[Q] Password protects menu but not USB port, how to protect USB port? - HTC One X

Android 4.1.2
Password protects menu but not USB port, when plugged into PC you automaticaly have access to all files
In my opinion this is a major security issue. If the phone is stolen even without a password, the thief would have
acess to all pictures/ personnal files.

the only way would be encrypting the external memory but then i don't know if the phone will recognize that

I did see that option but I guess it only works if the phone was off as it says encrypt when phone is turned on.
Im surprised it hasn't come up since everyone is affected non?

Problem after forgotten the unlock pattern

Hi,
Yesterday I lock my phone with a pattern so I can get more "safe". But now I forgotten the pattern and I don't have data or wifi connection turn on on the phone.
I read that the best option is install a new ROM without wipe data in order to I can recover all phone data (because don't have SD Card, only a virtual SD Card that I create previous). If I made a hard reset is this virtual card remains?
If I need a ROM, how can I copy it into the phone? Plugging the phone on computer I can't access data maybe because the debug option or mass device is turn off.
Any suggestion?

i dunno, this story sounds fishy. You want to get past a lock screen that you dont know the pattern, you want to be sure u get all the data off it. it also cannot connect to any networks. sounds like its a stolen phone
What I'm telling is true and the phone wasn't stolen at all! I put a pattern that passes on all boarder points, but I don't remember where exactly point I started drag. I have more 3 attempts, but I now that after them, if I wrong I will need a solution.
After the final attempt a button will appear that says Forgot pattern? At that point you will need to enter the google account and password associated with that phone. This should close this topic. Of course if you do not know that info then we can safely assume this phone was found or stolen.
The phone is mine. The problem is that by default I have data and wifi turn off. If I can turn on of them on I will login into my google account, of course. If you know how, it will solve the problem.
open up the lock screen while it shows the pattern, hold down the power button and turn off airplane mode

The airplane mode is off. The problem is that I can't access the settings to turn on the data or wifi.
Your problem is quite unusual as very few ever turn off data AND wifi. You may have no choice but to call your carrier for help or to perform a hard reset and lose all data.

Connect phone to Mac / enable USB mode???

How do I connect my Sony Xperia Z1 compact to a mac? Back in my android days an Android phone could be simply used like an USB flash drive. You plug it in no matter what system and it will get recognized. I know you could toggle between USB mode and some other fancy mode. Now each time I connect my Xperia to my Mac I get „connected to PC- MTP Media Transfer Mode“ (shouldn’t it be MTM- I suppose the P might stand for protocol…never mind) but the phone won’t show up on the Mac under storage. I’ve already enabled USB Debugging under Developer Options because I assumed that would do the trick - nope.
So how can I use my android phone like a normal USB flash drive? I do NOT want to install Sony’s silly itunes rip off software.

Settings > XPERIA connectivity > USB connectivity > Change USB connection mode to Mass Storage Mode.
Works on my mac and also on Linux.

That's what I've been looking for BUT
"Only SD Card supported in mass storage mode. Internal storage not available in this mode. Continue?"
WHY????! This renders it pointless since I don't have any SD Card. Is this a Sony thing only or do all Android phones roll like this nowadys? Also I still don't understand WHY i can not access the internal storage? Why does everything have to be so complicated. Isn't there some hack or something to still access it?
So yeh I've set it to Mass Storage, connected it to my MAC and of course nothing shows up. Sigh. This simply isn't any fun at all.

Yeah - the hack is to hack that Mac into little pieces with an axe. LOL. Just kidding. I wonder if newer versions of OSX can recognize MTP? If so, are you able to update your Mac? Or, if you cannot... how about using bootcamp (or whatever the latest method is), install WinXP/7 or something on the mac and you will have the choice to boot into either windows or OSX whenever you turn it on.

Ah I'm sorry mate, I can't really think of a solution apart from giving Sony Bridge for Mac a go. You can drag and drop into internal storage. You don't need to import or sync media.
Dual booting with Windows is an option (the windows program is way better than the mac program) You can virtualise (VMbox is free) or just dual boot. Again it's a pretty drastic step to take in order to do something as simple as access internal storage! I personally have Arch Linux and OS X.
The Sony Bridge for mac has improved a lot. You don't need to do any syncing or anything, you can just drag and drop as if it is mounted like an external disk.

[Q] Can't move delete files on LG G3 from PC

Hello all, I've had this phone for a little over a month now and it never lets me do anything with the files from my work PC. It was giving me the issue on my laptop at home as well, but when I plugged it into the high speed USB port it worked, I can transfer files just fine. I have all of the drivers downloaded. I can see all the files, just can't put anything on my phone or delete anything from it. It says "filename could not be deleted. You do not have permission to delete this item".

Is your work PC something you have complete control over, or does your IT department lock it down? As an administrator, I can lock down USB devices on my network to prevent file copying, moving, deletion, etc. as a security measure. Is it possible your IT department did that?

It's very possible, yes. I didn't even consider that as an option because I do have certain admin privileges on my computer. I'm able to download things and make certain changes, whereas other people cannot. They can't even update their Skype without an admin pw. It's just annoying to have to do this stuff at home because my laptop is finicky and doesn't always work.

[Q] Encrpytion and USB data access

Hi everyone,
I've encrypted my HTC One M8 and I thought this would mean that plugging the phone in via USB would require a screen unlock. However I've just plugged my phone in to empty the internal storage and I can access all my photos/screenshots/camera data straight away..
I wanted to encrypt my phone to prevent a thief being able to see all of my photos in the event of a loss/theft. Why is this happening and is there any way to achieve this? Encryption seems pretty pointless if I can just see everything anyway..
Cheers guys.
My mistake, I realised I changed the screen lock settings so the device was unlocked when copying. Encryption works as expected.
Please can a mod delete at their soonest convenience, thanks!

If you can't access it using a PC you're boned.
You have the ability to use an SD card as a data drive, why didn't you?
All your critical data should be stored there for reloads and... this.
I did someone hacked my Gmail and reset my phone boom therewent everything

So the hardware's still good?
Check alternative 2nd email account if you have one to determine if it was unauthorized access took place.
Factory reload and change Google password after reload.
*You may have to reset Google account password if it was indeed hacked before you can regain device access. Try the original password first.
You get 3 tries before you get locked out for 72 hours.
If you got hacked, one or more of your devices was/is compromised. Always use a strong password and change it every few months.
Never use a "master" password for the Google account, it needs to be unique.
ALWAYS backup critical data on the PC and at least 2 more hdds that are physically and electronically isolated from the PC. If the your PC got hacked don't connect the backup hdds until it's clean.
I keep the laptop I use for backup offline and with no Google account on it for this very reason...
