem stops
it seems that the rom is reading the battery wrong
when I boot to recovery it shows different percentage
right now I am at 92% in JMT JB
when I go to recovery it say 95%
when I reboot back to rom it says 92% again
I went back to AOKP M1
and the better shows the same % in rom as in recovery...
going to keep trying diff things...
its gotta be the 4.1.2 T-mobile rom
You do realize you could edit a previous post instead of spamming your thread just to bump it.
As for your issue it seems to be a battery calibration problem...just let the ROM settle in and you'll be fine
Have you tried using gsam to see what your battery level is after you unplug it

thanx I appreciate your input... cheers m8
btw... after using AOKP and doing 2 charges...
the phone went back to reporting the 100%
correctly and didn't drop when when unplugged
I will also be testing my phone with official koodo/telus roms 4.1.2 based
to see if its just t-mobile 4.1.2 based roms with this problem
This should be me last post on this subject...
after trying the latest Koodo and Telus roms and charging my phone using them
the same glitch occurs when you pull out micro usb shows less than 100%
my conclusion... this issue seems to be on the stock 4.1.2 based roms only
and is not a significant issue...
if you want 100% just re-plug it back in for a little while... and fixed
hope these posts have helped to understand this silly little issue
cheers m8's

20 minutes at 100% charge.

Hello everyone,
I observed a strange behavior of my arc s , when the phone reaches 100% charge and later when i unplug it my phone spends almost 20 minutes at this point and after some time it starts to discharge ie. it comes down by 1%.
But if i use it hear after it discharges rapidly.
I find this behavior very odd !
Can anyone explain me this behavior ???
Thank you in advance.

Check battery use
Check battery use to see what is consuming the battery
Maybe WIFI and sleep policy,Bluetooth,Network type WCDMA/GSM ,GPS and accounts sync ?
Observe the diagram or the slope in the battery use to see is your battery draining fast or is it normal, also what rom and kernel are you using
Isn't that the normal behaviour of a battery coming from a smartphone? .-. Mine's like.. 20 minutes on 100% before starting going down, and it doesn't affect my overall battery life at all..
!!!!

I have observed all of that.
Everything is fine, as the display uses the battery predominantly.
My guess is that is a sign for use to change the battery.
And also i see spikes in chart instead of going down the charge goes up and down.
Sent from my LT18i using xda app-developers app
how old is the battery?
how old is the battery ?if the spike goes up that means it is connected to USB and the phone is charging .attached is my battery usage 7 % in 11 hours the slope is continuously going down as it's been unplugged and running on battery only ,phone and battery are a year and half old
The "spikes" you refer to are because your battery isnt well calibrated...
You can charge it fully, use it and when its around 5% charge it again to full. And if you delete the battery stats your battery must sette down over some day or two.
But for a better response you need to upload a picture of your battery stats.
My battery sometimes stays in 100% some minutes, some other times is goes down to 99 very quicky, but its normal for me cause it usually lengths for two days + with normal use

Yes i totally agree the oly time the graph should go up is when its plugged in and not wen unplugged.
But i sometimes see the spikes when unplugged.
Nevertheless it has not degraded the performance.
