Just got my S3 yesterday in anticipation of running ARLiberator with my AppRadio 2 headunit to have a full fledge android experience in my car
Tried out AOKP as I've had nothing but good experiences in the past on my other devices. Then I found out Allshare Cast isn't available on AOKP and is only on Sammy TW ROMs
I'm planning on connecting the phone to my AppRadio with the Allshare Cast Dongle so that was a dealbreaker for me. Running JB747 M7 for now.. definitely not as customizable as AOKP. ALso not a big fan of the cartoony UI in the TW ROMs
Allshare Cast requires TW Frameworks right? Any chance a hybrid ROM could be put together?

I doubt there will ever be a hybrid. Solely because the devs who make aosp did so because of the fact that they disliked touchwiz layout or features. If your looking for an all share cast type app look no further. Just search Imediashare on appstore works the same but for every modern TV not just Samsung TVs.

From what I read Allsharecast does what Miracast does, but is proprietary to Sammy. Best I understand Miracast is a full mirroring of the phone on a display, sans wires, just like allsharecast. I am pretty excited about all the incredible things 4.2 had to offer behind the scenes. Now I have to find something so I can miracast to my Sony TV.
I was on AOSP roms for a while but then realized that I missed the direct call and palm mute apps of the TW. So I was wishing for the same thing
Yah, I had my AOKP customized all nicely until I realized Allshare was gone
Really wish it would be as simple as stripping some APKs out from stock rom and installing them
On T-Mobile I believe they have some aospish roms which look like aosp/cm9/10 but really are touchwiz. I believe the reason is not necessarily because of TW features but because for what ever reason non TW that I know of (maybe it's changed since I last looked) take advantage of the hspa+42, so you can still have vanilla android along with 20/mbps download time. The most I got on cm10 was about 8 mbps where as on the wiz I have gotten up to 23mbps although I average about 7-15

I didn't want to make it seem like I was endorsing flashing roms across carriers. One person said he was able to flash a verzion rom on his device.
I can't find the tw/hybrid rom anyways which is why I came back. I am sure there is a blue wiz rom out there on AT&T just flash that and use aosp launcher like apex or nova.

Great, one more thing that is really cool but doesn't work in AOSP. arghh.
I was thinking of going the AppRadio 2 also. Glad to have found out before I did, that I could have problems while on AOSP related ROM.
And we're probably looking at another month or two before any really cool, stable, themed 4.2.2 ROM's are put out.

I don't see a ROM section of the forum. Though it would be nice if there was a ROM section.
There is development section that the developers of ROMs post and others talk about those ROMs. But nowhere to talk about what ROM you are using and what benefit you are getting from the ROM that you are using.

I am using mrRobinson's root66_TMO_T889UVALK8.7z (injected stock root rom) with XposedMultiWindow. Custom Flash trigger at "no" (basically that is at "0") and Status at "normal". Basically allows me to be rooted and use any app I like with Multi-Windows with these two mods
There are some ROMs that either add a few apps for music & such and/or sometimes take out TouchWiz. But nothing that I feel worth installing the other ROMs for.
I use TouchWiz to setup a few settings, including Lock Screen wallpaper. Then the rest of the time TouchWiz is off my RAM. I am doing everything that I like and need in root. Enjoying multi-windows with whatever apps I like. I did a few more mods too, like disable the "Battery Charged" notification, etc. Now my Note 2 is the way I like it. Though I would like more internal storage (64gb or more) and 1080 or higher resolution screen. But I will have to wait for Note 3 for those.
One more thing I like to have is LTE. Coming sometime in 2013. Hopefully before Note 3 gets released. [Fingers crossed]. And always look forward to Android OS updates.

Stock, rooted, xposed multi-window. I personally like the stock rom and don't really need all the bells and whistles. Plus, I've found that many custom roms seem to have stability issues.

I suspect he's suggesting your post belongs in the Q&A section, not the General Discussion section.
I think it's kind of silly to have both, personally, and there's an awful lot of crossover between the two in most forums anyways, and some don't even have separate sections for each.

Really, no one can give you a straightforward answer without knowing what it is about the S Pen you want to keep. The air view and the like? If so, JediROM has those TouchWiz features as I recall. Otherwise, just about any ROM for the SGN2 will work.

NFC Issue
I've rooted my GNII, I'm still with the stock ROM, and have GoogleWallet. I have an NFC that happens every so often. Mainly when I run my camera app, music player app, and GooglePlay. My phone will freeze for about 5 secs then a window pops up saying "unfortunately, NFC service has stopped". I have tried multiple "NFC Fixes" by flashing them in CWM and manually moving the files in Root Explorer with no success. GW works fine along with everything else. It's just horribly irritating. If I flash JellyThunder, will this alleviate the problem?

What Rom are u on#1?
And have you tried this yet?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475
And I'm wondering what caused your problem in the first place. I bet it's how you got Google Wallet working on your stock firmware. Because I seen something b4, about changing/fixing your nfc file.:what: In order to get wallet working! So I didn't try it. And when Jelly Thunder came out and said Google Wallet worth no problems. I was very excited, with everyone eke that wanted it.
So all that being said: I WILL SAY THAT I HAVE NOT HAD ANY ISSUES WYETH THIS ROM WHAT SO EVER!
So I would try to do a clean wipe of your system. Then install the Rom and give it a few days to c how it quirks out for you. OR you can just wait for the NEW RELEASE COMING SOON! !

I've decided to give carbon a try and in all honesty I don't see any benefit of it vs jedi/tw roms. Camera has no low light option, and its rather important to me; call audio is just terrible, scratchy. Besides, i like all that Samsung "crap".

Well I tried flashing them all. And to my dismay, there is a BIG problem. I can't download any apps until I clear the play store and download manager. Then I have to download them all manually. Different strokes. I like being on the latest version of Android and Wolfson audio is better than anything out there. I have no call issues. I have had 3 Nexus devices b4 this one. I prefer AOSP.

it tells you how to disable to soft buttons in the thread. you go into interface and make it "0"
I'm running Task650 AOKP on my S4 and I love it!!! I wish it did have some features Paranoid Android has but I am about 97% satisfied.
I'm thinking about flashing the GE Rom but i'm not sure I want to lose all the extra features that I get with a custom ROM.
Make sure you read the change logs and all the features to make sure its what you want.
Try Moon Rom version 1....touchwiz, floating windows, and tablet and Hanley mode...n7105 Rom working great on T-Mobile...I'm also using devil kernel and recovery dual boot, so I can choose my paranoid Rom on the fly when I want to.... best of both worlds...

Will the release of this device mean that the the "samsung" s4 will be able to get official google updates without having to wait on samsung (provided that you root the phone and install the google factory image)?:highfive:
It'll be a good thing, but the tmobile s4 is hands down the "it phone" in America-town already. Just wait til a few more devs get the phone

No after reading a few posts the updates will be sent to Samsung and they will have a time frame to release it for the google version.

Since they will have identical hardware, the G.E. rom can be dumped and turned into a custom rom with ease I assume. S4 will have 100% stable TouchWiz and AOSP (so to speak). I'm speculating as I haven't looked too much into this though.
Would WiFi Calling work if this were to happen?

No Wi-fi calling wont work on a AOSP based rom.

Oh okay, thanks. Guess I can't flash any AOSP roms until I move.

It is a closed sourced feature. So it won't make it into any open source OS version.

I don't see what the big deal is. You xan get aosp roms on our phones right now. I never used touchwiz before owning this phone, but I do have to admit I like it. I flashed the few aosp roms floating around and immediately missed the features tw offers (remote control, air gestures, etc).
Ive come from all AOSP devices and I have to say it doesn't compliment the hardware on this phone imo.

I see pros and cons with the google s4. While it will be great that the device will be up to date with the latest android, the vanilla android won't be able to make use of all the hardware features the device has to offer. But a big con with google s4 is that it only comes with 16GB internal storage.

The obvious difference will be that everything will function properly.
There is ALWAYS something broke or not quite right with AOSP/CM Ports. Bluetooth, tethering, camera... you name it.
So...its obviously a little different than... "why not just flash CM or AOSP now!?"... Official Google support for the S4 is a HUGE deal.
This means nothing for me. I'm not about to pay for a device that I can do the same thing with my already owned sgs4. Flash an aosp rom. But maybe it's more than that I would assume

Whose to say this device something won't be broken. And it's quite obvious stuff will be broken but that's okay with me for any rom. I know I can expect a fix a lot faster.
For me, it's an overpriced and enlarged Nexus 4.
It lacks all the Samsung features (I know some people don't like that). It only has the vanilla Android on it which will have the same features as the Nexus 4.
Why do I need to pay $649.99 for the phone which has the same features as the one that only cost $299.99 (Nexus 4)? I know S4 is bigger, faster, blah blah blah but it's $350 different.
On the other hand, with AOSP rom available, for sure we will have better 3rd party ROM such as CM, AOKP, etc. I am actually happy to see that.
P.S. I am just sharing my opinion. No offense. =]

Im thinking its because they know that devs will make it possible to odin stock touchwiz to the nexus s4 and activate the sensors which is one of the big highlights of the phone.

So you're saying people are going to buy the nexus S4 just to flash to stock tw? Makes sense

No more like samsung is trying to protect their investment. Imagine if they sold at the price of a nexus and you could odin stock rom. People would be saving 300+ bucks while others paid 640 and up. Its just a matter of being fair.

The aosp roms I've used have all been very stable for the most part. Just because Google will be releasing it does not mean it'll be completely bug free. I just don't find it exciting if it's not utilizing all the new tech Samsung has added.
No one really knows what's in store, but losing the ir blaster and the other sensors' functionality seems like a step backwards imo. I've owned all the nexus devices and have flashed aosp ROMs on every phone I have owned. It just doesn't excite me on this S4.
I actually like touch wiz this time around (minus the cartoon ui and bloatware).

Hi,
New to S4 (just came from HTC One). Looking to flash a ROM that is close to stock, but improves performance, removes bloat, and perhaps adds some features. Mostly looking for performance improvement as I've noticed very slight lag/stutter in a few places (before anyone jumps on me, the lag/stutter I notice is certainly minimal and not severe . Don't want CM or GE right now as I want/need to maintain some stock/TouchWiz features (i.e. Wifi Calling).
There are so many ROMs in the development sections- any suggestions?
Thanks much!
Wicked ROM. or even Infamous S4. Both tmobile base Rom which retained Wi-Fi calling with lots of added features.

Good for you.
But to the OP Infamous and Wicked are in my opinion the best 2 Tmo touchwiz ROMs available.
But of course everyone has different preferences so I suggest try them all out and go with the one that best suits you.
If you use all the air and hover controls and WiFi calling, stay with Roms like wicked and other touchwiz based roms. If you don't use these and would like a sleek look then go for Google Edition 4.3. In my opinion I love 4.3 and could not ask for more. Of course that is my opinion though so I recommend try all if not most of the tw romsz then the 4.3 and then make your decision. Remember to reset flash counter if you plan to get it fixed if brick though

Make a backup before installing any ROM though so if you don't like 4.3 then you can go back to 4.2.2 without a problem

As this will undoubtedly turn into a "best rom" thread (which are not allowed here), I will have to close this one. You will have to just research and try them for yourself, OP. Thank you for understanding. :highfive:
