Hi there. I have been thinking, if there is android 2.4 rom for HTC Desire. I am using cyanogen mod 7 (2.3.3) and I am satisfied with it, but I want the latest one. And also is there any stable release of honeycomb around there?

The simple answer for both questions is "No".
2.3 is the latest, 2.4 probably won't be out sometime. If it were you'd see it in the dev section.
Honeycomb is for tablets. If you want it, buy a tablet. There are devs working on porting it to the Desire, but to be honest, I don't see the point.
2.4 is 2.3 for dual core phones (not desire) 3.0 is 2.3 for tablet both are pointless on desire you would notice no difference to 2.3

Probable, 2.4 will be a first implementation of some of the 3.0 features to phones, not only for dual core phones!! Im pretty sure that HTC will release a 2.4 for Desire.

Looks to me like thats pure assumption. 2.3 is not 3.0.
Neither is 2.4 2.3 for dual cores.
It is speculated that 2.4 will support dual core phones.
However there is nothing officially stating any of the above, so I'm not sure where this info of yours comes from.
3.0 was built from scratch purely for tablets, it has absolutely nothing to do with any previous version.

it is possible to flash the honeycomb port to your desire if you desperatelty want 2 test it al though allotta features wont work. but if u r in it just to get a look at honeycomb, give her a try

Where do you get this from? It's certainly not built from scratch. A couple of devs even think that the reason Google is not releasing the source code of 3.0 is because it's just a bunch of hacks.
2.3 and 2.4 are so similar that some manufacturers don't bother differentiating between them it's mainly sn update for developers and compatibility with 3.0 which is simply for larger screens e.g. ui changes and modified api's
Afaik Google renamed version 2.4 you saw on a device on mwc in Barcelona to 2.3.3 because there were too little changes from the first release of gingerbread on the nexus s to "2.4"

Engadget claimed HTC were describing ll their phones as 2.3 when some actually run a version normally referred to as 2.4 they said this was to avoid confusion, personally i would have called them all 2.4

2.4 is nothing more than 2.3 with dual-core support. And it isn't out yet.
Im sure we will get an icecream port which is just like honeycomb for phones.

Right, Q4 huh... so that's end of the year. Then add a few months of delays and small scale release, that's mid 2012. Then add a year on that for motorola being slowpokes with new releases.... that's mid 2013. I don't know about you, but as much as I love my defy I'll probably be having a new phone around then rather than getting excited over what will at that point already be old news.

I dont expect an official version of ice cream for my defy, Just hope Quarx or some other developer would be able to port i.. I'm sure my defy would be compatible for ice cream as well..

Man you said the right situation in motorola process , BUT even if they didn't release it for defy , they might unlock the bootloader, like samsung galaxy S2.

Ok so maybe Motorola will launch a new Defy. This time more powerful. So we will buy it and have that with running Android 4 and this one as an old phone with CM version of the new Android tweaked for it.
I personally use 2 phones. Primary smartphone Defy and secondly a phone only Nokia (no camera, radio, internet). But i would like using 2 smartphones. Actually that is the future. So in my case i can wait for a Defy2 and than keep this as well
Keep in mind that a smartphone's life is somewhere between 2-4 years. Battery/hardware and software wise . But who knows the Defy can prove even more resistant ....

The current fragmentation issue has nothing to do with Tablet and Handset form factors. I understood fragmentation is about manufacturers putting too much layers on top of OS to make their own version of Android i.e. Sense, TouchWhiz, Motorla, and so on.
User experience is a science, now imagine how much damage these manufacturers do to an OS that no one would want to learn how to use them. That is why many people would want to use handsets from the same manufacturer. Android introduced a new market and after few years everyone involved realising the cons and pros of it as no one had the experience working in such market model before.
My prediction is... Most manufacturers will give up putting their own layers for three main reasons:
1. Manufactures eventually can't catch up with the progress of Android's development and it would become a complex and expensive process to have.
2. The cost of hardware will significantly will be reduced, that means smaller manufactures giving stock Android start stealing market from the big boys.
3. Future Android versions would become rich in user experience that the cost of putting layers on top of already a rich interface is no longer justifiable.
and hopefully with this, release of OS will be much faster due to the more vanilla usage of Android instead of each company spending time and money on 'fragmenting' the OS....and devs like the MIUI and CM guys (plus all the other solo devs) can start porting it over much faster and easier.....and leave the fragmenting and customising to the community!

I don't think T-Mobile US Defy owners will ever see an official Gingerbread update, or anyone else for that matter.
Why would Motorola put one out when Defy+ is here? Defy team was moved to working on Defy+ long ago, that's why we still have a buggy official Froyo. They're just not working on Defy any longer.
They re-released the Defy calling it a Defy+ for the sake of a Gingerbread update. What makes you think they wont do the same for ICS. And ofcourse the Defy wont even get Gingerbread forget ICS.

It would be nice to get the update. Rumor has it ICS has great Memory Management which increase the battery life. I read somewhere On Moto Xoom it had a battery life of 70hours.

i heard the xperia nozomi (se 2012 flagship) would be release on march 2012, and will have ICS. so i think ICS will come out before that. maybe by the end of the year, or on christmas
but, i'm still not sure if our lovely arc will get ICS update too

Well, according to this source a Sony Ericsson representative was quick to reply saying that all 2011 Xperia models will receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update. The quote was quickly retracted to an official statement of:
"When it comes to future platforms of the Android OS, we will make them available to consumers in a timely manner, as long as they improve the user experience and are viable from a hardware point of view."
I'd say Ice Cream Sandwich will greatly improve the user experience, and should be working fine on single-core processors as Android hasn't fully migrated to the dual-core world yet. Good chance?
As the Arc S is about to be released running 2.3.4 I would be amazed if it did not get bumped up to ICS. I mean that would be really bad of SE not to update that phone. I can't imagine it would take one of the talanted devs on here very long to port an Arc S 4.0 ROM to the Arc even if SE do not officialy update. So we will get it. Well, thats my opinion anyway.
Ice cream shud be too heavy for the 1GHz processor like Arc.. except the DoomLord had succesfully make the kernel overclock perfectly gonna be awesome !

Agreed - dunno where everyone gets this idea that each release of android gets slower - it actually keeps getting faster.
It does however tend to get larger with every release, so the limiting factor tends to be availability of internal storage - and even this only becomes an issue when large bloated UIs are bolted onto the OS (e.g. HTC sense on the Desire).

Hey guys I have a question for you users of the GN... have any of you went from a RAZR to it? How does everything work? I know it has ICS and I am dying to get it on my RAZR, but I was just wondering if you guys can help me decide on which phone to either keep or if i should get the GN?
I own both, I prefer the gnex, much much better development support, and IMO more fun to use.

The GNex is much more hacker friendly which allows you to work with the OS of the phone. Motorola has a reputation of locking their phones down like fort knox so you cant mess with the internals.
So what are some good things about like rooting and roms? Like I said.. NOOB

One way to look at it is when Google builds Android they build it for the Nexus models. Then they release the code, the other manufactures then modify the code to work with their hardware.
Now since you are on the Verizon version they modify google's code for their network so you would not have the 100% pure code, only about 98%. It would be purer than Motorola's build.

Rooting (completely different from jail-breaking), allows the user to run super user commands on their cell phone. Super user commands and apps generally have much more access to system files, allowing for overclocking (if the kernel supports it), free wifi tethering, and so on. Unlocking the bootloader allows for flashing custom ROMs on the device. Flashing can be done on a locked device, but no kernels (hence no overclocking) can be flashed. This also causes custom ROMs without their own kernel to generally be less stable than those for an unlocked bootloader device. Rooting is necessary for any Android power user, though a bootloader unlock may not always be necessary. Custom kernels often provide massive boosts to performance and add new features, so it is strongly recommended.

Rooting gives you admin access to your phone so you can do whatever you want. We'd never buy a computer without admin access, should be same on a phone.

I have both as of this minute and I will sell one of them soon. I prefer the gnex but damn does it poor signal compared to my razor.
I don't even have service on my gnex in areas that I have 2 bars on my razor.
I just flashed leaked radios on my gnex and it didn't help. I only use 3g as no 4g at home yet.
I will prob keep the gnex though and hope for a signal fix cause the gnex is faster and just a nicer phone IMO.

The Nexus line is Google's own idea of what an Android device should be; they are the ONLY handsets that are supported directly by Google. Consequently, Nexus phones have an Apple-like software support cycle (say what you want about Apple, the 3GS got iOS 5 before my Droid Charge even got Gingerbread) and huge dev support. Keep in mind that a Nexus phone is never designed to push the bleeding edge; it may have some neat new features, but they're never designed to be powerhouses (some say the N1 was, but IMO it was just in the right place at the right time). A Nexus device is the bone stock Android experience, an exemplar to the rest of the manufacturers on just what an Android device should be.
To summarize:
1.) The absolute best official software support you can get in the Android world, and among the best 3rd party dev support. While some devices released this year will be lucky to get ICS and/or Jelly Bean, you can pretty much rest assured that the GNex will go well into Key Lime Pie officially.
2.) Internal hardware chosen for STABILITY and EFFICIENCY, rather than bleeding edge, untested (and usually buggy) performance. That said, while it isn't cutting edge, the GNex has very solid hardware, and performance is always snappy and smooth.
3.) Usually has some neat perks that most other phones don't have. In the Gnex's case, it's the BEAUTIFUL 720p AMOLED+ display, NFC support, the ultra-fast camera, and of course Ice Cream Sandwich.
After using a plethora of other non-Nexus Android devices, I got absolutely fed up with the apathy that the manufacturers and carriers have toward updating their handsets. The last straw was, as I mentioned, my Droid Charge. Even though Verizon considered it the flagship 4G LTE phone well into last September, it was released with an out-of-date OS to begin with (Froyo; GB had been out for well over half a year already). It didn't get GB until after it had been replaced as a flagship phone, and then was (and remains) ineligible for an update to ICS even though ICS was released only six months after the Charge was released! What the hell is that!?
Never again. Nexus or bust. Trust me, you'll be happy with the GNex.

As always, XDA is up to some good stuff with a new release of Android now available. Some developers are finding what appears to be updated binaries for the GPU that’s inside the Galaxy Nexus. KitKat was announced last week, and surprisingly, Google decided to drop support for the Galaxy Nexus. It’s surprising because KitKat can run on devices with 256MB of RAM, which the Galaxy Nexus has a full gigabyte of RAM available. We’ve already seen numerous custom ROMs flowing out for KitKat on the Galaxy Nexus. And it’s not just for the GSM Galaxy Nexus, but also the Verizon (Toro) and Sprint (Toroplus) versions.
It appears that Texas Instruments have updated the GPU binaries for the Galaxy Nexus. Now, Google may not have known that TI was going to update it or Google may not have told TI that they had given up on the two-year old device. But either way, developers are hard at work building an updated kernel that might help solve some of the graphical issues with KitKat on the Galaxy Nexus.
If you’re one of those many people out there still rocking the Galaxy Nexus, and not wanting to give it up just yet. It looks like you might get Christmas a bit early. As the new GPU binaries should definitely help out the Galaxy Nexus. Although, if you’ve held onto it this long, you’re probably due for an upgrade, since the device was released in November 2011. Hopefully this will help people get a long a bit more until the device finally chokes.
This is another reason why we love the developer community around Android. You won’t find a developer community like this behind the iPhone or anything iOS related. Back before I started here at AH, I had a couple of devices in which the manufacturer had given up on the device, but developers had continued to support it for years. Which was quite nice.

I'm still very much active on this , its true its beyond my skill but that's how I learn . I'm hands on all the way , my nexus stays with the battery cover off 50% of the time lol , so don't fret , there might be hope yet .......

Even of they ARE only good for4.2/4.3 improvements, I'd love to see them incorporated
