Weird screen problems - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I'm having a problem with my Verizon galaxy nexus. The screen goes nuts with phantom touches. Happens a couple times a day. If I turn the screen off, then on it fixes it for a couple minutes. Rebooting fixes it for a few hours or more.
I factory reset, updated to Codename 3.8 from 3.6.6, tried different kernels. Have the same problem. I did restore with titanium backup, would that have brought the problem back if it's a software problem?
I turned on show screen touches in developer options, to make it easier to see when this is happening and what the problem is. It usually shows 1 or 2 extra touches, sometimes more.

Coming from a clean install?
Get the phone back to original software, lock him and unlock later (that erase everything)
Then install CNA or other rom you like.
(sorry for the bad english, just wanna help)

I think I narrowed down the problem. I think it happens when the phone is plugged into the charger then gets to 100% charged.
When I unplugged the phone when this is happening, but leave the screen on, it keeps going til the battery goes to 99%, then starts working normally.
I'm not certain yet cause it doesn't happen every time the phone is 100% charged, but that seems to be the only time it happens.
Edit:
It also happens when the phone is less than 100% charged and plugged into the charger when usb fast charge is enabled.

[Q] Screen on and Charging when not charging

My gnex has a strange problem.
Every once in a while it goes into a loop where the following happens:
Screen turns on and display says the phone is charging even though I am nowhere near a charger or cable.
The screen stays on for 30 seconds (until timeout) and the immediately turns on again.
It can drain the battery in a few hours when this happens, and there's nothing I can do to make it stop. Not even a reboot helps.
After charging, the phone goes back to acting normal.
There's no obvious pattern in battery level, running apps, or anything else I could find. It doesn't even happen in every charge cycle.
I have tried flashing another ROM, flashing another kernel, killing apps and processes, removing apps, going to flightmode and a lot of other things. Nothing helps.
Does anyone have an idea what's happening?
Has anyone else experienced this?
There was another user posting with this problem.
Then another two who came to his aid (kind of) saying that they had the problem before as well...and eventually had to turn their phones in for refurbs.
I can't seem to find the thread, but I do swear to the validity of my statements.

My G2 will shut itself off - any suggestions?

I'm looking for any ideas for the problem I'm having on my G2. I'm afraid it's a hardware problem and not much I can do about it.
I started having problems after upgrading from CM 7.1 to 7.2, but I don't think it was related to the upgrade. I started having battery draining problems, the phone took forever to get fully charged, and car mode would automatically start sometimes when plugging up or unplugging the charger. I cleaned the usb port with alcohol (with battery removed), let dry, and restarted. Now I don't have the car mode problem and the battery problem is somewhat better.
My problem now is that the phone will just die when I'm using it. Usually when I'm using the browser. I'll be scrolling on a page and the phone will just turn itself off. Like the battery died. I can turn the phone back on and it will start up, get all the way started back up, but while it is still loading the home screen widgets, it will go off again. I can repeat this several times. The only way to recover is to plug in the charger. I don't have to hit the power button again, just plugging in the charger will start up recovery mode automatically, I'll choose reboot and the phone will start normally then and stay on.
The phone never dies when I'm not using it. I'll carry it all day, making phone calls on and off, and it'll stay on with no problem. Mostly, I only have the problem when using the browser. Also had the problem while using my newsreader. Once during playing a game. But if I start up browsing the internet, it doesn't take long before it will turn itself off. A matter of a couple of minutes. I don't have the problem with reading emails with K9. Don't have a problem in downloading from the internet such as podcasts. Don't have a problem in sending text messages. Don't recall it shutting down while using the Facebook app. After putting up with this for a week, some troubleshooting and observations.
I never have this problem if the charger is plugged in. Only when it is running fully from the battery.
I've tried swapping to a different battery.
Turned down the overclocking with no difference.
I've changed to other recoveries, CM 7.2, CM 7.1, a CM 7.1 that I was running in May. No difference.
I've swapped memory cards.
I've reset battery stats.
No difference if running on wifi or just data.
Clearing caches made no difference.
So, I start thinking it must be a hardware problem, but then why does it only crop up when internet browsing. Must be power related since plugging in the charger makes it go away, but why does it not have a problem with using the phone in other ways?
Any suggestions on what I could try?
You could try to see if there is too much voltage drop when you start something power-hungry. Use a battery voltage logger and post the results. Start logging, let the phoneidle for a minute and then start browsing. Even if the phone shut off, the log should still be there after rebooting.
Thanks for the idea. I can't locate a logger that looks like it would work. It would have to capture a quick drop in voltage that is momentary. This problem happens even on a full battery and when the phone come back on (either momentarily or after a recovery reboot) the battery level is unchanged.
You might try as well an other way: first idle, then gradually step up to a more power hungry app to see when the problem actually happens. I have no other ideas...
Make sure that you dont have any contact with the battery and the door.
Normally batteries are covered with an aluminum wrap, and can cause short-cuts with the phone itself.
I searched it for a while with the galilio batteries.
You can try to put some saranhwrap around the battery.
I have the same problem with two different batteries. But I'm ready to try that too.
Battery graph
So here's a graph of my battery status. Long time to charge to 100%. Discharges pretty rapidly. Each downturn ends in the phone turning itself off. Notice that at 7:30 today, it turned itself off, I did a recovery reboot, then noticed it wasn't charging very well (green line turns to blue but doesn't increase), then I did a manual reboot and when the phone restarted, it showed the battery was at 100% charge (from about 60% before the reboot).
What do you think - hardware or software?

Well, I just took the cover off for awhile and tried it. Played crosswords (Shortz) for awhile with no problems. Started my newsreader (Newsrob) and it shut itself off in about 15 seconds. So, no short to the battery cover.
Same thing is happening to me. I use poweramp or the browser and the G2 just shuts off. Then I restart it and it tells me that the battery is low. Once I shut it down and reboot in recovery and wipe the battery cache it's back to it's normal battery level. I disabled data and set my phone for 2G networks only and it didn't shut off after. I'm assuming this is a wireless issue? I'm running mimicry 1.3.0 on my G2.
Had the same problem. Swapped out batteries and problem gone.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda app-developers app
Did you swap the battery and immediately have no further problems? I tried swapping my battery already and still have the same problem.

[Q] [q] Hard bricked? Won't turn on, won't connect, small signs of life

Hi,
I turned my phone off last night before going to sleep, it had 40% battery left. When I tried to turn it on this morning it didn't do anything. Even when trying to charge it the LED did not light up.
the only sign of life I got out of it was a screen with the "battery charging", looked like it was charged around 50%. However, it did not, and still does not respond to the hardware keys...
Any solutions? Or am I simply out of luck.
Extra info:
Stock rom, rooted.
Already had some sort of problem described in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-2/help/phone-freezes-awake-stock-custom-rom-t2908503
Thanks in advance!
May be you should try wiping data (lock screen & stuff) from samsung online site (if you have registered).. Not sure if it work.. Just a suggestion..
Somehow I don't have any registered devices.. (I did register it though, just because of the dropbox storage bonus)
Edit: My device randomly booted up, had it plugged in to the charger all day (about 6 hours), 47% charged right now.
going to make a backup using titanium and flashing stock via odin, see if it helps.
This is reaaally weird though... :silly:

[Q] Reboot problem when not charging

I have had my P607T for a couple of months now. It is box stock no changes. Over the last few weeks I have noticed that it will reboot while using various apps. (Fliipboard, Chrome, Clash of Clans, Papyrus...) They don't seem to all be heavy graphics or network. The only symptom is that the screen starts to flash then "bang" reboot (and trouble rebooting when not plugged in). It would not be too annoying except that it will loose wifi settings and the wallpaper. I have tried different wallpapers (saw a thread blaming the live wallpapers ) Unloaded some apps (had another phone issue with FitBit and HTC blink on my N4). I stay away from CoC (my base has been raided so often now ...). Any thoughts? I am really trying to like this tablet more than my old ASUS Transformer but this reboot and reset wifi is a pain.
Thanks in Advance,
marka

Have you tried a factory reset? I'd make tmobile replace it
was hoping to avoid the reset button. Tried it and still giving trouble it rebooted while restoring apps. I bought the tablet on ebay, I don't think TMO will take it back. oh well I'll keep poking about.
thanks,
I experience exactly the same problem since the update to 4.4.2 (kitkat): The screen starts to flash, suddenly the tablet reboots. I tried a factory reset multiple times, also removed the SD card and reflashed the ROM via KIES, nothing helped so far. Also, even when plugged into the outlet for several hours the tablet didn't charge at all (I think it stopped charging when the screen saver kicks in).
A couple of weeks ago I filed a RMA request (my dealer sent the tablet to Samsung), yesterday I got it back. It was charged at 60% and when I plugged it to the outlet it actually charged (even when the screen went off). But after about one hour (the battery was still > 60%) the flashing reappeared and after a while the tablet started to reboot again. Interestingly the battery now showed only 2% and the low battery warning appeared.
I think the problem might occur only when the battery runs low (which happens very fast as something seems to drain the battery), while android still shows a much higher battery level . Never experienced these problems when the tablet was plugged in so far.

At least I don't feel so alone with this issue... I have been paying more attention to my build up process since the factory reset. I found, the other night quite by accident, that when I logged in to Twitter the reboot started. So for the next few days I have left Twitter off the machine and it is doing better. I suspect that something is hitting the power drain (like you mention) and that causes it to have problems. In that thought I have also turned off the power saving mode and auto screen now just to add to the list of things I am avoiding.

Have you considered rooting and using root apps to stop the apps from being able to do such things?

Sprint SIII Turning off randomly

Hi, I've been trying to find out how to fix an issue with my SIII. My phone will turn on when it has full charge and will turn off after like 3 minutes, then turn off and show my phone charging at about 90%.
When i turn it back on it will turn back off at the spash screen or even when when it gets to the home screen. If i turn on the phone in recovery however, it will stay until it reaches 0% charge. I have hard reset the phone and nothing
I've even tried flashing different roms and i still encounter the same issues. I can only get the phone to turn on to the OS and run perfectly for a few minutes when the charge is at 100%. even with the charger connected... rarely it will stay on for a very long time until i try to do alot of things with it.
Anyone ever encouter this issue or can help guide me on how to fix it?
Thanks in advance
