[Q] Wifi tethering problem on gt-n7100 - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello... i have a question regarding wifi hotspot/tethering with samsung note2 gt-n7100..i try to set up my phone as a wifi hotspot..the other device can detect the wifi and connect but the problem is the device can't use it for internet browsing..it just connected to my device but when try to browse to google it stuck. could anyone clarify the exact method to do this trick? or can u suggest any third party app that are fully working with note2 for this purpose? i tried with wifi tether for root user but no luck.. my device is rooted with cfroot and running latest alj3 stock rom...tq

Same here with Note I
It is connected, but no Internet access, even tough the internet is working inside of Note.
This happens mostly, but sometimes it works. There is no firewall,no different settings on receiving side.
Actually, right now it is working... but how long?

same problem. please help

Check your Note's APN settings for any proxies. A proxy can cause that.

anyone figured out free tethering on tmobile s3? (tethering for root just doesnt work

I've tried lots of threads that said the only way to get free tethering on the s3 is (tmovile) is by rooting then installing "root users tethering" application.
I followed instructions and used "generic ICS" mode - this worked for my first couple attempts at connecting to tmobile tethering... but now it just doesn't work at all - and only in about 1 in ten time it says it is in tether mode is there ever even a wifi signal to pick up - and when it does pick up most of the time now it wont connect (says internet connection problem on PC)
are there any roms that offer this functionality as standard? or any other foolproof apps?
thanks
I'm rooted on stock and have found no working method.

You must choose the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE) option in profile. It will then work great.

I don't care about Wireless Tethering since it I'm the only one connecting to it through my computer so I just use Easy Tether which even works if you're not rooted.

I use "wifi tether" from the play store and it works fine.

Is there a way to use the native tetherkng option yet? On the S2, it was as easy as freezing TetheringProvisions app. Any luck for the S3?
I use wifi tether for root users under generic ics profile and it works fine for me. I have to restart the phone each time i use it though, not sure why.

Yes, it is USB. I've been using it since I had the Mytouch 3G. I don't see a need in using WiFi tether unless you are sharing it with other people or using a Tablet. If you are using a PC then I don't see why you wouldn't want to use USB tethering since it doesn't use any battery power.
Rooted using wifi tether and works no problems. Sometimes i do need to restart wifi tether to get the signal. I am using galaxy nexus (gsm) as the profile.
Mine works. Here's a the tutorial.

So no one got the native app to work? We must use an aftermarket app?

i believe all the carriers make you pay to use the native wifi tethering.. I use foxfi and it seems to work fine for me. it's on the play store.
TMO gave me free tethering but it would only work with the TMO tethering app (throttled), not with any other app. After I rooted the other apps worked fine and the root tether app is much faster then the TMO app.
Cool. Thanks guys
ClockWorkMod
First, you will need to download the ClockWorkMod tethering app.
Then, you will need to download the driver for your PC. You can download the driver onto your phone open the file on your PC by connecting your phone to the USB. It pretty much walks you through everything to get started. Takes less than ten minutes and voila, you're online. I searched forever to find this and just discovered it. Now all I need is hotspot so I can use this with my Chromebook. Here is the link to download the driver clockworkmod.com/tether/drivers
Just click Samsung drivers and it will download.
It works great. The only thing that I have noticed that may be a problem is that I got kicked off once. I just started using it so I'm not sure if it happens often, but all I had to do to get it back on was turn off the app on my phone, and on my PC then turn it on from my phone and then click start on my PC.
It's only a trial version, but the full version can be purchased directly from the app once the trial runs out for $4.99. Hope this helps! Enjoy!
Samsung galaxy S3 T-mobile Nonrooted
Ok I am new to tethering since I have always used Comcast....
I have the unlimited data plan from Tmo.... Unlimited data plan comes with 500mb of free tether.... soon enough it will run out... I need to make sure my tether works AND make sure if I do these methods they won't find out I'm tethering....
I just wanted to clarify my question...
So how do I go about this....? as of now my phone is not rooted but it will be if need be....
Everything online is telling me to root my phone and use 30934983458 different apps... if anyone is kind enough can someone explain please how this process works (I am not a noob with phones just with tethering)

Just got my GNex and have a question

WIFI in my area is very slow. Is there any way I could connect my GNex to my PC internet? Its much faster and I think there should be an option for accessing internet on my cell phone through the computer.
need a fast reply
it's called reverse tether, google it. i believe there are a few apps on the play store that may enable it.
I found the app but it says that it requires my device to have reverse tethering enabled. How to do that?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...9tLmxpdHRsZWxhbi5SZXZlcnNlVGV0aGVyLlRyaWFsIl0.
doesnt say anything about needing additional support from the phone try this, just need to be rooted
I attached a screenshot since the forum has restrictions for new users posting links to screenshots.
"This app requires that your device supports and allows USB tethering which seems to be removed. Please go to your device Settings and try to manually enable USB Tethering before running the app again"
I got rid of that error but its hanging up on the configuration screen. Do we need to install any drivers for this to work? How do we enable network sharing? Can anyone give me complete tutorial?
You can use virtual wifi router to make a virtual wifi network and connect the phone to it

If your WiFi is slow then either you have a old slow router or your too far away from the router

[Q] sgh t999 wifi issues

Hello everyone,
I have a sgh t999 that receive but not send over WiFi,to explain if using a tethering app the connected device work over 4g but when connecting to a WiFi it seems that its not doing the handshake it said connecting but immediately stop and it gives an error like if the password is incorrect but it ain't,cleared the router, left it open, flashed several times, did every wipe imaginable and modem as well but still doesn't work.
Any help or ideas?
Use the phone by itself without any kind of tethering. See if you can use a browser on the phone. If that works then you will have to diagnose Tether by itself.
I'd Start with setting Wi-fi encryption to open.
Already did, backtrace it to the hardware somehow it got fuzed to the back casing it seems that it overheated and got welded..weird but thanks anyways. I guess my WiFi is done for.

[Q] 4.4.2 once rooted possible to tether on old plan? don't have 2.5gb tether plan

Hello everyone and excuse me for noob question. I got my note 3 few days ago already with 4.4.2. I will try to root using updated files for build uvucnb4. I'm curious if it will be possible to tether if I follow the buying wifi tether router video. I currently don't have the 2.5gb wifi tether option as I'm on a grandfathered plan that doesn't include this feature for my note 3. Do have unlimited Internet though. Haven't done anything yet as I'm still unclear on this. Really want to root just for this feature alone. Want to be able to tether my kids tablet and pc at home. Thanks and sorry I tried searching every where.

Thanks for quick response! Sorry but when you say tether to laptop via USB cable, I have the option to tether either way? Now how would I tether with the USB cable, is there an option for either wifi or USB cable? Sorry for dumb question very dumb when it comes to this. Thanks again
Yes it does work. I have the same grand fathered plan and using native tether on wicked rom. On stock kk you change the apn as listed on this forum. Delete or freeze tethering provision and use a play store widget to activate tether. It will force close settings once or twice when activates but will work on 3rd time.

Awesome thanks mike!! Seems like it's working very well. So for noobs as myself download kitkat build uvucnb4 root files. Flash via odin, download titanium backup, freeze tether provision, download wifi tether router from play store, make new apn as stated on the tutorial, and should work at least for me so far... now just wondering will tmobile be able to find out when I'm using my cup like downloading software to it or updating it or even just surfing the web?? Thanks for the help guys!!
I rooted my note 3 and using the wifi tether router from play store for hotspot. However, that is a paid software, but it's simple to use. got about 20mbps when on LTE.

Free mobile hotspot?

I recently upgraded to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46872497&postcount=2 from stock rom /w root and now the app I was using to get my phone to become a hotspot no longer works. Anyone have any solutions? I've been searching quite abit for the answer and haven't come up with any.

I used that ROM for awhile, I just use the embedded mobile hotspot with no issues. Just go to Settings> More Networks > Tethering and Mobile HotSpot and turn Mobile Hotspot on ( I reinstalled the ROM to be able to give accurate information)

This should have been posted in T-Mobile Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
You can try Foxfi..Work for me...

try installing xposed and the Wanam module.
in system option (in Wanam) turn off tethering provisioning.
reboot and use the stock tethering option.
if you are on windows try changing the browsers user agent to an android user string. you don't need to do this if you run Linux.

Have you tried my Sprint Port? Im told hotspot works quite well with it.
