[Q] Am I wrong? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

So here is my story and I am going to make it as short as possible...
About two months ago, I had a Gnex on Sprint. I ended up trading someone on Craiglists for a Evo 4G LTE. I stayed with that phone for about a week or so before i traded that one to my wife for her S3.
Well recently she said she had been missing her S3 so i put her phone up for trade on craigslist for a S3. I received an offer that I couldnt refuse so we met up. That was last night, we are at the mall and as we are trying to switch over phones with Sprint, my phone becomes a paper weight. The rep on the phone told me that my phone has been reported as lost or stolen and that I need to take that phone back to Sprint. I was very fustrated being that we spent over 45 minutes on the phone with them trying to make a simple swap. We ended up cancelling the whole thing and all I was left was was non working Evo LTE.
I went home and thought to my self this is a HUGE mistake on Sprints part and I am sure that it will get resolved once i take it back. Well they ended calling me back and stating that as of OCt 24th my Evo was flagged as stolen. I asked how or why if I have been using this phone for over 2 months now. They said that the individual that i swapped my Nexus with never returned that phone after he did an insurance claim on it. Yet when I called them a few weeks later to make the swap with my wives phone they didnt say anything about it. I am so angry with Sprint that I decided to go ahead and sell my S3 pay the ETF and go buy a Nexus 4 on the 13th. I am a victim of a scam and they never warned me or better yet I dont agree with CDMA technology. If this was a GSM carrier I would've of never gone though this.
It sucks and I was seriously going to wait out my contract with them but after this.....no this broke the camels back and made me not want to ever go through this AGAIN.
BTW I was kind of planning on getting the N4 but my wife convinced me not to and to wait it out. Once this happened she was so mad at Sprint too that she said Go get you LG Nexus! I was like
Still though this just isnt right, and this can happen to ANYONE.
What would you guys do?

I would not trade phones with people on Craigslist.
It will not be long before you can not active a stolen phone on AT&T or TMO either.

Sprint Customer Service...

Well, I got my Galaxy Nexus on the 21st, was very excited to get it, but I ended up returning it yesterday because I didn't like it very much compared to my Epic Touch. I had used my brother's upgrade (he doesn't care much about phones.) so I could get the early upgrade pushed to my account (~$45 charge). Anyways, when I was returning it, my main reason for returning was battery with screen time was terrible! (2 hours maximum for me, even on lowest brightness) and speakers weren't loud at all. Otherwise, it was a really good phone.
Anyways, when I went in, I told him I wanted to exchange the phone. He continued to tell me that having two web browsers (stock and ICS+) was draining the battery, my 1 minute screen idle screen off time was too high and that I had NFC checked, which was draining battery the entire time...(even though my complaint was screen on, not standby). After making me feel like an idiot, he told me I should just put the phone on Craigslist to trade it out for the Epic Touch (lol?). After I confirmed I wanted an exchange, he told me I'll have to put the phone back on the upgraded line myself, so he sent me over to their phone with no number to call (had to look it up on the device I was returning. lol!) I asked if they could do it for me and said only customer service can do it for me...kind of seems strange a SPRINT store couldn't do it for me. So I took about 15 minutes getting on the phone with someone, an additional 15 minutes getting the phones swapped back, then finally I had someone helping me with the exchange. Sprint said my upgrade fee is irreversible, that it changed my contract and that I could only use it at Sprint to upgrade my device. They also said my restocking fee and activation fee wouldn't be waived. While they were processing the Galaxy Nexus return, I called BestBuy, told them of my situation and they told me to return the phone and come in (the Epic Touch is $149.99 at BB anyways), so I went back into the store and just told them to return the phone and I'll be on my way. Well, they took about an hour processing my return AFTER I came back in and once again they said I can only use my early upgrade at a Sprint store. After I left activating my old Epic (SPH-D700), I went straight to BestBuy, used my early upgrade there, and got out in 30 minutes. I'm just surprised with how badly Sprint treated their customers.
Anyone else get terrible experience like this at Sprint? My total visit was from 10:40 to 1:00 PM!
Just saying now...AVOID THIS STORE!
9810 Baymeadows Rd # 1 Jacksonville, FL 32256
(904) 565-4400
P.S. I gave a family member my old Epic Touch, which is why I couldn't just simply go back to it.
P.S.S. I am glad to be back!
EDIT: They waived my restocking fee, but activation fee still there. lol
I'm glad it work out and your back
So I guess we'll be seeing you in the SGIII forums when it drops seeing how the GNex didn't excite you all that much

Haha, I'm probably going to hold out for the SGSIII. This phone was definitely faster, too. Nothing but Exynos for me.
I must say that I had a similar problem when I returned in my Photon (within my 30 days) for the Epic Touch on launch day. I had already called cs beforehand to make sure that I wouldn't have any problems. The manager at the local store was a real ***** and insisted that I be charged a $30 restocking fee. She even made a second invoice for the return. I called cs back and they refunded $15 as they couldn't find the invoice in their system. How convenient. Needless to say, I will do my phone purchases at Best Buy from now on, as they never give me any hassles. The Sprint GS3 will be an S4 as the Verizon leaked one will...so Evo S4 vs GS3 S4. Or maybe the Note successor? I'm gonna pass on the new Photon...

Returning the phones is always a PITA.
Sorry to hear about your crappie experience at your Sprint store... I picked up a Galaxy Nexus a few days ago (5) at my local Sprint store and was not impressed with it at all. Battery life was horrible stock and not much better rooted and romed. Took it back this morning and didn't have one issue returning it. No restock fee or having to call anyone to do it. Just unrooted and reset it, put it back in its box and told the CS rep I didn't like it. They reactivated my EVO and made sure that my upgrade was still good.

The US version of the S3 isn't getting the Quadcore Samsung Exynos chip, it's not compatible with US LTE/4G. The US version is going to get the Dualcore Qualcom S4 chip.

I hate how sales reps always seem to take returns personally, especially when you didn't buy the phone from them in the first place so you aren't taking commission out of their pocket.
I always purchase my phones through Sprint's website unless someone local is offering a deal that can't be beat and if I need to return that phone I take it into the local corporate store as is allowed.

Thats why i buy from Sam's Club. they give you 30 day exchanges too even though sprint changed their policy, usually have the phone on release day with no lines, lower price (and save money on taxes too in CA bc how they ring it up), and while ur waiting on activation u head on down to the food section and grab urself a polish dog!

They seemed a lot more helpful when I went in to buy the phone (they even sold me it a day early). Sucks to see how much they change when you want to return something.
As for the s4, I am not going to believe it until Samsung announces it. This exact thing happened last year with this phone. Remember when everyone stated this phone was going to get the Tegra 2?

They do have the Exynos compatible with LTE, but only for the Korean market as of now, as their LTE network is different from the US/Canada.
Tomorrow at 2pm EST is not that far away, so we'll see.

Absolutely the worst customer service of any provider out there. They don't give 2 ****s about their customers and that is very clear. Not only do they offer extremely poor customer service, but their rude on top of it. T-Mobile has excellent CS in comparison hands down...(and yes, once my contract expires I will never go back to sprint, I made a mistake and now I'm stuck in this pool of ****).
If you think their stores are bad, try calling them on the phone, there they REALLY don't give a ****....on the line with some fat ghetto chick that's filling her nails and can't speak proper Inglish, now that's a treat for ya! I recently had a 2 hour argument with them about no service at my house and at work (you know, the usual no text coming through at times, calls that never come through, and lets no speak about their 3g speeds...) . Nothing was done to help me, I even explained that I have a 3 year old at home with the wife and that it's vital that I don't miss calls in case of an emergency etc...but apparently my word doesn't jack since it shows that my area has coverage on their system. Their final response was: "Sir, that's what our 14 day return policy is for!" Bout lost it as you can imagine...!:banghead:
Sorry for the novel, saw the title and couldn't help it, but since that experience I have developed a deep hatred for sprint and their horrible CS. I ****ing hate them, but I'm stuck ATM...(and no I'm not spending 700$ to get out of it..).

Good to have you back. Just a thought for the future, check out Amazonwireless next time. Got my E4GT for $100 less than Sprint (or Corp Sprint store) - $99.00 U.S. AND got it in just two days; ordered on monday around noon had it in my hand by wednesday afternoon! Let it charge for a little while called CS from my old phone and let them know I was wanted to activate my new phone, and in less than 5 minutes I was up and running. I've sent other to Amazonwireless and none have been dissapointed. A co-worker save $100 on the lates Droid4 too.

Question about sprint 14 day grace period

So my brother needed a new phone badly and he went out and switched to sprint (from verizon) and got a galaxy s2 today. I know the galaxy s3 is coming out in 15 days.
Now as far as I see, Sprint has a 14 day return policy for the phones. Do you think there's any way he would be able to return the phone in 14 days and get the galaxy s3 the next day?
The tricky part is that he's switched from verizon, so if he returns the phone, I don't know if he can still keep the wireless plan or is eligible for a new phone. Does anyone have experience with what happens if you sign up for a new plan but then keep the plan and just return the phone? Are you still eligible for discounts on the phone then? I could give him an old touch pro 2 to keep the account active for a couple of days if needed.
Thanks for any tips.

Well the policy is 14 days. And the day he got it counts as day 1. And if you return it within the 3rd day they will credit back the activation fee. If you return after the 3rd day (4-14) they will stick you with the activation fee. Also if the reason that he is returning it is just because he wants the gs3 they might charge him with a $35 restocking fee. As soon as he returns the device the reset the upgrade .So my advice is to return asap if he is still within the 1-3 days. And the only way for him to keep his number and plan is to activate the extra TP2 that you said you have. Hopefully this helps

Hey!
I have some experience with this, and I can tell you (at least, again, from my experience) that Sprint will let you do something like that... if you switch the phone on the same day.
I think if you call in advance, maybe they'll make some leeway for you, or at least explain what you can do. But sorry, I don't know about whether or not you can return the phone and then wait, and pick it up.
However, for me, on the 13th day following my contract extension I was able to replace an Evo 3D for an E4GT, no problems at all.
Also... maybe you can exchange for a pre-order? That's just a thought...
Thanks for the replies so far. In all honestly, that Galaxy S 3 will be mine! lol. So if the upgrade gets reset I can have him activate my old palm treo or the touch pro 2 and then once he gets the galaxy S 3 I'll just pay him the 35 bucks if need be. He will then get my galaxy S2, so nothing lost on his end.
why didn't he just go to walmart and get a cheap pay-as-you-go phone for $40 to tie him over until the s3 is available? would've been cheaper than the mess he got himself into.

He needs the phone for business and he was actually just planning on keeping the Galaxy S2. So it's technically me making things complicated because I think the upgrade is going to waste getting an S2 instead of S3.
You can do it. The thing is you or him needs to exchange one device for the other at the moment in the grace period. But not return it and stay without a phone till SGSIII arrive. Good luck.

Wait so this thread is about you wanting an s3 and talking your brother who had to have a phone and got one he probably likes since the s2 is one of the best phones ever made(imho) and now you want to cost ALL OF US INCLUDING YOURSELF IN THE LONG RUN MORE MONEY? Dang..... thats worng and I hope with all sinceraty your brother returns his s2 and keeps his s3 for himself.
if you dont think you are costing us money by waisting a completley good device that will have to be sold to asurion then wait until the next hike in sprints prices ex: TEP goes to $11 next month we have it good with unlimited data but since sprint customers try to cut so many corners the company is being forced to find ways to make up the money...... and I already know you dont care bout coporate america blahblahblah, we'll see when your in the "omg I cant believe sprint is charging me for this now thread"
Again these are my opinions so take it for what its worth

I'm not sure if i exactly understand what you are saying. The grace period is 14 days, but the new phone comes in 15 days.
My plan is to go on the 20th (the 14th day of the grace period) and tell them he doesn't want to keep the galaxy s2, but wants to keep the plan. Then I will have thenm activate a treo or TP2 that I have laying around in lieu of the gs2, wait until the next day or two when the GS3 is out (he will have to use the treo for a day or two) and have him purchase the GS3 at that time.
Crossing my fingers and hoping that works.

I appreciate your opinion. However, I am not doing anything outside of Sprint's own limitations. They have a 14 day grace period for you to try out the phone. I will end up paying 35 dollars likely for returning the galaxy s2 as well. The whole purpose of the 14 day grace period is if you change your mind. I am more informed on the subject than my brother and have convinced him that the galaxy s2 was not a good choice when the s3 is coming out. I believe that is a legitimate reason to return the S2 and get the S3

OK not gonna start a war w you bout this but if that were the case they wouldn't ding the sales rep who sold you your device when you exchanged it, even worse if it is 3rd party you lose you comish all together. The policy is so if you are absolutely unable to learn a device or it does not fit into your lifestyle such as work or things of the sort, it not put in play so we can test a device or borrow for 2 weeks bottom line weather you believe it or it straight up coat the company money period and if we dont preserve what we have it will be gone.

I take no offense to your post and understand your stance on it. I was not aware that the representative loses their commission if the item is returned, but that does make sense considering that sprint did not make any money on it. Considering that fact, I can try to return to the same representative when purchasing the galaxy s3 to minimize his loss at the very least.
Won't work, you have to do a direct exchange within the 14 days. If you return it, they'll cancel the account which will cancel his number. If you "activate a treo in the mean time", his 14 days is still running, meaning he'll be out of luck come the 15th day. Best bet is to call customer care to see if they will let you pre-order the S3 and use a temp phone in the mean time.
Should have waited one more day.
EDIT: As long as you exchange the device, the rep still makes commission for the activation. If you outright return it, they get charged back for it.

Thanks for the tip. Although I don't understand why he wouldn't be able to keep the phone line without keeping the phone. I guess they are linked? Would he be able to just activate another sprint line without purchasing a phone and just transfer the line over to there?
I think I'll just have to go down to Sprint with him soon and figure all this out. In the end if we can't do it it's not a huge loss. The GS2 is and will still be an awesome phone. It would just be awesome to have the latest and greatest
He can return the phone completely on last day then buy the SGSIII when it comes out. Or just return the SGSII ina week then get another phone to reset his 14day period

Exchanging does not "reset" the 14 day guarantee. If you exchange on day 14, that's the phone you're stuck with.
on a somewhat related note, you only get one exchange during that 14-day period so be sure to choose the exchange wisely.
So after all of that my brother decided to stay with Verizon because he wasn't happy with the wireless service on sprint. No new phone...

Apparently bit too late but still may be someone will use this info.
I was due for upgrade last year in july when EVO 3D came out.
I had a Samsung Moment and I used my upgrade to get EVO 3D.
Back than it was 30 days grace period.
I kept EVO 3D for about 2 weeks and couldn't get used to it. So I returned it to Sprint and went back to my Samsung Moment.
My account has been reset and money has been refunded except for $35 restocking fee.
It all happened in July.
6 months later in December I used my upgrade to get SGSII.
So if you have account and you return the phone you still keep the number and contract. At least it's true for upgrades.

Just to clarify things yes the number and the ESN from whatever device you have at that time are linked. If you return the device you cannot keep the line open as it will not have a valid ESN attached to it.

Getting my THIRD sprint Galaxy nexus on wednesday...

Hey guys... I got my first sprint galaxy nexus a week ago and it started giving me problems with the settings app force closing no matter what I did.
Got my second galaxy nexus last Wednesday to replace that one. After sprint activated and I left the store, it started giving me serious reception problems since text messages would come in late (3hour delay) and couldn't make calls from places where I have a good signal and my other sprint phones work just fine.
Went to the store on Thursday and the tech said my PRL was outdated and that it was a network issue on their part. Bull****, my Epic 4g touch and Evo 4g had zero problems.
I left hoping what they said was true and went home. the issues started again, my sister had left her keys and needed me to open the door for her at 1am after a party while I was sleeping. My phone didn't ring at all so she had to go to her friends house to spent the night. Her text messages from 1am that night came in at 9 am. I was extremely pissed and went to the store again on Friday. The tech said that my phone was fine and was receiving test messages he sent from his personal iphone 4s.
I called the manager today and he was sorry, to make things better he offered me a different phone.... a LG VIPER.
I asked if he was joking, he said no. I told him only a fool would take that offer and demanded something WORTH my $11 monthly insurance.
He said the LG viper 4g lte is the compareable model to my phone. I said sure, a crappy LCD, less storage, android 2.3 and $399 MSRP compared to the nexu's $549.99 MSRP.
After arguing he finally agreed to get me another refurbished nexus...
We'll see how it goes now
sorry to hear of your troubles.
i gotta laugh at the lg viper as the equiv tho haha. did you call him a noob and to learn his phones so customers dont walk in with more knowledge than the sales reps?
I raged at him for it and explained the differences step by step... I can't believe he's actually a manager -,-
at least he didnt say "youre holding it wrong" >.<
Yup. Its amazing to see how companies hire people to sell their product without any knowledge. Wednesday can't come fast enough.
On the plus side, Juice Defender ultimate has kept my battery charged from 6am to 10pm Despite all the issues I've had, I'm loving my Galaxy Nexus. Sprint... not so much.
Go to year 9080 and get a Falaxy Gexus
Sorry to hear about your problems with your Galaxy Nexus. That's why people need to stop buying into contracts and go prepaid.

I have had my Verizon galaxy nexus from day one launch. Starting to see lots of reception problems on a trip from San Diego to San Francisco in the car. My state of the art 4G lte phone is getting its ass handed to it by a 3g droid x2 that my wife is rocking. Maybe its the phone maybe its the service but I have came to the conclusion that all these phone company are racking in the cash while we customers suffer what happened to the days when products were pulled off the shelf when they were bad getting a refurbished phone is outrageous after paying almost 400 dollars for a phone on contract we all need to return our phones and cancelled our contracts and just get prepaid until these people start running there companies right

Just lost my E4GT, need help with TEP.

Hey guys, I have TEP and was wondering what they're replacing our phone with now. I'm asking because a few years ago I used to have a Mogul and needed to have that replaced, but they gave me another phone.
Anyway, has anyone gone through the process recently?

It'll be a Epic touch 4G most likely.. but who knows.. I've heard some people recently say that they wanted to force an htc evo design on them.. do the claim online and it should tell you as you do the process.
That's what happened to me today.. They tried to fool me into believing the HTC Evo was a comparable phone to the Galaxy S2.. When I wouldn't budge they tried to get me to upgrade to the S3 by paying $260+ to buy out my contract and upgrade by signing another two year contract.. I'm pissed off.. I mean why do I pay insurance for?

Ha that's why I think phone insurance is such a joke. Better of just saving that money and buying a used phone out right. All of my android phones have been used purchased on eBay or Craigslist and have never had any problems.

I made a claim on mine the other day and they sent me an Evo 3D which wasnt bad but I just came from the 4G and wanted soemthing different so I complained a bit and they are now sending me a E4GT but I have to wait 5 days
My guess is that Sprint is going to run out the stock to Boost and other MVNOs... I know ours has been on back order status for MONTHS!

If you raise enough of a stink, probably... but I'd say they're trying to run that stock out before the holidays. (More S3s, more $$$)
My screen shattered on my black E4GT a couple weeks ago. TEP offered me an original EVO 4G. I said no way, that's a two+ year old phone. They then offered me an EVO Design or a Motorola Photon. I refused. Four different people, including two people from their "Resolution Team" said there was nothing else they could do. My phone wasn't available. Fourth person offered me a supervisor. Within 30 seconds I was offered a white E4GT. Fine by me. UPS delivered it about 18 hours later.

New or refurb?
Just call and talk to them.
Be persistent but don't try demanding anything from them or you will end up in a 10 call 20 person runaround.
Know your facts and f they try to offer you an inferior device call them out.
Remember... you will catch more bees with honey than vinegar.
Good Luck!

It kinda is but if a month in your phone gets destroyed its totally worth it. No ones getting a Galaxy SIII straight out for 150 bucks etc. I lost my last phone the month after I took insurance off it. Bought another on ebay for like 30 bucks until my contract was up (not a smart phone).
The real idea long term when there are little to no replacements available is you have A phone that in general runs most of the software you had before. But yeah its often idiotic the choice they give you and it takes some doing to get a comparable phone. Your alternative choice is buying a phone for 100 bucks of Ebay that is nowhere near what you had, or just going without a phone altogether.
When insurance was introduced most phones didn't even do what these phones did there was less to lose, maybe your phone couldn't run this jar or that jar that was about it. Its a little more problematic now.
sigh, these guys suck.
I've tried talking to them, all they give me is the option to get a Nexus S 4G, the phone from which I paid 200 bucks to upgrade from. The E4GT is backordered, and they said a minimum of 7 days till they have a possibility of it being back in stock.
I don't understand how they can screw a customer who's had TEP for ages like this.
I'm going to give Executive Support a call, let's see what they can do.
They tried to pull that crap with me when I TEP'd my phone due to a faulty screen. They sent me an EVO 4G and said that it was the most comparable phone they had in stock. I told them I wasn't going to take a phone that was 2 years old when mine had just came out. They said it was all they could do and that they would be sending out the replacement phone within 24 hours.
A couple of days later I got my replacement phone, sure enough, it was an EVO 4G. I shipped it back, and here I sit with my faulty E4GT.
TL;DR TEP is garbage and you might as well outright buy your phones.

I don't have that email lol, i'll pm you for future reference.
But after two weeks of this, I finally got a E4GT, but the replacement they sent sucks, the GPS doesn't work at all, and the screen is really dim, they said they're sending me another replacement, but lets see how long this one takes.
At least I can make an receive calls for now/get my email lol. I'm canceling TEP after this, it's not worth the amount of money that I'm paying.
Tep cs is so easy to bs.. Im extremely anal about my phone if i get one mark on my phone i call them give them a reason bs excuse, i also master reset my phone to make sure they seen ive tryed that to "fix" my phone.... Lol... Ive learned what and what not to say to them... Once you figure them out its easy.. Same with otter box... I get a new case like every 2 months lol

I messed up.

So, as im sure everyone has herd of people screwing others over via selling phone off of Craigslist. I posted a add, selling or trading or buying for a note 2. Planned on giving my S3 to my beloved girlfriend. He pursued me. He gave me the esn, was perfect once checked. Drove an hour away, bought it. Went to the near by Sprint store to find out its still activated blah blah blah. So, I called the guy. He said, he was at Verizon getting their Note 2, (said hes a business man, his partner had Verizon and never had trouble with it). Paid $350. Too good to be true huh? He was at Verizon when i called him and said he was porting the number right then and there, i herd him tell the guy to do it right now. Beginning to figure out its a lost caused. & im not about to go and do what he did to me.
I remembered the guy at Sprint saying, sometimes its not instant. He said his personal phone took 18 hrs, but ive always expierenced 2-3 seconds from Sprint.
For now, until I can get closer or anything.
Shes having fun using the multiwindow. Was really wanting to Root it and start a new Journey from the GS3.
Anything would help me, honestly.
Never thought something would happen like this.
Thanks guys, hope everyone on the Gnote is as cool as the GS3
This sucks but their is hope in getting most if not all your money back. You can sell it locally or on ebay as bad esn to be flashed to another carrier. I payed $350 for mine when it came out and it was a bad esn phone. I think i got it cheap considering how popular this phone is. I say sell it and be more cautious next time. Hope that makes you fell a little better.

why not be a little patient and give it a day or two for everything to be fully ported to his phone and then try to activate it online?
Yea, just wait.
The guy is on the hook for paying the monthly service. The phone won't be active for ever...Unless of course the phone is stolen, and the real owner has yet to cancel it...and the esn will eventually go bad.
swyped all these spelling errors from my galaxy note 2

Wait it out if you want to use it with the original carrier which im guessing is the reason you bought it. There are many guides out there for flashing to another carrier but its always safer to have a professional flash it for you. If all else fails you can always sell it and buy another one. Good luck.

If the phone came with the box and original accessories, it is more likely he is telling the truth. If you bought the phone only, there is a good chance you were ripped off.
If it's really activated you could be a jerk and run up the other guy's phone bill...
... but if it's just that the ESN is still allocated to the account and they stiffed a bill then you're out of luck using that MEID for some time. Good news that at some point it should free up and you'd be able to use it if that's the case.
Either way Sprint can check for you by giving the Dec MEID.... even over chat. Just ask if it's still active or if you can activate on your account.
And porting can take up to 3 days. I held off on my port until I knew the MVNO was in office to avoid any issues... port was done in short order due to that prep.
I'd hoped to see the OP come back with a conclusion to this episode.
