[BATTERY] How to increase battery life - HTC Wildfire S

I saw here some people who crying about battery life.I decided to post few advices:
ON GB ROMS:
-switch to 2G network if you don't use data conection
-disable all animations(settings-display)
-disable auto-rotation if you don't need
-reduce your brightness or use automatic brightness)
-in "location" disable phone finder
-disable in "connect to pc" ask me
-in "power" disable fast boot and power saver
-in about "about phone-software update" disable scheduled check
-turn off GPS if you are not using
-turn off WI-FI if you are not using
-turn off MOBILE DATA if you are not using
-use SMARTASS V2 with noop/sio
-if you can/want underclock your phone to 480 MHZ
-i recommend to charge your phone with original HTC CHARGERS.
This tips will also speed-up your phone, and yo will see great improvments in battery life and performance.

Tips To Increase Backup And Life Of Smart Phone Battery
Tips to increase backup:
1- If you have bought a new smartphone and experiencing poor or unsatisfied battery backup, charge your phone battery full then discharge it to as low as 10 %. Repeat this process 9 or 10 times. Lithium inside battery will settle and backup will increase.
2- To preserve battery charge, it is recommended to turn off Wi-Fi, bluetooth, GPS and mobile internet (3G, Edge or GPRS) when not required. When Wi-Fi internet is available, preferably use it as mobile internet consumes more battery power.
3- Brighter the display is; more the battery is consumed. Dim the display brightness to preserve battery charge.
4- Use 'Power Saver' to manage battery. If you are using smartphone powered with multi core CPU, limit the core utilization. This will definitely decrease the processing power but increase battery backup.
5- Instead of using live wallpapers, use static wallpapers. Live wallpapers require processing power of CPU and GPU and therefore increase battery consumption.
Tips to increase life:
1- It is a general misconception that charging battery more often decreases battery life. Actually, discharging battery too much decreases battery life. Lithium ion battery and lithium polymer battery offer several hundred charge-discharge cycles. One cycle is full charge to almost complete discharge. It is recommended to recharge battery even if battery has more than 50 % charge left. This will help extending battery life.
2- Deep discharging any rechargeable battery is extremely fatal for it. Smartphones start poking to recharge battery when battery is down. Usually, it begins when battery charge is almost 15 % left. It is best to recharge battery instead of keeping up using it.
3- If a mobile phone is not in use and has to be stored, charge the battery full and put it in dark away from sunlight, extreme temperature and moisture. Recharge its battery after every two months.

Let's get something Straight....
TheUnderclock (really it's called Undervolt) is to purposely slow the phone down to preserve battery.
I don't think the guy who started this would really like his thread loaded with:
ITS SLOW, I DON'T LIKE IT!!!
But remember, it slows the phone DOWN!

Bro, battery calibration is a good thing to re-calibrate battery gauge because over time, the system inside battery to track battery charge may get messed up and requires re-calibration. But I must add, re-calibration should not be done repeatedly. It is because, when gauge is being calibrated, battery is deep discharged to 0 % and deep discharging any rechargeable battery is not good for its health.

Anyone remember how long their battery lasted @ 480Mhz??

Very litlle battery life on my GIO

Hello all,
Am i the only one that is having problems with the battery life on the galaxy gio?
I charged the phone today at 5 in the afternoon, by 8(3 hours after) 70% of battery, charged it with the wall charger and i rebooted it when the battery was full to close all tasks.
In 3 hours without any wifi, only 1 sms received, no calls and no other tasks was executed i lost 30%.
What can i do to improve the battery?
Are you experiencing any similar problems?

You can wipe battery stats, and turn things like gps wifi data autosync unused apps etc off, for some things you need root acces

What rom you have ?
I have problems with battery life too...but because i play games. Is weird because you didn't do nothing like browsing or play games and your battery was eaten.
Try a full wipe.
Also search the market for PowerTutor, it might be able to help finding what eats your battery, as what you describe this is not normal.
If you've rooted your phone you can calibrate your battery. There's an app for this in the market. It just wipes the battery stats file and creates a new one. I've head that it is good with every rom change to calibrate the battery Hope this helps! GL!
Actually it's good to flash every new ROM when you have fully charged battery. If you fail to do this you'll have to calibrate the battery and it might not be easy to do right the first time.
SO much easier to flash having full power
Battery stats wiping
IIRC google denied that battery stats wiping would actually increase the battery life: http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...-battery-stats-does-not-improve-battery-life/
I assume, you have things like WiFi, BT or GPS turned off... Then you maybe might try another launcher. Samsung's TouchWiz is quite a power eater.

It won't increase battery life, true, but think - when you unplug the charger? When your phone says "100% charged", right? And if your battery starts are wrong the phone may say "I'm charged" when it's actually, say, 40% charged or whatever.
Wiping stats should also provide more accurate battery indicator when it gathers new stats after some usage.

In my experience the battery indicator may work a bit odd (e.g. it goes fast to 40% then stays there for ages). But it didn't keep the battery from charging to full, even when it indicated 100% it still kept charging. But to stay in the topic, clearing the stats might help the "dropping by 30% really fast" issue
Yup, that's what I was talking about - wiping stats won't improve battery life, but might fix indicator accuracy
It could be your background applications eat too much mobile data. Check out your background applications and disable them. Stick with 2G also it improves battery life a lot
if the phone and battery are ok, and you don't have Wifi/BT/3G/EDGE/max_screen_brightness/ or high CPU usage background apps, you should get something like in the attached picture:
AT least for me CM7.2 really improved battery life up to 2 (TWO) days!
Unfortunately CM9 ruined this again and brought it back for ~8h...

You can use CM 7.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1381355
It is stable and saves battery better than stock rom.
Another thing to check is that Wifi is set to disable when the screen turns off or when plugged in... If not, you can loose 50% battery life in 6 hours. (Which i did once. NOT FUN.)
As well, apps that sync in the background. Ie, mail checking your inbox every hour for new mail; facebook, twitter, myspace checking for new notifications every hour; leaving apps using GPS running in the background like Navigation, My Tracks, etc. Those sorts of things can drain a battery really quickly, beacuse it has to wake up the phone, get the phone to get the required data over the cellular network then go back to sleep again, instead of just letting the phone sleep.
Another thing you can do is to make sure you kill apps. IE, don't use the home button to exit the app, use the back button. That will kill the app instead of leaving it running in the background.
Its kinda funny, this is all stuff people have mentioned already, but it seriously can be the difference between a half a day and a whole day on a battery...

How to calibirate battery on miracle v4

Hi can anybody help on calibirating battery on miracle v4 rom

Do bump charging instead of battery calibration. Search it on google.
-Charge your phone to 100%
-Use this battery Calibration app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration&hl=de
This app needs root
-Then let your phone discharge until it turns off itself
Notice: in this time you're not allowed to plug the phone to the pc or to the charger again until it turns off
-after it turns off plug the phone to the charger and let it charge without breaks to 100%
-Done
I recall that battery calibration was bogus, there was a post which explained why it was bogus in detail. In other words, don't bother, but charge your battery around 50% if you want a healthy battery.

also you can go to recovery and select wipe batterystats.bin
Calibrating your battery does not give you extra battery life, just improves the battery level indicator. Android calibrates battery itself anyway (when battery info change to a few seconds)
batter calibration is of no use i have tested it many times on many roms. our ace has not a good battery. so follow common steps like brightness to 0, application background off etc etc.

There is a way to get good battery life in miracle v4 but it took me about 5 days now I get 16 hours off battery with heavy use and about 22 hours for normal use
How I did this
1.let your battery totally die
2.leave your phone off and give full charge
3.still with your charger pluged in boot to cwm recovery
4.now select advanced then wipe battery status
5.now still with with charger pluged in reboot you phone
6.when your phone is fully booted remove charger(you will notice the battery will drop to about 86% in about 10 mins the first time but will get better each time you repeat all these step)
NOTE:I have done this on my wife's s.g.ace with rom miracle v4
And on my Sony Ericsson x8 with many different Rom's
And on my friends Sony Ericsson x10i with many different rom's
YOU MUST USE MAINS CHARGER NOT USB FROM P.C OR LAPTOP AS USB WILL ONLY TRICKLE CHARGE.
If this helped hit the thanks button

Battery Life Optimization Guide

Rule 1: If you haven't taken these steps, you haven't done a thing in the way of actually optimizing your battery life, and please do not complain that your battery is bad if you haven't at least done steps 1 and 2!
Step 1: Use BetterBatteryStats: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
This will diagnose battery drain issues. If you have apps that are sucking battery in the background, this will show it. Google the ones that have high partial wakelock, and usually you will get a diagnosis. It is also sometimes very easy to figure out what is sucking battery just by looking at the application that is holding wakelocks or having many alarm wakeups.
Step 2: Sync settings, make sure that all of them are either at push or as high as you're personally willing to allow between sync checkups. Any sync settings that happen too often will trash battery life.
Step 3: Radio based drain is a very big part of battery life! As such, if you do not need constant sync, you can turn off mobile data on your own when you do not need it, or go to the Mobile Network settings and disable always on mobile data. This can greatly increase battery life, but at the expense of sync not working when mobile data is off.
Step 4: Display brightness can greatly affect the power drain of the battery! You can either manually control the brightness, download Lux autobrightness to make your own autobrightness settings, or flash a custom autobrightness setting in the ROM in order to achieve this. It also can have the side effect of making the display of the right brightness when in the sun and in the dark, so it is always at ideal brightness to preserve battery.
Step 5: Make sure that the battery is calibrated. This is not very complicated. Download currentwidget from the market, put it on a homescreen. Charge the device until currentwidget indicates 0 mA charge. Use the phone until the phone shuts off. You might want to then go to hboot and drain the battery until it shuts off again, and then do a full charge again. Only do this once every 2-3 months, because this is bad for the battery.
Step 6: Adblocking! One big cause of battery drain and unnecessary network usage is downloading ads. If rooted, use Adaway and Adblock to block ads from ever being downloaded, and use Adaway's adware feature to detect and remove apps with adware!
Step 7: A radical step is to use Core Control or something similar to either underclock, undervolt, or just shut off cores. Undervolting is always highly suggested, as it will help reduce heat and give the phone a longer lifetime, but underclocking and shutting off cores will reduce performance!
Step 8: Custom ROMs and kernel experimentation might yield just a bit more in the way of battery life, and also give much more customization and features.
After this, you have likely topped out all that can be reasonably done to extend battery life. If you find that your battery drain is still poor, perhaps you have a defective battery, or maybe even a defective device (Highly unlikely, but who knows...). It is also possible that you simply have a use case that is much more than the phone can accomplish, in which case you can either use a battery case, or an external battery to charge the phone on the go.

if too much undervolting the phone freezes/ reboot ....so the best value for undervolting is between 50 and 100mv ....in some cases undervolting increases battery life and makes the phone cooler but not much ...
Under volting is when you tell the battery to provide a little less power than usual.
Which is why the battery life usually increases, as less battery is being used than previously.
But as stated, too much can cause the battery to not provide ENOUGH power, therefor crashes and cannot boot properly etc.

Pretty much, I would say. Drastic increase of battery in games: phone won't get hot => battery will last longer without overheating and, what is much more important, it will stay healthier in long run.
Even on wall charger while playing, my HOX won't overheat with - 100mv UV.
This is the main feature I miss on JB Sense without custom kernels

The problem is, the phone cannot get the same amount of energy, it consume (in fact, it is the millisecond, where the phone is fully charged, than it discharges for some minutes, than it will be charged again for three minutes and so on periodically). So, what I mean, you will almost never see 0 ma on one X or other modern phones. You can only see that, if device can disable battery while it is fully charge and use wall charger like a main supply. And the last device with such behavior was Huawei s7 back to 2010
So, 3-5ma is pretty ok.

Best thing I have found is to totally drain battery to the point it the phone will only slightly vibrate. Remove the Battery. Put the battery back in and then fully charge with the phone on charge mode to 100 percent. Unplug. Then plug back in a few seconds later for fully charged to reappear. Done. Really helps to do this once every month or two. Credit to someone on another forum for this tip. Turning off data when not in use and low screen brightness will substantially increase battery life. No syncing, bluetooth or wifi will help. An app called GSam battery monitor will identify apps that suck battery. I use longevity by trend micro to shut my data off.

Fully draining a lithium ion battery will significantly decrease it's lifespan. Any positive effects you see from this are probably not measurable, or scientifically reproducible. Your other tip is solid, disabling data (or using an app to do so) greatly increases battery life. As well as turning down the brightness.

Battery lifespan for lithium ion batteries is measured on how many cycles its been through (hits 100%). If you go from 90% to 100%, you just used up a battery cycle. Even 99% to 100% counts as a cycle.
The method you described in your earlier post is for conditioning your battery, it works on older batteries but is not needed for lithium or poly lithimer batteries.
Tips for battery life, disable radios and keep screen dim. A dark wallpaper helps too, white screens are a battery drainer!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Get a app that disables other apps that start up on system boot-up or other events. Autostarts its a good app I use. As you all should know dont use app-killers unless u know how and when to use them (READ). Like said keep ur screen dim or on auto if u have that issue like me were ur constantly going in n out at work and find ur phone too dim for daylight. The darker your themes the better battery life. Remember that ur screen is one of the top (if not the top) battery drainers. Data, wifi, gps, bluetooth, auto-sync, running widgets, live wallpapers...if you dont need it on or could live without it, then either turn it off or get rid of it.
Also like said before, lithium-ion batteries dont suffer from memory effect like older rechargable batteries. If you could avoid it, dont run ur battery all the way down. Be free to charge ur battery as often as possible and that way you extend the life of ur battery.

Use the lowested sync frequency setting you can or manally sync. Wifi tether guzzles juice. Live wallpaper is a killer. Make task killing a subconscious reflex. The smaller the number is next to "running in background" also makes for more time away from an outlet. Of course these may not help any one else, but it works for me
Fully charge 2 batteries. Unlimited talk and text. True story

I run the ParanoidAndroid 2.51 rom (10/24) with the KKO kernel and it goes pretty good so far. It may be the first day of using it but I will expectedly average 20hours of use on it. (using the live wallpaper phase beam the whole time). Used the wheatly governor with SIO and changed the max cpu to about 1028 so its only using 1Ghz. (seem to get decent battery life)

[Q] Xperia S battery life very poor, its normal?

I just acquired a Xperia S one week ago, and then i realized that battery is very poor. with full charging it got three hours of use to hit 15%, during these three hours the phone was in flying/airplane mode. The first two hours i used memedroid with wi-fi and opera mobile navigation and downloads, the last hour i played temple run 2. Its normal such battery life? before this phone i had a lg p990 which i considered very very poor the battery life, but the xperia s just broke the record. sorry for bad english, i'm brazilian '-'
my average battery usage is about 9 hours, usually unplug from charger about around 7am, around 4pm battery empty.
Androids aren't popular for battery life. But it can be increased by doing several customizations since Androids are meant for customizations.
So before complaining please check the battery life related threads in General sections. You'd find many tweaks and tips from other users.
Hello Jr, i´m BR too. Write in english ...bad english....rs
My battery life in LT26i is 12h with all things "on": BT, GPS, 3G and WIFI. I install PAC ROM V19 , but when i have Stock ROM my battery life is the same with updated system. Maybe your phone have any problem and you can change if have NF and between 7 days of purchase. You see the "battery stats" in "Setting" to see how apks drain battery ?
Hello m8 .
There are several ways to check if your battery is OK (but I think it should be, as Android device with HD screen just eat battery)
First of all, we can check if you battery health is good. To do that, in phone dialer enter this code: *#*#7378423#*#* (it's same as: *#*#SERVICE#*#*). There enter to "Service tests" > Battery Health Test. In my phone it looks like in photo in attachment. Don't worry if value in "Actual Batt(uAh)" is lower than 1750mAh. When you use your phone correctly, I can be around 1650~, too, but after fully charging this "counter" sometimes reset. More important thing is information, that health is good, and battery is no need to be replaced.
If this part is correct, now enter Settings > Battery. Here you can find information what consume your battery in pertencage of currently "eaten" % battery (example: You have 80% battery remaining, so you've lost 20%. There's information, that "Screen" or anything else eat 60% of battery. It means, that in these 20% of current lost battery -> It has been lost for screen).
Most discharging things in our phone are:
Screen - try to turn off Mobile Bravia Engine if not used (not watching movies), and decrease brightness.
WiFi & Data Transfer - If not used, turn off your WiFi.
Hope this helps
Also remember that the first charges are smaller.
Hopefully I'm helping an not hindering...so here we go.
I ran AnTuTu tester on my Sony XPERIA S 1750mAh battery which is reported to be in good health.
Now I'm not sure how much faith I place in this application as it didn't list my CPU usage, where on my XPERIA X10i it did.
My XPERIA S is rooted and using RaymanFX' ELiTE kernel with GPU and CPU over-clocked.
I started the test with my battery fully charged.
I got a battery life from 100% to 19% of 1hr and 50min using a 1750mAh battery on a dual-core CPU clocked at 1566MHz.
Yes, I know, that scared me too.
The same test on my Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10i returned the following.
I got a battery life from 100% to 19% of 3hr and 17min using a 1800mAh battery on a single-core CPU clocked at 1113MHz.
Now this may not be as bad as things look as we have two CPUs ripping into a battery compared to 1 CPU so there may be pause for reflect and thought on this battery usage in this case.
So, long story short, if you run the same test at 1.5GHz (stock ROM) and you get a battery life of approx 1hr and 50mins (or more) using the AnTuTu Tester your battery should be able to give you a days usage in moderation.
This is not exactly science, but it may give some indication if your XPERIA S(LT26i) 1750mAh battery is operating in a 'normal' threshold.

So that's why I bought external battery for phones from Sony, CP-EL. 2000mAh.

but this 2000mAh has a higher size compared to the stock 1750 battery, anyway, it works fine?

Since i bought my phone the mobile bravia engine is turned on.... i did the test and the battery health is good, i will try to close apps and decrease the brightness, and see if a get a decent battery life. I use only wifi, no data transfer, and 2G connection. If i cant get success i will wait for sony's JB update.
The guy who posted the benchmark up there should be reminded that you're using a dual core in Xperia S plus each core is built on 45nm technology which means that the newer snapdragon phones are likely to be more battery conservative than the one used in xperia s because it produced around double the heat...
I changed my omnia II ([email protected]) to xperia s and I was shocked with its battery. now I got used to charging it twice a day with really heavy use or once for two days with normal use.
> Go for a ROM with minimum size and least applications. This lighter ROM saves battery by eliminating the junk running in the stock's background. Less CPU usage = Less battery drain
> Reduce the brightness to save power since the 4.3" 720p is a battery hog.
> You can also try switching on 3G and Wireless only when required.
But don't be worried (if you were), almost all androids suck at battery timing.
I relocked my bootloader and installed the original firmware and now android system is using up 66%.. though it still lasts 14 to 15 hours with average use, it can be much more, but i've no idea what the problem is.
BBS says "AlarmManager", but since I don't have root anymore I can't figure out which process/app is getting all these partial wakelocks :crying:

It's an external battery. Imagine it as you were charging your phone out of your notebook's battery. It is way bigger, so it uses just a part of it.

Yup. However, if you're using your phone normally during charging it will use full 2000mAh and there still won't be full but ex. You can watch about two full movies more for ex. during trip
