Codename-Android-(JoyRide)-3.6.5.10012012-ALPHA - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4g Touch
I have recently installed this new ROM and I love it! One down of it is the battery life. But I've disabled google now services and my battery improved at almost 40% lol It's nice to have it but It's also annoying to charge your phone every four hours. Im pretty sure there is a bug continuously running that drains the battery that fast. or maybe this syncing options are not very efficient.
Now going back to the point, the bad problem is that my phone is not recognizing my memory card. Other programs recognize it like file manager and others but every time I go to gallery my phone doesnt recognize the pictures from it. Also the music player doesnt see the music I have on it either. Frustrating :/
I have done so far this:
1. Unmounted and re mounted the memory card using the ROM
2 Unmounted and re mounted the memory card using the ClockworkMod
3. Formatted the memory card many ways and different formats
4. Used a different (blank) memory card with one file
I also read another thread from previous codename ROMs about putting a null file on certain folders? I cant recall it right now, but theres is one thread about it. That did not work as well.
Does anybody have this issue about the memory card? if anyone have any other thoughts or any solution please help and lets discuss about it.

Yes i had that issue as well, I just moved my pics and music to my internal card. its a quick fix. But I had that issue on CM9 but not on CM10 tho. just those two. So, hoped this helps ya. I really didn't look into it that deep. as soon as i moved the stuff over to my internal, I was good. you might wanna search the new CNA thread. see if there is a fix in there.

Did you do a clean install? My battery life on the current version of Codename is very good and only a bit less than ICS. There is some JB kernel development in place at the moment to clean up some of these remaining glitches. That's why this and other JB ROMs are still in alpha.
What governor are you using? Try pegasusq governor, it works for me. I'm also slightly undervolted.

This is from a fairly normal days use, heavy on Pandora. Stock battery

lol read a battery thread.. your setup is causing your battery drain.. or you have a bad battery. theres also plenty threads (mostly aosp rom threads) that have that issue.. not sure if directory bind will help?

Havent even thought about that. I'll give it a try tonight and I'll let you know. And I know this is an "under-development" ROM. I fixed battery problems but I think Im more worried about the gps than anything else :/ I'll look around for some other solutions

If everything worked like it is suppose to while flashing, GPS lock is not an issue with this ROM according to the development team. I have been using it for a few weeks and the only time I had GPS issues is when I tried out a few other ROMS for a couple of days and then nandroid back. GPS, batt issues, and messaging issues showed up, so it probably didnt get wiped very well before I restored teh nandroid.
Try a fresh install from GB kernal and see if that helps with any issues. That is what I did a few days ago and everything is working well again.

You have to get a gps lock in a touchwiz rom before flashing this for best results. I just used the fi27 one click for that. Do the one click update prl and profile, got a gps lock then flashed codename following the instructions on what to wipe.

Thanks, did that and it didnt work. Everything seems to be pretty good with this ROM except the ROM. Did a clean re install and the same. I guess I did something wrong, but for what I've been reading, a good percentage of people is having either the gps issue or the memory card reading issue.

There is a fix for the GPS in development called JB Tweaks. My GPS would lock in about a min before, but now it takes 10-15 seconds. I would recommend using Alpha 1 build for now. Some are reporting fc's on 3 and battery drains on 2.1.

CNA is actually a pretty sturdy ROM. Your battery life issues can't entirely be fixed, but they can be improved greatly by a few simple things:
- Use CNA's "Performance" tab in the settings. It should be right there towards the top.
- Underclock your CPU to 800 - 1000MHz. There isn't a huge difference between the two, but whichever you prefer. I don't do a lot of gaming type processes on my phone so I am perfectly content with 800MHz.
- Change the I/O Governor to "pegasusq" with a matching I/O Scheduler of "noop." I've personally had / seen a lot of people have success with that combo.
- Turn off completely your Auto-Sync. I have my e-mail settings set to only refresh when I tell it too. Same goes for Weather applications, or any app that will run in the background invisibly, especially Facebook! Watch out for that one. They can prevent your phone from deep sleep.
- Change your brightness to a setting that is comfortable for you during the day and night, so that way your phone isn't constantly trying to do that for you.
- INVERTED GAPPS. The dominant black really helps keep the screen from using a lot of power and you will probably notice a difference when the battery has been calibrated correctly.
Hope some of those tips help you out! It's taken me some time to discover what I am most comfortable using, but I have figured it all out.
As for the SD Card issue. Might I recommend trying a different Root Explorer? Perhaps ES File Explorer or even "Root Explorer" from the Play Store? I know there has been a few issues like that for me, and honestly, I am still trying to figure them out myself. It somehow manages to correct itself, because I will wake up the next day with it working just fine. I personally use ES File explorer. I love the layout and it's free. Can't beat free.

Thanks for all the tips man! they are incredible and I've done some of them too. I stated at the beginning that the battery was really bad but I've managed to fix all those problems. A good calibration helps a lot too. Later I said I wasnt having problems with the battery and discovered my GPS wasnt working. I think Im gonna try different things ( I havent tried anything because school is killing me and I have time for nothing) so little by little Im getting there.
but thanks anyway, those recommendations are just perfect for anybody that wants to have a better battery life

GPS is an easy fix, get on a tw rom, turn on GPS and get a lock, leave GPS on and locked, then boot to a safe recovery and flash the rom u want to use. GPS will now work normally, if your lock is slow on the new rom download GPS status & toolbox and clear A-GPS data and redownload the data and it will lock fast, I can get lock within 2m indoors in less than 30sec on my et4g

Kernels

I been rooted for about a month now and love it, glad i did it and would never go back. i have the wireless tethering, Hulu and i pretty much seen every custom rom out their possible and have found that Myn Warm is obviously the best one out their and i know plenty would agree.
One thing i haven't gotten around to is Kernels. i'm running the custom kernel that came with this rom and i don't really see a difference in my baterry life, my battery dies just as much if i am using it as it is when its on stand by. (Carrying around a spare battery with me wherever i go is getting embarrassing )
I want to know everything there is to know about kernels possible in this thread so all the bright minds of AC please put your input here and even suggest your own if you'd like.
What i'm really trying to find out is
. What is a kernel and what does it mainly do
. How much voltage can a Evo take so i can find out what kernel fits best
. How do i install a kernel? is it same as flashing a custom Rom? and do you need to Wipe everything as you would a rom
. How long until you can tell if a Kernel is actually working
Thanks in advance
This link is your best friend I promise.

Also battery life is a tough question to answer man it's all about how one uses their phone. Personally I just discovered this little trick; if you turn this off your battery life will double or triple!

Turning off mobile data will just cut off apps from using data(twitter, Facebook, etc). I just turn it on when I need it. You'll still receive calls and text but man I've tripled my battery life. P.S nice avatar.
You install a kernel the same way you do a rom; go into recovery and flash zip. Usually the kernel has built in scripts to wipe dalvik, cache, and etc. Also flashing a kernel will not wipe your rom and its a very easy and safe process. To check if its installed, go to settings, then phone information it should show you the installed kernel. I usually give a kernel about a day or two to check/compare performance/battery. Good luck

Turning off mobile data puts the "data" to sleep so you cant browse the web. But when you find yourself not using the phone turn it(the mobile data) off and I promise your battery will last a long time. When its on your phones radio is constantly being used which of course kills the battery. Its just a tip man you don't have to turn it off. I'm usually always around wifi so I turn it off; if I'm not by wifi I turn it on when I need it. I figured this out like a week ago and done many test to convince myself I wasn't crazy. I went from 10hrs moderate use to about 31hrs moderate use(regular battery).

But still when i'm not at home or work i'm still going to have a battery issue, when i get around to that thread you posted hopefully i find the right kernel to help me out on the road

I could suggest some kernels for bettery battery life; that link also has some really helpful information. What rom are you running? I like to run sbc kernels to give my battery that "complete charge" lol. Check out this pic to prove I wasn't crazy. I pulled the phone off the charger 15hrs ago, battery still with 52% left. I got another 15 hours out of it by turning it off(mobile data). I'm also around wifi alot myself. Using wifi doesn't drain the battery not even half as fast as mobile data.

Ahhh excellent choice. Myns 2.2 and koni's elite are my favorite sense roms. Well my battery stats looks different because I'm running a different rom. I always switch back and forth between sense and aosp. Same things I've said apply both both by the way; I've tested on sense and aosp. In sense I believe you go to settings, then about phone, and then it should say battery stats. On aosp it looks this way.

yeah i got it dude thanks alot for the help.
i can't seem to use any other rom, in my opinion nothing is going to compete with Myn's roms anytime soon. this guy is a guru when it comes to these things and i can't wait for a new update on warm 2.2
Can you post KONI Elite, im pretty sure i have seen every theme out their but can't bring to mind which one that is
Word. Yeah myns 2.2 was flawless to me. I'd rate koni's right behind it; koni is more into theming and his roms are sick. The two rocks are probably neck and neck I don't know which I like more. I guess if I had to pick I'd roll with myn.

Myns i love you, but i think i gotta try this out lol
dirkyd3rk, from post #5, I can see that you're using cm7 (or some variation of GB). In 2.2 sense, we had the option - enable mobile data always on under network settings. This permitted the 3g data to remain on even when the phone was in sleep mode. If this was turned off, 5 minutes after the screen turned off, so did the mobile data. I don't see an equivalent option in cm7. It's either always on, or always off. Of course, depending on your particular setup, one option may be preferable over the other.
In the case of the OP, this may actually be useful. Mobile data would be on any time the screen is on, without any further user action. When the device is sleeping, so is the data (after 5 min).
Now to the OP, be aware that having this option set that way, anything push related will not work. Finally, i'm unsure if other tasks such as weather updates will still work correctly when the screen is off.
If there is no way to enable this functionality in a GB rom, and you want this capability, your only recourse is to use a froyo based rom.

[Q] Android OS and wlan battery usage on FH13

Running unrooted stock FH13 I'm getting a high percentage of my battery being used up by Android OS when the phone is idling. From what I've gathered this seems to be a pretty common problem with the two official ICS builds, but I'm wondering if anyone has any solutions that doesn't involve reverting to GB or rooting my device. Better Battery Stats typically tells me that the culprit is a wlan kernal wake lock, and sometimes is deleted wake lock (which if I understand correctly could be the same culprit as the wlan_wake lock). So it would seem that Wi-Fi is what's killing me, but I've not had any better battery life when I run 3g all day either. I did a factory reset after upgrading to FF18, but I didn't do it again after upgrading to FH13. Any suggestions?
Also, does anyone know if FI03 has the same issue?
This is xda, why are you here if you don't want to root your device?
Honestly if you root it and get rid of the stock apps and bloat that runs in the background you will get better battery life. The first thing I do on official ics is delete the Sprint and Samsung apps like Sprint zone, media hub, social hub, and extra widgets like accuweather and dual clock.
There are guides everywhere for battery life improvement. Also turn off wifi when your not using it.

I appreciate the advice. I knew about that option already though. The reason I don't want to root is because aside from this one issue I'm fine with the stock experience, and I honestly just don't have the time to try different builds and tweak things enough to get the most out of a rooted experience. As far as why I'm on xda, there are plenty of unrooted leaks on this forum too so I can't be the only one who doesn't want to root for whatever reason. For general battery improvement, I've looked and I haven't found anything useful aside from either disabling some apps from starting up or accessing the internet at certain times, which would require rooting, or turning off data/wi-fi (which in my opinion defeats many of the purposes of my phone).
I am well aware that turning certain things off or removing certain apps, even those that would require rooting, would help my battery, but my point is that I didn't do any of those things on GB and my battery life was still perfectly fine. My current understanding of the situation is that this is just what the official FH13 ICS rom on the E4GT does and there's nothing I can do about it. I'm hoping I'm wrong and that someone might have some advice, but if that's really the case feel free to confirm my suspicion as well.
Only thing that comes to mind is - after you reset, did you go right back and install all your apps before testing for battery drain?
Did you try turning off auto sync?

Yes, I did just reinstall all of them immediately. I know that it would have been better to put them back on slowly in order to pinpoint an app that may be causing a problem, but that would have taken a lot of time and I didn't think it'd be worth it. Also, right now better battery stats doesn't show any of my apps holding a wake lock for long and I thought it would show up there if it was one of my installed apps causing the problem. Is that not how it works? Because I'm considering factory resetting again when I get the chance, so if it still could be one of my installed apps I might give the gradual app installation a try if I do it.
No I did not turn off auto-sync because being notified automatically about e-mails and such is one of the main reasons I use this phone. I know that it uses more battery when it's on, but I consider it a necessity. However, now that you mention it, I never really did try turning it off just to see how much of a difference it makes. That could be useful diagnostically so I'll probably give that a shot.
Also, on the auto sync note, is there a way for me to change the time interval that the google services wait to check for new notifications? Because I can't find it anywhere and I could have sworn that was an option in GB.

Disclaimer: None of the following is meant to be rude -
You're asking for a shotgun approach to a specific issue.
You do realize that the majority of people that your asking love to take things apart to find out what's wrong, right? Its kinds like taking the screwdriver away and asking someone to fix it.
That being said:
Autosync: App dependent. Check each app. If you have outlook, unfortunately its also on the server side for push notifications. If you have outlook, talk to the admin and ask if they left push at the standard default. You can find those settings through technet. I posted on this issue so you should be able to find it in search.
Each app install: Without a logcat at a minimum, or a verbose battery monitor app, that's a needle in a haystack. Either
A: go the "one at a time" method
B: Research each app for same issue
C: You can find similar posts on this issue since its such a popular one and try the various suggestions.
Either way, you're going to spend the same amount of time, or more, hunting this down.
Ooor, since you don't want to root:
You can flash ek02 and let the OTA process take you to el29 and try the no root method of ignoring future updates or hit the ignore button several times a day.

You can be stock rooted on the current over the air build if you are happy with touchwiz ics. When I use touchwiz based roms stock rooted is the way I go. You don't need to worry about tweaks or custom kernels if you want to keep it simple. We all started stock rooted, its a little scary at first but its really the way to go if you want the most from your phone. Its one of those things that you kick yourself for not doing sooner when its finally done.
I have been able to surpass my battery life on EL29 GB with various ics roms for months with similar customization done. Bone stock though I think you are right GB is a little better. A new official ICS update should be released soon FI27 though and they only get better. Give it a try stock and really consider rooting. We will help if you need it.
FYI this is a normal days battery for me. I'm currently running an AOSP rom with stock battery

[ROM][NAND] [No longer being developed] GBX0* + 3.4.41 kernel - update 04/25/13

First I would like to give credit to everyone who has worked on GBX0* in any way. ACL, arrrghhh, detule, and Stinger22 to name a few important faces around here. I do not take credit for 99% of this. It is a modded version of the GBX already published on XDA.
Stinger22 is responsible for building the killer new kernel. I packaged the kernel into a boot.img and collected all the compatible updates into a single installable Zip with lots of tweaks.Stinger22 deserves big thanks for his work here.
There will be limited support for this build. Feel free to ask questions, and even better if you can help answer them. If you know how to fix something that is broken I would love to hear from you. I would be happy to include anything that you can contribute.
Due to the number of people unhappy with the RHOD100s phones and this rom, we do not recommend it for the RHOD100s (not that we ever did as we only have RHOD400s to test with).
New install guide.
Now what you came for:
GBX*
Includes:
GBX 5-8-12 lib update.
Slightly smoother boot animation used.
Build.prop tweaks.
Added a couple of ringtone/media sounds.
Superuser replaced with SuperSU .97
Modded audio.conf file to allow for the streaming of media metadata from apps like Pandora when the advanced menu / car bluetooth mode is enabled in the app. Also this change should allow for more Bluetooth devices to connect to the phone. Does only appear to support AVRCP 1.0, so no metadata without extra app support. However track forward/back/pause will work with some setups.
Added circle battery icons with %s for more precise gauging. Shows in 5% blocks. What you see is +/-3% of what the battery is really reporting. Based off the themes here. It is better than a half filled bar IMHO. It might take a full discharge or two before the battery gague/acl code becomes accurate. The battery also tends to drop quickly in the first 10% and then levels off.
RHOD300 keyboard fix. Credit to Detule
Changed RHOD100 from default keyboard to RHOD100_UK keyboard map.
Fix to ramdisk to resolve error reported during boot.
Fix to bluetooth main.conf to prevent bluetooth media devices from crashing OS. *only included in the 3.4.26.1 and newer full build*
-Still have issues where connecting/disconnecting the sink device can sometimes cause the phone to reboot. Seems sink device dependent. Mostly fixed in 3.4.26.13
Fixed bluetooth typo bug to 3.4.26.1 in 3.4.26.11
Boot animation in 3.4.26.13 credit.
3.4.17 Kernel update:
Including ACL's newer battery code.
More accurate readings from battery gague.
Maybe slightly better sleep battery usage.
Small Bluetooth fix (I find paring to be easier).
Kernel panic fix that may help prevent phone lockup if apps crash.
Many other small patches.
Fixed USB detection issue in 3.4 kernels.
Overclocking still supported. (SetCPU is free to XDA members)
Added a hack supplied by detule to prevent the sd card reader from suspending to prevent unexpected sd card removal errors.
Added a kernel splash screen to cover up some of the rolling text during boot time. Credit.
Sleep works with wifi turned on. - Battery life should improve where wifi prevented sleep before. Wifi tethering will prevent wifi sleep.
Zoom slider bar now works. Acts like a two finger touch moving from the center of the screen. If you tap on the zoom bar it will be just like tapping in the middle of your screen. Something to keep in mind if you get unexpected touches while holding the bottom of your phone. More benefit than a draw back IMHO. Added permission files. Link at bottom for those who just need this (based off of mankineko's work).
3.4.24 Kernel *minor update*
Includes updates from source.
Added code to cause system to reboot rather than hang from a system crash.
3.4.26 Kernel
Reboot function in shutdown menu has been fixed (power off is still broken)
Host file is no longer over written on boot up. This had been preventing ad blocker apps from working correctly.
ACL's panel code has been used. Hopefully this will resolve some issues for the RHOD100 users. We have no way to test, so it is as-is.
Auto brightness has been fixed. You may need to press the power button and force the lcd off, after it has been enabled, before it will take effect.
Device name is no longer reported as 00000000 by ADB. It should show as the serial number.
3.4.35 Kernel
Slight performance tweaks.
Added CrossBreeder mod. Basically helps tethering internet.
Added "Smartassv2" cpu governor. Can be set using apps like SetCPU. Should be slightly better performance, but may come at the cost of battery life.
Added "row" scheduler.
3.4.41 Experimental Rhod400 Kernel.
Shutdown working
Fps limit fixed, plus a slight gpu performance boost (previously was benching about 19fps for both 2d/3d, now I'm getting up to 60fps 2d, 26fps 3d)
Enabled more compiler optimizations. Kernel is slightly larger, but seems to perform a bit better
USB: No need to plug/unplug once before adb works, faster cable connection detection
Other miscellaneous tweaks that may or may not help battery life
Known bugs:
Many of these bugs are found in the 3.X kernels, and so they may be found here too.
MMS does not work out of the box. Add this APN info if you want it.
Google maps newer than 5.9 shows graphic distortions with street names, and other graphic issues sometimes. Waze is a good gps alternative if you want something with more features.
Shutdown and reboot options on the power button menu do not work.
Auto backlight does not work.
8-15-12 RIL update breaks radio (on CDMA for sure/no reports from GSM owners).
SD card unexpected removal errors when the phone wakes from sleep on *some* phones. -try a non SDHC sd card if all other standard troubleshooting fails. I have been able to use a 512mb and 1gb card micro sd card without issue. However all my 4,8,16, and 32gb micro SDHC cards have this issue. Hacked work around as of update 3.4.17.
May have to remove and reinsert USB cable a few times before the phone will recognize it has been plugged into a data port. Also you may need to turn features on/off to get the correct tethering/usb storage/usb debug to work correctly.
No front facing camera support for RHOD100.
Deleting bluetooth.apk may be necessary to get the phone to connect to some Bluetooth devices that have any advanced features.
If Bluetooth is left on and the phone is rebooted/crashes, the unit may bootloop. I have not found a fix other than reloading the Rom from recovery.
This bug seems to effect A2DP and other audio streaming devices the most v.s a bluetooth mono ear piece for calling with. This is a bug I have been able to repro on the GBX*+ 3.3.6 kernel as well. Make backups before using Bluetooth. If you are a CDMA user, you could try the original Ril from inside the GBX+3.x rom. It seemed to cause the reboot loop a little less. However GSM users must have the 5-8 Ril to use this Rom.
Found that this bug seems to be for devices that support multiple profiles. I have a Bluetooth receiver that will use phone and media profiles. If the phone profile is disabled the lock-ups do not happen. This work around will not let you use the phone features, but you can stream media. You need to pair the device. Then long touch it to get a to an options menu. Uncheck the phone profile option to stop the crashes when playing any media.
Sometimes if the phone locks up during the boot animation from this issue, then you reboot once or twice, and leave it alone for a long long time it will sometimes finally finish booting. It is worth a couple of reboots, and a lot of waiting vs reloading the rom. It also seems to help if you plug the phone into the usb on a computer after the boot process has passed the blue screen.
Pandora's internal/advanced bluetooth settings must be turned off, otherwise it may crash the phone on device disconnect.
Bluetooth is not 100% stable, and may crash the phone on connecting or disconnecting devices. During use it is stable.
If the phone crashes while bluetooth is turned on it may boot loop. If this happens connect the phone's usb port to a charger or usb port on a computer. This should cause it to boot correctly on the next time around.
Sprint phones must be activated on the Sprint network in WM before loading Android. Android can not activate everything correctly.
It has been reported that the keymap for the RHOD300 is not correct.
Not an Android bug, but Sprint DNS services are crap. I found good working links not working correctly due to bad dns info. Of course you can use any public dns server you like.
A suggestion for getting your own dns in more easily is this App.
If you tether on Sprint I suggest that you put your own DNS server in under the TCP/IP settings on client device as it will only use sprint's by default. I leaned this the hard way.
RHOD100 WIFI may not reconnect to access point automatically upon waking from sleep. Disable and reconnect to work around.
This Rom was only tested on the Sprint TP2 RHOD400. It will probably work on any that worked with the GBX0* + 3.3.x kernel, but we can't promise it.
Updated RIL from Skysoft here. Not included in any build. 4-16-2013

New install guide.
Old install directions for all other NAND roms.
It is assumed that you have unlocked your phone. If not read here and/or here, and/or here.
If you are running the 8-15 ril that was patched, and you are unable to get a cell signal, I would highly suggest that you install the older patch ril file.
If you want to add just the permission files for the zoom bar (and a few other things) rather than downloading the whole thing again here they are. When I did this it broke Zeam. I had to add another launcher, and then switch between the two. That fixed it for me.
As always BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP before doing anything. Please use at your own risk.
*Related goodies*
Gapps package.
For those of you who want an ICS facelift, check out the modded Zeam launcher.
Most recent recovery thread. - this recovery creates a md5 error on a backup's restore. Anyone know how to fix it?
ACL's known good recovery.
Good chance you will need to calibrate your touch screen. This thread covers that, and how to make it stick.
I may have found a launcher that is more lightweight than Zeam from what I can tell. I am running Lighting Launcher, and am quite happy. Seems to have an even smaller memory footprint, which is great for phones without much memory.
Swapper2 app. This is an interesting thing I found the other day. It allows you to use your SD card for swap (Virtual ram). I did verify that a 64mb swap file (did not test swap partition) can work on our phones. I would love to hear some feedback from people who might be interested in playing with it. I would suggest a Micro sd card with a high random read/write speed. Here is a guide that is already made if you want to use a swap partition rather than a swap file. It will probably wear out your sd card faster, but sd cards are cheap these days. Also note that SD storage vie USB may not work if you use this mod.
Update.
I got out my 32gb high random speed sd card today, and I whipped up a swap partition according to the guide above. I bumped the swappyness setting to 100. I was in a generous mood, so I lopped off 1gb of space for swap (256mg would have probably been a better choice). I did get a name error when I enabled it, but it seemed to work just fine. The swap space of 1gb showed up by the free command, and the swap space showed use after I ran a few apps. It is a subjective observation, but I think multitasking is a little smoother. I plan on leaving it setup like this for now.

I did manage to max out the cpu, and crash the system resulting in a reboot. I was running two gps apps, and two music apps, and two or three other apps all at the same time (abit poorly though). It might not have liked having multiple apps access the same resources.
Here is a handy app for rebooting the phone quickly, and entering into recovery.
Possible way to disable the proxmity sensor for people who have bad ones causing a non-waking screen here. Credit.
*Bonus for Sprint RHOD400 TP2 users*
If you are tired of the white HTC splash screen here are two nbh files you can flash just like a rom from the SD card. They should only touch the splash screen. Everything else is left alone. Flash one, or both in any order. These probably work on other Rhod phones, but I have no way to test them. So no screaming if something gets bricked. Based off the work in this thread. Reported not working on RHOD100 by this post. Reported working on RHOD300 here.
If you know of an image (480x800 res) that is even more amazing than these, and you feel it would be a good replacement drop me a link to it. If I love it, it will make it to the first post. Otherwise I might just whip one up special for you for contributing.

As of 3-25-13 I have moved onto the EG4G/SII phone after reading about it and SERO legacy at Howardforums.
I will stop in from time to time, and if I am given a newer kernel I will post it. However I will no longer be using this phone.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
i tried a lil last night and today on your lite version. had a few issues with it but i think that was caused by my mistake. i know you said NO support with the lite version. so later on today im gonna try the "full" one without any of my added stuff.
thank you for your time in putting this together for us and everyone else who kept this old phone working so long.
edit: i have rhodium 400 btw

You are welcome to ask questions about the light version. Just don't *expect* any help with it. If I know the answer I will respond. Sorry if I came across as stern. Someone else might know the answer too.
I wanted to set the tone to be caveat emptor (to quote Stinger22). As the lite version is missing a whole lot it might be broken, or broken by anything. It is just something I whipped up to play with, and decided to share incase someone else wanted to play.
I am glad to keep up the fight. These are still great phones, even if they don't play the newest games.
Thanks for your comments.

hi again. i did the lite version again with my tweaks... meaning i hate using goole play or any of the google apps in general (privacy concerns deleted apk's after flash and successful boot).
im currently using it on my rhodium without service (have two, one on sprint service). so i cant confim it works in those aspects. wifi works otb. didnt try blue tooth. camera works as expected. didnt try audio/video yet (we all know rhod dont have HW support lol). miss the keyboard but can install if needed. couldnt for the life of me figure out how to use the modded zeam you suggested (not a deal breaker i like the orginal one). decent battery life but not what i expected. phone went from 8 hrs @ 70% then down to 10% within next hour. turn off dont work so well sometimes it wrks most times not. on [ACL]'s rom ive been using app called "quick boot" to bypass this goofy activity. works like a charm from widget.
can this be reworked into a gsm phone? kinda know i need to security unlock. but what im getting at return to winmo, change security, finda gsm phone provider, reflash this rom and good to go? or just skip those crazy ideas lol?
again thank you for the rom you shared with us :good:

Most of Google's stuff was left in place because more people than not consider accessing the Google account info critical. Even if only for contacts and such. Matter of personal choice I say.
I cut the keyboard APKs as we have a physical keyboard. You can just side load them or put them back in the install zip. I am using the ICS keyboard from the market. I like it better for my virtual keyboard with a stone bold theme.
This is based off the GBX* rom, so it should probably work with the GSM variants of the the RHODs. I didn't dev the new kernel, but it should work. You could try the most recent ril, but I know it breaks cdma phones. The most recent ril had a GSM signal loss tweak in it. I don't know of any security you need to deal with, and I can't recall coming across any comments in the original GBX* thread about that.
If you are talking about unlocking the sim so you can use a CDMA device on a GSM network, that is unrelated to the rom for the most part.
If you are running the lite version I posted, just uninstall Zeam with something like titanium backup, and replace it with the apk that is linked.
Otherwise you could swap it out in the zip file before you install. It is located in /system/apps.
If you manually delete the apk from the phone /system/app and paste the new one into it's place while Zeam is running it will probably require a reboot before Zeam works. Probably not the best way to go about it assuming nothing explodes.
If you can't get it to work I can make up a version with the other ICS themed zeam.
Maybe that will help a bit.
*edit*
Been fooling around a little with the modded Zeam on the lite version. For some reason it doesn't install the icons right if there is not a non-zeam launcher running. *shrug*
I installed launcher2 apk from the full rom for the install. Then was able to side load the modded zeam.
*edit 2*
I posted an ultra lite rom with the classic launcher.

im not happy with google selling my info so i refuse to give them any space on my phone lol
i tried the modded zeam all the ways i could think of, before flash, after flash, through adb didnt matter. maybe corrupt apk?
no worries. ill try to redownload it and try it your way with launcher2 first
~unlocking the sim so you can use a CDMA device on a GSM network... yeah im not looking forward to paying to sim unlock it
but i am hella glad you got the zoom bar working :good:.

Be ok with loosing the money. Some people have reported that they didn't get the unlock info, and the dev for that is next to impossible to get to respond.
You might check this thread. Not sure if they got it working.
Most of the credit goes to Stinger22. The man is kicking some serious code butt!
I would try re-downloading the apk. I was able to install it with a adb install. Not sure what else it could be. Did you hold your tongue just right while dancing madly during the install?

Regardless, kudos on getting the zoombar to work - I was hoping someone would take mankineko's work there and adapt it... Glad it did not get forgotten!
Zoombar!!
Wow. Great work! I can't wait to try this when I get back from vacation.
If someone asked me to make a list of features I wanted to see in android on the rhodium it would go something like this:
1 Zoom bar
2 Zoom bar
3 ZOOM BAR!
Seriously never thought I would see it happen again though, so one more time; Great Work and Thank You!
(Sorry, I just didn't feel that the 'thanks' button alone was enough this time :laugh

Yes, overclocking is supported. This should be the same as 3.3.6. I believe the frequency range you can choose from is 122-825. Download your favorite overclocking app from the market, and have at it. I use quick cpu overclock lite.
*edit. I think we have some new governor options. Link for descriptions.

710 is a respectable overclock. As all overclocking is concerned, YMMV. No one has a way to predict the speed you will be able to overclock to successfully. You might try reading this or this thread if you want to be educated on overclocking the TP2. Overclocking is usually 99% hardware limited. The rom you run is not likely to have much influence.

oops i do have a addon to this... i have two rhodium 400's both are sprint versions. the one that doesnt have have service is the one i test roms with. i believe it is an early made phone and thats why the limit of OC is kinda low. i can do 729 and 748 sometimes but why risk the ~40 mhz for stabililty (app i use is setcpu and this GBX0* rom). now the second one i have was a referb one and does have service. build date is much later and i can OC it over 800mhz but i usually only set it for 787mhz. again why risk the ~20mhz for stablility. (same setcpu but [ACL]'s OMGB rom). basically i agree with wizardknight its HW limited and the luck of the draw.
goodtimes guys!:good:
side note: (related to second rhodium, first one works fine with zoom bar) any way to port this to acl's rom? i used the flash from OP but the zoom bar is no go. heck idk if the zoom bar even works on this phone. guess ill be doing a flash dance on the one the zoom bar works. wizard i know it not your rom jus thought id ask again thank you for putting this together.

oops i do have a addon to this... i have two rhodium 400's both are sprint versions. the one that doesnt have have service is the one i test roms with. i believe it is an early made phone and thats why the limit of OC is kinda low. i can do 729 and 748 sometimes but why risk the ~40 mhz for stabililty (app i use is setcpu and this GBX0* rom). now the second one i have was a referb one and does have service. build date is much later and i can OC it over 800mhz but i usually only set it for 787mhz. again why risk the ~20mhz for stablility. (same setcpu but [ACL]'s OMGB rom). basically i agree with wizardknight its HW limited and the luck of the draw.

I am assuming that you mean OMGB by ACL's rom. To the best of my knowledge there is no way to port the feature without building your own kernel. It is my understanding that the 3.x kernels (what we use) are not compatible with that rom. OMGB userland is no longer receiving updates, so unless another dev adopts that rom it will never work.
I will take the 1% credit for this rom. I have done behind the scenes, packaging, some Bluetooth mods, and testing stuff. The other 99% goes to everyone (esp Stinger22) who has worked on it before me or with me.
On the phone that the zoom bar is not working, did you download that rom zip before or after 11-3? I didn't change the file names or links with the last update. You might try downloading the perms file at the end of the post, and installing that. Otherwise I would re-download, wipe, and reinstall.
If you are still having trouble let me know, and I will go check the zips to make sure that something didn't get busted in the last round of updates.

[ROM REVIEW] Jelly King 2.0 Review

Jelly King 2.0 Review
Introduction:
So I've been using Jelly King 2.0 for quite some time now, and I obviously like it. So, I decided to write a review for this, so that they can have a look at the main plus points and negative points for the ROM and decide whether they want it or not.
Alright, so let's start off the review.
Note: No tweak has been used except for the in-built adrenaline engine and INT2EXT (used for increasing internal memory). The phone has not been overclocked, it is on Stock 600MHz.
Jelly King 2.0:
Jelly King 2.0 (I will call it JK2 from now on) is the successor of Jelly King 1.0,1.1.,1.2 and 1.3.
Author: kantry123
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075272
Main Features:
Based on the Latest CM10 Alpha 2 by modpunk.
Minor bugs like - Low Brightness, Auto Brightness, CRT Animation have been fixed. (i.e. the ROM is pretty much complete)
Adrenaline Engine in-built to give you speed.
Main Bugs:
Camera quality worse than stock Sense ROMs.
Camcorder recording framerate is very low.
Panoramas generated are not correct.
Data disconnects randomly sometimes.
USB Tethering does not work (i. e. Using phone as modem doesn't work).
Google Now Voice Search doesn't work.
All in all, these bugs are very very minor, as the Camera on the whole works. So, it shouldn't be a HUGE problem, unless you take lots of photos with your phone. If so, switch to Sense or CM7.2.
Now, I'm going to stress on a few major points which people look at when choosing a ROM.
Stability:
As far as I'm concerned, I give this ROM a 8.5/10 for stability. Quite stable, no issues whatsoever, only that I rarely face a random reboot.
Performance:
Now first of all let me remind you that our phone has a 600MHz single-core processor , with Adreno 200 GPU. Not much compared to today's phones, huh? Yet, this ROM gives you solid performance. I've been playing games like Rope N' Fly 3, Temple Run 1, Temple Run 2, The Sandbox, Age Of Zombies, Jetpack Joyride the whole day. And it hardly lags. I give it a 9/10 for giving good performance on compatible games even with such a low CPU clock speed.
Battery Life:
When you first use this ROM, you would be like, "Damn, the battery sucks." I was that way too, you know. But on closer examination of battery stats, you'll see that majority portion of the battery is being sucked by the display. So, the solution is simple. You put the brightness between minimum to 25%. I have myself put it on minimum and experienced a drastic increase in standby battery life, as well as screen on battery life.
Note: I am on the .15M Radio, it gives slightly better battery than others.
Benchmarks:
Now, I don't really do benchmarks, but I gave the FPS one a shot. I will not be doing AnTuTu Benchmark, because it calculates the score based on CPU Clock Speed and SD Card Reading speed, so obviously, the scores will differ.
NenaMark2: 14.6FPS. Quite the shocker, no? On such low hardware power, 14.6FPS is amazing. Good job kantry!
And finally,
Tips And Tricks:
You MAY feel some lag while using this ROM. In order to remove it completely, I recommend using Seeder 2.0.0 (if you want to support the dev, a paid Google Play version is available).
I also recommend using the v6 Supercharger script by zeppelinrox.
Screenshots:
All screenshots can be found in my folder on Google Drive, here.
So, that's the end of this review. If you have any points you would like me to add, please do post a reply and tell me, I will add it soon!
I do hope this review has helped you all. Best of luck in choosing your ROM!

For battery consumption you could use system tuner (on play store) and set in config when the screen is of frequency=480mhz and governor=powersaver

Very good review!
I'd add that data disconnections can happen, and I'd "just" give a good 8 or 9 for stability, but I think it's overall pretty accurate.
Are you sure the .15M radio gives better battery life? I had the opposite feeling (so in favor of 10.M), but I didn't really test it particularly...
Great rom anyway.

I forgot the data bug, thanks! And o just had 2 random reboots after this review. Down to 8.5.
And yes, it does improve battery life by quite a considerable amount and you can upgrade it with my tutorial, link is in my sig.

Andropalace has an ARMv6 version of Temple Run 1&2. Pretty smooth, both. Only that temple run 1 has an auto die bug, where you die in the middle at any point. So I recommend Temple Run 2. Newer and bug free.

Well, won't be for today. I tried everything (I've tried for hours now), but nothing seems to work. Even with your thread....
Don't know what I missed (tried with RUU, renaming rom.zip, with stock boot/system/recovery, re-made Goldcard...) but I've only lost data by mistake. :silly:
Well, maybe I'll understand later. Or not.
Hi, I got a question.
I flashed today my Wildfire S with JK 2.0. First thing I got to the Play store and install a few apps:
Droidwall
Beats Audio
ROM manager
Whatsapp
While I'm on the Play store the Play Store itself updates itself.
When the time comes to install Whatsapp, I get an error: no space available ... I go in the Storage menu to check. Not much space: 15M indeed.
So I go to the Apps menu (in Gingerbread there was an option to free space by moving to the SD: this option was in the Storage menu, if I recall correctly, but I couldn't find it here so I went to the Apps).
Literally, as I am looking at the apps the Internal storage starts growing till 45MB (took a few seconds). Why is that?
Also, all apps except ROM manager are in the internal storage. Clicking on each app shows a button to move to SD, but such button is grayed out on every app. Now, I know some app cannot be moved to SD, but I do know that Whatsapp can: do you know why I can't move any of them to the SD?
Sorry if I'm asking stupid questions: it is the first time I install a custom ROM and I never used Jelly Bean before ...

The increasing app space is just regular lag in calculating remaining space.
And WhatsApp can't be moved for me too. If you're sure that it can be, maybe there's a setting like in CM7 to force move all apps to SD card, thus making the button usable.

Hey, isn't there the USB tethering bug in this rom? You may say it's not important, but just for the review to be comprehensive..

Nice review. From my own experience with JK 2.0 I can add two aspects:
1. GPS: Fixing GPS takes several minutes for me. Changing the NTP Server using FasterFix did not really help in my case. However, using the gps.conf from this thread fixed the issue for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447593 (Google Specific v3.1 build)
2. To change a picture in the gallery, I have to slide almost over the complete screen which is not too bad, but really annoying. I haven't find a way to change that behaviour yet.

About the 2nd problem, its due to the heavy scrolling in jb. No idea how to fix tho.

I can confirm that voice recognition isn't working.
And another thing, although the question may be a little misplaced here: Can I get (open-) PDroid running on JK? Or is the patch even already included in the rom?
Oops, forgot to mention that GNow voice search doesn't work. OP updated.
Although its not a ROM bug, since the voice search In Now is an ARMv7 feature. So it will never work / almost never work.

I've been using this for quite some time, and some very annoying bugs persist even after several reflashes (and I've switched quite a few ROMs, so I'm sure I'm doing it right).
For instance, the random reboots, which seem to choose to happen right when I need them not to.
And the data thing is also a big issue. If you stop using it for an hour or more (not sure how long) it just stops and you have to switch to airplane mode and back. Not that I'm too lazy to do that, but it stops apps like Facebook from getting live updates.
It's faster than other ROMs though, and the slow scrolling thing is fixed (kind of), which is cool, but it's just too unstable and I'm going back to either CM7 or Sense and soon as I have the time to.

[Q] Need some help on kitkat 4.4.2 please!!

Hi everybody, I'm facing the below issue, that's resulting on phone overheating when using, battery temp is ok, It's something related to cpu, so I checked my battery usage and it's showing Android System usage high, sometimes it reachs up to 40% even when you let it in deep sleep:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
so if I take a look inside of what apps are included it shows the below:
everything is stock, and this behaviour is observed only in kitkat roms, on my phone, don't know about yours but mine is like that untill I find the solution. I also think that this thread could be usefull to anyone who's facing the same thing. So anyone good hearted can help me please if it's not too much to ask for? I helped a quite people here, so I hope someone help me back here please. Thanks!
Summarizing, what app could be making the andoid system usage high? In android 4.3 doesn't happen to me, that's why I'm moving between 4.3 and the lovely 4.4.2. Thanks!:crying: :crying: :crying: :fingers-crossed:
To someone: I make this thread after lot of searching here on xda. So don't bring here saying that this shouldn't be here, because (now I'm on dr ketang rom v8.1) but it happened to me with every kitkat rom I have tested (dn3, phoenix, emotion rom, dr ketang-in this last one I can found something good, disabling media scanner can help you to calm down quite/a bunch overheating,-) so now is the time to calm down my android system jajajajjajaj thanks!
Had the same issue on KitKat ROMs but never overheating issue. Also my phone doesn't show more than 20% usage by Android System except when I install a new ROM. It usually drops after 2-3 charging cycles. If it doesn't then I can only recommend a fresh flash after wiping with stock recovery.

You are a Senior Member @Austtin, I can't suggest to you.
I can only share with you that this has happened to me with all the 4.4.2 ROMs I've installed. But as said in the above post, things do settle down after 2-3 days (i.e. 2-3 recharge cycles). After endless P&C's I've been pretty happy with Phoenix ROM V18.8 And Nadia Kernel (currently V6.1) with @mat9v max_UV scripts. Undervolting may help you with heating up issue but for original android system usage issue, I think some tweaking with LMK might help.

Really really really thanks for your replies. So this is not only happening to me, I'm glad and mad about this issue jaja. But hey I found something interesting!! Media scanner is 1 of the 2 big battery drainers here. After installing dr ketan rom using his utilities you can disable it. It would be superb if he can create his tool universally. I'm gonna keep my research tonight untill I find something usefull for all. I keep you informated guys. Love you and thanks!!
I'm complaining without giving time to rom. I'm a kind of flashaholic jaja, so I'm complaining about this with only 1 day or less of usage. So gonna see if settling the rom down by a few days this keeps going or it just stops. Thanks guys!! Btw now I'm dn3 v5.2 + using dr ketan multitool. But i love phoenix rom too. May be I move to it.
Edit: i was forgetting to say that I try dr ketan app in other rom but no luck. It mess up your rom. So that's why I think it should superb if he makes it universally..

Hey guys I found a really interesting and "a must" app that's working on n7100. enable/disable media scan app. Install as a normal app, then enter to it, and scroll up to disable, then touch it, set root perm and you'll have disable media scanner. Benefits? Stop quite the battery draining. Contra: if you move new media files ( pics, audio, video) to your ext sd card from pc it won't be recognised (if I don't missunderstood) for that when you plug it into your pc through usb, and you're planing to incorporate some media files, you need to open the app and enable it again (scroll down and touch). No big deal. And de benefit is quite good. Now your phone will be cooler than ever using kitkat roms!!
How do I know if it's enabled or disabled? First a pop up mesaage show and then you feel the "winter", after couple of minutes , when you're handling your phone. Lol jajjajaj. Dr ketan made the app. And it's universal and light weighted.
Now is the time to keep researching for anything else to save all the battery I can. And then share it here!!

Thanks for sharing that @Austtin . Gonna give it a try today. I've already achieved 10 hours (idle) on 1% battery with my current settings. Screen on stats are pretty much good too. Let's see what this app achieves for me
