Install StartupManager from Google Play and Rescan Media Root, open StartupManager and go to system (middle row) and look for Media Storage and disable it. Then open Rescan Root once and close it. That`s it, Samsung media storage sync (also on boot) is now disabled and is taken over by Rescan. This should solve the problem. Problem also occured on the S3 and this how i solved it.

That's very cool, thanks so much.
I've done everything you told, but when I listen to some music watchdog gives me "mediaserver" process using from 6 to 10% of CPU.
Is this normal?
I had the same problem, but installed LBE, which has a boot-manager. I switched off all the samsung stuff that boots with the device, and the problem was fixed.

Could you please tell exaxctly which "samsung stuff" did you switched off?
And, can I use startup manager instead of LBE?
Thanks

Basically everything that had samsung in it, but also a lot of other stuff. Here's a screen of the stuff I think causes it:
http://i.imgur.com/3dCVf.png
But I also switched off a ****load of other apps I don't see the need in having boot up with the device, this is for example a part of it:
http://i.imgur.com/KJlkd.png
(btw I only use gmail, so e-mail app is not useful for me)
You might want to keep camera enabled though for faster launching.
Remember, all the stuff you disable at launch still works perfectly, you only have to click it before it starts.
I don't know about startup manager, I use LBE because it also does permission control.

Hi,
I'm still on non-rooted stock and I can't for the life of me figure out what's causing this wakelock. I reset the whole phone to factory defauls and closed all apps, still won't go away!
Please see ss attached
Any ideas?
Thank you!

If you have reset and it still happens, this points to perhaps something on your SD card.
I had this a while back before I rooted. A number of things can cause it, but this is what worked for me;
I had a music folder called 'Allsorts' which had LOADS of tracks and Power Amp tried downloading album art for the lot. Somehow mediascanner got stuck on one of these pictures. Once I deleted all the album art out of that folder, it stopped happening.
To quickly determine if this is something on your 'SD card' getting mediascanner stuck, put a .nomedia file in the root of your SD card and reboot your phone. See if the problem stops. If it does, you then just need to move this .nomedia file from the root into other folders to narrow down the location of the problem.
Failing that, backup everything on your SD card, and then reformat it. If it stops, move stuff back a bit at a time.
Only other things I can think of are;
Try turning off 'Sync Google Photos' & 'Sync Instant Upload' in your Google account sync settings.
or
Turn off 'Pocket Mode' in sound settings (always turn that off IMO - silly option)
or
Turn off 'Screen Lock Sound' in sound settings. (not sure about this one. Just read somewhere it caused someone wakelock troubles).
@wnp_79
Thank you for your elaborate and detailed response! It would appear the problem is indeed with some files on my sdcard. I'm trying the nomedia file on my music folders now. Thanks again!
On Google Now options...turn off from any screen.

same problem
I am having the same problem on a Nexus S. I have flashed tons of different ROMS before and this was never a problem. Weird that it comes up in a NEW version of Android. But I guess that's what offical updates are for...
Rename the folder containing your media. Use the scan app from before. I've always done that to fix this random issue

I have this issue since installing Jelly Bean too.
If you check processes using Watchdog or something similar you will see Android Media process hogging a lot of CPU...this will go on for over an hour for me sucking up my battery.
I've been trying to pin down if there is corrupt file. I've shut off Picasa & G+ syncing. I have cleared data for both Gallery & Media Storage.
Happens to me after every reboot.
Still searching for a solution to this.
happen to me as well n seeking for solution.
when i tried to look at apps\running, setting got force closed all the time...
rescan media not work for me too
If I have some time tomorrow, I will try doing a fastboot erase userdata or wiping the whole phone and then reinstalling JB from scratch.
My 1st JB install was the preview version BTW.

Hi Rich,
Wondering if you managed to pinpoint why your media process was doing that. I also have the same behavior with Jelly Bean, with my media process hogging my battery after I reset the phone, for like over an hour or so, and the phone getting pretty hot - and battery drained.
I wouldn't be very keen to wipe my phone, though...
I havent been able to pinpoint it yet.
I will probably have to resort to a factory reset unless someone has other suggestions to try.

After a backup, I did a Bootloader Lock and then Unlock to clear all my user data.
Rebooted into recovery and did a Factory Reset.
Copied all my pics back and its been fine, no crazy Media Scanner CPU hogging when I reboot.
The Factory Reset might not have been necessary but I was have some rom issues and had dirty flashed many times. My roms issues also cleared up( couldn't get Theme Chooser to run on CM10)
I posted this question in the correct thread for the ROM I'm using in my signature (also note I'm using the newest version of the KT747 kernel as well), but people are currently more interested in hearing themselves talk on that thread, calling people trolls when the "troll" is actually helping answer questions, and just waste space with non-development chit-chat.... So maybe asking it here will get an answer!
I'm getting a partial wakelock constantly from LPAPlayer, a low power audio player that supposedly gets installed or screwed up when you install AwesomeBeats, but I never had that installed and can't seem how to disable or fix the issue with LPAPlayer eating up the battery, making the CPU run at max while the screen is off....
Anyone got any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

I've been on this since about 2 days after it came out never had a problem. The all of a sudden it started 2 days ago. I haven't installed anything new and haven't made any substantial changes. The only media players I use are play and Pandora.

Just to add in to what Travis has been saying, and it all applies the same for me too, I just reflashed the device with the same ROM, but wiped everything first, including System.... Because these aren't official JB ROMs, I'm not spending too much time getting everything set up on the device right now, so when I wipe, I restore data from a previous backup, and while I'm sure that's not helping anything, there has to be a way to prevent LPAPlayer from using up so much battery!

Well one thing I know for sure is that we have the same exact nonofficial JB rom installed (lol) and that I do not have the LPAPlayer issue, nor could I find it installed. Travis says that he uses Google Play Music and Pandora, so maybe it has to do with one of the two. Try using Titanium and freezing these two apps and see if it fixes your battery drain.
I know it isn't Pandora, I don't use it or even have it installed on my phone.... I could see it having to do something with Google Music, I use that constantly while driving. Won't be in the car tomorrow so I'll freeze it tonight and see if anything gets better, one can only hope when no real solutions are being presented!
STILL having the issue, Pandora and GMusic are NOT the issue (as far as I can tell....)
Here's a guy having the same issues too, found that Awesome Beats was the recommendation, and never installed it either, still no resolution for him:
http://www.samsunggalaxys3forum.com...s3-help/7523-interesting-battery-problem.html
Looks like the only solution is to wipe and reinstall everything with TiBU, hoping that the issue isn't stuck in one of my user apps and just the data I'm restoring after every time I wipe....
EDIT - I MAY have found a solution! Those affected, please help me test this - those NOT affected, please check and see if your settings are different!

On there, it said to disable LPAPlayer, set lpa.decode=false in build.prop, under System, using Root Explorer, or similar. I like Root Explorer because when you select R/W at the top, press and hold on build.prop, select Open in Text Editor, you can hit the Menu button and Save and Exit while Root Explorer automatically saves the original as a backup, using .BAK. If you're unfamiliar with Root Explorer or need more instructions, let me know, I need others to test this OR see if your lpa.decode setting was already set to false! Mine WAS set to true before I edited it, rebooted, and now I'm testing to see if it works.... after 14 mins, I'm seeing a deep sleep of 5 mins so far, so it may have worked!!! There isn't any mention of any partial wakelocks from LPAPlayer right now either!

Also started noticing this issue on my Sprint GS3, while playing Google Music, as that is the only music player I have, and have not installed any other apps, like Beats, or the like. Via Betterbatterystats I would see that anytime I'd play/use Google Music, LPAPlayer would keep the phone awake, even if I forced closed the Google Music app. Only way to stop it from keeping the phone awake was to reboot my phone, which was a pain since I use it to stream music all day. Anyone know what LPAPlayer is for, where it's located? I can't find much info on it. I'm going to try the above and edit the build.prop entry, as mine was set to true, and report what I get! Thanks!

Yep, same issue I had too - someone must have edited the build.prop on us in a ROM or something to have that effect on different carrier's SGSIII's.... I've seen MUCH better battery life out of my phone since then, with the only wakelock coming in the form of Light Manager, but everyone who uses LightFlow / Light Manager for their LED notifications complain about poor battery life from wakelocks, so there's nothing I can do with that right now!
Glad I could help, definitely report back and let me know what you come up with when you change that setting and reboot!

I was getting wakelock from LPAPlayer too (on sprint gsIII). Yesterday was the first day i noticed the poor battery like. About two days ago for the first time, i installed lightflow just to check it out. I immediately uninstalled it cause i don't really have a use for the app. I just now looked in betterbatterystats and found it was LPAPlayer. Do you think that app is causing the issue then?

It's possible, but probably not likely.... I know I had Lightflow installed as well and uninstalled it to use Light Manager instead (Lightflow was causing a separate battery drain not associated with LPAPlayer, from what I understand), but I think that's just coincidence that we both had it installed at one point and it changed the settings to enable LPAPlayer....
I am/was having the same issue. I only saw LpaPlayer giving my phone a partial wake after using Google Play Music. I changed the build.prop as suggested and it looks like that fixed the problem. Thanks
sorry for bumping a month old thread but i've noticed this issue as well. Google music would also freeze up on me. Rather annoying. Let's see if editing build.prop fixes it

Well too be honest (too late now im now on custom rom omega) i doubt it works i noticed an other app vanished which was the clock app,
and since i sometimes use it to time something or just a simple alarm i noticed this today just before moving to the custom rom.
Something very wrong and crazy going on with the samsung stock rom especially since it even happened for him who didnt modify anything.
Hi,
I bought Tab S 8.4 recently (3 weeks ago).
I face two issues and I appreciate your help..
1- Toucwiz: it happens frequently after I restart my tablet to find the error message (Unfortunately, Touchwiz stopped working). When I press OK, the screen blanks and starts working fine. I tried resetting the tablet to factory settings, clearing cache, clearing Touchwiz application setting.
The problem goes for some time and comes back. it doesn't really impact the tablet function but it is a kind of irritating.
2- Battery drains: I used to have ipad mini, the battery life was about 5 to 6 days.
For the Tab S, it is maximum three days. taking into consideration that I am using the tablet for emails, browsing, and rarely lite games.
Please, let me know if you face these problems and if you know the fix.
Thanks,

1. Re-flash your device firmware with Odin. Many guides about on its use. Check sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com
2. The browsing time has been shown to be less than SOME other tablets but media play exceeding most others (including mini) of the same form factor. Don't know what users expect for such a thin device device with a very high resolution. There are far more pixels to push
There is also power saving mode and ultra power saving mode. You could also use auto brightness with lower setting.

Specifically for Tab S:
- (I don't use this one as to me it reduces the value of my tablet) : "Select adaptive display off and use basic color better battery life but sacrifice some color". This suggestion came at the beginning of August before at least one update which may have negated it's value.
- Settings:
- Increase the time between services being synced (GMail, Calender... Etc)
- Turn off syncing for any service you don't use
- Turn off Bluetooth if your not using it
- Turn off WiFi scanning once you have added your WiFi access point(s)
- uncheck WiFi remaining alive when tablet is asleep (sorry forgot the specific setting name)
- Anything you can tolerate that reduces screen brightness.
- Turn off auto brightness and control it manually
- Reduce the auto brightness value assuming you still want auto brightness
If that is still not enough then you can install a battery app which tracks "wakelocks" (apps that keep your app awake even when it is not being used). After analyzing that info you can uninstall the worst offenders. Sometimes the worst ones are part of the system or an essential app so you must put up with the drain. See this XDA post for a good battery analysing app which is free for XDA members.

The weird thing is that the Touchwiz error appears only at the restart. Then the tablet continues working fine.
it is less probable to happen when I restart the tablet after it is shut down, and more probable to happen when I restart it by command.
It is not stopping me from using the tablet, but it is some how irritating.

Not exactly, ... I downloaded the SW and planning to do it... was just asking if it really deserves?
one silly question... can it be a HW issue?
Thanks,

Not a silly question.
A lot will be cleared up if you go ahead. You're data should be OK, but always recommend to save it off device.

Problem appeared again... looks like it is related to some application.
I tried the safe mode and it works fine every time I restart the tablet in safe mode.
I downloaded Nova advanced launcher and it works fine so far...

You just need to remember what you did between then and now and narrow down the cause. ....

I found the trigger ... Or I think I did
I cleared the Touchwiz data and cache .. so it went to the default configuration. I then started adding my widgets and shortcuts one by one.
I figured out that the Touchwiz fault happens when I add a short cut of an application installed on the microSD card.
I moved all the applications from the microSD to the internal memory and now Touchwiz works fine.
Now going to the microSD. The microSD I have is Transcend cat 10. It should be quite fast, and it is actually fast (R/W). However, I recall some posts regarding Transcend in-compatibility with new Samsung devices.
I have Galaxy S5 as well... same Transcend type and works fine.... BUT ... There is a Samsung application called User's digest for Samsung (or you can find it in the name of Vitamin's for Samsung).. It has a feature to place some tests to the handset. Both Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Tab S show the microSD card test result as "Disconnected"! ... I didn't care that much on the S5 as it didn't cause any problem, but now I started to care after what happened with the Tab S.
I ordered Samsung 32GB cat 10 microSD... should arrive in a week... will let you know about my experience.
It's confirmed now the touchwiz problem while starting the tablet is triggered by microsd.
The transcend I was using was fake. I am using an original one now and I can sense the enhancement in the read speed, as well as no touchwiz problem anymore.
Thanks,
How do I reboot in safe mode in galaxy tab s t705?
