Good to know. I am on a custom ROM, but i left my wife S3 on ICS, awaiting JB, and i was left in the dark on this.
She should be cool with JB and Nova launcher Prime.
Looks like they are pushing the update back to "early December" now :s

I recall that Rogers originally had the JellyBean update slated for "Late November"...I can't believe they had to push it even further back..

Yup, they just pushed it back today
Yup, delayed to December now. Who knows if they'll stick with that. I'm just waiting for some 4.2 ROM's and I'll probably just install one of those if it's stable enough. Tired of waiting on Rogers.

hey, what you should do is just flash the update directly through Odin, i had the exact same issue you're having. You can obtain the file from here http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3 Boot you're phone into download mode and select PDA then select the tar.md5 file extracted in the zip file. You will lose root which is okay, after you've flashed the new updated you can flash CWM recovery. Once you've flashed CWM recovery just use the cf auto root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963790
Use this recovery if you're using the Rogers S3 SGH-I747m
by the way make a full NANDROID backup before you do any of this.... just incase. You can do it with Samsung Galaxy S3 QCom ToolKit .

Hi:
re the above method, if I lose root by updating via Odin, how exactly do I flash CWM Recovery, wont CWM be gone once I lose root?
or are you just saying I will need to re-install CWM Recovery via ODIN after re-rooting?

Does anyone know of a wifi tether app that works with a rooted Sprint GS3 with Jellybean? Wifi Tether isn't working, even though it appears to. Tried every possible setting in the app.

OK...Thanks! Next question - Since this is for my wife and she REALLY loves ICS and JB, what custom ROM can I flash into her GS3 that will offer the same basic "usability", looks and feel as a stock phone, but also offer wifi tether? I heard that CM10 offers wifi tether built in, but looks a lot different.
Also, I've been looking for a link to revert her back to ICS from JB, but find too many messages about it in the forums... Any suggestions on a link that will give me this the quickest and easiest?
THANKS!

Any way to recover without wiping everything?

Hi guys;
I have a Sony Xperia ZL C6506 (locked bootloader). I have ClockworkMod Recovery installed, rooted as well. I'm interested in installing some custom ROMs on my phone. Unfortunately, most of the ROMs that are for my phone are for unlocked bootloaders; I bricked my phone once due to this (once trying to install Pac Man ROM).
My phone currently runs Android 4.2.2, there is an 4.3 update for it too, but I try updating it and it won't update; I get a "Could not install" message.
Any help and tips for my phone will be thanked.
Peace!

Then you cannot install truly Custom anything. Only derivatives of the Stock ROM. Check the forum "Android Development" for ROMs for locked bootloaders.
That's the price you pay for buying carrier phones.

You'd have to check out here to find ROM's for locked bootloaders. The post above me is a little to narrow, you can modify and customize multiple themes, systemui, home, xposed modules, etc. Difference between a locked and unlocked bootloader is that you can flash a kernel with an unlocked bootloader. Otherwise you can flash tons and tons of different roms that are available for whatever firmware you wish. I definitely recommend backing up your phone entirely before flashing almost anything, as well take a good time to read around what you can and cannot do. For example you can flash any .244 rom on a base stock .244 firmware, what you cannot do is flash a .423 rom on over to .244 or .253 cause then you'll have many issues ranging from bricking to apps and basic services, and receivers not functioning properly.

I got my phone for my 19th Birthday, which i go from my carrier.
Unfortunately, my parents will not let me buy a phone unlocked for some reason.
However. I did have a Samsung Galaxy Gio that I got from my carrier, and I could install custom ANYTHING onto it. It's weird that I can't do on my Xperia ZL Eh?

That's not 4.3, that's still 4.2 .
Anyway, the reason you can not update is that you have changed One of the system apps. Did you freeze anything or install a mod or anything else?
If you want to update use the pc, you'll have to root again.

there you go :good:... tried that rom, but when i tried to restore some apps with titanium it totally froze, im guessing because i was using before spyke´s555 CM10.1 Rom, and the apps that i had were basically for JB not ICS, so i downloaded stock ics, & rooted it, currently using lite kernel 1.2.2, and everythings running just awesome
Hope I helped you

Hello! I received a replacement for a TMO Samsung Galaxy S3 for a S3 LTE (. It did an auto upgrade to 4.3. Because that v is a POS I rooted 4.3 with Odin3 (v3.09) and root66 tar. NOW I find out that there is an upgrade to 4.4 for the S3 LTE (or all S3s I assume) and I am in a dilemma if I should back out of root; how difficult would that be; allow the 4.4 upgrade; and then re-root?

You now have an s3 LTE, aka sgh-i747?
I recommend getting back to stock and upgrade to 4.4.2 via ota updates. This is the slowest but safest method to install the updated boot loader and modem.
Once you are fully updated, you can flash a custom recovery and root by flashing supersu in recovery. Flashing a custom recovery will trip Knox and set the warranty bit to 1 and this will void your Samsung warranty.
Crap. I am lost. Newb Jr.
First, I have attached the image from About to verify the stats.
Second, can you tell me what your recommendation is to back out of root (having used Odin3 + root66 tar to stock?
I am hoping that once I return to stock, upgrade, I will root again using the same method. Let me know if that all makes sense.

sorry, double post. Don't see how I can delete the one without the quote.
Sorry, I re-read your post. You used to have an LTE s3 (sgh-i747) and now have an T999. I guess I was too tired when I read your post.
I'm not sure that there is anything beyond 4.3 for the T999. The latest for the s3 LTE is 4.4.2.
Even T-Mbile's Note 2 is stuck on 4.3 while other Note 2 carriers have moved to 4.4.2.
My current device is the LTE that replaced the S3 (not LTE). The (HUGE, sorry) image of the About is my current device.

I believe all s3s carried by T-Mobile, AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Videotron, etc. are LTE-capable.
If your phone is the T-mobile version of the s3, I don't think there is a 4.4.2 update or stock ROM for the phone.
My carrier is TMO - there is the S3 T999 (not LTE capable) and there is an S3 T999L (LTE). I updated to Jelly Bean / 4.3, then rooted with Odin (mainly to manage bloatware, pre-installed, etc.) So if I understand you correctly, you do not believe that Kit Kat is even available for the S3 T999L? I checked for a software update through the device and received the message that "since my phone had been altered, the software update will not install." Understand why I would receive that message, however, I made the assumption that 4.4 must be the update. If so, I would back out of root, upgrade to 4.4 - re-root.
If you are saying that 4.4 is NOT available for my phone, then I will keep my device rooted over 4.3

This is the latest firmware for your phone from sammobile.com: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/35794/T999LUVUBNF4_T999LTMBBNF4_TMB/
It was released in June 2014. The mk4 firmware on your phone was released in December 2013.
If you think there is a Kit Kat update, you could use Odin to flash back to stock mk4 firmware and run the OTA updates which should take you to at least NF4 firmware.
Thanks, @audit13!
