Not necessarily with root, just update your stock 2.3 to ICS 4.0.4, in the development thread you can find the stock ICS, and the rooted one as well... Theres also some ROMS for ICS :good:

there you go :good:... tried that rom, but when i tried to restore some apps with titanium it totally froze, im guessing because i was using before spyke´s555 CM10.1 Rom, and the apps that i had were basically for JB not ICS, so i downloaded stock ics, & rooted it, currently using lite kernel 1.2.2, and everythings running just awesome
Hope I helped you
I installed and used BBM for maybe a week. It just didn't have the same experience from my old Curve 8900 days .

Wait, you're saying it lets you flash this non Motorola signed update.zip from stock recovery in the Chinese ROM?
If that's the case... Couldn't you just prepare an update.zip that adds root privileges, and flash it the same way?

I was just thinking the exact same thing!
All you chinese XDA'ers now have a new mission: Track down the source of that update.zip!
It's probably come from Motorola.

Yep... probably. But why would they first send out a stripped/de-googled (read: crippled) firmware, and then post the update.zip?
Can anyone try and create another update.zip that will flash successfully on this ROM? If so then it opens up mega possibilities.
If this is truly signed by Motorola, maybe it's because Google isn't on good terms with the Chinese government, so Motorola created a backdoor way to get Google Apps on the phone.

but with android robot. I didn't try this yet because I don't know if its normal.
It's ok? I will have the recovery in this rom?
Edit: The lower right corner... I read it today, and is one of the oldest defy thread...
this doesn't work for the rooted version of the 2.2 Chinese rom
Will this update work on device sold in China,PRC?
I got it directly from retailer with an official 2.2 rom inside.Enough tolerance to Moto adware.Want to blow them away and install a fully functional google app setting.
P.S:
1.What does the 2.51 or so for the roms mean?Don't think that's calling the rom, since 2.3 hasn't arrived yet.Affraid of bricking my device,I didn't attempt flashing blindly.
2.Anyone seeks luck with CM mod for Defy?Raised as a CM fan.
Completely stock, except for the addition of busybox and su. CWM flashable. Does not revert to S-ON or replace radio OR replace recovery.

If I'm currently running the 2.16.531.3 (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211143) do I need to wipe data?
Happy to see a stock ROM again. Hoping this can give me the battery life that it should have.
Two issues: I keep getting android.process.media crashing - appears to stop when I receive a notification. Or go to change notification sounds / change volume from the Settings menu.
And two: I have a voicemail sitting there that doesn't exist. The icon won't go away either.

No overclocking with this stock ROM. If you want OC, check out Virtuous G-Lite. That's stock with OC capabilities. This is vanilla Gingerbread. And trackpad wake is not an option. At least not yet.
Hi Guys,
Just a few questions..
1. What ROM can you recommend to install? Currently on Galaxy Nexus GSM 4.0.2
ICL53F.I9250XWLK2
2. Same thing as ROM..
3. What are the other things that I need to customize my Nexus?
TIA

No, i'm using gallimaufry. I'm surprised too, I didn't expect such a high score
Check my sig to make sure you're installing the roms correctly.
Post two will detail it.
A "stock" camera is the camera that comes pre-installed. Not one from the play store.
I'm on AOKP, and can confirm no such issue.
I think my camera started malfunctioning <didn't save images/videos> when I wipe data due to I forgot my screen lock pattern <yes, I forgot! WTH>. Then, I flash AOKP b29 to see if it will solved my dilemma but it didn't. Last resort was, flash original stock ROM from Google website. Now, I am back to stock ROM.
@Jubakuba: I follow your procedure before, but when I tried to re-install Titanium Backup <free> to restore apps, it didn't succeed and prompts error which is something like code:32.
It seems that i cant overclclock I have root access and all but I can't over clock it says Max 1200mhz can't go higher....

just flash the kernels through your custom recovery, and your updated roms too. you dont have to fastboot them, unless you really want to. and with that custom recovery, you can make nandroid backups, backups of the whole system with all your data, just in case you mess something up.

OK...Thanks! Next question - Since this is for my wife and she REALLY loves ICS and JB, what custom ROM can I flash into her GS3 that will offer the same basic "usability", looks and feel as a stock phone, but also offer wifi tether? I heard that CM10 offers wifi tether built in, but looks a lot different.
Also, I've been looking for a link to revert her back to ICS from JB, but find too many messages about it in the forums... Any suggestions on a link that will give me this the quickest and easiest?
THANKS!
