I'm running JB on a rooted but otherwise stock GS3 phone and for some reason it auto answers after the second or third ring. Doesn't matter if the phone is in my pocket or just sitting on my desk. I've dug through all the settings and cannot find any indication of being able to turn this "feature" off. Help please.....It wasn't doing this on ICS, it just started after the JB update.

Well, that got me closer then I was. I found the setting in that menu (Can't believe I didn't go there before) but the strange thing is the check box to "auto-answer" was unchecked. So I checked it then called my phone from my landline and it once again auto-answered as you would expect with the check box checked. I then un-checked the box and tried it once again and it now seems to be working properly.
Thanks for the assistance!

When making a phone call if I move the phone away and when the sensor cuts the phone light back on, it reverts back to the Today Screen. I have to press the call button to get back to the call screen.
Not sure why this is happening.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Anyone has a solutions to this?
well there is a setting called timeout today, but that probably isn't it.
All I can think of is, try do a hard reset after you backup everything.
never happened on mine guys!
same issue here
and I don't remember if it behaved this way out-of-the-box when I tested it before purchase, so it must have been something we've changed
Hmm, I remember it will go back to the phone instead of today screen. Well, I have open a support case with HTC...hope they will reply soon.
Now this is weird.
My TP2 (WWE/Asia) came configured with region set to English (Australia) out of the box. It switched to a different region early on when I installed CE-Star to add additional language inputs. Today, I switched back the region back to English (Australia) and rebooted and the problem disappeared!
There must be something in the background that detect when the screen is back on that switches the TF3D to switch back to the home screen.

Confirmed!!! It fixed mine problem too. I switch to different region, reset and the switch back to my region. Do a test call, guess what?? it work now ...no more going back to the Today Screen.
It must be bug on the software or must be some other tweaks or third party tools that we might have install causing it :> Mystery!!!
Good Excellent finding.

Here is what I get from HTC support regarding this issue...
"Based on information available to the HTC Technical Support Center, your device is functioning normally. Reversion of the display to the Today screen provides you with quicker access to the notepad or other tools that you may need during the call. Pressing the call button returns you to the call screen. There is no provision or setting to return the device directly to the call screen."
What do you think?
Ok, I have do another test again.. when i install any cabs and then try to do a test call again.. now it break again, it go back to the today screen. and then I do the region change again and restart and back again.
Do another test call again.. now it does not go back to Today screen.
I guess it must be something to do when we install a cab that causing it.
Not sure about other users :>
The same problem appear with me too, I'm in Egypt and have the middle east version
any help please
You can disable it turn off the screen during a call in advanced config
just go to light sensor - light sensor polling, and disable that
I thinks this is what your talking about anyway
I found the solution.
Just install S2U2!!
Very nice app and keeps the today screen from over riding the caller screen.
The phone is supoosed to keep the caller screen active during a call.

What is the red frame around the screen when using any applications it sometimes pops up?
I tried googling this and for an ICS manual but I can't find one, the box had very little in it
Thanks
that should only been seen in the SDK and not on the final device.
are you on the galaxy nexus?
yes I picked it up on the launch day, can I turn it off?
Can you provide a screenshot?

U probably got a developer version. Report to xda mods. Their will be hundreds of devs. Ready to buy this developer version of GN.
I'll type it, quicker than trying to find a free screengrabber that works on an unrooted galaxy nexus
Model number
Galaxy Nexus
Android Version
4.0.1
Baseband Version
I9250XXKK1
Kernel Version
3.0.1-ge2433f2
[email protected]#1
Build Number
ITL41D
Power + vol down is native screenshot FYI
But yeah, that's the retail software at least.
Have you been playing around in the developer settings menu?
Theres all sorts of options in there that do funky things. Go in there and see if there's anything ticked that shouldn't be.
Thanks for that,
Looks like it must have been 'Strict Mode' I've disabled it so hopefully it won't happen again.
I didn't enable this unless I did it accidentally.
Its something like flash screen when apps do long operation. Under development part in settings.
Not sure why this would have set to on from new though. Weird..
Just got my nexus and same thing. Thankfully google found this thread it was driving me mad.
Should developer tools be there at all?
Discovered my phone is also network unlocked despite coming free from ny carrier. Possibly could it be i also recieved a developer handset?
4.0.1 has quite a few bugs left to address too. But otherwise nice phone indeed.
From memory this is a way of displaying misbehaving applications for developers.
It's possible you've accidentally enabled it.

Red frame for ICS
Hi
Do i need to restart the OS after unchecking the strict mode options?
I still got the red frame after unchecking the option.

OK. Thought I make a new thread so the access to this findings is quick
Got really p. o. with the waiting for sense when I pause a game. so I fiddled in the settings.
in the development section
Don't keep activities
It is unticked by default. Tick it ( I went on recent apps to make sure it would be saved) and untick it again.
Made my laggy sense go away and the fun has really started for me now.
After a total power off it is still working fine.
So that's my finding of my todays birthday. Hope this helps some of you with this monsterphone ... I'm off for partying with my wife and kids now
Edit2:
Backup your device as soon as possible
When you update your os or change your rom you usually get a smoother experience with it after a factory reset.
My device setup:
turn off fast reboot
disable all stupid sounds and vibrations
disable all the developer settings except for the usb-debugging unless you are a developer (make sure you tick and untick the above mentioned "Don't keep activities")
disable 3 finger gesture
and for a new device or a new rom (update etc.):
Several reboot
are always good lol
btw:
many admin and modding tools interfere with each other and can cut down device performance,
so choose wisely...
Happy Birthday by the way Get smashed!

I noticed a very brief pause while it seemed to reload apps but in the same position (like a specific area of a menu) and it really bugged me considering the hardware. I just gave what you suggested a try and it seems (key word there being seems) to have stopped this. I turned the setting on, went home and oh man that was painfully slow so then I turned it back off. It's almost as if the setting was half way between the two settings, maybe a hybrid setting. I'll keep an eye on this though in case it was just a placebo effect.
@3x13 good tip.
I actually just tried out the feature to see how the phone performed with it on, and thus found the solution myself...by random chance, but it makes a big diff.
Have updated the frontpost
Done the following except that I enabled usb debugging but the "sometimes" unresponsive touch screen still occurs

If you have updated you unfortunately should do a factory reset. Do a backup through adb first and play your applications back after.

Thanks for the tips bro
So if i get this correctly i have to tick "don't keep activities" go back to the home screen and then go back to "don't keep activities" and re-check it?
I think this is the correct way of doing it because if u keep it ticked then Sense always re-loads when u go on the home screen right?
Thanks again
Everytime I check 'don't keep activities' when pressing the home button it takes ages to load the home screen.
I have also got ticked no background processes, what does that actually do? Thought it would of been similar to don't keep activities

Correct, you tick it and then untick it. Not spectacular to do but the effects are brilliant.

So untick it again and then you are done. Background processes is another thing I wouldn't bother with.

Hey, it looks like you've already started a thread about this in the generic sgs3 forum. Let's answer some questions:
What network is your s3 on?
Is your phone on the stock samsung ICS or have you flashed something else?
Have you tried plugging your phone into the samsung Kies software to get an update?
Let's start there. The more information you can provide the better.
Ian
Phone > Menu > Call settings > Accessory settings for call
Make sure Automatic answering is turned off.

Ive tried turning off different settings. Im aware of ALL settings in this phone and have still not been able to remedy this...
Latest update....
Did the phone ever answer properly?
Sounds like automatic answering is on (even though you've confirmed it isn't) , or you have some kind of app that is interfering with the answer in process. As much as it's a pain, I'd backup important data (contacts, sms message history, bookmarks, game saves, pictures etc) and do a full factory reset:
Go to Settings
Privacy
Factory Data Reset
Reset Phone
Erase Everything
It would bring your phone back to day 1 and possibly correct a software glitch. I'm not confident that it would work but I would try it to be sure.
I cant remember if it ever did...
Im gonna wait till after the JB update to see if that changes anything. I turned off "answer with home button" and it didnt do it last call so maybe that worked?
I have no idea.
Factory reset is prolly the best option though
I subscribed to your thread because my wife's AT&T S3 does the exact same thing. Very frustrating because mine does not do it. Might have to try the factory reset as well.
yeah, its pissing me off.
It seems to only happen when i dont want to answer that persons call!

did that yesterday and it seems to be working thus far..
thx
It would be funny if the ringtone was being picked up and triggering the voice cmd..... kinda pathetic
Reminds me of my friend, who had sensor enabled and big paws. When he was dialing one of his fingers would come close to sensor, and screen would go black. He had SGS3 from Sprint. I disabled screen off - he was the happiest man ever!
I never would have thought of the voice command answer setting. Never used the feature myself. You'd think it would have some kind of noise canceling feature to prevent that from happening, or at least a prompt telling you that ring tones may interfere. Funny stuff.
Well at least if it's solved you don't have to wipe

Howdy all,
My phone has just started a vibration when a call is ended, and I can find nothing that has made any change that is causing this to happen. I cannot find where or what setting is making the dang thing vibrate when a call is ended! It's getting on my nerves,,,,
I'm using the stock jeley bean with the native dialer and have tried all I can think of!
If someone knows if this is supposed to happen, or how I can stop it, please tell me!
It never did this for as long as I can remember, but I don't know what the heck has happened, and I cannot make that vibration stop.
Many thanks!
Solved via factory restore. over kill for a small problem, but had no alternative. Saddddd!
