No LTE on the Nexus 4!
CC
step 1) go to the nexus 4 forums
You don't! :silly:
That is crazy fast! I just got 4g from spritn where I live. I want a Nexus 4 but I can't part ways with the LTE even though everywhere I go has wifi.
Using LTE drains your battery very quickly. I'd pick HSPA+ any day over LTE.

Typical home internet is 10/1.. nobody needs 40 Mbps down, and nobody should be paying more that $50 per month for phone service.
Got LTE in the USA? Congratulations, you are paying a premium for something you don't need.

I always find arguments like this funny. You don't NEED a smartphone either. So let's stop being ridiculous about needs and wants.
Where would technology be if everyone felt that <insert whatever> is good enough? I shudder at the thought.

Invalid argument.
If you have a smartphone, you no longer need to pay for a home internet connection... plus you are always connected. Some people actually DO need to be always connected for work.

I wonder how their job existed before smartphones Maybe with laptops? There is always an alternative; nothing is black and white.
Needs and wants are a slippery slope. It is not an invalid argument at all.

Typical logic says you aren't open to discussion, nobody with a closed mind needs to go online and argue their opinions to everyone else.
*****ing about something you dont understand and dont have access to? Congratulations, you're spending premium time on something you dont need to do!
If you have an opinion your mind is closed about, you no longer need to discuss in.. Plus you dont even have real world experience with it anyways. Some people actually DO have experience with LTE and realize its value for work, and entertainment.

While I do believe your seemingly knee-jerk complaint (that LTE chugs juice - which is well known), you really need to cycle the battery 2-3 times before complaining.
A fresh first ever charge on a brand new battery is never stellar.

But basically anyone with a brain is going to disable it anyways.

At this stage LTE is something better left turned off unless you need it. Emails being pushed over LTE is a waste of battery. I find LTE to be too power inefficient at present so I don't even consider LTE phones, hence why I have the gsm version of the Nexus..and my battery life is just fine.

Yep. Unless LTE drastically reduces latency then it's like 99% useless to most of us.
If it operates on 700 MHz or some other low frequency like I think I've read then that would be a real saviour to the Verizon folks since the high frequency they operate their current 3G on has serious issues inside buildings.

I've always said this myself. Unless you pay for tethering and need to download .iso images at breakneck speed, LTE on a cellphone is kind of silly.
OMG 32mbps on my phonez!!
I just don't get how 32mbps can "better" stream what 5mbps can do just fine?
But Verizon fans always have their safe ground to say "well, at the end of the day Verizon has better coverage" which is true, but I can count the number of times on one hand ATT had spotty coverage for me in the past 6 years...

LTE download speeds are insane. I'm thinking most people with LTE have tether and use LTE to replace home internet service.
1.8 might be "good enough " for you but I find myself waiting for pictures to load and apps to download a lot. Then again I rarely see more than 1 on 3g. 4g is welcome here.

This trick has been around for a while. I have been using it since the G2x days and haven't abandoned it yet. It works on my GS2 and it has been working on my Galaxy Nexus as well. Create a new APN with the exact same settings as I post here. I am still working to find out what (if anything) needs to be changed on the MMS end but thought I'd go ahead and share this. Enjoy!
*Disclaimer* This will not work for everyone! You could possibly still get throttled. In my personal experience, it stops my data counter altogether. For other people, they just go beyond the throttle threshold. Find out where you stand. **HINT** I'd recommend only changing to this once you're nearing the end of your cycle and before you are throttled.
Has anyone given this a try yet? I'd like to know how you guys are fairing on speed tests? I have been seeing better speeds with this apn at my apartment which is kinda like a big bunker. Lol.

Lol, I don't want to broadcast faster speeds on the new apn but as far as my apartment goes - they are faster. (Then again, I don't really ever use my cellular data at home anyway.) I just like to put a much larger emphasis on avoiding being throttled!
This is bull****.
Last night I burned through my 5GBs. Now the internet feels slower than a 56K modem.
Today, I tried this "trick", same speeds....

You do it before being throttled. Not after. Don't call it bull**** because you didn't follow directions. It's funny how I and other people have plenty of success with this but you, the person who fails to follow directions, comes in here to act like it doesn't work. One of the most important things to do when doing most anything on xda is read and follow directions.

Well, some people fly under the radar. Some people get throttled eventually. Lastly, some people get throttled like normal. Trying it out isn't for the feint of heart because you never know which one you'll be until you try.
This is why I recommend trying it near the end of your cycle so you don't have much to lose. Sometimes sim swapping helps too.

I believe it is since it has the same internals of the Skyrocket just with a bigger screen and s pen. Which means just a lash of our modem on the Gnote(At&t), it should allow the phone to work on 3G.
Well the good thing about the note is that we will get even more development from our older brother.
The past few months, my iPhone loving coworker has been telling me, "it won't be long before you see morons walking around with 7 and 9 inch tablets up to their ear as their cell phone." Looks like his prediction is getting really close to becoming reality.

This phone really can't do simultaneous voice+data? Exynos fail.
I believe Sprint 3G never support simulteneous voice/data. When you make a call data drop to 2G. That said, 4G WiMax can be use with voice. I believe LTE is or will be also, but I don't remember for sure.

I was thinking about getting the S3 because of this, but I'm almost always around Wifi at home & work. The phone can do voice & data assuming it has either a Wifi or LTE connection, right?

The assumption here is that when LTE hits "our" market, you will be able to do this correct?
For me, I assist my kids' soccer teams. There is nothing like having a parent call you for directions and being able to mark their current location then provide real time directions from their current location.
So, yes, to "some" of us it is important.
Deal breaker, no, "if" its coming.

I agree that it's not a huge deal. Just an annoyance. Sometimes I am downloading small files from internet on 3g at work(no Wi-Fi ) and receive a call. If I answer, download fails, so I either can't answer the call or have to restart download. With my slow 3g that is kind of a pain in ass.

Having left Apple after being an iPhone owner since the 3rd generation, I can say that I am neither jealous or a hater... Yes, it works for Android too. You just have to type in the same ap, BUT you have to type it backwards, and after you've finished, reboot the phone and turn "Airplane mode" off and back on again 200 times. It's a random way to get free 3G for free. Worked for me the second try. I think I messed up counting the first time and only did the airplane mode about 150 times. Good luck!

Whatever APN you used on your iPhone then use it on the android. You may find though that a/ they have sussed it out and changed the way its billed/monitored or b/ its a bug and is only 'Free' when used on an iPhone as that might report to the network differently than other phones do.
In support of the OP, I have heard of things like this happening before. In the same way that some people can get billed billions of pounds a month due to a 'billing error' the systems do sometimes either fall over or have bugs in them that mean people can exploit them (accidentally)

Try Tuenti Mobile in Spain. 6 euros a GB or 15 euros for 3gb. I think it's well worth the money!
Regardless, I have to agree that it was a fluke because when you put your SIM and access any service, the phone company has a record of it. You first have to insert your SIM to be able to use any radio that connects to a cell tower. The SIM, even in airplane mode, is still active. But I must say that's cool that you got free data for a while.

Lets not get into a bickering match here.
If you can't help the OP and have nothing constructive to say then maybe this isn't the tread for you. As for the OP, don't rise to it
