Flashing ROMs from external - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey, I am trying to flash cm 10 m2. But I keep getting errors, I've tried redownloading and everything. Does the s3 only flash ROMs if they are on the internal?

You need to update to the latest CMW. I also think I remember something out CMW not supporting external also. I would just suggest flashing from internal if you're having issues with external.

Im using the latest TWRP. I'll try using the external, having troubles getting the android file transfer to work constantly
EDIT, trying the same files from internal

Okay, I am getting an error called "assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device")
I have no idea why. Ive tried redownloading (once on phone and again from the PC), I have a roers phone and am downloading CM10 m2.
Im going to try AKOP. If that doesn't work, ill try CWM. Although TWRP definitely has better features and interface.
EDIT: okay, so it looks like your AKOP (tasks) is working. Cool. Any recommendations for kernels? or is stock good. I was using Trinity on the Gnex and very happy if that gives you any indication.

Transfer a ROM and COMPATIBLE kernel to your phone or sdcard. Do a FULL wipe (factory reset, cache and dcache). Install the ROM and kernel.
If that still doesn't work, use an ODIN image and flash via Odin. That'll solve the problem for sure.

pretty sure. do u have any suggestion or mayb a link on where to get a basic jb kernel and rom that is know to work. just so sick of the aokp the camera sux
There might be a box that you need to uncheck "md5"
Here. DL the jb stock kernel here. There is a cwm package zip so you don't have to flash the whole ROM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1892297

Installation 7 usually means it was a bad download. Have you tried just restoring a backup or flashing Odin stock.

[Q] Having problems upgrading roms

Any time I try to flash a rom or anything I keep getting this message: E:/error opening '/data/lost+found'
I've tried flashing different roms but it hasn't helped.
I'm having this weird problem where when I flash a new rom about 20 random apps are transferred over to the new rom. (like random games and apps)
Also every time I uninstall any app I get "cannot read data/xposed/modules.whitelist"
The app still uninstalls but this just concerns me.
Could anyone help me out? I just want to do a fresh install of liquid smooth.

Wipe everything, data, system, cache and dalvik
Then try reflashing your rom
Ok have you installed any app to sd type of application? It sounds like your internal storage is being read as external and visa versa.
Also i know there's lots of support for twrp but I swear by cwm when it comes to the GS3. I use twrp on my Nexus and that's fine but on the S3 cwm has always worked better in my opinion.
What roms are you trying to flash? They are sprint s3 roms right from this section?

I've done that. That's what the one post suggested.
I just don't understand why I'm still getting apps showing up when I install new roms.
What about wiping storage? I know you don't want to lose anything but it sounds like something in your storage causing this.

I haven't installed any app to sd type applications.
I do think part of the internal is being used as external but I thought that's just how it was.
I only have roms, nandroids, and titanium backups on my sd card.
I installed twrp because when I first started it seemed like that was what most people were recommending but it doesn't matter to me. I might switch.
Also I've been switching between cleanbean and liquid smooth, both from this section.
The main thing that bugs me is when uninstalling apps says "cannot read data/xposed/modules.whitelist"
The app still uninstalls but it just doesn't seem good.

A couple weeks ago, I was switching from a AOSP ROM to a TW ROM and I got the same error. Thinking it was TWRP, I hooked my phone up to my computer and flashed CWM. I then tried to flash the ROM in CWM and it was a no go. I still got the same error. I just decided to transfer all my data from my internal sd to my computer. I used Odin to flash the stock tar file. After that, I used QBKing77's method to root from recovery. Then I flashed my ROM and I got 0 errors. So all I had to do was start fresh haha. It took a bit of time because I was taking many precautions (as should you) Good luck!

Yes just as posted above, but before going the route of Odin back to stock. Copy all your files (important) from internal and external to your computer. Then boot into recovery no need to change now and reformat your internal and external storage, wipe cache and dalvik and fix permissions and reboot. Then download a fresh zip of a rom to flash and test it. If it all works then go through your files and move back what you need. I'm pretty sure you have a bunch of O folders in your internal.

[Q] [HELP] Troubles after flashing custom ROM

Hello everyone,
I recently flashed a custom ROM via CWM recovery. The ROM is Rootbox (thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2083922). I followed all the instructions given on the thread like Wiping data/factory resetting through CWM but I still am experiencing problems.
Okay so, I flashed gapps also and ROM worked smoothly and no problem at all. When I connected my mobile to laptop then I saw 5gb free of 12gb only. Obviously, ROM can't take space up to 5gb and when I had previous ROM, it had 5gb free at that time and yes, I did wipe data/factory reset. I can't find any files that were in my previous ROM in this Rootbox ROM even when connected to my laptop but when I went to recovery and tried installing a zip from CWM then I saw my files there that I had in my previous ROM but I can't say that if they were only folders or if they had actual files in it because I can't see .mp3 files or pictures via CWM. Please help me, I don't wanna revert back to stock.
Thank you!

Chances are you've fallen into the /0 folder trap...
Google added this with the the aosp builds for user switching. Not wiping properly can make these folders replicate and take up loads of space.
Whenever I flash a new rom I always wipe my internal sd. Prevents multiple files getting out of hand and it's great to have a fresh start.

[Q] help w/ omni rom 4.4 please

This is my first time posting so if this is in the wrong place or anything I am sorry. I cannot post a question on the Dev post because I haven't got enough posts or something. So my issue is, I have the omni ROM with KitKat for t889, the newest version the dev has posted, it says in his post that the problem with the SD card not working is fixed, however I am still not able to use mine. It is a 64 GB, I have tried a fresh clean install of everything, formatting the SD card, partitioning the SD card, everything I can think of! I cannot change it to the fat32 because that option does not even show up for me on my computer or my phone. If I try and click on the SD card error, which says blank or unsupported files, and try to format from there is just reboots the phone and does nothing else, so I tried formatting on my laptop, and through cwm. I had also tried using twrp to install, but it gave me the same issues. Any help or suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!!
Try a different kernel. Devil2 kernel is great. Or you can flash a 4.1.2 firmware. Format your card through settings and then try loading new rom.

Thank you for the suggestions!! I tried reverting back to a couple of earlier versions and formatting, that didn't help... However I cannot find any of the devil kernels that are compatible for my device and 4.4, do you know where I may could look? I googled it, but not certain I know exactly what to look for. Thank you again for your suggestions!!

I have, I did like it more than some of the other Roms I have tried, I have just been trying out the 4.4 KitKat to see if I like it, more than likely I will be reverting back to 4.3 or something just because of the current bugs with the few Roms available, but have been enjoying testing out the new stuff.

[Q] Can't install zips

Hi
So I decided to install CyanogenMod on my Galaxy Nexus. I unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP, but when I tried to install the .zip, I got an error 'Error executing updater binary'. Tried CWM too, got Status 7. How can I fix this? Thanks
Maybe a corrupted download. Try re-downloading it.

I'm trying to flash the latest Cyanogenmod nightly, I'm sure it's flashable and I have reinstalled the recovery several times already. Even tried an older version of TWRP.

Okay so how I did that was I actually just installed the latest stable cm10. Then I went to the update section in settings and tapped update. It will update you to the cm11 snapshot, that is as far as I went but it also allows you to update to night builds as well. So just install cm10 and go from there, that's what I did at least unless somebody chimes in an easier way.

Ok, I reset it to stock, flashed TWRP recovery, installed CM10.2 and the 4.3 GApps package and updated it through CM Updater. For some reason, it worked! Thanks! The 4.4 GApps install was also successful, and now I have CM11 nightly! Thank you very much for your help!
