Did i root alright? - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! Its been a while!
So i unrooted my phone a while ago but then i was bored so i decided to root it again!
I re-installed all the drivers, uninstall htc sync, and decided to root it via revolutionary method!
I entered the beta key and it finally said SUCCESS! It asked me to flash recovery and i types Y (yes) but it said failed to flash!
But then i noticed in the bootloader screen that nothing was changed. It didnt say REVOLUTIONARY in pink like it used to say before! There was S-OFF written but no revolutionary!
I decided to try to root it again! The same thing happened! It said SUCCESS but no REVOLUTIONARY written on top of the bootloader screen!
Then i decided to flash the recovery manually. I tried the fastboot method but when i entered the command it said:
READING
WRITING failed (remote: not allowed)
what is this? does this mean im not rooted.
But then i successfully flashed recovery via PC49IMG method and flashed a ROM without any problems!
I just want to ask is it okay if REVOLUTIONARY is not written on top of the bootloader screen?
Thnx in advance! =)

Its very strange to see. What is your hboot version at the moment? As long as you don't upgrade or downgrade your hboot s-off should stick, but you won't have access to the fastboot commands without the hacked hboot
Interesting case

This is what is written on a bootloader screen:
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT - 1.01.0001
RADIO - 3.35.20.10
What do you think?

No....all is not well sadly! I've tested this 'unrevolutionized' rooted phone with 3 ROMs and noticed that the apps keeps on force closing on its own! Also, the battery life turns SOOOO CRAPPY that my phone turns into plug-and-play! =(
And once I unroot my phone, it works COMPLETELY fine!
So probably there is something im doing wrong! Any ideas?

Hmmm. It could be how the revolutionary exploit is done, I'm not sure what process they use and it could leave the stock hboot damaged I suppose. Not sure if I'm honest pal. Good to hear that a return to stock has has helped though!

[Q] How to do S-On with not working touchscreen

Hi
I would like to know is it possible to do S-On and unroot Desire HD with not responding touchscreen? Without it i can't turn on USB Debugging to run Jokljo's tool (Easy Radio Tool v2.2) to go back to S-on. First time was unsuccesfull. I still have S-Off, SuperCid. Only ClockworkMod has been removed. Even original recovery hasn't restored. When I go there only an orange triangle with exclamation mark appears.
I have to go back to stock to give guarantee for.
I returned to stock Rom with CWM-nandroid restore. Before that I was trying other Roms but touchscreen still was dead. I think it is hardware issue. I don't know why. It occured after reboot because I had problem with GSM Network which turned alternately off and on.
Can anyone help?
Run a stock HTC RUU and it will restore everything except Radio S-OFF, (I wouldn't worry about that)

ohh dear... display r.i.p......
the only one thing that happens to me its go to recovery and go with te buttons to "mounts and storage" enable the "usb mount" option... copy and paste from your pc an official rom without root (look at for it in XDA files)...
when you flashes an official rom you loose the root access (sure)
for to go back to s-on you need the display... But with luck in the technical service they will not realize

But I don't have recovery at all. Easy radio tool removed Clockworkmod Recovery and didn't restore original. I have no recovery. That is the problem. Plus dead touchscreen...
I thought that is possible to revert to stock with adb shell. Somehow...
Download a RUU (ROM Update Utility) and run it from your PC, easy. You only need to plug in your phone and switch it on.

for use an adb shell you must to have a CWM rec. or put your device in usb debugging.
if there´s not another mode you can´t use android sdk
Ok I'will try ROM Update Utility. Many Thanks for now.

now if you have unrooted and putted an official ruu i think that its sufficient for send the device to the thecnical service....

I'm praying for that
Should I try newest Rom? I.e RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.3? What do U think?
There's nothing you can do about it now, since you need root for S-ON, and only way you can do it currently is with visionary tool(there's no way to gain root via your computer ATM, and probably it won't be developed), and you need your touchscreen for that... Install the RUU which your phone came with when you bought it, send it to tech service, and pray that they won't look/ignore that it's S-OFF...

[Q] Potential Internal memory corrupt Issue with S-On (Flashed 2.3 RUU)

I have flashed the original 2.3 RUU upgrade from Htc dev. The phone is stuck on boot loop. It stays on HTC logo screen for few seconds and then restart again.
History:
I originally had RCMix installed on my phone. Suddenly the phone restarted and then got stuck on Joker screen. I found out that the memory card was corrupted, so reformatted sdcard through windows. Tried re-flashing but again was getting stuck on joker screen.
I flashed RUU's (initially Amoled one and got blank screen for a while) successfully but again was getting stuck on boot screen with no access to recovery , could only access fastboot.
So as a last resort , tried flashing 2.3 upgrade , so its no more stuck on the htc logo now, but keep restarting from that logo screen.
1) I understand it could potentially be a Mboard or Nand issue, but I suspect it could also just be bad sectors on internal memory or some other internal memory corrupt issue. Any thoughts ?
2) I could delete those partitions using fastboot commander but after using RUU , I have got a S-On device now. Is it possible to do S-Off just with fastboot without access to recovery/Adb ?
(Tried asking this on Revolutionary IRC, but no answers)
Got this device from e-bay and htc customer care says they don't honour the warranty after flashing 2.3 upgrade.
PS: I have tried searching and posting on various threads, but still looking for answers. That's why created a new thread.

try leaving it for an hour or so, and then stick it in your freezer for 10 minutes in a plastic bag (no joke), then try again with the 2.3 RUU.. not much else you can do I'm afraid.
So is it a bricked device now even when I can access fastboot ?
try to boot it without the sd card..
as the first boot require some time, wait 15 minutes or more..
Did you DOWNGRADE hboot??? and than intall stock hboot?? which hboot did you used? if the new ones from alpharev.nl you'd probably didn't read this "Downgrade protection, these HBOOTs cannot be overwritten by an OTA or RUU, unless you flash a downgrader HBOOT first." it's not too late for downgrade... just do it on fastboot

I did S-Off using alpharev few months earlier but don't remember specifically running any downgrade. After installing the RUU, the Hboot got overwritten, so definitely I was not on the latest alpharev's HBoot's.
Now to downgrade or S-Off , the phone needs to be detected by the setup, which uses adb. But I can not access adb, can only access FastBoot.
i think you can try to flash stock hboot on fastboot by fastboot tool and than do the RUU again... you can... try...

I don't think that's doable, is it ? I don't think we can downgrade the Hboot just like that with S-On.
The risk is loosing the access to Hboot/fastboot itself.
I tried that and it doesn't work with S-ON. I can't access my phone outside fastboot and hboot and I can't even flash radio that way... So now I have an expensive mp3 player with (occasional) wifi access... Anyone have a solution?

Just out of curiosity, how are you playing music in Hboot/fastboot
I think only way for us is to go to HTC now unless otherwise a senior member here sees this post and suggests something else.

Don't you have to be S-Off to flash recovery? I went through the post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1137763 and it seems I won't be able to flash it, since I'm still S-On
Yes, Seems that my device is bricked and only way out seems to be HTC now.
ridhavm,
Have you swapped hboots to Downgrade from alpharev's site?
If not, then you are still S-OFF.
Check your hboot if it's not old one.
If you are desperate, you can msg me on gTalk. I can have a look. I have saved many phones, so if it's not physical damage, we will work it out.
Thanks, Have added you on Gtalk

Unable to flash cwm on wildfire

i have a htc wildfire.. had unlocked my bootloader and i have super user installed on my phone. i rooted my phone to install the cyanogenmod. i used super user tool for rooting after unlocking my bootloader from htc dev website. i almost read all the stuff over xda to install cyanogenmod.

I have my wildfire with "hBOT 1.02.000" "S ON". and it says "locked oow"...as far i am aware of this locked oow it means that i am out of warranty... is locked means that now my wildfire bootloader is again locked and i won't be able to flash the CWM.... what shoud i do .please guide me for installing CWM . i am frustrated with all the threats and i am frustrated with reading the threats all over the xda and other places..now please guide me thoroughly how to install CWM.. please don't copy and show any installation threat please...please write full method here. and please make sure that you mention each and every step clearly because i almost read each and every threat how to flash the CWM. but unable. i am ready to answer any question. treat me as new from installation point view... please do reply as soon as possible..i will wait for reply and will try anything for installing the cyanogenmd..

as far as I know the unlock method of htc dev doesn't give you s-off (which seems to be confirmed by yourself saying you're still s-on). S-on means "security on" what in other words means you won't be able to flash a custom recovery (if I'm not mistaken here).
You said that you have read every thread here about this - so you should know as it's mentioned all over this forum (that htc dev isn't the best method...). For how - and if - you still could get there I''m not too sure but you probably need to do an RUU, downgrade etc to do the suggested method (of the two corresponding threads here) instead of the htc dev thing.
But as I said: I_m not sure if you still can - probably someone has experience here?

No, no. He will be able to flash a custom recovery if he unlocked it using HTCDev, he won't, however, be able to modify the internal storage while the phone is booted.

ah, yes, thx for clearifying - so you can't get control over the partitions or what does it mean?
The htc dev method gives a different output to revo or alpha, if it says s-on with unlocked somewhere then fastboot is the only method that will work for flashing a custom recovery and although some things like the revovery partition are unlocked for flashing, some important things like radio aren't hence the s still being on........
I presume if it says s-on and locked then yes you have probably gone wrong somewhere and locked it again.
Theres not many people on here that have used the htc dev unlock tool i don't think so support might be a bit thin as we don't know much about it, try running through the htc dev unlock method again to hopefully get it unlocked again and then flash cwm by the fastboot method.
If it says locked then i can't think of any other way, downgrading to hboot 1.01.0001in order to use revolutionary may work but i'm not sure if you can or not as i have personally never done it.

i already tried buzz downgrade a long ago.i used the method as it is told on the website..:good:
but don't know why it doesn't work properly i have no idea why this don't work either. i read number of threats regarding it and i tried to google
with the errors that came with buzz downgrade. something just goes wrong with it in the first step but it just doesn't get completed. the phone does not respond when i ran the buzz downgade utility even after installing the htc driver from the buzz downgrade itself (don't remember exactly that it is explained over the internet). i did clearly everything whatever is written in the threats about how to use the buzz downgrade but in vain i stopped it trying.
i still have the setup of buzz downgrade in my laptop.:silly:
but why it doesn't work i don't know..and you know what i read that threat too in the past.
may be it is the problem of the bootloader that it is locked..

During your procedure, did you ever achieve the S-OFF ?
You need to downgrade from 1.02.0000 to 1.01.0001 to use Revolutionary.
Try this guide.
If you want revolutionary will automatically download the recovery and install it on your phone.
After gaining S-OFF if you can't get Unrevoked working in order to gain root.
Use this or try SuperOneClick.
Good luck:good:
Try the link in my Sig, it should help. First, I recommend running an RUU and relocking your bootloader using fastboot oem lock.
Then try the debranding and rooting guide in the Sig.

this is the thing i already tried a long ago. when the wildfire was updated to 2.2 version of android ,it changed into "wildfire (buzz) 2.2.1, with HBOOT 1.01.0002"..now as the threats i read there in the past, i can't run the revolutionary or any other method. because the htc has applied some sort of lock on the new bootloader. revolutionary gave some error which i don't remember as per the threats. in the mean time nobody able to find the solution of this new 1.01.0002 bootloader unlocking. then i that time i heard of htc dev website and in that time i used that website to unlock my bootloader and alas it got unlocked and my bootloader has been changed to 1.02.000.. but now i again find that my bootloader is locked may be.. how i don;t know about that.. i tried to run that method of buzz downgrade number of times thoroughly again and again as if u read in the thread above it give some sort of error and does't do anything for me. so i asked what else i do then this , again do i need go to htc dev website to unlock bootloader ??

I never tried htcdev method so i have no idea about that. You should probably try their method once again,if that doesn't work, use the Gold card tool to downgrade the HBOOT using this guide.
Code:
Step 1: run step1.bat from the package. This will downgrade your MISC partition to allow for the RUU downgrade.
At the end, GoldCardTool will start up, to allow you to create a goldcard which you will need before starting Step 2
Step 2: run step2.bat from the package. This will downgrade your ROM version to HTC WWE Froyo for Wildfire (unbranded).
If you get a Customer ID error while doing this, your goldcard is not working!
Create a new goldcard and re-run step2
or follow usaff22's guide.
HTH

What is the information on your hboot screen? tell us your hboot info first,we can help you in a better way.
Let me tell you,I successfully rooted my phone after OTA 2.2 update using Revolutionary.
I told you,you need to downgrade from 1.02.0000 to 1.01.0001 to use Revolutionary.
Did you make any Gold-Card thing ?

You didn’t answer me,What is the information on your HBOOT screen?
Power off the phone and ensure the phone is completely off. Then hold POWER + VOL-DOWN buttons together until the white HBOOT screen appears. Tell us your HBOOT info.
You are getting Customer ID error,It’s a bad Goldcard. You will have to create a new Goldcard.
>Connect it to your computer using an SD Adapter and format the card to FAT32 file system once again.
>Redownload and reextract the package.
>Follow this guide to create the Goldcard. It’s a bit more detailed.
Before doing anything download CCleaner and TFC and run them.TFC will ask you to reboot.Reboot the PC.
Now make the Goldcard.Good luck.

not really clear to me also - if I got him right he initially has been on 1.01.0002 (because of the Android update). Because there hasn't been a possibility by revolutionary yet at that time and for that bootloader he unlocked it at the htcdev site what made it 1.02.000.
But I'm a bit confused, too, so a detailed information of the fastboot screen would really help (or a pic).

As it says, your Bootloader is still LOCKED.
After using HTC dev unlock tool your HBOOT 1.01.0002 got changed to 1.02.000 while Bootloader is still locked.

[Q] HTC Wildfire S (marvelc) - Bricked need a little assistance

Ok so I believe I bricked my phone. Currently all it does is boot to the HTC quietly brilliant screen, blink, then HTC quietly brilliant over and over forever. I am able to enter the Hboot no problem, but Recovery and Factory Reset don't help the problem.
Just so you know what I've done:
1) Started with the intention of rooting: Which now seems impossible due to me updating to the 2012 system update released before I realized it makes all the rooting instruction impossible to do.
2) I was able to UNLOCK the Hboot but the program that you normally run before hand would not work, so I did it all manually and successfully.
Current Hboot info is:
***UNLOCKED***
MarvelC PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT 1.10.0001
Microp-0354
Radio-0.94.00.0109
Apr 17 2012, 18:21:30 - I'm assuming this is the line that ruined rooting for me.
3) Tried and read every single program/walkthrough out there nothing works at all.
4) Today I tried using Hasoon2000's HTC Wildfire All in one kit.
5) Attempted to flash the recovery - thought it worked
6) As I knew about the system update mentioned above Apr17, 2012 I attempted to Flash the kernal with the boot rom inside the "RUU_Marvel_Virgin_Mobile_1.37.351.1_Radio_47.10.3 5.3029H_7.46.35.08_release_188032_signed". It went through and said everything worked perfectly. Upon restarting my phone is now stuck on the perpetual loop mentioned above and useless.
7) Booting into Hboot and attempting Flash does nothing as everything is still blocked it seems by that damm patch. Rooting using this program did not work either. I attempted to root from the Hboot USB promt (it was my only choice after the Brick)
Any assistance or ideas or leads really anything would be nice. I hope I supplied enough details.

At what point of "rooting" were you at.. and which method were you using to "root"
the 2012 update made no difference to my NON marvel C handset when rooting via the official HTCdev method.
I'm not sure what you did... clockwork mod recovery installed?
I have abused my HTC & in the last 2 weeks has had about 10 diff rooms on it... I'm finding it hard to brick.. only soft brick

I've been abusing it as well, this is the first time I've run into issue, but then again this is the first time I used this program and tried to see if I could roll back that system update with the KERNEL flash. That's the point at which all hell broke loose.

Really I'm not going to get any help at all? The Phone can't be Rooted so it's not rooted, just Unlocked HBoot as mentioned. It's in a constant Boot Loop.

Well I was able to get the phone to reboot by Fastboot flashing after extracting the rom.zip from the
RUU_Marvel_Virgin_Mobile_1.37.351.1_Radio_47.10.35.3029H_7.46.35.08_release_188032_signed
file, but the userdata, radio and recovery portions would not pass the Signatures portion.
So I'm unable to connect with my Wifi or The Phones network. Any ideas from here?
Sounds like a boot lopped have you tried flashing any roms?

LOL hey sorry my phone died and I was at work all last night.
You say its just in a perpetual boot loop... I had this with a "dodgy rom" install when I first started messing around. I managed to fix the issue with a complete wipe of SD card - formatted in the PC - then dalvic cach, cache etc... some "paid for" versions of App2sd etc that are patched or cracked also give loads of probs.
Stupic question, have you formatted / cleaned all aspects of mem card and phone acsessable files using the HBOOT.
When mine did it I just installed a fresh rom (cyanogen mod 10.1) and it worked again. without the reovery / install from SD isnt there I'm stumped.... noobie strikes... sorry
I'll have a read though... see what I can come up with.
I see from the Kernal You tried was for a MARVEL not MARVELC.... im sure the two should never be mixed up or bricking will happen
i'll get back to you later if i find anything out mate.

From reading the tread properly, it seems a flash of the MARVEL Kernal onto a MARVELC phone is where the propblem lies.. Im pretty sure you should never mix the two... I could be wrong though - my wife tells me I often am! lol
good luck Drakons:good:
your best bet at this point is to flash a custom rom that is already rooted. you have the custom recovery already installed so just flash the rom. (whichever you like) for future reference the marvelc can be s-offed by placing the pj76diag.nbh onto the sdcard and booting to bootloader, allowing it to run and then selecting clean s58 data. once you have s-off you can supercid and then run any ruu that you want, should you ever get stuck in situations like this. where as the htcdev unlock blocks the use of ruu`s and pj76img.zips from bootloader

HT Desire HD stuck with HTC logo (and CWM)

Hi all,
First of all, I can imagine that this problem has already been encountered a million times, but I tried searching the forum and didn't see the exact same problem as mine with the same setup. I'm happy to read more if someone points me to another thread with the solution.
Long story short, I tried flashing JellyTime_42 on this phone and even though everything seemed to work well, it's not booting and I'm stuck with the HTC logo.
unlocked the bootloader with HTC dev
flashed CWM recovery 5.8.1.5-ace
uploaded cm-JellyTime_42 and gapps.
wiped data, cache and dalvik cache using CWM
installed JellyTime
rebooted... and that's where I am now.
Some info about the phone itself. It's an Desire HD on ATT. cid: CWS__001

Thanks a lot for your help!!

You need to fastboot flash the boot.img from the ROM zip.

Thanks so much bananagranola, that worked and I can now boot and use the phone!
(for some reason I never saw that step mentioned in any tutorial)
Thanks again
Most tutorials are for S-Off.
Yes, the preferred unlock method for the DHD/I4G is to get S-OFF using the Advanced Ace Hack Kit (AAHK). You can still do that, you just need to relock your bootloader and run the AAHK. The command to relock was given in the last step of HTCdev unlock.
You better do that soon though, if you want. - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38157931
There are 2-3 tutorials in the Ace Think Tank thread for both the AAHK and HTCdev methods of unlock. I've made one for flashing a ROM after HTCdev unlock too. You'll find all the information you'll need about this phone in the Ace Think Tank thread. Look through it.
Also, I suggest you use either 4ext or TWRP recovery rather than CWM. CWM is very dated and causes problems while installing some ROMs (like the recent ViperDHD updates).
For 4ext - Download and install 4ext Recovery Updater from www.4ext.net and flash the latest touch recovery.
For TWRP - Install Goo Manager from Play Store->Menu->Install OpenRecoveryScript

Hi sashank,
Thanks for your input.
Why is AAHK the preferred method? It seems way complicated compared to what I've done, but probably I'm missing something. That said, the phone works like a charm now after flashing boot.img.
Because if you have S-OFF, you won't need to flash boot.img every time you flash a ROM/kernel/ROM update. You don't need to have a PC with you just to flash a ROM. Also, you can directly restore a backup with no hassle. With HTCdev unlock, you need to flash the boot.img in the backup folder separately to complete the process. I do this for my friend's One X because it doesn't have an S-OFF method unfortunately, and it's quite a hassle. If you're okay with flashing boot.img every time, then stick with HTCdev unlock, no problem.
AAHK is actually quite simple to use. It does everything for you. You just need to follow the instructions to the letter, select a few options correctly and it does the rest. Don't be intimidated by it.

Nico, HTCDEV just allows you to have a limited control over your device. You will still be linked to your carrier or sales code (CID) and will not be able to flash RUU from other carriers/geographical areas. That might sound useless now, but belive me that when you get stuck and can not find a RUU for your device you will remember it!
Besides, HTCDEV will not allow you to flash radios and some other stuff. Not to metion that your bootloader says *UNLOCKED* in a beautiful pink color at the top...LOL
S-OFF disables all kinda of security in the phone (nand security off) and that allows you to flash anything at all. From RUU's to radios without facing issues. Besides, that is completely reversible and will leave no traces of being S-OFF if you need to get to a service centre.

Because AAHK gives you full control on your device. It basically gives you permanent root privileges, S-OFFs your phone and with SuperCID (if needed) you actually unbrand your phone...that is that you can install every ROM you want on it.
It's not so difficult, to be honest, you just need to carefully read the guide and you'll soon unleash the real power of your device

I think that something is wrong there. The root access is only to rom level. If you flash a RUU you will lose root privileges until SU is flashed again. What the Hack Kit gives you is S-OFF permanently, which is reversible anyway.
Please Help
Hello
I need help. Please
I recently brought a friend's phone (Desire HD) to flash custom ROM on. I flashed boot.img via fastboot but when I select recovery, A white screen with HTC shows and after a few seconds, black screen occurs. I know screen is on however. I dont know what to do. The bootloader says unlocked but it says
S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.00.0029
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.14.04.28_M
eMMC-boot
The steps that I did was.
1. I unlocked the bootloader via HTCDev. It gave me error so I updated via RUU manually through fastboot.
2. After that, I was able to unlock the bootloader via HTCDev.
3. I followed this (http://www.teamandroid.com/2013/04/...android-422-jellytime-jelly-bean-rom-guide/2/) to flash method to Jelly-time on DHD. But when I flashed boot.img via fastboot cmd, it does not go to Recovery, it only shows phone with exclamation mark. If I reboot the phone, it shows white HTC screen and then black black screen. Please help me what to do. After unlocking via HTCDev, I didn't intall CWM, I though flashing boot.img is actually installing CWN :'|
Thanks a LOT in advance
I worked it successfully. I fastboot flashed CWM and it worked. Case closed
