Hi,
New to S4 (just came from HTC One). Looking to flash a ROM that is close to stock, but improves performance, removes bloat, and perhaps adds some features. Mostly looking for performance improvement as I've noticed very slight lag/stutter in a few places (before anyone jumps on me, the lag/stutter I notice is certainly minimal and not severe . Don't want CM or GE right now as I want/need to maintain some stock/TouchWiz features (i.e. Wifi Calling).
There are so many ROMs in the development sections- any suggestions?
Thanks much!
Wicked ROM. or even Infamous S4. Both tmobile base Rom which retained Wi-Fi calling with lots of added features.

Good for you.
But to the OP Infamous and Wicked are in my opinion the best 2 Tmo touchwiz ROMs available.
But of course everyone has different preferences so I suggest try them all out and go with the one that best suits you.
If you use all the air and hover controls and WiFi calling, stay with Roms like wicked and other touchwiz based roms. If you don't use these and would like a sleek look then go for Google Edition 4.3. In my opinion I love 4.3 and could not ask for more. Of course that is my opinion though so I recommend try all if not most of the tw romsz then the 4.3 and then make your decision. Remember to reset flash counter if you plan to get it fixed if brick though

Make a backup before installing any ROM though so if you don't like 4.3 then you can go back to 4.2.2 without a problem

As this will undoubtedly turn into a "best rom" thread (which are not allowed here), I will have to close this one. You will have to just research and try them for yourself, OP. Thank you for understanding. :highfive:

I don't see a ROM section of the forum. Though it would be nice if there was a ROM section.
There is development section that the developers of ROMs post and others talk about those ROMs. But nowhere to talk about what ROM you are using and what benefit you are getting from the ROM that you are using.

I am using mrRobinson's root66_TMO_T889UVALK8.7z (injected stock root rom) with XposedMultiWindow. Custom Flash trigger at "no" (basically that is at "0") and Status at "normal". Basically allows me to be rooted and use any app I like with Multi-Windows with these two mods
There are some ROMs that either add a few apps for music & such and/or sometimes take out TouchWiz. But nothing that I feel worth installing the other ROMs for.
I use TouchWiz to setup a few settings, including Lock Screen wallpaper. Then the rest of the time TouchWiz is off my RAM. I am doing everything that I like and need in root. Enjoying multi-windows with whatever apps I like. I did a few more mods too, like disable the "Battery Charged" notification, etc. Now my Note 2 is the way I like it. Though I would like more internal storage (64gb or more) and 1080 or higher resolution screen. But I will have to wait for Note 3 for those.
One more thing I like to have is LTE. Coming sometime in 2013. Hopefully before Note 3 gets released. [Fingers crossed]. And always look forward to Android OS updates.

Stock, rooted, xposed multi-window. I personally like the stock rom and don't really need all the bells and whistles. Plus, I've found that many custom roms seem to have stability issues.

I suspect he's suggesting your post belongs in the Q&A section, not the General Discussion section.
I think it's kind of silly to have both, personally, and there's an awful lot of crossover between the two in most forums anyways, and some don't even have separate sections for each.

I wanna know what are the best ROM's and Apps and tweaks for the note 2 are. I've played with most roms on the note 1. My Favorite was Jellybam besides all the daily updates. I love the stock TW because of the battery performance. Amazing lasts for a long time. I am more of a cyanogenmod based OS. What's some good roms with customization and really good battery life like the stock TW. I'd appreciate all the suggestions

Jedi Master 13 with Saberkernel 23 is by far the best TW ROM for this phone (in my opinion). Jellybam is the best AOSP 4.2.2 ROM (in my opinion). Jellybam is banned from XDA though, you have to go to bam android to download the rom.

^^This! If you're so experienced flashing roms and such then you should know there is no best rom. You should also know how easy it is to read the OP in the rom that interests you. You should also know to make a Nandroid and flash the ones that interest you and restore back if it doesn't meet your criteria.

I tried Jedi but a lot of things that WOULD, normally work wouldn't work for me(videos 4 one). So I moved on to something else!! What makes a Rom the best, because it best fits the person and their opinions, and there likes!! Not because everyone thinks it's the best. Or it has a bunch of pages in the thread.
If you want to look at something else, that most of the time everything just works out the box. Kinda like stock with a lil speed & flare.

Rules are rules.
Number 1 rule is to search before posting. There are many theads asking this same question, so why answer it? Keep your suggestions to yourself on telling me how to reply to posts. As you can see my post got three "thanks" yours got none. Thanks, have a good day.
The best ROM is the one you decide on yourself and love. No one can tell you what is best for you, for how you use your phone, for the colors and icons you like...you have to backup, read, flash a few and decide which is best for you. If you read the ROM threads you will see they are all the best for those that use them
I'm looking for a custom rom and I need your help. Looking for a custom ROM that has the look of the default touchwiz without all the bloat. I want it to be very fast too! Also it needs to be actively developed. I really don't want to jump from rom to rom. I did look at Clean ROM but I heard it's not being actively developed anymore. :crying:
I hope someone here can help me out. Thank you.
Try them out yourself man, that's the fun part! Even though a thread might say the features a rom has it'll feel different once you actually flash and try it out. I'd suggest you try out wicked, infamous or goldeneye. First two are feature packed and stable, while goldeneye is nice and simple but super smooth and debloated. Personally, I find myself switching between all 3.

Oh and another thing... A rom that is very simple without a lot of mods and features isn't going to be updated as often because of the fact that it doesn't have a lot of features, so you're kind of asking for opposite things.

Thread asking about "which is the best rom" are generally prohibited on XDA because there is no answer.
Only YOU can decide which is the best ROM for YOU. Features that make a rom great for me might be irrelevant to you. Even if we both value the same features it then depends on how you and I use them differently. And finally it just cones down to taste.
You have to try different ones out and decide for yourself.

Let me clarify. I don't want to know "who has the best ROM". That's like asking who has the best car. I asked what ROM would fit what I want.
This is what I want:
I want to keep the stock look of the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4. I want it to be very FAST! I want to get rid of the bloat. Also I want this ROM to be actively developed. I really like the camera app on my phone. It's very fast to take pictures now and I like the look of it.
I looked at Clean ROM but sadly I heard it's no longer being actively developed. Clean ROM would have been perfect.
There are a lot of ROM's out there. Is there a website that lists all of them and it shows the pros and cons on each of them. Also listing the features.
they are all good in their own way, you must try them yourself...
here is a good place to start...

I have CR ATT SE 3.0 and it really has quite a few annoying issues. I'd like to switch ROMs. I don't care if it's AOSP or modified stock ROM. I just want it to be relatively bug free and good for at least a couple months without having to do another big ROM switch.
Also if it's AOSP someone will have to bring me up to speed on how to get over to it from stock 4.1.2. I don't think it's just a simple wipe and flash.

If you're on Clean Rom then you might want to stick to a TW based Rom. You can just move to the most recent Clean Romthat's out..
That way you shouldn't run into any issues with it.
But there are also a lot of good AOSP Rom out there if you really have to install one. Just check the one stop shop for your Rom needs!!

He's never going to get the same experience as someone else anyway. He should pick a rom he thinks looks interesting and run it for a few days to see if it's running well on his device. He's the one who should be looking through them and learning how to do the whole process from you.

All of the roms are good, and all have their own little touch, you would need to flash a couple and see which one floats the boat, all of the people here are correct....just find the one that fits you best....
Good luck.

OK, thanks guys, I've decided to give him the slimkat rom I mentioned earlier. I just have to get home first and prep the files for rooting then installing the room, I'm most definitely going to teach him how to do it him self. If this were my note 3 I would've tried so many roms by) within the first 24 hrs of having the device lol.
If he wants AOSP, I've tried most of them and, in my opinion, Sinless ROM GooglePlay Rendition is the best. SUPER FAST. Or Gummy Rom which is also great. If he wants TW, I would go either Jedi or DarthStalker although they're both JB. TW kitkat I would go with MyRom, but its a bit finicky.

One of the roms that I like personally is X note rom. It's a rom for international version hence there's a need to flash a fix file.
Currently it's based on kit Kat and hence I am waiting for a proper kernel and the fix file.
This rom has some good features that are useful for me

Hmm, I love AOSP, but I'm not sure I'd load up AOSP for someone who can't figure out how to do it themselves. More than likely, it will not be as stable or feature rich for the end user as compared with TW. I would highly recommend Tweaked 2.0. It's stock based, and all the options/features implemented are completely stable and do not interfere with each other. Tweaked is what you can load for your significant other without having to hear them complain 3 days later about how their "phone messed up".
Jedi Elite v5 w/ Saber.
The ROM is super stable, solid and clean. Battery life is excellent.
Look no further...just flash this ROM.
