Help root F127 - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I have an unrooted Galaxy S2 (Sprint) The build is F127. I can't for the life of me find how to root this thing. I have searched with no luck. Any help would be great. Thanks.

You must have not searched very good... if you take a look at the Q&A's section you'd find a lot of repeated questions similar to yours. Take a look at my signature for the manual way of rooting.

Odd, this is a first, you flashed agats latest kernel from the thread linked in guide, and flashed it via odin? correct, then you booted into recovery and flashed the SuperSU.zip, rebooted, now the phone isn't booting? Did you by any chance wipe data while in recovery? If not try reflashing agats kernel via odin in download mode.

There's an easier way
download the Rooted Restore V2 file here
http://rwilco12.androidfilehost.com/LeakSite/Leaks/Samsung Epic 4G Touch/FI27/ROM/Rooted/
Hold Power+Volume Down till the phone shows the Samsung boot screen.
You will then see a yellow triangle. Hit volume up. Start the file up, and plug in the phone. You should see a YELLOW box on the window. when you do, hit START.
Wait for it to complete. You should now be able to boot the phone up.
Then get this file http://sfhub.rainmotorsports.net/e4gt/staging31/e4gtauto-lite-sfx.exe
Make sure you turn on USB DEBUG in the developers settings on your phone. Plug in the phone and choose option D, then on the next screen option E.
follow the prompts. Once its complete and your phone reboots, put Agats 6.7 Source kernel on your phone and power it down, and hold POWER+VOL UP till the samsung boot image shows.
You will then be in the recovery menu. Wipe cache, then in the advanced menu wipe Dalvik Cache. Then on the main menu in the recovery choose flash zip from sd card, and navigate to where you put agats kernel and choose to install it.
Probably the easiest way to get a solid running stock rom on FI27. It's currently what I'm running till I decide to change it up

Make sure your phone not in debugging and also that you have Samsung USB drivers installed. If that doesn't work try different USB cable or port on computer sometime cable / ports are picky

USB Debugging needs to be enabled. The Root Install Package even says to make sure Debugging is ENABLED.

I meant to say the other way. Palm to face sorry

Brand new to this device

I guess I was at the wrong thread before for the "type" of galaxy s2 so I got lucky I asked questions before I started messing with the phone.
So I just installed the newest update yesterday so I hope it doesnt hinder my ability to root this phone.
I also have a question..does google wallet work with this phone? It has NFC but idk if its compatible with this phone?
And is S-Voice working with this device cause it seems like a great feature when I read about the GSIII
Anything specific I need to know about this phone....im coming from the mytouch 4g slide and this phone is leaps and bounds better than it....im not a noob when it comes to flashing and pretty familiar with ADB but not familiar with ODIN. Other phones I've owned and rooted: sensation 4G, G2, Galaxy S 4G, mytouch 4G and thats all I can remember now.
Sorry for the noobish questions....but I'll thank who ever helps in advance....I really appreciate it

Google Wallet currently does not work on the GSll. As for S-Voice, I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667046.
To root your phone I will put this as simply as possible:
1) Get USB drivers for our phone (T989) (You can get these from installing Kies)
2) Get a recovery. (Either CWM Hard or Touch)
3) Put phone in download mode (Phone off. Hold both volume buttons. Insert USB that is in computer.)
4) Run ODIN as administrator.
5) You should see a yellow bar filled on Odin below the first square on the far left of the program signifying your device is connected.
6)Under PDA find your custom recovery and click open.
7) Press start.
8) Enjoy custom recovery
---- Now flash super user the same way or just download a rom with s.u access (any rom will have this).
Hope I helped.
This is the EASIEST phone to root.
EDIT:
No updating to UVDLE doesn't hinder your ability to root. But if you put on a custom ROM there was no point in updating anyways.
Google wallet will be functional once official ICS drops.

Not to be intrusive and i know this is not my threat, but on step 2 which i see everywhere, what is the different between CWM hard and Touch? that is the only thing confusing me.
And on step 9...., you say use any rom, you mean like aokp or darksider, which they will come with superuser, once flashed, there is my phone and a better software? that seems to be too easy. I noticed some roms do not come with kernels, should i stay away from them? and use only those that have their own kernels?

The video Uber pointed to has all the links to the files you need. To summarize you will have Odin on your computer with Samsung drivers installed. You will also have the clockworkmod tar on the computer and download the ROM to your phone's sd card.
1. You will turn off your phone, hold the 1 key on the keyboard then add pressing and holding the power button until the yellow triangle saying download mode pops up.
2. With Odin up on your computer and auto reboot box unchecked, connect the usb cable (recommend a Blackberry cable). It should show a comxx in the box. Put the clockworkmod tar in the PDA box of odin by browsing to the file on your computer from odin.
3. Hit start. It go pretty fast and tell you when it is complete and passed.
4.Now with the yellow triangle still on your phone, disconnect the cable. Pop the battery out and in. Press and hold in this order, volume down, camera and power buttons making sure the power is the last you add. Hold those for about 5 full seconds. Clockworkmod 5 should come up.
5. Choose install file from sd card by scrolling with the volume down button and selecting with the camera button. Go to the place on your sd card that the FC09 ROM downloaded to, perhaps a directory called download. Choose the file and flash it.
6. Hit reboot system and you should have a rooted deodexed stock ROM on your phone. You are ready to do any rooted stuff and even flash themes on this ROM.

Why don't you keep using qbking77's videos? He has how to videos for a bunch of rom's, plus he reviews rom's too.
Give some of the reviews a viewing, see if you like what is in the rom, and then follow his directions.
What others have said is correct, you can screw up your phone if you're not careful, but his directions are very good and very complete. If you do exactly as he says, you should not have issues.
If you do have issues, others have written instructions on what to do to recover from that too.
Have fun. Take your time. You'll learn as you experiment.
Since you already got the hang of odin it is almost impossible to brick this phone...sponge it yeah but tough to brick. Have fun.

Either pay for the tethering plan.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Or follow the rooting instructions found within these forums or youtube qbking77 epic videos. And download a 3rd party tethering app or flash a custom rom that has tethering baked in.
.
.
.
But be advised the root method violates TOS agreement and if sprint finds out and decides to they can terminate your service no questions asked. I've only heard of it happening if someone uses a extremely large amount of data while tethering. But there is a first for everything.

Hey Guys,
Here's my situation. my power button doesn't work and to my understanding, that's part of the motherboard so I'm kind of fked on that end (water damage so sprint won't replace it).
My phone's stock right now, but I have rooted in the past with QBKING77's method (mentioned above by kennyglass and QBKING77's youtube how-to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9eaCtiS0Bo&feature=youtube_gdata_player).
I'm trying to root the phone so that I can install CM9 on it (used beta 2 in the past). I'm able to adb into the phone and get it into download mode. I'm scared that if I flashed the CWM Tar file, there won't be anything to get into CWM with since I can't do the button combination anymore.
Any suggestions? Also any recommendations on the power button problem would be much appreciated as well (I currently slide to open it and bought a cheapo non-data charger and it boots it up).
Thanks guys for all your help

Get another Epic off of Ebay.
It works fine now. I just slide to get it on and installed a power off app so that's a workaround for now. Upgrade's coming up soon so just going to stick this out for now.
I'm not familiar with ODIN enough but I would assume there's a way to just flash the ROM and CWM at once to obtain root and CWM together....

Sorry, forgot to mention that it doesn't work
The cable just powers the device on without performing the actions of the power button so button combinations don't work
I know I can boot to recovery with a rooted rom, but I need to be able to install that first. And I need my phone to be on with a working ROM in order to ADB into it for any ADB commands.
Can you get into download mode with the cable and holding the "1" key? If so there are odinable prerooted ROMs.

I can't get into download mode with the cable and holding the "1" key, BUT
I can get into download mode by turning on debugging and adb into it with "adb reboot download"
What would the steps be then? Would I obtain a odinable pre-rooted rom (any suggestions?), Odin, re-boot, installed cwm recovery through the app, reboot, boot into cwm, and then wipe + flash cm9?

Here is an EC05 favorite: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32800014/EC05_DXC.tar.rar
When you say app, do you mean ROM Manager? You will have to see if that EC05 prerooted will accept ROM Manager. If that is what you meant, then yes. Just like that.

Ok a few things just to make sure:
I'm on FC09 Stock right now, so by flashing this ROM, I would then be able to install clockworkmod recovery through ROM Manager (giving me the latest clockwork mod recovery I believe) and then get to clockworkmod recovery through ROM Manager.
Eventually I would like to end up on CM9 which is MTD. Could I just flash a CM9 ROM over the EC05 Rooted ROM?
Would I still be on FC09 and/or would it be better to flash another FC09 Rooted ROM (i'm referring to the one in QBKING77's youtube link) to upgrade to FC09 and then flash the CM9 ROM.
In ODIN, I would place the EC05 file in the "PDA" location in Odin?
Would I check re-partition and autoboot? I'm assuming I don't check f. reset time.
Thanks for all your help
If you Odin the tar I posted you will be back on EC05 modem. You can always flash a newer modem with Odin. If ROM manager does work on that odined ROM then you can go right to cm9 after clockworkmod 5.

[Q] Can't get Galaxy S3 (Tmobile) to boot

So after rooting my recent Tmobile GS3 and then attempting to flash the overclock my phone simply wont turn on. The root did fine, and I was able to install setcpu and everything but the second I installed the overclock my phone shut down. Now whenever I attempt to turn my phone it just flashes the Samsung insignia and then it shuts down. I can get to the Downloading screen (by pressing Volume down + power + home) but can I do anything about that? If someone can help me out that would be amazing. Thanks.
Also, I tried flashing a stock rom with Odin and it keeps failing. If anyone knows anything thank you.
Can you get into recovery? Volume up + home + power
If so then flash back to a nandroid backup or to a new rom or whatever.
If recovery wont boot, try again but look for blue text at the top right corner that says "booting recovery" when the sammy logo comes up. I've had it where my recovery wouldnt boot but I saw that for a split second when I tried. If this is the case, get back into download mode and flash the insecure boot + cwm again with Odin. Then you should be able to get into recovery.
If Odin fails to flash, reboot you're computer and try a different USB cable.

There are a few tricks that can be found in this thread:

Just make sure when you odin/flash something, you are flashing the correct image for your phone/carrier.

well I thought I'd give it a try using instructions here. and now I'm hosed. I was able to root and install the ALLINONE (Insecure Boot, CWM & Busybox) rebooted, super user showed up in apps etc. I thought everything was fine. the next thing I tried was disable boot up animation and now the phone won't boot up at all.
I can get into the recovery and download screens but whenever I try to restore I get "can't mount /sdcard/"
The toolkit no longer sees my phone either. When it's plugged in and the toolkit is active, it just cycles over and over "samsung" then "Samsung Galaxy SIII" logo then black screen repeat.
The toolkit keeps giving message either "device not found" or "Waiting for USB debugging to be enabled".

I tried that a few times to no avail and gave up. figured out that I needed to unzip the stock rom from t-mobile in order for Odin to recognize and load it. That's where I left it last night. So I'm now back to stock and reloading all my apps and settings.
I'm ok with that, this is my first go at flashing/rooting. My phone works ... and for that I'm breathing a little easier. thanks for your reply!

[Q] Need help ASAP! :c

Hello all, My name is Zach. I've been around XDA for a while, but haven't really posted anything, I thanked devs for work and have been flashing my phone for a while now. Well, last night, I was exhausted, and shouldn't have done what I did. I flashed the full "CODE_SPH-D710.GA10_818252_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5" to my phone via mobile odin from an ics rom (Phantoms ff18 I believe). Everything was going fine until the phone just shut off, and it booted straight into recovery mode.
Well now my phone will not boot, and I have no access to my external memory card via CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.3 that was installed from the tar. All of my roms are on my external.
Every time I plug it into the computer I get "USB device is not recognized" and it installs an "Unknown Device" driver from windows. So I can not mount it in CWM to send the files to internal.
I have tried removing all drivers and kies, restarting, reinstalling, then plugging my phone back in about 1000 times now.
Now some good news, I can get into Odin mode, but odin does not recognize it due to the problem above^
My question is, is there still hope? and can anyone help me?
I would try redownloading drivers on a diffrent computer if possible and make sure you have original cord. You can also try to wipe data via stock recovery and try to boot again just some quick thoughts also could try to find one of the one clicks and pull cord out and put back in once you open the one click (not during the one click) and see if it will show then start the one click also make sure you have the correct drivers install if you go to sextapes site they have everything you need. Hope it turns out ok:beer:

I would try redownloading drivers on a diffrent computer if possible and make sure you have original cord. You can also try to wipe data via stock recovery and try to boot again just some quick thoughts also could try to find one of the one clicks and pull cord out and put back in once you open the one click (not during the one click) and see if it will show then start the one click also make sure you have the correct drivers install if you go to sextapes site they have everything you need. Hope it turns out ok:beer:

I have tried both my laptops, original cord, multiple other cords, have tried wiping in the CWM to nothing new, I do have the correct drivers and have tried multiple versions of them :/
Opening a one click and plugging the phone in just gives me "USB device not recognized"
Im a little confused you have cwm?
Reading your post cwm does not come with the leaked build you have to flash agats recovery after. So im going to assume that your talking stock recovery.

Maybe it stuck from phantom's ff18 rom? But yes CWM-based recovery 5.0.2.3
If I could get it to recognize my external SD card then I can flash a rom.

I hope its fixable :/
Get a Micro SD USB adapter. You can transfer the files with that.
Well. If your phone still turns on there's hope. After you plug it into your computer and it installs that unknown device or whatever go to control panel -> system -> device manager.
Right click on the unknown device, update driver, browse my computer for drivers, let me pick from list of drivers, then forcefully install the samsung driver through there and then try to odin a stock ICS tar http://rwilco12.androidfilehost.com/LeakSite/?dir=Leaks/Samsung Epic 4G Touch/FI27/Original TAR/.
After the you install the tar I would boot into recovery and wipe data and cache then reboot to make sure it's clean. Then after you're back to stock then you can root recovery whatever and try flashing JB again. I suggest using CWM and a zip file this time around though. Good luck.

I have tried removing all drivers and kies, restarting, reinstalling, then plugging my phone back in about 1000 times now.
Now some good news, I can get into Odin mode, but odin does not recognize it due to the problem above^
My question is, is there still hope? and can anyone help me?

I'm not sure what exactly happened but it sounds as if you are screwed if Odin doesn't recognize it at this point. It sounds like something went very wrong with the bootloader to me, maybe Mobiletech can help repair your device for $50 if all other advise fails.

If they can't fix it they will refund you back your money.

I cannot access the external memory card from CWM, it says "No files found", if I could, I would have flashed a new rom already.

I tried this, there are like 20-30 different samsung drivers to pick from, I tried a few, getting "Error 10, the device could not be started" unplugged phone, plugged back in and just get "USB device not recognized"

I honestly wish I could spend that 50$, but I am going to college and jobless at the moment, so all my money goes to them.

Have you tried the drivers found here http://rwilco12.androidfilehost.com/LeakSite/?dir=Leaks/Misc Files
Delete all Sammy drivers from your laptop restart your laptop then install the drivers you get from the link
If that doesn't work then why don't you boot into the ROM, use mobile Odin and flash the modem and recovery you want t seperately(if you can)

Read the original post , the phone does NOT boot into android, it stays on the splash screen, forever.
Is it possible to boot an android OS from my external memory card? I know you could do it on the NOOK Color
Any help at this point would be greatly appreciated.

So, to recap:
You were on FF18 with custom recovery, went to flash the GA10 tar via MO, phone died during process, isn't recognized when phone is in Odin mode and connected to a pc, you can still get to recovery and download mode on the phone but can't flash because it's not recognized, removed/re installed
Correct?
Have you tried another pc? Have you tried another cable? Have you pulled the sd card out and tried reading that on a pc?
There is some sort of lesson to be learned here. :sly:

Id didn't die, it just turned off, and restarted straight into the recovery. I have tried 3, and 4 different cables, the SD cards reads in the computer but isn't showing up in the recovery, I get "No files found" and since I cant boot, I cant change the directory for the SD card.

Yes, But hopefully my phone is revivable!
Have you tried another pc?
And was it a full flash? You saw pass and it restarted?
:edit: Just saw your post about using both laptops.
What gets me, the flashing process and a restart and still you're left with the custom recovery. I'm interested in where the flash got to.. since the tar doesn't flash a custom recovery..
One thing to try - Put the phone in Odin mode, have it plugged into the laptop, then start odin. Try it backwards..
Which version of Odin are you using?

I've tried a few different versions, but I've been trying to use a one-click that way it will just install everything

[Q] Bricked! What to do next?

I just bricked my Samsung Galaxy S2x (SGH-T989D). :crying:
I was trying to install the latest CWM recovery and Cyanogen ROMs. It all seemed to go smoothly, but then when I rebooted the phone it stuck on the Cyanogen animation - I left it for more that 15 minutes with no change. At that point I pulled the battery and restarted in recovery mode.
For some reason, the phone would freeze or reboot when I tried to clear the cache directory. The log showed errors that it couldn't access that cache directory either.
To make a long story short, I tried to use ODIN to reinstall the recovery and it crashed half way through. There was a Windows error that ODIN has stopped working and my only option was to close the app.I left the phone for a few minutes but nothing was happening, so I pulled the battery.
Needless to say, now I don't get any activity on the screen. ODIN doesn't see the phone. When I plug the USB cable I get a QHSUSB_DLOAD device under "Other devices".
I do have the Qualicomm QHUSB drivers and a copy of QPST (v 2.7.323 from 2008), but I doubt that will help me much.
What do I do next? Is there any way to fix this? It's a Koodo phone, but I doubt that they'll take it as a warranty repair/swap as it's been unlocked so I can use it on Rogers.
Thanks for ANY help at all! (Even name calling!)
Well if you got $50 bucks check out mobiletechvides
Is.com they will JTAG it for you for around 50 bucks which is ur only option at this point or send it in for a warranty swap out

I should have mentioned that I have three of these phones, so there are two I can use to get stock images from, if I can figure out how.
I have connectivity to the phone using QPST... (screen capture attached).
Does anyone know if it's possible to use QPST to capture an image from a good phone?
I've tried to connect to COM8 with PuTTY, but it is unable to open a connection.
Well you're just soft bricked because you didn't wipe system before flashing the new ROM
Easy fix
Odin back to stock ROM (there's a thread in the roll up stickies in dev section)
Odin flash a recovery
Go to goo.im and search under devs gir ericwill and find his openrecovery folder and download twrp 2.4 or just Google search "twrp Hercules 2.5 goo"
Flash it in cwm
Reboot back into recovery
Click wipe
Click advance wipe
Check first 4 options (dalvik, data, system, cache)
Swipe to wipe at the bottom
Now flash your ROM followed by gapps and reboot.

Unfortunately, ODIN doesn't see the phone at all.
The phone shows up in the Windows Device Mangler as a Qualicomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008. (or QHSUSB_DLOAD before I loaded the Qualicomm drivers)
I will take a look at for the posts that you mention though.
Thanks!

Download Mode
I was reading this and i noticed u never said u anything about put ur phone in download mode have u tryed,
You can do that by pressing the Volume Down and Volume Up keys. Keep the buttons pressed and connect your phone to the computer via USB cable. Wait until Download Mode boots.
Just a thought im sure u already tried but it sounds like u had a little bit of life out of since it booted and froze, i recently bricked mine and could get it to do anything theres a guy on pm me ill send u his name jtag for 25$ and have done and back to u less than 7 days!!!:good:
Try opening kies on your computer and selecting emergency firmware recovery. It worked for me when something similar happened to me.

I cannot get ODIN to flash the stock rom... It stops at "SetupConnection.."
One thing to note, when I try to put the phone into download mode, the screen stays black. Device Mangler says "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM5)". ODIN does see the phone.
Readdownload the zip and let it flash

I'm not sure what you mean.
It sat at Setup Connection for an hour.
I've tried on a couple PC's, and using different cables and USB ports.
Is there anything else I can do to verify that the connection is going to work? Use a terminal on the COM port? ADB?
Thanks for the help guys!
Did you try kies? Open kies on your computer and select "emergency firmware recovery“. It will ask you to enter your serial number (take off the back cover of the phone to see the serial number).
That should get you back to stock. Worked for me when I was having the same problem.

...going for a warranty repair.
At this point I'm going to try for a warranty repair. I haven't had the phone too long and I'm hoping that they don't dig too far when they receive it from me.
Thanks guys!
I'm betting they toss them in a bin if they don't boot! Pretty sure they won't launch an investigation on every phone that gets sent in.
Its the ones that send them in rooted with a custom rom still on them and their volume button quit that get denied warrenty. Lol
