after a conversation with tmobile uk today, it seems they have delayed the roll out of their decrease of data fair usage policy until march 1st 2011. i can only assume this sudden discision was made after i ponted out to a member of their retentions team that their contract states the have to provide reasonable written notice of change of service (so far as i know nobody has recieved any). the fair usage for their android handsets are still advertised with a 3gb fair usage limit. this can be found on their website at www.t-mobile.co.uk/services/uk/fairuse/?WT.mc_id=fup they had indended to make these changes on the first of feb but now intend to drop all customers to a 500mb limit existing and new on the 1st of march 2011. (apparently so they have time to send out written notice)
To my mind this also falls under Bait-and-switch, in which a retailer advertises specific prices and or services lures customers in by advertising products and services and then reveals this is no longer available.
If anybody has any legal knowledge as to where customers stand with this please post details on how we can fight them legally to prevent this outright disgraceful service.
I have the names and details of who i spoke to. Also tmobile anything i write here are obviously my own personal views drawn from my personal experiences i am simply enquiring as to whether or not your actions are legal and am no way inferring anything of slanderous nature. (Just incase your legal bods decide to have a gonat me peronally).
It's disgraceful behaviour really, but being part of Orange it's to be expected. If you google about it or search on twitter using #tmobileukfail, there are tons of posts about it and what to do.
The best thing you can do is send a letter of complaint to all relevant bodies such as Ofcom, TSC, etc. Which? Mobile said they had been in contact with Ofcom and that they were due to release a statement about the change today.
To be honest I don't hold out much hope that anything will change, the worst that will happen is they'll lose customers, but then again I'm pretty sure every other network in the UK apart from 3 has a 500MB fair usage policy (without paying extra anyway).
These companies shouldn't really be selling such phones if their infrastructure can't handle it. Not that they care.

I was starting to worry when I started reading this, the only reason I went with t-mobile was the amount of data.
Or you can try giffgaff if you don't mind to prepay.

its quiet simlar to when vodefone went from including picture messages as part of there Text bundles to not. i complained and got £50 credit to cover my picture messages for remander of my contract. suggest when/if it comes in you kick off about it, take them for all they can. if anything try get out of your contract, ebay the phone then take new contact out
good luck
Orange did this around 2 years ago. They sent an SMS warning about an increase in the cost of out of bundle minutes from 5p per minute to around 20p per minute.
Even though I NEVER went over my bundled minutes I called and complained... they offered extra minutes to avoid me going over, but I stood my ground and used my right to cancel...
The result was that I ended my 18 month contract early (after only 3 months of having it ) AND I also got to keep the phone too. It was a Samsung Omnia 16Gb which I sold on eBay before going to Vodafone for a HTC Hero
The moral of the story... push for whatever you can get
So for those who upgraded to the Nitro HD and had to sacrifice their unlimited plans, have you guys tried this little loophole? It was brought up in the Atrix forum and it seems many people have tried it and succeeded. I'd love to try it but nobody around me has an Iphone 2G so I can't do it yet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008698
Btw, if it works for you, please thank the appropriate people, and I mean the original poster on the link above. I am merely bringing this here so people who didn't know about it can give it a try. This is not my work in any ways.
EDIT/NOTE! To all newcomers/readers of this thread, please be informed that this loophole is no longer available! The very loophole that has been used for years by many has been permanently patched by AT&T as of December 2011. As such, nobody, and I mean NOBODY, can provide their services to upgrade your data plan to Unlimited anymore. Please avoid reaching to ebay sellers who used to provide such services, for example, lordofthereef, since they can no longer help you. Your only real option right now is to plea your case to AT&T in hopes they will somehow provide you with unlimited. Thank you for your interest with this thread.
I don't think that's going to work for an LTE area. I still have Unlimited Data with my Nitro, but I don't have LTE over here.
It works. I know because I did it. Actually I didn't DO it myself. I paid a guy on ebay to do it. I have a friend who also paid him and got it done. Last summer I was tethering with my iphone before I knew I wasn't "allowed" to and they cancelled my Unlimited plan. Since I couldn't get ahold of an iphone 2G I paid the guy on ebay. His seller name is lordofthereef. Don't use anyone but him (I've heard people have problems with the other sellers).
I don't know why anyone would lose their Unlimited plan switching to the Nitro. Whatever AT&T rep told you that you couldn't keep Unlimited LIED to you.

Allstar, can u describe wat needs to be done with this seller in order to get the unlimited to work? And how much did u have to pay him? I searched for him on ebay, found him but he has no postings that show him offering to get unlimited for you. If he doesn't charge an exorbitant amount of money to do it, I am willing to pay him for it.
Edit: Nevermind Allstar, found it through his old feedbacks...It seems he is saying it is currently unavailable though hmm.

Oh that sucks. I wonder if AT&T killed it or he is too busy. He's in school and was being hounded by idiots to do that for them (people from forums trying to go around ebay). I paid him $40, but I saw his price go down to $35. Maybe message him and see if he knows of someone else trustworthy that can do it.
Fudge!! He said the AT&T unlimited data plan that he is doing is down for good! I don't know if it's just with him or AT&T finally got rid/patched the loophole, but this is looking grim
Oh man. I guess it was just a matter of time before AT&T caught on. If you can get ahold of an iphone 2G for little or no cost I would still try it.

I don't think it's possible anymore, without actually escalating the issue to their claims team. This guy confirmed it over at the atrix forum:
ajdrausal said:
The loop hole no longer exists, I called 611 (customer service) and the rep had to do an escallation, they ended up giving my friend the 30$ a month unlimited but it wasnt something they could do from the get go. What you can do to get it is call them up and if u never had a smart phone before but had a regular messaging phone is.
add unlimited data
wait a billing cycle
aquire iPhone 2G
try to activate it
call 611 and complain that u had unlimited and since iPhone 2g is older they should allow it, have them send a email to the team that takes care of feature and have them add the unlimited 30$ plan (since the 20$ doesnt exist)
That is basically what happened with my friend, but he had unlimited on his messaging phone for a year.

The seller also said that the loophole is what he used and is now no longer functioning.
Fudge! I should have moved faster or did it back when I was on the atrix!
Not sure why you're having to jump through hoops. The guy just offered to keep the unlimited plan that I've had the whole time.
If you have the Unlimited at the time of upgrading you can keep it. Some have been told you can't, but that is a lie. I've heard several reason people are given, but they are all false. This trick is for those that either never had unlimited or lost it at some point. Unfortunately it looks like it's a closed loophole.

Umm thats not the case. Switching to the LTE plans is still unlimated if your grandfathered in. As I did not have a problem doing so. I got the unliamted plan on a brand new line 3 months ago. bought a good shape iPhone 2g localy. PAIN to activate cause iTunes. Then after that sold it and made 10 dollar profit
I never lost my unlimited due to an upgrade. I let go of it back when I was on a BB Curve and did not need data plan on the phone. Didn't realize they were gonna cancel unlimited from their roster of data plans, so now i'm stuck with a 2GB (well 3GB with their new data plan). That's why I'm dying to get back my unlimited.
I think the only way to get it now is to know someone on the inside with the ability to manipulate the plan features.

I am posting here because I am getting quite a few people asking about unlimited data through eBay. Unfortunately this has been shut down completely by AT&T (read neither myself or any other private party can do this any longer). I am posting here in hopes that people read this and stop trying to contact me for this over eBay message. I have been getting half a dozen or more requests weekly, and will likely just start not responding sepparately to each and everyone.
To those I have helped, enjoy!
To those I could not, so sorry.

Lordofthereef, Thank you for stopping by and informing everyone that this loophole is no longer available. It is very unfortunate for us who are limited to a few GB of data but I guess there is nothing we can do anymore at this point. It is now too late. I will update my initial post to inform readers that this is no longer available and to please avoid any attempts to reach out to you in hopes of getting the unlimited data. Thanks again and You've done a great service to those who have received your help

Just got off the phone with Sprint and successfully got a $100 credit posted on my account to help ease the pain of the $300 price tag!
I told her a friend also was interested in this promotion.
She said just call Sprint and ask for "Account Services"
Then ask about the customer loyalty credit. I have been a customer for 6 years which qualified me for $100 credit which posted to my account immediately!
My total due is now (-$100)
She said the amount of credit depends on how long you have been a customer.
Credit ranges from $25-$100.
It does not even require an upgrade.
I cant guarantee anything and I am still not sure how I pulled it off, but I think it is worth a shot to try yourself.
I have 2 lines and both are eligible for an upgrade, although she said the eligibility had nothing to do with the credit.
Now my wallet will definitely feel better when I pick up my GN2 today!!
Even if you already picked up your N2, give it a shot.
Phone number for retentions: 888-273-9460
Discounts are for the account, and not for a phone upgrade so this can be done by any Sprint customer. Make sure to specify that you are checking to see if you have a credit or discount available for your account.
Discounts so far:
$100 one time
$25 one time
$25 for four months
$40 for four months
$45 for four months
Hope you guys can benefit from one phone call like I did.
Please post your results if you successfully got a credit using this method.

It is for accounts that are near their term end, they give the money for you to extend it one year. But that will help cover activation and some as I am getting it from Best Buy.

Great, I guess ymmv because I have two lines with upgrade eligibility, and was not forced to have any contract extension.
I try and Sprint CSR shot me down like a duck
Got the $100 credit for adding a year on to my contract that is up in december. I'm upgrading to the note 2 tomorrow, so that's 2 years from tomorrow, nullifying the year add-on from today. Free 100 bucks since I was upgrading either way. Retention department did it. Remember, be nice. You definitely catch more flies with honey.
WOW Thank You for posting this deal. I tried it over the phone with account services a month ago, but they shot me down. I saw this thread and figured I'd give it another try via chat.
I'm on sero premium and was credited $400 for 4 lines! I simply asked for contract renewal credit via chat and they gave me mine, then I went on to ask for one on my parents account, etc. Her name was Holli A.
They gave me $100 credit for each of my two lines and another $100 for each of my parents two lines via chat. I also asked if it was available for my sisters line and oddly enough, it wasn't. They have their own accounts and their contracts end the same time as mine, so I have no idea why my sister wasn't eligible for it. Maybe it's because she's younger lol.
Thank You for posting this deal! Now I have to figure out if I can handle the Note 2 lacking voice & data at the same time.
Been with Sprint since 1999, have an upgrade available for 1 of my lines, and no dice.
It's totally dependent on who you talk to, I think. Some will honestly try to help you, some just want their paycheck and go home.

Worked for me, I had to go through three people until I got the manager, and was very nice about it, and stated that I can get the same thing with Verizon and wanted to know if there was anything Sprint was willing to do to make my decision easy.
I joined Sprint in 2007. I got $25 off the next two months. Better than nothing I guess. :victory:
You can also email them from the website and ask about a Renewal/Retention credit. I have done this in the past. I am too hesitant to do it anymore though. I have 6 lines on a family plan and the max is supposed to be 5. The last thing I want is someone digging through my account and deciding I cant have 6 lines anymore. That would burn me far more than a renewal credit will help.
Yes, technically they are called renewal credits internally and dependant upon when your contract is due to end or when it ended, the more money you are eligible for.
For those who are getting credits split over time, those are agents who are just doing what they can to help you out, which is always great. Regular care agents can do that, though they aren't supposed to. That can also do the renewal credits themselves if your account shows you eligible. The amount is also determined by your "churn" ranking. The less likely you are to leave Sprint, the more you are eligible for.
Going to Account Services isn't a requirement, but if the regular care rep isn't willing to play ball, then by all means ask for them. At a time when things are starting to turn for the better, now more than ever Sprint will do what they can to hold on to as many customers as possible. As by the example that was mentioned earlier, the best time to do it is when you have an upgrade available, but haven't used it yet. At that point, it's literally free money because the upgrade will cancel out the extension you just agreed to.

it's more like making deals/haggling than handouts. you're paying x amount of money for y value of service. trying to increase the ratio of x:y in your favor isn't really asking for handouts.

didnt work through chat for me. will call later and see how it goes
I ordered 2 of the gunmetal grey, as I opened up a new account through the comcast web site which their deal for new verizon account activation's is you get a $150.00 visa prepaid card which you do not need to have comcast service, nor do you have to buy comcast service, you only have to purchase new verizon service through them.
The offer lists you will receive the $150.00 visa prepaid card with in 6 weeks of activating your new verizon account.
They also have a $50.00 offer if you upgrade your verizon account to a new phone.
This is a great deal and with this my new m9 will only cost me $50.00 after receiving my $150.00 visa prepaid card.
The offer is good through a date in June so everyone has plenty of time if the m9's get on back order.
Just thought maybe this deal might help out a few people like it is helping me.
Here is a link for it.

I hit the buy it now on their site and it takes you to the verizon site to purchase its like the old verizon site but it works even lets you pick the first 3 digits of your new number along with your area code they just pick the last 4 digits, this is nice and the regular verizon site never lets you pick your new number they just give you whatever they want unless you call in or go to a corporate store but those ways the phones usually cost you more than on line and you wont get the $150 rebate visa card by calling in to verizon or going to a verizon store.
You can call the number to order on that site for the special or order by hitting buy now. I think the number only comes up on the site if your viewing it on a phone I think on a pc it does not show the phone number just the buy now part I do believe.
I look forward to getting my $150 prepaid visa rebate card.
what dos this have to do with the HTC M 9???
this fourm sould be moved or closed has it has nothing to do with the HTC M 9
Snow I really do not know why you are making such a big deal like do you not have anything better to do than complain about someone posting something that helps others save on getting a new m9 ? I mean like there are a lot of people that that $150 prepaid card would help.
And if we go by your philosophy your account lists your on a moto g so if your on a moto g why are you complaining about a post on the m9 forum when you dont even have one, on that basis maybe your post should be deleted or moved ????
Some of us are here and like to help others then I guess there are some here just to complain and try to put down others ????

I would not put that past verizon they would do that in a heartbeat...

I got a nice surprise in the mail lol. I had opened my new verizon service through the comcast web site because they had a offer for a $150 prepaid visa rebate card well I thought the $150 rebate prepaid visa card was only good for one line, any way I had opened 2 lines of service, one for myself and one for my girlfriend and they sent me a prepaid visa card for $300 I was only expecting $150 lol that was a welcomed sight lol.
So apparently the offer is not limit one rebate, lol.
Also offer listed you would receive the card with in 6 weeks of activating your device, and I activated mine on 4-10-15 so just over 3 weeks and its here so they are pretty quick getting them out and not waiting until the last minute to send them out.
So its a good deal by far and you can also trade in an old phone with the verizon device recyle program which I did also on both lines so I have a $200 credit coming from verizon sending in an evo 3d and a rezound both I have had laying around in a drawer just wasting away lol.
