Free mobile hotspot? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I recently upgraded to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46872497&postcount=2 from stock rom /w root and now the app I was using to get my phone to become a hotspot no longer works. Anyone have any solutions? I've been searching quite abit for the answer and haven't come up with any.

I used that ROM for awhile, I just use the embedded mobile hotspot with no issues. Just go to Settings> More Networks > Tethering and Mobile HotSpot and turn Mobile Hotspot on ( I reinstalled the ROM to be able to give accurate information)

You can try Foxfi..Work for me...

try installing xposed and the Wanam module.
in system option (in Wanam) turn off tethering provisioning.
reboot and use the stock tethering option.
if you are on windows try changing the browsers user agent to an android user string. you don't need to do this if you run Linux.

Have you tried my Sprint Port? Im told hotspot works quite well with it.

anyone figured out free tethering on tmobile s3? (tethering for root just doesnt work

I've tried lots of threads that said the only way to get free tethering on the s3 is (tmovile) is by rooting then installing "root users tethering" application.
I followed instructions and used "generic ICS" mode - this worked for my first couple attempts at connecting to tmobile tethering... but now it just doesn't work at all - and only in about 1 in ten time it says it is in tether mode is there ever even a wifi signal to pick up - and when it does pick up most of the time now it wont connect (says internet connection problem on PC)
are there any roms that offer this functionality as standard? or any other foolproof apps?
thanks
I'm rooted on stock and have found no working method.

You must choose the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE) option in profile. It will then work great.

I don't care about Wireless Tethering since it I'm the only one connecting to it through my computer so I just use Easy Tether which even works if you're not rooted.

I use "wifi tether" from the play store and it works fine.

Is there a way to use the native tetherkng option yet? On the S2, it was as easy as freezing TetheringProvisions app. Any luck for the S3?
I use wifi tether for root users under generic ics profile and it works fine for me. I have to restart the phone each time i use it though, not sure why.

Yes, it is USB. I've been using it since I had the Mytouch 3G. I don't see a need in using WiFi tether unless you are sharing it with other people or using a Tablet. If you are using a PC then I don't see why you wouldn't want to use USB tethering since it doesn't use any battery power.
Rooted using wifi tether and works no problems. Sometimes i do need to restart wifi tether to get the signal. I am using galaxy nexus (gsm) as the profile.
Mine works. Here's a the tutorial.

i believe all the carriers make you pay to use the native wifi tethering.. I use foxfi and it seems to work fine for me. it's on the play store.
TMO gave me free tethering but it would only work with the TMO tethering app (throttled), not with any other app. After I rooted the other apps worked fine and the root tether app is much faster then the TMO app.
Cool. Thanks guys
ClockWorkMod
First, you will need to download the ClockWorkMod tethering app.
Then, you will need to download the driver for your PC. You can download the driver onto your phone open the file on your PC by connecting your phone to the USB. It pretty much walks you through everything to get started. Takes less than ten minutes and voila, you're online. I searched forever to find this and just discovered it. Now all I need is hotspot so I can use this with my Chromebook. Here is the link to download the driver clockworkmod.com/tether/drivers
Just click Samsung drivers and it will download.
It works great. The only thing that I have noticed that may be a problem is that I got kicked off once. I just started using it so I'm not sure if it happens often, but all I had to do to get it back on was turn off the app on my phone, and on my PC then turn it on from my phone and then click start on my PC.
It's only a trial version, but the full version can be purchased directly from the app once the trial runs out for $4.99. Hope this helps! Enjoy!
Samsung galaxy S3 T-mobile Nonrooted
Ok I am new to tethering since I have always used Comcast....
I have the unlimited data plan from Tmo.... Unlimited data plan comes with 500mb of free tether.... soon enough it will run out... I need to make sure my tether works AND make sure if I do these methods they won't find out I'm tethering....
I just wanted to clarify my question...
So how do I go about this....? as of now my phone is not rooted but it will be if need be....
Everything online is telling me to root my phone and use 30934983458 different apps... if anyone is kind enough can someone explain please how this process works (I am not a noob with phones just with tethering)

Wireless tethering app that bypass carrier detection.

Hi, I've been looking for something like this for a while and tried pretty much all the options on google. And my last hope, PdaNet with FoxFi addon has failed me too, so I've pretty much run out of options.
So, what I'm looking for is to turn my GN into a wireless router without my network detecting that I'm doing so. A lot of the tethering apps out there can achieve this by enable Bluetooth or USB tethering, but that's not how I want it, I want to turn it into a wireless router. Sadly FoxFi fails everytime I try to enable it.
So any of you genius out there knows of an app that can do this, please share. Thank you so much in advance.

If you root and flash any custom rom, it has native built in tethering. As for unrooted apps u named them all
I actually have the AndroidME custom rom installed and have root. It does have the native tethering option, but I always thought that feature is detectable by the wireless carriers. Or have I been torturing myself this whole time? lol.
The native tethering app goes undetected for me when I use my laptop, but if I connect my ps3 to it, I get the redirect when trying to use the browser. None of the third party apps work on my Rom at all. Frustrating, but I've just gotten used to not using my ps3 online.

If your on tmobile Try this..
Create new APN
Settings, wireless and networks, more, access point names.
Name it some thing like "data" and under APN put "epc. T-Mobile.com" (no quotes)
Leave everything else blank and save, then set as default.
Profit
Hope this helps.. used to work on my amaze.
This always solved
the T-Mobile nag screen problem
If foxfi didn't work then there is a setting you need to ad to your APN settings.
I use the default tethering app in android and haven't had any problems.
What I did was make sure my APN type in my APN settings read the following with no spaces.
"default,supl,mms,dun"
You should be able to use the default tethering and hotspot with no problems after that.
Works on both stock and rooted devices across the board.
If your running jellybean, then you don't have to add "dun" but I add it anyway for good measure.
Happy tethering.
Thanks for the tips, gonna be moving to simple mobile next month and hopefully these tricks will work.

I don't know which one of your fixes work but I did both and I now have wifi tethering using Fox-fi unrooted with my unlimited T-mobile 4g data plan! Thanks! Been searching for days on how to get it to work since I got my Nexus 7.
And it seems to work fine with the native hotspot app. I just downloaded an additional widget called Hotspot Toggle to make it easy to turn on and off.
Thanks again folks!
The easiest way is to use a User Agent Switcher.
You can read more details about it on here - http://gezby.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=69
Download "Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot Widget" and put that on a homescreen. A simple push of that icon will activate native tethering and bypass carrier check ups. Been using it for the last year with zero issues.
FWIW I've been using Native tethering since I first bought my VZW Nexus in December without a hitch. Since switching to T-Mobile I have also been using the Native tethering to my Nexus 7 without issue. I haven't used a tethering app since the gingerbread days

Using a User Agent Switcher you will be able to bypass tethering blocks set by your network provider.

[Q] how to get Wi-Fi tethering to work

Well I have read through the development thread of ktoonsez and task's kernel and rom and even used yes search in the thread and have come up with no answers. When I was on ICS I had no issue with Wi-Fi tethering but since I have moved to this rom I can create the hotspots however there is no internet connection. I found a couple posts in the thread using the search but they seem to be gone from the actual thread since after I click the link it's not on the page that pops up.
I am currently running both the ktoonsez & task rom and kernel (latest versions) on a bell I747m with MVLDLK4 modems on MTS . I don't have a tethering plan but when I was on ICS it didn't seem to matter. Can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction?

If you are talking about using the WIFI Tether app Jelly Bean essentially broke it. The devs are working on a fix. XDA member Treve has a mod that will get it to work though. His OP is posted in the Verizon forums but I can assure you it works on our AT&T phones. I used it last night. There is an issue worth noting that once you tether and untether your WIFI won't work again until you clear cache and reboot. It is a minor annoyance IMO but I threw it out there so no one freaks out.
If you are talking about straight stock tethering I haven't run into the issue myself. My stock tether/WIFI hotspot works flawlessly. After updating to 4.1.1 did you do a full data wipe? If not I would recommend it. I ran into all kinds of bugs after doing the Kies update. Battery drain, Google Now had a learning disability, etc.
Do a google search for Treve WIFI Tether mod for the link and give it a go. In the OP he says that secure tethering doesn't work. It does. Used it last night as a test.
Also if you have a rooted phone already download mobile odin. You can have the app reflash the stock .tar and inject everoot and SuperSU. That's what I generally do when a new OTA is released. Hasn't failed me yet. Any questions shoot me a PM.

Wifi Tether works. The old version stopped working for me after upgrading to JB, but I downloaded a different beta. You have to download the TrevE Mod, wifi_tether_v3_3-pre2.apk.
Also I had to change some settings.
Device profile is set to GS3.
Fallback tether is enabled.
Send Netd Max Client Cmd is enabled.
Both Wifi-driver reload options are enabled.
MSS clamping is enabled.
Routing fix is enabled.
This works for me. Sometimes no data will come through but restarting my phone fixes the problem. I'm rooted on stock JB.

[Q] How to Get Around T-Mobile Hotspot

Ok, I know I have seen a few threads about this but nothing conclusive or, dare I say, noob friendly as to how to resolve it. So I am asking here. My roommate has moved out leaving me with a few weeks of having to rely on my phone for internet. I am currently running Infamous v.8 and by using Hotspot Shield Free and Wifi Tether TrevE I can hotspot tether for a limited about of data before I have to wait about 6 hours or so. I am looking to find a way to just hotspot tether natively without using apps and without getting the T-mobile screen. I have used many roms including the Carbon KitKat rom using dalvik but still get the T-mobile screen, if the computer connects at all.
I have heard about some libs you can push to get tethering to work, but having never done that, I would need some detailed instructions.
Thanks for any help you can give.
Do this it works on the att s4 using the built in native hotspot feature
First go to settings applications /manager /all
Your tmobile s4 may not have the native hotspot feature but if does this step is critical for it to work...
Find the hotspot app disable it .
Next go to any root browser tool and go to prefer rom toolbox lite.
Go to System/app find tetheringprovsion.apk rename it to tetheringprovision.bak
Rename the tetherprovision.odex
To tetherprovision.bak2
Download the modified tether provision apk from the att s4 general forum. and copy it into sytem/app folder same folder you renamed the others.
reboot phone and then after reboot.
Go back to settings apllication manager/all
and re enable hotspot
Then you can tether .

I know some ROM's that have tethering and portable hotspot built in. On my old Samsung Relay had a Clockwork mod, and when I went to settings, more - there was an area for tethering and portable hotspot and it ran just like it was a normal function included with the phone. Loved it.
So check the different rom's out there some should have the same thing.

tmobile hotspot

hello everyone, I have a rooted s4 on t mobile, i am using cyanogenmod 12.1 , my question is. up to now I was able to use my hot spot to watch Netflix on my Roku stick
without being slow down, today i noticed my Netflix would not work, I call t mobile and they told me it was because I had use all my allowed data, I never had the problem before, how can they tell I was using the phone as a hot spot, I though if you were rooted they could not tell if you were tethering, any answer will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance
Dump that CM garbage and flash a TW or GPE rom.
So do you think it's Cm vi that caused it, I had a gpe rom before

It's just a good guess, but yeah. I've only ever had problems with CM or any rom based on CM.

Probably was using a apn for tethering that wasn't the normal lte apn

Thus has nothing to do with what ROM you're running; since so many people are abusing the service (ie. forgoing home internet and using their phones to tether to), carriers found a different means to see who is tethering, and are cracking down in them.

After tinkering around, I found a workaround that is working for me so far so I decided to post. I am on insane hybrid and obviously rooted.
Installed newest google tether app (experimental version): https://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wifi_tether_v3_4-experimental1.apk
- Left it as unsecured but enabled the access control
- Changed setup method to WEXT (ad-hoc) and started tether.
Streaming, downloading, Dropbox are all now syncing on my computer and I have full speeds again after being throttled. To browse with chrome, I installed the extension "user-agent switcher" and changed to "Samsung Galaxy S3".
I am curiuos if this works for anyone else, or if anyone has found an easier fix. Thanks.
