Hello everyone,
I recently flashed a custom ROM via CWM recovery. The ROM is Rootbox (thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2083922). I followed all the instructions given on the thread like Wiping data/factory resetting through CWM but I still am experiencing problems.
Okay so, I flashed gapps also and ROM worked smoothly and no problem at all. When I connected my mobile to laptop then I saw 5gb free of 12gb only. Obviously, ROM can't take space up to 5gb and when I had previous ROM, it had 5gb free at that time and yes, I did wipe data/factory reset. I can't find any files that were in my previous ROM in this Rootbox ROM even when connected to my laptop but when I went to recovery and tried installing a zip from CWM then I saw my files there that I had in my previous ROM but I can't say that if they were only folders or if they had actual files in it because I can't see .mp3 files or pictures via CWM. Please help me, I don't wanna revert back to stock.
Thank you!

Chances are you've fallen into the /0 folder trap...
Google added this with the the aosp builds for user switching. Not wiping properly can make these folders replicate and take up loads of space.
Whenever I flash a new rom I always wipe my internal sd. Prevents multiple files getting out of hand and it's great to have a fresh start.

Today I tried the new method to obtain S-off and root my 2.3.3 Evo. All went fine but now my phone will only boot into the clockwork recovery tool. How can I fix my phone or get it back to normal?
Have you tried to flash a ROM?
You can try to download and flash a ROM from this site.
Also can you get to your bootloader by pressing volume down and power if so you can find an ruu to put on your sd to put you back to stock.

I tried to flash a cm7 but I got a status error 7 so I am downloading synergy now.
Make sure you wipe everything but sdcard.
Also its possible you got a bad download I also recommend using Amon ra 2.3

I tried installing Synergy but I got the following messages:
assert failed: write_raw_image_("/tmp/boot.img","boot")
E:Error in /sdcard/Synergy-RLS1-supersonic.zip (status 7)
You might have a bad dl are you downloading from your phone on 3g.
And you should try this recovery I had nothing but problems with cwm when I first rooted and went to ra and never looked back.

You can also try flashing this before you flash a ROM it will wipe for you and don't worry it won't wipe your sdcard.

First thing first make a nandroid backup then you can download that vr-superwipe I posted but I'm not really 100% if that works in cwm recovery but when you wipe wipe everything but your sdcard well you don't really have to wipe stats but I don't even think that option is in cwm.
You should really think about switching to Amon ra 2.3 if you haven't you can even flash it from ROM Manager.

Sorry for bringing this dumb thread back to the top but I couldn't start a whole new thread for one of my stupid questions. I wanted to know if a nandroid backup backs up everything? Like, could I do a back up then wipe my entire phone of everything, install a new rom, and then go back to my old rom from loading the backup?

Hey guys! Its been a while since I've rooted a phone (HTC Inspire 4G) but last night I rooted my S3. Today I was checking storage and it says I have 2.62GB left on my internal SD card. I run the numbers on apps, downloads, etc. and it just doesn't add up to using 9GBs of space. I'm running LiquidSmooth with gapps (which downloaded my previous apps from stock via my account). Can someone help me out with this? Even if I have to completely wipe the storage space to get the room back, I'm fine with that. I just don't like not having space especially when there should be way more since there are no pictures or music on the phone. Thanks everyone and its good to be back flashing!

I'm also running into an issue finding flashable .zips that are in my /download folder in Astro but not found when using CWM. Weird...
*Edit*
Disregard not being to find them... Apparently I have a separate folder labeled /sdcard/0 that I have no idea how it was made... Is there a .exe to full wipe/format my sdcard so I can start with a clean slate and then simply restore my current ROM/Kernel? Factory reset, format system, wiping cache and dalvik cache then restoring backup isn't working.

It's not hard to realize that if you're asking a question it should probably be in the forum labeled questions and answers. Think before you post.

It is now that I reported it for being in the wrong section and a mod moved it.
Think before you post.
Anyways, the internal SD card is always going to have much less space then as advertised on the phone. My phone is a 16GB and out of the box I think it had like 13 or so.
You can install TWRP from Goo Manager and use that recovery to make a backup, format your internal storage, then restore data from a backup if you really think you're missing space, but honestly you probably arent.
Thank you for noticing that it was in the wrong forum Tekno.... And for getting that fixed. I understand I have less than advertised but before I rooted it, I backed up all the pictures onto my computer. My phone has no pictures or music on it so I'm trying to figure out where 10GBs have gone.
I will look up TWRP and hopefully that will help...

Well if you've already backed up that you may as well just backup your contacts and anything else you may need and start clean. And by that I mean do a full wipe before flashing a ROM and don't restore data after.

Well, I'm a little too late for all of that now. I soft bricked the phone. Using CWM, I managed to erase everything from the sdcard. All files, all folders, everything. Now when the phone boots it hangs at the "Samsung Galaxy S III" screen. I can, however, get into Download Mode and Recovery Mode. Unfortunately for me though, I do not have the stock ROM .tar and cannot download it due to workstation restrictions. I can also get to Recovery Mode but I have absolutely no files on the sdcard at all and I can't figure out a way to force push LiquidSmooth onto the phone. I receive recognition of connection via ODIN but that program only uses .tar/.gz/.img/etc. and I can't put the LiquidSmooth .zip on that way. Hopefully someone can bring me a copy of the Stock ROM in to work tomorrow as I'm on duty and won't be able to leave work for a while (days).
Oh, it's been a while since I've bricked a phone also. Those days I don't miss...
Are there any other options that I may not have exhausted?

Well heres a few things you can try:
1) ADB to push the rom to the phone
2) Use a proxy service to download original firmware (not sure if your workplace would like that though), Heres a link to the stock ATT firmware, not rooted, pure stock from sammobile http://www.hotfile.com/dl/182319352/b8d55a6/I747UCDLK3_I747ATTDLK3_ATT.zip.html
3) Ask to borrow a co-workers phone to download the file
Thanks Tekno. Finally back online...

Ok guys, these are modded versions of TDJ's tools to add the preload partition. This should allow you to wipe cache and dalvik without jacking up the symlinks. Also for you guys having issues installing a ROM, the superwipe should fix that. First flash the ROM and reboot (important), then if you are having issues flash the super wipe and then the ROM again. Reboot and you should be good.
Thanks again TDJ!!! You rock bro.
Note to other developers: Feel free to link here from your thread, just don't re-upload them please. Thanks

I used these scripts installing a ROM and I am having very serious issues. I was using Clockwork and when I rebooted I got stuck in a boot loop. I booted back into recovery but I was not getting fully back into recovery. I tried several times. I finally ODINed back to stock but I can't get the ****ing phone to boot up. It gets toa popup that says ""unfortunatley google partner setup has stopped" and then if I clear that "Google account manager has stopped", "google calender storage has stopped""unfortuantely the process com. android.phone has stopped". ****. I have tried ODIN to 3.5 stock and 4.0.3 both having similar issues.
Anyone have any idea, may have absolutley nothing to do with these scripts but any ideas would be very much appreciated.
What are you running and what are you trying to flash? Wouldn't be the scripts as they only wipe, format, align the partitions.

I was running CWM 6.0.2.9 touch and trying to flash the StockWalk ROM. I don't know if you have seen something like this before but it seems like I am totally unable to install any GAPPS even when flashing stock ROM in ODIN. I had flashed the same ROM before attempting to use the scripts, the reason was that I was unable to add my google account (may be a defect in the ROM but others are saying they have not had issue).
*when I say install GAPPS I am just refering to the ones that install on TW ROMS, I am not flashing a GAPPS file of any kind

OK so I thought I knew enough to not feel like a noob, but here I am with three questions.
First question is what is a "preload problem"?
Second question is this will only work on 4.1.2, and not 4.2.2 (CM 10.1)?
And the third question is will using the original DS wipes mess something up?
T mobiles 4.1.2 loads a preboot partition. Wiping cache with anything but these scripts also wipes these partitions. This script is modified to not do that. No preboot partition = boot loop.
Thus, if you're on anything BUT Tmobiles 4.1.2 you don't need this script and there's no advantage to using it.

Put any ROM you want to flash on your external and reboot back into recovery.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Just transfer the files to a micro sd card. If you don't have one or can't for some reason, you could always flash back to the stock ROM with kies or odin, and then transfer the files back to your phone.
thanks a lot, up and running !
though i have a camera problem, i'm assuming this is ROM related so i'll post it in the PA Nightlies.

I'm just curious how to install a rom on it when your supposed to erase all data on the device. I have already backed up my entire os and saved my efs to my pc. i backed up twrp (after rom backup of course), freegee, and efs folders to my pc as requested. If I erase everything on my device, my rom won't be there to install. I've never installed on a phone that didn't have external storage (which is where i normally put my rom). Sounds like you're all ready.
So in TWRP since that's your choice, put the rom of your choice on the SD. Then in TWRP, go to Wipe, then factory reset. Then Advanced select everything except internal storage. That's your sd. Then flash away.

For stock, stock runs really well as does OpTimuS DE. OpTimus has some G2 tweaks also.
The CM/AOSP ROMs are all really good. The most common issues seem to be camera, and lately something to do with SD. So read up on the thread of the rom you what to install.
I really can't recommend one over another, as they all have their good and bad.
Mostly good though as the devs are really good about fixing the issues.
You're gonna like every ROM you install.
