I have a fascinate, but I've been thinking about buying an incredible 2, and give my fascinate to my brother..
but I have a few questions:
how well does the incredible 2 support custom roms [cyanogenmod]? Does it have stable CM10? and will it get cm11? I'm guessing it has an unlocked bootloader, right?
The second, what is faster, the Hummingbird [fascinate] or the Snapdragon [Inc 2]?
third would be any other advice about this phone, anything I might want to know before getting it.
Thanks!

Buying off craigslist.
It handles roms pretty well. I haven't had any problems, it has a few cm10 ROMs and on not sure about 11 due to the lack of kernel source but if its a good deal of would take it.

The Inc 2 hasn't received the update to ics, which is supposedly just sitting at Verizon. Therefore there is no source for kernels/roms in order to build 100% stable 4.0+ ROMs.

because of the locked bootloaders?
honestly they are very similar phones
if you prefer aosp, the fascinate is a better choice than the inc2 though, simply because of teamhacksung's porting of kernel 3.xx
if you want something different while you wait for a newer phone to come out, you might like the switch

I can't really address the first part of the question, but my Fascinate was replaced with the Droid Incredible 2 when I had problems with my replacement Fascinate.
The Inc 2 has a front-facing camera and an 8MP rear camera (Fascinate had 5MP) but only 1GB of internal storage (Fascinate had 2GBs). The display also isn't as clear in sunlight, even with brightness up, on the Inc 2. Also, it takes about 5 minutes to get beyond the bootloader screen on the Inc 2. But the HTC apps/widgets are better than some of the Fascinate apps. Also, if you love Swype, you'll have to find an alternative.
In terms of the speed of the phone, they're very similar (and you really won't be able to discern a difference), but the Inc 2 clocks slightly faster on benchmark tests at this site. androidbenchmark.net/passmark_chart.html
And you've already mentioned the locked bootloader issue if you want to root without letting them know you're doing that.
All in all though, they're very comparable. The only reasons I could see for someone wanting an Inc 2 over a Fascinate would be for the front-facing camera or for the global ready feature. If neither are a major perk for you, then you might be better off saving your money and upgrading your phone to something like a Galaxy Nexus phone or better. But that's just my opinion. I'm sure others might disagree.

First off, I ended up getting a rezound, because a guy was selling both, and I asked if he had the inc 2, he said no just the rezound. Got it for $120, good condition.
So anyway I wanted to point out, the main reason I considered the incredible 2 was because I hate PenTile pixel arrangement.
I took a look at the 800*480 LCD display of the original incredible, and was like "wow,I really hate pentile, because this screen is so UN-pixelated!"
Anyway, the rezound has an amazing screen, so I'm happy with it (besides the seemingly short battery life)

no, when I saw the Inc. screen, I couldn't believe how un-pixelated it was, being the same resolution [800x480]. And then I looked at my fascinate again, and it was way more pixelated.

I said I ended up getting a rezound instead (even though 4g phones on my network PagePlus are not /supposed/ to work, had to flash it myself), and I paid $120 for the rezound. But I was looking to get a inc 2 for around $50, I found 2 at that price, one was 2 hrs each way (to far) and the other was sold. The one that was sold also had a rezound, so that's why I got it--wasn't looking for it.

got to agree. does seem a bit quiet. i am keeping both (well, the inc goes to the daughter but i will keep tweaking it for her) so i want the devs to keep working on the inc.
It's probably temporary, the Inc community will last for a while.

Recently (as in a few days ago) coming from an Eris, which was 'end-of-life' in the middle of last year, and then received Gingerbread almost instantaneously after it was released to the public thanks to our fine devs here at XDA, I highly doubt the DInc will die out any time soon. This phone has way too much potential.
I expert it do die down in time, but the CM machine will keep chugging. Honestly, so long as Cyanogen has a DInc ROM, I'll be content. I use launcher pro, and prefer stock android over anything else, so not having new versions of sense isn't a big deal to me. Sometimes I like to jump on the MIUI train, but I always end up back with Cyanogen. They always support their phones so well, I imagine development for cm will continue long past the DInc's shelf-life.
I think even if it does dwindle, it will only be minor. As long as we have CM and a good maintaner we should always have something new and better to throw on our phones. The only thing is I've always wanted to see AOSP roms with tv-out but I see very little future in anyone dev that now that interest in it has died down.
I have been tryin z roms lately with very good success, and their cameras are the bomb. Aosp is nice an smooth, but i like the option to switch atound alot, plus cm camera just isnt that good. Im runnin miui gb now, with zero issues, kinda shox me for a first release just how good this rom is. I would love to see gb sense though just to have it.

I just don't see the rom being much better granted the new Sense might be cool to look at.
DINC // CM7 RC2 // SLAYHER#9
I may be completely wrong in saying this but i think the tb is actually going to increase the amount of dev on the dinc. When you look at the evo and dinc there are roms that run on both. From what ive heard of the tb its basically a evo just a lil bit better. So as soon as a good way is made for easy transfer of rom from tb to dinc or to evo we will have more options on the dinc. Plus as soon as the problems are sorted out of how to get tb roms and code to run on the dinc we will be getting more updates to stock releases.

You may in fact be alone here.. I had a Samsung Fascinate and if it wasn't for the development community I would have been completely turned off from the Droid system.. I thanked the Droid God's when my Fascinate crapped itself and I was able to get a DINC2 for a replacement.. Almost made me switch to an iPhone.. Sends chills down my spine.. $0.02 !!
its probably never gonna happen touchwiz is heavily tied into the framework much like sense is. while a few Samsung phones have a sense port they are far from fully functional. I imagine it would be the same the other way around. not saying it can't be done but I believe it would be much more trouble than its worth

I'd personally like a 3.8' screen. But what can ya do. They seem to actually be getting bigger. 4.65' for a phone is just crazy to me.

Well considering the fact that the new Galaxy S2 has neon support it actually might be possible. It would have to be a full RUU type of ROM because the framework would have to be totally changed. Id say its possible though.

Its not really downgrading your phone its just a different UI. And technically Touchwiz is probably faster considering it doesnt have near the bloat and is a lot closer to AOSP than Sense is.
So, I have been eyeing this phone as well as Samsung phones in general for quite some time. I have to say, you guys have been more the patient in your wait for an official ICS release. This kind of delay doesn't fly for HTC users... and from what I am seeing, the HTC EVO 3D will likely release ICS before this phone... which is very surprising to me. But the most surprising thing is that there is no animosity over here about that.
You guys impress me.
Well the leaks we have received are definitely stable enough to hold us over. The majority of us are waiting for the kernel source to be released!
2 different companies doing the same kind of work. Nothing says one will beat the other. The job is done when its done.
Ive had ICS on this since the day I got the phone. Basically used an upgrade from another line I had so I could get the hell away from Evo3D. I was always an HTC fanboy but that device is the biggest POS I've ever had the pleasure of owning. And went through 4 of them (Had since launch). I own both phones. Until the recent virgin mobile leak for the Evo 3D, the Evo didn't even have a decently working ICS build. For the longest time the dual camera setup prevented working cameras in any ICS build and even to this day there isn't a single AOSP rom that isn't without major missing features.
The E4GT was much better off than the Evo 3D for the past few months and to be honest it still is since the only 100% functioning ICS build on the Evo right now is sense 3.6 based which just doesn't compare to sense 4.0. Yes official ICS may release first for the Evo, this will indeed greatly improve the phones ****ty original sense 3.0 gingerbread setup but it will still only be sense 3.6. Yuck.
Trust me, I've got no reason to hate on the Evo, I've always been an HTC guy and own an Evo 3D afterall.

I've been running ICS since February on the e4gt, but to be honest, I really don't find a big difference between it and gingerbread. Really just incremental upgrades. So, I really don't understand the huge clamor for ICS from the user side, when it's more of a boon for Google and the manufacturers who can use a single release on both their phones and their tablets.

The camera is making me want S3. And I also wouldn't switch over if there wasn't a good AOKP/CM10 ROM for the phone. I will likely get the S3, and then that same day install AOKP or CM10.

Trying to get back on topic...
I had a Galaxy Nexus for a couple months on Verizon before switching to AT&T and getting the GS3. I figured if I didn't like it I could sell it and buy the GSM Nexus off contract. So far I'm happy with it. The two phones seem to perform about the same for me. The GS3 has a slightly faster processor and more RAM, but I think the difference between stock Android and TouchWiz balances out the better specs. I fully expected to flash an AOSP ROM shortly after getting the phone, but I actually like some of the feature of TouchWiz such as the quick SMS after hanging up from a call (I've always thought voicemail was silly). Battery life has been about the same, possibly a little better on the GS3. I'm assuming the larger battery is balanced out by having more processes running on the phone.
Overall, I'm happy with the decision to switch to the S3 instead of getting another Nexus. I love the inclusion of an SD card slot plus the larger screen. The only thing I don't like is the decision to use a physical home button. I'm fine with going with capacitive buttons instead of the navigation bar, but I don't like having a physical button apart from the power/volume. It's obviously not a big enough issue to make me regret the phone.

You forgot the camera. The difference is huge. There are some things I of course miss from my Nexus. But overall, the GS3 is the better choice for me.
i miss my nexus sometimes but i love my galaxy s3 and the camera is amazing on it compared to the nexus i just wish more ROMS would get released already for s3 thats why i missing my nexus i was a serious crackflasher lol
My S3 should be coming tomorrow. Really excited for it! I'm not a big fan of touchwiz tho and I really enjoy using Google Now and Jelly Bean. Do you think I should go straight to flashing aosp or should I hold off for something more stable?

Depends on if you can go without Bluetooth, and Camera and the other random things that may happen in your experience with it. But the new touch wiz isn't that bad so you may be able to deal until something stable drops.

I've honestly loved my TW experience so far. Super smooth, the JB previews still need work in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, the devs do great work with CM10 and JB AOKP

Yes you guys are right. I flashed aokp today and its great, but not as smooth as on my Nexus. That'll get fixed right? I imagine so. I guess I'll go back to touchwiz and see how it is. Tho I really like Google Now. That's prolly the only thing I would really miss.

You could try this

Google Now on ICS. However, I find it doesnt always work or work very well. Worth a shot though.
Thanks guys! I'll be getting a SGS3 soon and my ROMS are coming with me

+1 to this......?
Sounds like an open thread on greed form thoughts about what people like or didn't like between the first and second generation flagships. Now if youwere trying to be obtuse about WhY the need for such a thread, it may have been easier to just type those exact words... I kind of like putting all of those comparisons in one thread for those still on the fence about sticking with LG.... The OG can be had in secondary markets for under a Benjie and it's still a more than capable phone for what we do daily...

No, I figured that was what it was about just thought it was a weird way of going about it. As for which one is better, the G2 would win for most people based on specs alone. However, I'd still choose the lgog for one major reason, developer support. This isn't a concern for your casual/standard smartphone user. G2 will catch up eventually I think, but I love this forum, just a bunch of great, helpful people and a ton of support.
Also, I got my lgog for $1.00 almost 6 months ago from Best Buy because I was due for an upgrade and that was the sale.
And while the G2 is impressive on the spec front, I'd still take a Nexus5 over it, again, because of developer support. The only thing I'd really miss is the camera app and extra megapixels.

Lol that's why it confused me a bit because you started it but didn't give any details on your opinion besides the thread title.
I don't see myself getting rid of the lgog anytime soon. The communtiy is just too awesome.

Oh I agree, I'm probably going to cry when I go to get my upgrade, my mother has the LG G2 and father with the HTC One so I feel left out but this device and the amazing developers we have is what brought me to this device. I love it!

I've been putzing around with an HTC one since I dropped and cracked the screen on my OG..sense is not bad but I'm really disappointed with camera options...quality isn't health as bad as they say but options are junk compared to LG...I'm snatching the wife's g2 for a couple of weeks to see if it's worth just getting the OG fixed and sticking with that ...the S4 processor really holds up against these newer snapdragons in real world application, I don't care what the bench arms say

Yeah I have no experience with the the S4, but trust me, the lgog is worth it. I feel blessed to be a part of this community. That said - have fun with that G2!!!! And if you get your lgog fixed, we will be here waiting to embrace you into the fold!
Tbh, i like lg phones, but nothing is stable/fast enough on this phone besides stock. I mean, my evo shift lived wayyyy beyond it's time, and everything was super stable. The OG just doesn't handle aosp well, and although i love stock, i like having a stable version of the latest aosp too. I mean the 4.3 is more stable on my shift ( lags more, but is stable). The general point of aosp is to get better battery life and performance, and this phone ALWAYS has worse battery on aosp and performance equals stock only on certain roms for certain tasks( fyi i know its the phone not devs). If i was going to go anywhere, it would be back to HTC until LG opens up, as development has always been stellar on those phones, even before htc opened up.

Have you tried vanir?

I tried Vanir and liked it besides getting ok battery life and not being able to record Vines, Snapchat video, and minor things that never work unless I'm on stock.

@JESUSARIUS REX
The newer CM11 builds 1/28< have been near flawless for me. May want to give CM11 at least one more chance since sources for our device was updated recently. I generally find myself crawling back to CM11 whenever I try other roms for one reason or another. Previous CM11 builds gave me sleep of death but past few builds have been fine lately(or maybe it was official facebook causing it?)

Ive actually very happy with the state of cm11. But its still not (officially) finished, so it has too many bugs for me. Thats why i brought up 4.3 ie cm10.2. All 4.3 finished aosp roms are always worse than stock as far stability and performance, and the fact is, aosp is supposed to be faster. I game, use flash, watch a lot of videos and use my phone heavily, so i need battery life AND performane, not one or the other. Stock based is the only way i can get through a day.

+1 on the community.
Don't know what I'd do if the lgog died-- doesn't look like Sprint has them anymore. G2 is a little bigger not so pocket sized anymore.
Guess I'll hang onto my upgrade for awhile.
I definitely prefer the LGOG over the G2. Back when my OG broke, I almost got another one until I saw the drop in price on the OG Pro and jumped for it. The G2 has horrid battery life. My grandmother had one for a few days and returned it because she had to charge it twice a day, not including a nightly charge. Definitely missing the dev support over here, though. So many more options ROM and kernel wise. Hell, we just received our first custom kernel and it's not exactly user friendly lol. The only real difference between the OGP and OG is the screen, chipset, and a removable battery (currently using a 9300mAh ZL). Although the OGP can only handle up to 1.89GHz, same as the OG, as I see you guys now have an OC kernel. In my eyes, the E970 is still the better device.

You lost me...was your complaint against the G2 or the G Pro ? By all accconts I've heard the G2 gets amazing battery life. I'm returning the HTC today and activating the G2 so I'll be able to make comparisons tto the One the G2 and the OG after a few weeks of play. I can say, after a few weeks with the One that I will honestly miss that damned BlinkFeed.

I hear the G2 gets amazing battery life as well but the best battery stats Ive heard about on the G2 were 17-23 hours. My stock Lgog gets 24-30 hours on a full charge. However both of my roomates have an lgog and they have very different experiences, nowhere near my experience - but I tinker with it daily - they are computer illiterate. Using viper kernel, undervolting a few clicks and using wakelock detector with greenify has given my lgog unheard of battery life. Again, this is on stock however - I too have had the most stable and best performance on stock/stock based. Vanir in particular seemed smoother and faster tbh, but battery life was no where near as good. That being said, a lot of these are still in it's infancy imo and just keep getting better. The lgog is a sensitive phone from everything Ive read/experienced but the devs we have continue to do amazing and dedicated work so I just keep my backup and continue flashing/playing with new things as they come.
Coming from an HTC EVO 4G, I feel like the lgog itself is a bit unstable. It's like what Lewis Black says about general rules of health - what's good for one of us may kill another, lol - that sums up the lgog for me. But thanks to either my constant tweaking or just dumb luck, I love this damn phone so much more than my old EVO.

Yeah I was confused about whether or not you were talking about the G2 or the G pro, e980 is deifnitely the g pro - but you may have been talking about both and it came out funny - it happens. I was gonna say one thing about the G2 though - atleast they are getting official nightly 4.4 AOKP builds.
