there was a way in the long long ago but can't find anything for JB era
reason? on vacation and don't want charges to enable airplane mode - but i don't use wired headphones (i always break the cable and end up with sound in one ear only) so need to have bluetooth but keep the data/voice disabled.
would also save on the battery a little to have data etc disabled (yes i know bluetooth uses up battery but would use more if the modem was enabled as well).
i think the note 2 would (after a test today) last me a full day of location tracking and music via bluetooth but would like to disable data etc anyway.
anyone have any ideas?
Airplane mode is to be used inside the airplane and that's it - no radio whatsoever will work, including BT
The easiest way to have what you want is to remove the SIM from the phone!
But if you want to make/receive calls but avoid DATA usage, then there is a setting:
"Settings>More settings>Mobile networks>Data roaming (uncheck it)
I hope it helps you!

cheers but i don't want to make/receive calls either. if i'm on holiday then quite frankly i don't want to be contactable. that, and the fact i'd rather save as much battery juice too.
is there a way to disable the radio/modem entirely but let bluetooth function normally?
my roaming isn't checked anyway. not needed in UK
Just turn on airplane mode. That will turn off everything wifi, bt, etc. Then turn bt back on while in airplane mode

i swear i tried that on my SGS2 and it didn't work under ICS.
cool, thanks

AFAIK, it's always worked on Android like that. Windows Mobile did, too. You should just try stuff out more!
it didn't work on my desire or my sgs2. trust me, i tried. afaik only CM roms (which i've never used) allowed it.
but, it works. yay!
Hmm? I can use Bluetooth in airplane mode.. always... in my nexus..
And I tried that day in note, Bluetooth work in airp mode actually

Using bluetooth during Airplane mode...on cyanogen
I heard that this was possible on the cyanogen rom, but it seems not be working. any thoughts on this?
can anyone shed some light on this issue?
I don't believe it is possible. When you put on airplane mode it is supposed to turn off all of the radio frequencies, bluetooth included.
That being said, I don't have Cyanogen so I can't base my answer 100%. It's just what would make sense to me.
I asked this question months ago: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=738527
but to no avail.
Now I am calling you developers out! jk
Is this something that is possible?
FYI I am running 10.22 Muiu ROM at the moment.
Thanks
Julian
The point of airplane mode is to disable any radio activity from the device because the FCC is paranoid about interference to the plane's systems from personal devices.
If you're willing to enable bluetooth you might as well go ahead and turn the phone back on. It doesn't make any sense to only enable bluetooth, its the same rule being broken on the plane.

I understand this point, but my Palm Pre would be able to still connect even if in Airplane mode. I believe cell phone interference was paramount to BT interference.
I am just trying to see if there was a hack that would enable it.
I run a lot with my BT headphones listening to music. I would like to completely turn off my cell radio so I do not get disturbed by SMS or calls or anything.
Thanks.

How can you disable all calls and data?
My 6y/o daughter wanted something similar to an iPod Touch or a Nintendo DS and since she is already familiar with the use of EVOs as my wife and I both have one we decided that would be the better route. Since there are no game cartridges to lose and for the iCrap my overal disdain for Apple. I will be installing CM7 on her EVO instead of having to deal with Sense. I am looking for her to basically have a media player keeping wifi and bluetooth functionality.
I know I can delete the mms.apk and phone.apk to remove the apps or I could hide them using LauncherPro. And I can deactivate the radio on each startup by using *#*#INFO#*#*, but would prefer to permanently turn off the phone radio off so it doesn't have to be done on each reboot. I could use airplane mode but I really want something more permanent than that even as little fingers can disable that.
I plan to delete the icons for the phone radio once this is complete so it doesn't show no signal all the time.
Any tips on how to permanently turn the phone radio off?
I actually do this myself on my second evo. I use CM 6.1.2 and just use airplane mode. I took the rom apart and pulled out everything i could. Basically there is only 20 system apks that you must have, or the phone will not boot or let you install anything. I haven't find anything better then airplane mode, but it seems to work great.
Keep in mind this wont allow you to do anything but play games. If you want music or photos, you need to leave those apps in.
Actually here is the list:
CM\AccountAndSyncSettings.apk
CM\ADWLauncher.apk
CM\CMParts.apk
CM\Contacts.apk
CM\ContactsProvider.apk
CM\DefaultContainerService.apk
CM\DownloadProvider.apk
CM\DrmProvider.apk
CM\LatinIME.apk
CM\MediaProvider.apk
CM\PackageInstaller.apk
CM\Phone.apk
CM\Settings.apk
CM\SettingsProvider.apk
CM\Superuser.apk
CM\TelephonyProvider.apk
GAPPS\GoogleServicesFramework.apk
GAPPS\MarketUpdater.apk
GAPPS\SetupWizard.apk
GAPPS\Vending.apk
Yeah I am really looking for something more permanent than Airplane mode but if I must that is something I can do. I am sure there must be a way to disable the radio I just need to find it. Also, Airplane mode disables bluetooth and GPS both are functionalities I would prefer to retain.
Is that what you leave in or take out? If it is what you leave in are you not able to remove the phone.apk?
1) Samsung has a "Galaxy Player" coming out. Basically Galaxy Player is to Galaxy S what iPod Touch is to iPhone. I wouldn't recommend anything samsung though.
2) Just give her an unactivated phone. It's guaranteed not to call or text...and one with a bad esn will be cheeep. It can only connect to the internet through wifi though.
EDIT: With unactivated phone GPS and bluetooth will still work.

Those are the ones i leave in. Phone wont work as the phone isn't activated. I don't use bluetooth or GPS, wifi works fine with airplane though. I found deleting the phone.apk caused it to FC alot.
I've already picked up a used EVO on the cheap, it isn't activated but it has a good ESN though which is a plus. I know it can't make regular calls or do text messaging (it can still dial 911 though as all unactivated phones can). My reason for wanting to eliminate all of the phone functionality is to save battery as it won't search for service, currently it still connects to the towers and if out of service it still searches.
Again just wanting to make more permanent changes than just using Airplane mode or widgets that small fingers can easily change.

OIC. I have something you can try.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887957
People say that it is just a placebo effect but I think it worked for my nook color. The battery life feels better. If something goes wrong you can just reflash cm and try again.
EDIT: On an evo you should probably delete mms.apk or sms.apk or whatever its called. I hope this works for you. If not you might need a custom rom built from the ground up to be non functional.
Hey guys. I was wondering if there's an easy way to make an NFC toggle such that when the tag is within range a) happens and when it goes out of range b) happens. Essentially I want my phone to into silent mode when i place it on my nightstand and go off silent mode when i remove the phone from the night stand.
I know a "workaround" is to make the tag toggle for each swipe but if possible I'd like to not have to swipe a second time to remove silent mode.
Any ideas?
Yeah, i'm looking for the same... i'm not sure if there is such a thing.
maybe one way would be for an app maker to have a feature where the nfc will be checked say every minute to see if it's still within range. if it is, leave the setting alone. if it's out of range, it will do the 'out of range' action. shouldn't draw much battery I don't think?
I want this feature so I can put a tag in my car so when i'm in the car, it will turn on bluetooth, and when I get the phone out of it's spot, it will turn BT back off. (so it's only on while i'm in the car)

that seems like a great app, but I don't think I ever paid 7 bucks for an app lol... and i've gotten some great apps for much less. just saying...
good idea though.
Tasker is well worth its money. You can replace so many apps with it that in the end you'll end up saving loads of money

I've used this in my car
I've faced the same problem in my car.
I've put a tag on the phone mount, when touched it enables car mode.
I've used tasker to take the phone out of car mode when my bluetooth HFP get's disconnected (when car is turned off, or I'm more than 5 m' away).
I can also do the same when the phone is unplugged from the car charger.
It's not perfect, but will work unless you turn the car of without removing the phone, and then on again (no NFC tap to re-enable the car mode).
Hope this helps someone
Hi there guys!
This is my first thread, there seems to have been a thread on every problem I've encountered until now..
I have a motorola bluetooth keyboard
and a samsung bluetooth mouse
The keyboard works amazingly well on its own on my note 2. However when I also connect the mouse it starts to lag and type like thissssss. It's so bad it makes the keyboard unusable as you spend more time correcting what you wrote.
If this was a case of normal interference, I'd call it bad luck and leave it there.. HOWEVER - I tested them both on my macbook pro and they work as intended together. Now this puzzles me greatly as I thought they were interfering with each other's frequency, so shouldn't that be independent of the device I'm using?
Since they can work together, I was wondering if anyone could help me out with any suggestions of what's going on so I can come to some kind of solution/fix?
Thanks, looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Any chance the cpu is underclocked (power saving mode in settings)?

Unfortunately it's not
Look for external keyboard helper in app store. Set delay settings to your liking. You will to have that set as your keyboard. Be aware that samsung keyboard tries to turn on depending on what Rom you ate running. I am somewhat disappointed in the bluetooth performance on my note 2. That is about all I am disappointed about.

Thank you so much! It worked like a charm! I actually already had the app installed, it was just set to no delay by default. I'm so glad I don't have to go out and replace my mouse
What exactly was it that disappointed you about the bluetooth performance?

On some of the ROM/kernels floating around I have had TERRIBLE bluetooth performance, voice wouldn't work to dial numbers over a bluetooth connection, but would work during a phone call, couldn't connect to more than one device without restarting the phone.
However Assassin Rom with the kernel that comes stock with it, that fixes all the problems I have had with bluetooth.

Oh man, I had no idea! It's been ok for what I've used it for, up until this problem, but now its fixed I'm pretty happy with it.
I just wished bluetooth used less battery.. or if the phone powered itself by creating energy :fingers-crossed: but thats probably only going to happen in 4.3
Also, try connecting to wifi using 5ghz (if you are on wifi). I have terrible problems when using 2.4ghz wifi and bluetooth together.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
This solved my problem.
There's just not enough bandwidth available for 3 simultaneous devices connected to the same device on 2.4GHz band.
I'm hoping someone can help out.
I picked up a used SGH-T989D (Telus, not T-Mobile) and I'm looking for a ROM that is done up so it can be used strictly as an MP3 player. I've seen plenty of posts about people since I've started working on this but nothing about any particular ROM to look at. Ideally, all radio would be turned off or removed except wireless.
At the moment I have the phone rooted with SuperLite 4.1.2 and running WinAmp to test with. I'm getting a constant problem with the system intermittently locking up for 2-3 seconds. When music is playing all audio stops during that time. Running apps only shows gapps and gservices running.
Does anyone know of a stripped down T989 ROM with battery and audio optimizations?

The problem with Airplane mode is you have manually go into the settings to allow the wireless to come up. Rebooting causes that the wireless to become disabled again. I know minor. The phone isn't going to be used as a phone anymore so I would prefer to have the radio turned off permanently.
