Wanted: [Port] MyScript Notes - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Are there any intrepid Android coders out there that would like to take a stab at creating an APK file from the app found on this page?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597783
I'd be happy to see it in a signed APK, rather than a flashable ZIP. I have not rooted my GNoteII yet, and will not do so until I can reliably clear the flash counter after returning to stock.

Please port
Very cool

Sorry I didn't see that you not rooted It seems pretty cool. Sorry

I unpacked the APK file, but I'm beyond my depth now. Lots of SMALI files, and from what I can tell with my limited knowledge of the code, this app was customized for HTC devices, or maybe a specific device.
This looks like a really cool app for the S Pen, and if anyone could give me a hand, I'd appreciate it.

I guess you didn't read my post. Extract the .apk on your phone using root explore or similar app. Copy the .apk to system/app set permissions

Not to get in a pissing match, but you did not read mine, either. I don't have root yet, and you cannot save files to those directories manually without root.

No I did the see the first time as you see just not the 2nd
If I helped or you like what I said thank me

OK, I bit the bullet and rooted. I tried several versions of the APK file, but none of them run. The 1.1.24 version will start, but crashes immediately.
After a bit more investigation, I see that the /lib files that are in the flashable zip are already in the /system/lib folder on my phone (same filenames, anyway). I'm thinking that SNotes uses the MyScript libraries as part of its own HWR (even heard rumors that SNotes was created by Visual Objects). I'm fairly certain that messing with those files would wreck SNotes, so I'm kinda stuck.

S Note was created by the MyScript people. Well, not really created, but Samsung does use their HWR technology to decipher the notes in the stock keyboard. S Note is loosely based on MyScript. This is why the libs are already in the /system folder.

[Q] theming swype?

Aight, been looking around the boards and well all i can find is themes for WVGA rather then HVGA. So can anyone point me in the right direction to creating some and is it possible to just resize the wvga to the hvga size? Using 7-zip and a paint shop or similar photo editor?
IF so does the apk have to be resigned? Read a mixture of threads saying yes and saying no..
Any help or links would be nice.
definitely resign the apk and as far as resizing that should work long as you place the new image inside the old one meant for the slide. but if your using the system(stock version) of swype then you shouldn't resign because i rmr reading somewhere signing system apps with test keys causes problems
Don't resign the .apk. just stick in ur rom update and reflash...
You don't wanna resize images man its not quite as easy as it sounds.
If you need help with theming Ill help you out, just lemme know what you need help with. Swype is, imo, one of the easiest .apks to theme...just edit the one that's already the correct resolution...
Oh btw if you reflash a full rom you may hafta wipe...I can't guarantee one way or the other but sometimes stuff gets messed up. I can help you make an update just for your swype so you can just flash that without needing to wipe....

Ty both for the help I am so eager to learn but damn I keep failing.
Here's what I tried at first I resized all the pngs from the wvga theme and copied to hvga one that I found.
Tried signing and not signing also tried pushing and tried installing with astro. Tried putting the apk directly in rom without signing with 7 zip all with the same result swype failing.
I used apk tools and apk manager same result
Any pointers on what I may be doing wrong?

I'm with you on this one. I found a sweet theme that would go with the look I'm trying to get on my phone, but its wvga and metamorph will only skin the glow and not the actual keys or anything. Here's a screen of what I want.

And here is where I found the morph http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-themes/62702-metamorph-themes-swype.html
I have another one that's similar but I can't remember where I found it.
I want to be able to change to black keys with green letters and green tracer.
I am so lost, lol.
Edit: Currently using swype 2.4

Japanese arc camera sound

Now that we've got root, is there any way to get rid of the loud, godawful camera noise? It seems to be part of the stock ui since selecting silent in vignette doesn't work, etc.
Sent from my SO-01C using XDA App
slide out the left menu in stock camera app.. option in there to change shutter sound.. 3 sound options and off..
Nope, there's no off option in the stock app, and silent options in apps like vignette don't work for Japanese market phones. It seems to be forced at the rom level. Anyone rooted on a Japanese arc that can relay whether custom roms get rid of the shutter sound?

Could have to do with different laws.
In some countries it's forbidden to take 'silent' pictures.

exactly it's forbidden to take pictures without a sound.
try this:
Go to "/system/media/audio/ui" there are folders like sound1, sound2 and sound3. go in the folders and remove the "camera_click.ogg"
of that didn't work go to "/system/media/audio/camera/sound*/ and remove "shutter.ogg"
Hope this works, good luck

Or in case it crashes, rename a silent .ogg file and replace, so it will still play just it will be silent. might also be a idea.
Will get rooted and give this a shot. Results to follow, thanks!

Hiya, back with an update, just rooted and tried this with an on-phone explorer, and it says it doesn't have privileges to modify the sound file. Do I need a better file explorer or try this from the ox when I get home?
Thanks for the help !

so did you delete the sound file or replace it with a silent one? Also what program did you use to delete or replace the file?
Don't you guys worry about probably breaking the laws of your country?
I've done it. First, I rooted the S0-01C, then got all the ADB drivers and such working on my PC. Remounted the /system in rewriteable mode using this guide here, http://karuppuswamy.com/wordpress/2...stem-partition-in-read-write-mode-in-android/
then went to the /system/media/audio/ui directory, and replaced camera_click.ogg with an empty ogg (opened notepad, saved as camera_click.ogg) using root explorer. Vignette is now completely silent.
Thanks for all the help!
Use Root Explorer
Rename /system/media/audio/camera/sound3 to /system/media/audio/camera/soundx (or anything you like)
Rename /system/media/audio/camera/sound0 to /system/media/audio/camera/sound3
Then select sound3 as the shutter sound in camera.
This is for HK rooted model LT15i 3.0.A.2.181
proliant's method is work on my Arc
thx
and for unrooted sony phone?
You have to live with the sound then unless you can turn it off in the camera menu.

Repeatedly saying '+1' wont get this working guys
We need to get hold of the gallery.apk and see how much it relies on the GS3 framework. It may be able to run as a standalone .apk but I doubt it. It'll probably need porting by someone who knows much more about it than I do

I can see from the S3 forum that 1 custom ROM is available. I'll download it now and try and extract the Gallaxy apk and see if it works with a straight port.

OK. Extracted the gallery apk and tried to install on the HOX and it fails. Have also tried to push to system/app and fix permissions, but that also doesn't work.

Are you sure its from the One X? Maybe the messaging apk can be pulled. I'm trying to find these images myself.
Doubt that the HTC MMS app would work without the sense framework. Found some themes for the older Galaxy Nexus touchwiz MMS and one looks nearly identical to this one but it doesn't work. I'm all for theming the touchwiz MMS as I love the lock screen notifications and am not a fan of any of the aftermarket MMS apps.
Here's Something I've been tinkering around with an am currently using. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the blue from the HTC theme better aligned on the left side so if anyone can assist I'd greatly appreciate it. Anyway, these are all in a modified SecMms.apk which I'll upload if anyone's interested. I also added that white background as a choice.
P.S. Please be aware that this is a rough hack so maybe someone could help me clean up the file a little. I'm just an intermediate modder who just like to see modest theme options.
Extra Note: I had to rar the file in order to upload it due to the forum size limits for uploads. Just extract the apk.
Upload your SecMms.apk and I'll decode it and see if I can help correct the alignment.

Done.
Okay, here's what I'm thinking. You have a message_skin_bubble.xml and message_bubble_activity.xml under res/layout/. I'm not real familiar with Android system layout, but I would think one of these two, or both would control text layout in the bubble. There's a line in message_bubble_activity: "gallery_receive_vertical" android: paddingLeft="10.0dip"", try changing 10.0dip to... say, 12.0? And if that isn't it, try in message_skin_bubble, change "android:layout_marginLeft="9.0dip" />" to say 11.0dip?
I'm going on a limb from just glancing at it and not really sure if that's the controlling xmls. I'm having trouble rebuilding the apk or I'd test it myself. I'll see what I can do when I get home.
Sounds good. Although, so far, I only changed the images by opening the .apk. I didn't decompile or recompile. I simply took images from other devices that I've owned or found on xda and swapped and renamed image files. They worked on all of them except for the blue htc bubble in the first image.

Well thinking more about it, if my suggestion did skew the text, which it may or may not, it will also skew the text in every bubble which we don't want... perhaps I can edit the original blue bubble image to allow the text to center.
That would be great. I tried doing it in Photoshop. I no PS expert but I'm ok so maybe there is something I'm missing. The png file would look fine and would save ok but the image would become stretched in the actual mms app.
is there anyway to add emoji support to it?

[Q] So... Anything new on Smart Updates?

Still gotta DL the WHOLE app (eg. a 1GB game update) instead of just the new/replaced files that Google announced will be launched with the JB release.
Smart Update: http://www.theverge.com/2012/8/17/3248874/google-play-store-smart-updates-enabled
Anyone know what going on with that?
I don't know the technical details of the technology, but from what I read about it I assume it only works for changes in the APK. Games often contain a lot of graphic data, which probably renders this technique kinda useless
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I'm pretty sure they are already enabled but they still show as if you are downloading the entire file. So there is no way to know when they are put to use and how big the apk diff files are.
Busybox free uses it..and facebook 1.9.9 update too...
With the last updates it was finished within seconds..the download....
Interesting. So how does Google select which apps start using it? Or is it some kinda automated update adding apps to its list for Smart Update support?
Noo the devs of the apps must build it in aka support it

I'm pretty sure that isn't the case. Google automatically enables smart app updates for all (I presume) apps. This was said at the I/O conference that developers didn't need to do anything and personally I haven't seen any new API calls nor manifest lines that I need to add.

FWIW, I updated Dead Trigger the other day and it only downloaded around 500k of updated data... so, yea, it does work for games as well.
Again, it depends on the APK and the changes involved.
Something I noticed the other day: the progress bar on the Play Store was slow, and would cut off somewhere in the middle just before updating. If you want to see the real update progress, look in the notification shade.

Yes, I have noticed this also recently. So I guess it was a slow rollout.
I have encountered several updates that use this. I remember Google saying that it is something that will happen automatically and not something that will require any changes on the part of the developers
