so i just flashed this new rom (infamous s3 v2.1) i really love this rom.
but the battery dies real fast..
i never turn on my wifi. i leave the standby thing for wifi on never.
i turn off basically everything except for my data.
i usually watch a lot of korean dramas and browse the web.
i was also wondering if flashing kernels would help increase my battery life and if so, how?
i really need help guys!
thanks for taking the time to look at this
For starters, turn on wifi whenever you can. Networ data uses a lot mire battery than wifi does. Wifi only uses excess battery when its constantly scanning for a connection. turn both off when not needed.
Also, any features you don't constantly use, turn off when not needed. Smart stay, auto brightness, auto sync, etc.

I use the cpu sleeper app which turns off one core when the screens off.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eugene373.cpu.sleep
Also Frosty Ics and JB roms get pretty great battery life.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah I don't have any of those on like smart stay or motion and anything else.

What is this "horrible battery life" you speak of? Maybe it isn't horrible, maybe it's just to you?

I'm new to the galaxy Nexus. I rooted it recently and put maddoggin's ROM onto it(Sprint). Also I have fh05 radios if this helps. I have tried a few different kernels. I noticed only when the screen is on is when it start its decline. I just took it off the charger at 100% at 1:30 now at 1:50 its at 85%. I really just want the jop40d stock kernel to give that a try but I can't find it. Someone please try to shine some light on this.

you gave us no screen shots or anything to even begin looking at the issue you may or may not be having.
What extra info do you think is needed? I gave the ROM radio and build I'm using.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
screen shots of your battery stats are pretty much required.
Where would the most useful stats come from? I have better battery stats installed. Would that be decent enough?

What's brightness set to? Are you oc? What kernel process percents. Need more info dood

40 minutes screen time and on LTE. Isn't that normal for that model?
I wish I knew what normal was
40 min of screen on time, lte enabled and still 66% left of battery. I think that's normal. Search the forum and u will find few threads about this.

I get around 1.5-2 hours of screen on time, LTE on all the time, no wifi and such...what kernel are you using with which i/o scheduler and governor are you running? Also, do a screen shot of running processes accessed through settings>apps>running processes.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 2
So lte is the culprit? I came from wimax (GSII)

I/O cfq
Governor: interactive (can't change it anyways. Won't let me)
And the kernel is on a screen shot the previous page. Also my processor doesn't pass 700mhz although its set for 1200mhz weird.

Holy crap! You have a lot of things running! Usually I only have three or four processes running! I can tell you for sure that the maps app burns a lot of battery in the background, and you need to shut that down and turn off location services! Also, you have the same media bug that I do that I haven't figured out how to stop...sorry I forgot which rom you're on, but on 4.1.2, I had a really go fix by running a certain gapps package, but on 4.2, I'm stuck and that's why I'm online lol...

Just flash Pure AOSP ROM.. I too faced this issue when earlier I flashed stock ROM over bigxie's ROM.ASOP ROMs are very fast and stock type.
I did most of everything I was told and its still draining. I'm even using WiFi now. I guess I will try a aosp ROM and I still would like the stock kernel
do anyone else have any other idea of what the problem is? i know this isnt normal. no one would have this phone is the batter only lasted 4-5 hrs like mine
Battery life was great but all of a sudden now I'm getting horrible battery life, now lasting only 4-5 hours. Based on BetteryBatteryStats, it seems i have a wakelock issue and phone never enters Deep Sleep. I've searched the internet for solutions and have tried several things
- uninstall Google Chrome
- disable autoscroll
- hard reset
- reformat SD card
- get rid of SD card
Im still having poor battery life and even when I turn off WiFi, mobile data, gps etc, phone still never enters Deep Sleep.
Here are some screen shots. Please help!!!
See below
Look at your data usage, good chance that's the originator of the wake lock. I had picasa do that on aosp and tw. It doesn't usually directly show up. But the data usage is how I found it. On tw smdexe can also cause a wake lock with no direct flag

Thanks for replying guys. So wakelocks arent the problem, its the data connection? How can I decrease the AWAKE TIME and get the phone to be able to re-enter deep sleep? How do I fix this data connection issue?
I've tried so many things and this has been incredibly frustrating - thanks for your help in advance and Happy New Year!

If your phone has low or no signal a lot, it'll eat through you're battery.
In your first screen shot... all that red under mobile network signal means NO signal. That's a lot of red.

More shots. All of that Awake Time amd battery discharge occurred overnight while I was asleep and not using the phone. In contrast, my wife's GS3 went from 100% to 98% over the same time period with a lot of Deep Sleep

GPS is on. This would be normal. Your phone constantly polls your location unless you turn it off. Having GPS on only worsens that effect but you get better location pings.

Battery life improved after keeping GPS off. I appreciate the tip. However, the phone still won't enter Deep Sleep. I am using DS Battery Saver which is supposed to force the OS into Deep Sleep while the screen is off but it's not doing it. See screenshots. Anyone know how I can get the phone to Deep Sleep?

I think it's your signal bud. I didn't see anything out of the norm for wakelocks with exception of suspend backoff but that could be anything. I see that your phone has no signal for 99% of your wake time. Since you're saying both your wife's phone and yours are the same I would charge both up, put yours in airplane mode but keep the wifi on and test em. That's the only thing off that I noticed. A few guys have been working hard for battery life on another thread here. I'll link it to ya if you want. That's what I would do anyway, just to rule it out. Your mmc detects are high too and I haven't been able to verify this but I think that has to do with accessing the external SD card.

Thanks for the info - I'll try airplane mode and adequate what happens - I'd greatly appreciate the link. I formatted the SD card and eventually got rid of it after realizing I didn't really need it

I really like how my settings are. Sync settings are minimal...but its been off the charger for 3.5 hours with moderate use and its at 76%....im looking for how to undervolt (not underclock) or any battery saving tweaks.
Also...im on synergy rom and cant change the setting so there is no LTE..why? And quck question...is there a key strock to get to recovery...new here

Turn off the Location access, and dim the screen as much as you like... I just got 36hrs with 3hr screen time with only those changes... To undervolt, you need to be running a custom kernel, and use a tool like SetCPU, Voltage Control, or KTweaker if the kernel is KT... To get into recovery, use the advanced power menu, or while it's off, Vol Up + Home + Power... Check your APN settings for LTE...
I've found that undervolting is a pain, and doesn't save me anymore battery than stock voltages... Mess around with it and decide...

I'm sure it has some sort of battery use, it's always looking for motion... Whether turning it off or not will help a noticeable amount, I'm really not sure, it's a TouchWiz feature, I haven't ran a TouchWiz ROM the entire life of my phone...
Any TouchWiz junkies out there who have noticed a difference turning it off?
find and eliminate wake locks. disable bloat apps. run a good light rom with battery saving kernal. turn off what you dont need. thats all really. if your battery is dying fast find whats keeping your phonw awake and do something about it. I can go to bed with phone at 100 and wake up 8 hours later at 99. also go to bed 50 and wake up 49 etc. you should expect the same. on 3g I get at least 5 hours of screen if im heavily using all day. but battery life is up to you. you want to be minimalist like me you can expect similar results.

You can dial *#0011# then hit Menu > Wi-Fi Settings and make sure the WiFi sleep policy is enabled. Every time your phone sleeps, WiFi is disabled and you have to reconnect, but it does help on battery life.

I dont think it does. uses battery to turn on and off the wifi. just leave it on. ny rom is wicked v8 and intergalactic 2.5 kernal. weird combo I guess. but it just works for now
I squeezed 7 hours display (18+ hours standby) on a single charge with auto brightness on and LTE and sync on all the time. Routinely I get 5+. I would say, get a good rom n kernel combination (only way to know is to try out).

I decided to check out a CPU monitor today...
I'm noticing that I'm getting major frame rate drops when my cores are all at < 30% utilization? Mainly noticing it when scrolling lists, notification bar toggle animation, Spotify, etc.
Are your Notes this sensitive?
My Quadrant score is usually around 7000. Running rooted/slightly debloated stock. My CPU usage generally looks okay. It's almost as if I have power saving on, but I don't.
