My USB port is "challenged". I am getting a replacement phone from Tmobile. But I want to back up my phone data without using the USB cable.
Caveats:
- Phone is Stock ROM - Unrooted
- Can not root my phone now (as I would need computer to do ODIN)
Options:
- Is there any software that will be able to communicate via wi-fi (intranet) so I can backup my files ?
- Any app that can backup apps data without having to root the phone ?
There are plenty of WiFi sharing programs but you should use the kies that came with the phone it does wireless transfer if not search the market for WiFi transfer
Sent from my SgS2 beast
Thank you.
I copied everything from internal SD and transfer to external SD. Used ES explorer. Backed up my apps (apks). Individually backed up settings of apps where ever available (notes, K9, call log, sms's, whats app, etc)
Ofcourse, I lost my some of settings in that process (mostly games etc) but atleast, it was not as nearly heart breaking as it could have been.
Its unfortunate that there are not good ways to completely connect to PC's and take control. I remember LG Optimus X used to have on screen controls where you can use your computer to control your phone wirelessly.

I am using Samsung Kies for a short period of time and found it works with my Note 2 LTE but very slow in recognising my phone. It takes a couple of minutes to complete and I need to unlock my phone a couple of times in the process of recognition. Is it normal? I just updated to Samsung Kies 2.0.0.12123_7 for Mac and no obvious improvement.
Before I install Kies, I installed Android File Transfer for files transfer with Android phone. It works correctly. However, once I installed Samsung Kies, every time I connect my phone using usb port, the Android File Transfer pops up but says cannot find the device. I am unsure if it affects Samsung Kies. Is there any way to transfer the files from and to the phone? I found it is the fastest way to do file transfer amongst others such as Dropbox, bluetooth etc. Thanks!
kies - ahahaha.
what data you wanna backup?
whole rom - use nandroid backup (makes a ghost like nortan ghost)
apps - use titanium backup
I've read through quite a few threads (but forgive me I didn't go through all 976), and searched for some answers on google, so I've done my research as best I could. Please understand that if this question's already been asked and answered, I just didn't know the proper keywords to find it.
so here's my issue. Got a note 2 dec. 12 loved it and eventually wanted to root it, but by the time that happened, my USB port started malfunctioning. to make a long story short, the port charges if i mess with the microUSB side a lot, and even then one small nudge and it loses connection. PC USB connection is completely out of the question. I've tested it on 4 computers with 15 different USB ports (both on machines that had USB drivers/other Samsung software installed, and machines that were Samsung-free) and the best I can get is an alternating on-off connection; you'll see the lightning bolt flash across the battery, then not, then on... etc etc.
Basically here's what I want to do:
I want to use ABD backup to completely image my phone: I have the new one, so I would like to simply copy it over to the new one and avoid setting all the countless system/UI settings.
If this is not possible, I want to use Rerware's MyBackup to backup whatever I can.... problem is, I've tried this and getting the backup files off the device is tricky. direct USB connection is not possible. I tried via Wifi file transfer and somehow the ZIP file (1.85GB) got corrupted, and when I used zip repair tool from recovery toolbox (nifty utility) it found nothing in the zip file after an hour-plus scan. When I tried copying it to the external card using samsung's stock explorer app, it only copied over 255MB and nothing else.
If all this is not possible, I would like to know what options or solutions someone could (please) offer as to how to get some data (at least pictures) off my device. When I get it back from amazon wireless, I'm going to try to sync them all retroactively to dropbox or picasa or something, but I want to know if there's something else I haven't (more than likely) thought of.
Also, I would also like to know if there's an option for root without USB. the problem is that in order to do ADB backup (my #1 hope) I need to be rooted. I saw a CFAuto root that says it works through ODIN download mode, but then I found another thread that said you have to have your phone hooked up via USB in order for that to work.
I've seen there're ADB via wifi apps on the market (if there's a root without USB possibility) and was wondering if these could be used somehow?
Lastly, this phone is getting returned to amazon wireless, so really, I want no evidence of any tinkering that voids warranties. If this is not possible, I just want my damn data.
To recap, since that seemed like a rant:
is there a way to image my entire phone to transfer to my new one? if not....
is there a way to backup most (if not all) settings etc to restore to new phone?
any other creative ideas on how to get data off the old device?
sorry if this seems frivolous, I'm just sick of this crap. I got a pretty advanced smartphone and in less than a month it somehow corrupted 80+ pictures, lost USB data connectivity, and now certain STOCK apps are malfunctioning. any help or advice would be appreciated.
I will continue researching.
Hi, Is there a easy way via an app, wi-fi transfer, usb device to device, to copy the apps and settings/passwords from a Non-rooted Verizon S5 phone to a non-rooted Note 10.1 (2014) tablet? Or do I have to manually download each app from the play store to the tablet? My phone apps should all be stored on the sdcard. I don't know where password data & etc is stored. Basically I want the tablet set up the same as my phone with same apps.
Thanks if anyone can help. I searched for any threads on this & didn't find anything, unless I didn't make the right search.
Helium
ClockworkMod makes a cool non-root backup solution called Helium. It has 2 components: A PC app and a local app you can get through the Play Store. There are some apps that will come back as disallowed for backup, but the majority of them will allow you to transfer your app data. I used it successfully when I upgraded my wife's tablet and my phone. It's also worth spending the 5 bucks to get the premium version as it will allow you to backup and restore the apps and data to your Google Drive (cloud) as well.
The only downside I have found to this app, other than the fact that some apps are not able to backup (i.e. Chase Mobile) is that you have to use the PC app to enable backups every time you restart your phone/tablet. When you initially download it, you have to connect your phone/tablet to your PC and enable the Helium backup. As long as you don't restart your phone/tablet, you can backup as much as you want on that particular session. If you have to restart either device for some reason, you'll have to re-authorize Helium to make backups. It can be annoying, but it's a small price to pay to transfer your existing data and apps.
PM me for links, as I haven't made enough posts to be able to include them here.
Hope that helps!

So my friend, having made a move to the iPhone 6+, asked me to help her move pictures, etc. from her old phone to her new phone. Unfortunately, I don't know what went wrong and her phone (t989) won't connect to the computer. The notification that it's in USB mode doesn't show, the sd cards (internal and external) aren't being read / even visible on the computer, and it's a stupid phone that I personally want to destroy.
Caveats:
She is on Gingerbread still having never updated her phone. All her pictures are on her internal SD card too. Apps are of course restricted by her OS (but it wouldn't be that hard to find old apps, just time consuming). Google Play Store crashes frequently while downloading apps. She isn't rooted (obviously, I don't blame her since she isn't interested in all that, and the only root method seems to be to use ODIN, but that would wipe her internal clean which I don't want to do.
What I've done:
I've done a hard reset on the phone (shut down, remove battery, insert battery, turn on). Not sure if the seconds matter, but it was a quick take out, put in. Maybe a few seconds, definitely not 30 more. But when the phone turned on, her time went back to 1970 or something.
I've tried to copy the DCIM of the internal onto the external, but she has like 5k pictures and using My Files, it quits the transfer randomly without an indication where it quit or why.
AirDroid, but that gave me invalid package. Could have installed manually, but didn't have that much time and didn't think about it.
Bluetooth on the mac doesn't stay connected to the phone.
My goal:
Figure out how to connect to the computer preferably over USB. I still need to transfer her whatsapp messages too but without it showing up on the computer, I'm stuck. I've downloaded Samsung drivers, I have Samsung Kies installed. I just don't know what is wrong with it.
Any ideas? I've done all this on my laptop, but I told her to come over some day to use my desktop and see if it works on there (I was using a Windows Bootcamp partition on my macbook pro). I tried to connect the phone to OSX as well, but I didn't install Kies, which might be a reason... but the USB connected notification just doesn't want to come.
Hi, i have a non-root samsung galaxy tab 8.4 which sometimes loses data on its own (especially the photos that are took lately) and it wasnt a problem for me, since this time! it deleted the whole folder of my selfie app -B612- which contained all my personal pics now Ive been looking for recovery softwares on computer and Ive found many but none of them work without Root or USB Mass Storage which my tablet doesnt have this option, so i needed to root to get a enabler...
Is there any safe way to root without bricking my tablet?
OR any way to convert portable device into removable?
