Cracked my screen - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

And it didn't take much to do it either! Was sitting in a patio chair, slipped out of my pocket 18in down to poured concrete. My gnex had taken falls 10x worse and come away unscathed.
Be careful, this big phone is really a whimp in the durability department.
No case, never use them so it is partially my bad but I was really surprised this fall was enough to cause this kind of damage. She is still 100% operational however. I have been quoted $300 and $350 to replace. I do have insurance but am not sure how I will proceed at this point. I may just use it as is for a while versus getting a new one immediately and feeling like I need to keep it in a bubble.
Be careful!

It faired pretty well in the drop tests on youtube. I guess all it takes is the right angle.

Yeah, fair point. Got it right on the lower left corner. Must have been the kill spot.

Makes sense. More glass. More fragile.

Mines cracked too. Don't even know how it happened. Store refused to mark it as defect. Sprint is telling me to file a claim with asurion on Monday. Its not on the site yet but I'm willing to bet it's the first 200 deductible. Phone works fine and for the note 1 they sell an outer glass for $30. What to do?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk

you guys WILL NEED a case for this phone. How to do you guys expect a 5.5" phone (which isnt as durable as a tablet or small phone) with a stretched screen with gorilla glass 2 (thinner but stronger my arse) to actually take hits and falls naked?

Why 300-350? shouldnt it be 100 with insurance?

As far as I know the highest for assurion through sprint is $200 at this point. I would assume this phone would be on the top tier for deductibles. That was according to the packet that I received recently, along with the increase to $11 a month.

It's tiered based off the retail price of the phone if bought outright. This is the first $200 deductible product sprint has offered.

I hope otterbox hurry's up. Anyone else know of a bullet proof case?

[Q] water damage

well we were outside and my daughter water balloon popped and it got my gfS phone, i quickly wiped it up and it worked fine but about 45m she called and said the screen isnt working. now i had this happen b4 and just let it sat it it starting a few days later now my ? is how sentative is the epic? should i just expect the worse and just call sprint and what should i tell them to avoid any charges
Turn it off and let it sit in a bowl of rice for a couple of hours or overnight if possible. Their are several water indicators so they will be able to ser them and tell you to file an insurance claim. Wait and see.

You almost always have to pay a deductible for insurance unless you pay a high premium. Look at your auto insurance. I'm sure you pay $100-$1000 out of pocket first before the insurance kicks in. If you know of any free insurance companies please let me know!

Total Equipment Protection/TEP has quite a bit a value considering you'll have to wait 20 months to get a handset upgrade which means in essence if you have to replaced your handset prior to that 20 month mark and you don't have either Equipment Replacement Protection/ERP or TEP, bend over and grab your ankles and get ready to pay full retail pricing or figure a way to get your hands on a replacement device.

Do you realize if you have to have your handset serviced and/or repaired and you do not have either the $4/month for ESRP or the $8/month for TEP on your account you have to pony up $35 in the store unless you want to ship your handset to the manufacturer and have then do the service/repair for you at no charge as well as most smartphone usually end up being serviced 3+ times within the first year i.e. $105 versus $96?

Squaretrade, I don't understand them. $99 for two year coverage and $50 deductible on the iphone 5 64gb that retails for $799, or $125 for two years coverage and $99 deductible for the $699 note 2. Or the $299 nexus 4.

The more popular the phone = less the deductible because the percentage of people actually breaking their phones is probably less than those that don't. In the end they make more money.

I just noticed recently that my wells fargo credit card has specific coverage for cell phones, as long as the bill is paid by the card ever month (which mine is, on autopay). I promptly cancelled my $11/mo TEP. 600 bucks coverage per claim, $25 deductible, damage and theft protection. I've never had a phone replaced with TEP, so this coverage makes sense for me.

Tep is just the usual insurance from sprint for $11 a month they claims are done through asurion. They send the replacement phone for 150 deductible. Anything else like software issues or defects in the phone are replaced free of charge by sprint when you're paying the $11 a month.
Best buy insurance is $10 a month and covers everything but lost/stolen with a 0 deductible. The drawback is if you need a replacement for software issues they gotta try to fix it first so you're without a phone for awhile.
I'd go with the sprint insurance

I agree. I never buy insurance and never needed it. My phones are always in excellent condition, never use screen protectors or cases. I'm just careful with it. I don't like the idea of paying $11/mth plus $150 deductible. I can just get buy a phone from craigslist/ebay for a decent price if need be rather than pay monthly.
I prefer squaretrade. Costco sells it now on their phones and its only a $25 deductible
