Hello,
I would like to install a custom ICS ROM, but the volume button doesn't work. I do diagnose this issue, and it appears that it is a hardware issue, so only the replacement of the motherboard can fix it (but this operation is not planned... relating to money issue...).
So, I understand that I'll have to make a goldcard, then downgrade the firmware to 1.73, then Root + S-Off... but all these operations need to access to the bootloader, which requires the volume button...
is there another way to flash the ROM of my stock DHD, without accessing to the bootloader ?
My phone is NOT root. The phone is a SFR operator branded phone. I
installed android version is 2.3.5 build 3.12.405.1, with Sense 3.0 (official HTC ROM) a years ago. It was an official HTC ROM, so the root isn't needed, and I did perform the flash directly through my PC.
Thanks in advance.
Rgds.
I'm not 100% sure, so could be wrong here...
Turn the phone on and plug it into the pc. Connect as charge only, and enable USB debugging.
Use adb command in cmd to reboot into bootloader.
You'll have to do a bit of a search to find the command. Also, you'll need to install adb on your pc

I've had my Desire HD for 22 months now and unfortunately the volume button/rocker is starting to fail too. It might not be such a difficult hardware fix, adjustment or even possibly clean for some. It's a shame though, and it will weigh up in my decision making for my next phone. I still love the phone though.
You could try to fix it or keep it as is (as a backup to play around with). The worst that could happen (for now), you'll need adb to do a few things. Nothing major.

4ext recover touch
Makes ROM manager ( non touch ) look awful
If you don't have the volume rocker than just enable USB Debugging and the only difference is that once you need to access your Recovery or Bootloader you use one of these commands in CMD/Terminal:
adb reboot recovery
or
adb reboot bootloader
Obviously you need to have adb installed on you computer.
I don't know if this is still relevant to the original poster but I have found the soft keys work as the volume rocker in ClockworkMod 5.0.2.0. The HOME and MENU keys work as the volume up and down. The ARROW (Back) button is the return or go back button, and SEARCH works the same as the Power button for selecting. I to have the Inspire 4g version, but should still be the same for DHD.
Edit: Did not see the not rooted part of the OP. Well, I hope this helps someone else.

NO donĀ“t flash your phone is the volume rocker is not working...you might get stuck and won't be easy to get back to a working state. Hacking should be done with a fully working phone.
Hello, I'm sorry but I am a noobie in dev stuffs for mobile OS.
So, I'll just seek some assistance before I do something terrible to my phone.
Problem:
My phone gets stuck in the HTC logo white screen, tho I do manage to get pass that by holding the power button again.
The files in my phone which I delete gets restored if the mobile is restarted. (similar on how Deep Freeze works on PCs)
Factory reset doesn't work. (Have no tried doing it while connected in a PC)
Lots of errors in my applications.
Note, this phone was just passed to me by my aunt since she no longer use it.
I wanted to fix them.
I'm willing to learn methods to be able to fix it, I just want some assistance on where to start with troubleshooting this phone.
Thank you for your time. (can provide more info if asked)

What does hboot say? To get to hboot, reboot while holding power and volume-down.

Could you please link me up to one?
I really do not know how this stuff works, so I wont know which ones would match my phone.
Or if there is somewhere/something to know how to find the one that matches mine, I am fine with reading and learning.
Thank you either way for the help.

Hello, sorry for the late reply.
I tried installing the one provided by nikolas60 a few moments ago. (I used that one since it's the same version with the one provided by humzaahmed155 but in zip form)
I installed it using the bootloader method, put it in the sd card root and renaming it PD98IMG.
Bootloader managed to detect it but after a few minutes, it just said wrong CID, or something, then press power to restart.
So I just restarted it and nothing happened.
Did I do something wrong? Should I try the .exe one?
bumping for answers or advices. thank you.
You will need to make a gold card if you have wrong cid.

Hi all,
I just joined this website. I got a HTC Desire HD, with Cyanogemod from this website cyanogenmod.org
Since yesterday its stuck in boot screen. The cyanogenmod booting animation keeps going forever. I got into the recovery mode once, and somewhere on another forum someone wrote that I had to click Fastboot. But now I cant get into recovery mode anymore, and my phone wont boot too.
What can I do to make my phone work again?
All help is highly appreciated!
Please provide what steps you followed before current state of phone, are you s-on or s-off, bootloader unlocked or not etc. So that it will be easy to understand the state of ur phone and helo

Hey ramdesai,
I really appreciate your post(and it was really fast too). It was a long time ago that I put Cyanogenmod on my phone, and I used some tutorial to do it. I think this was the tutorial that I used. I also don't know what s-on or s-off is. techgeekal.com/2013/01/14/cyanogenmod-10-1-jellybean-4-2-1-for-htc-desire-hd/
Edit: i know my phone had its original OS before cyanogenmod

Are you S-OFF or have an unlocked bootloader? if you don't know that then I suggest you do some reading first. There is a guide in my signature where you will find all that stuff.
Check the hboot and see what it says...it is not the same installation for S-OFF than being unlocked

I already told you what to do. A good piece of advice is to avoid messing around your device if you don't get what you are doing....when you are online let me know and we can arrange so I can connect to your PC via teamviewer to have a look at it.

Hiho , i have a problem that my DHD wont start anymore after installing the newest update of the Jelly Time ROM.
USB Debugging is off and i cant turn it on and fastboot was allready on before i flashed it.
If i connect the device to my PC the CWM starts but i cant select wipe/factory reset by pushing the power button because the device will boot then.

allready fixed it, my VOLUM - button is little bit buggy i had to press it harder to enter the ACE hack kit
I have a HTC ONE X LTE - Rogers. I was running hboot 1.11 with Viper Custom ROM. I decided it was time to update my rom but I have not done any flashing in a while. I tried installing the newest Revolution HD ROM without any luck and realized it maybe because my hboot was out of date. So I tried to re-lock my bootloader and flash a newer RUU with JB but I feel like this is where I went wrong. I think I flashed the wrong RUU. I can no longer boot into Recovery or Fastboot. ADB and Fastboot commands don't work (they used to so I know I have all the necessary files). My phone won't turn on. If I try to boot into recovery the Navigation buttons just flash and if I hold Power+VolUP it shows the logo then shuts off again. I've been trying to look for a way to fix this but the only one that seems to work is calling HTC and asking for a replacement or sending it in. I'm worried that since I've been flashing and running a custom rom they will charge me. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you.
EDIT: I somehow managed to get it into bootloader. Its status is currently UNLOCKED, hboot is 2.14. I don't want to mess this up, what do I do now? It seems like I can't access recovery since everytime I reboot it automatically shuts off and I am only able to access bootloader if Im lucky.

Hi! Its been a while!
So i unrooted my phone a while ago but then i was bored so i decided to root it again!
I re-installed all the drivers, uninstall htc sync, and decided to root it via revolutionary method!
I entered the beta key and it finally said SUCCESS! It asked me to flash recovery and i types Y (yes) but it said failed to flash!
But then i noticed in the bootloader screen that nothing was changed. It didnt say REVOLUTIONARY in pink like it used to say before! There was S-OFF written but no revolutionary!
I decided to try to root it again! The same thing happened! It said SUCCESS but no REVOLUTIONARY written on top of the bootloader screen!
Then i decided to flash the recovery manually. I tried the fastboot method but when i entered the command it said:
READING
WRITING failed (remote: not allowed)
what is this? does this mean im not rooted.
But then i successfully flashed recovery via PC49IMG method and flashed a ROM without any problems!
I just want to ask is it okay if REVOLUTIONARY is not written on top of the bootloader screen?
Thnx in advance! =)

Its very strange to see. What is your hboot version at the moment? As long as you don't upgrade or downgrade your hboot s-off should stick, but you won't have access to the fastboot commands without the hacked hboot
Interesting case

No....all is not well sadly! I've tested this 'unrevolutionized' rooted phone with 3 ROMs and noticed that the apps keeps on force closing on its own! Also, the battery life turns SOOOO CRAPPY that my phone turns into plug-and-play! =(
And once I unroot my phone, it works COMPLETELY fine!
So probably there is something im doing wrong! Any ideas?

Hmmm. It could be how the revolutionary exploit is done, I'm not sure what process they use and it could leave the stock hboot damaged I suppose. Not sure if I'm honest pal. Good to hear that a return to stock has has helped though!
