[Q] I was wondering.. - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, some of you may already know me from the MultiWindow framework hack.
I was thinking, would you people like a highly customizable framework, which you can control. Something like AOKP's ROM Control built into Samsung ROMs.
I have done something like that for my ROM in the S2, and I can do a lot actually for the Note 2.
If I would see support for the idea, I can show you one of my workings which I actually finished, and tell you about what I can do as well.
PS. Oh, and this will combine with the MultiWindow framework hack, to become a very powerful framework with absolute control for the user. And everyone who donated to get the MultiWindow framework, will get this for free.

Any development is always welcomed by the community, What sort of things do you want/would like it to do?

Look at 1.55, that is what I did to my touchwiz s2 ROM, and the note 2 will be similar with more options ofc.

People usually root to get rid of touchwiz.

I know that people root to get rid of touchwiz but I would like to port touchwiz to galaxy nexus and build it to be better then touchwiz from Samsung
I'm sorry. Looks like you're alone on that boat.
Good luck though

Not to question you, but do you actually have the skills to do this? Something like this is not an easy task for people that know what they are doing so when you say you will help, does than mean you will test or can you actually contribute?
While some do not like TW, I do not understand why people would complain if there are more options for you phone. If you do not like it, move on to something else but don't tell people not to do it.
If the new TW was ported with all the new features in the SGS3 I am sure people would jump on it. Even the TW haters.

This is blasphemy...that is all
LOL, why in the world would you want to have touchwiz on the nexus?
As I say that, it's better than sense 4.0. Nothing is better than stock ICS imo.

U can install it as a normal apk, or if u're rooted u can also push it to /system/app to enable delete apps directly from app drawer. In that same section u'll find another thread with tw launcher. This is of course TW4. Anyways, i've lived the tw experience and my final thought was "i'm never going back" , it was for sure my worst android experience.
And finally, as a response to the guy that claims that tw is a God in comparison to sense, i would propose to go jump off a cliff. They both suck and are no way close to vanilla feel, but if i had to choose between those 2 , i would go with sense, i've tried all sense versions up to sense 3.5 and neither tw3 nor tw4 are not even close.

A bit much there. Some people like like touchwiz because of some of the features it brings to the table that, quite frankly, should be in the Galaxy Nexus. The one that is bothering the HELL out of me right now is Wifi-Direct.
The S2, running Gingerbread, has a fully functioning, built-in Wifi-Direct Application. The Nexus? Does not. (Also every single video codec native to it without needing an app)
The S3, will have a better camera app, S-Beam, and a whole host of other features, that are only included with TouchWiz.
The features I've mentioned are not limited by the hardware differences between the S2 or even the S3 in comparison to the Nexus.
It's not always about looks, it's about features as well. I doubt telling someone to go jump off a cliff if they don't agree with your opinion on design is warranted.
Not a fan of touchwiz or sense
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Jump off a cliff was metaphoric of course (didn't expect i would need to explain that). Anyways, all this stuff is a matter of taste, and yes there are people who like tw, for whatever reasons. As i mentioned i spent time in both worlds, the only feature I liked in tw was the memo app. The features in sense such as widgets (weather, stocks, htc email, news feed and so on), more practical and nicer lockscreen, better transition and scrolling animations, recent apps and settings shortcuts in starus bar, and visually nicer and more colorful UI etc... plus, the whole general feel and smoothness of sense, i'm not talking about sense 4, although htc will polish the software on one x in future updates. Unless someone hadn't lived with both UI's his/her arguements are not valid.
Anyways back on topic, the "features" u mentioned in ur post above are directly integrated into the samsung framework and other system files, and u can see the progress of such ports in the gnex dev section. But that's not the point, people who NEED TW features should go and buy samsung phones with tw, gnex is clearly not the best choice for them.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
OK some of you guys need to understand that if wants to bring TW to the galaxy nexus so be it. I'm tired of reading crap about how "why would you want it" if you don't want it don't flash it when there's a touchwiz rom simple as that. Don't sit here and tell him you hate TW for what ever reason. He is asking for help to port it. If u are not going to contribute then don't say anything at all.

Why buy a gnex if you want a manufacturer overlay?
Seems kind of strange to me. I got a gnex because I wanted pure google.
The Sensation forum is also full of people complaining they don't want sense.
It's all very strange, like buying a vw golf and being disappointed that you can't put a 7 litre v10 in it.

So you're last sentence is inferring the Galaxy Nexus is a mid range Android "vehicle" and Sense is a more advanced custom engine that it can't handle?

Stock Android ROM?

Any ROM for this device I find still has Samsungs Touch interface overlay on it, such as Jelly Bomb. Is there a Cyanogenmod like ROM out there for our cdma phone? When will Cyanogenmod begin to support the cdma version of the note?

I'd guess that any pure AOSP based ROM would need to somehow support the Samsung S-pen capabilities and be made to co-exist with the Samsung system S-pen capabilities software "blob", or do away with the S-pen capabilities altogether?
AOSP is open source ... enhancements to it may or may not be. If it helps Samsung in their patent fight with Apple to prove how they've added their own differentiated technology to smart phones, should they make it open source and let Apple have it as well?

There are loads of ROMs to choose from Taylorcox75.
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 ROMs.
(They all lead back to here at XDA and you will need to read the forum threads carefully. Hopefully the thread screenshots might give you an idea of what you're looking for.)
Should I come back and find this post still in the dev section tomorrow, this space will be filled with Russian Nyan Cat.

[Q] Can Samsung Apps and/or S Pen apps be used on custom ROM's

Hi,
I just traded my Nexus 4 for a Note II and I was so quick to flash a custom ROM I never bothered to use the stock one that came with the phone. Yesterday I thought I'd try out the S-Pen in some drawing apps I downloaded but it was only working as a stylus not as a Wacom pen. I would like to know if there is a way to do the following:
Install Samsung App's on custom ROM?
Install S-Pen on custom ROM so it works as a Wacom pen and not a stylus?
Install S-Note?
Mod/Add-on for Note II custom ROMs for the S-Pen that I may have over looked?
Custom ROM's with support for Samsung Apps and S-Pen/S-Note?
Are there any ROM's that offer the best of both worlds (S-Pen/Samsung Apps/S-Note support on a custom ROM with Theme Chooser/notification background)?
Personally I've been using AOKP (or PACMAN/ROOT-BOX) ROM's for about 1.5 years and really like them and all the options and customization they provided on my Nexus phones but when it comes to the Note II those ROM's might have taken away more fuctionality than they give.
Please let me know your thoughts. Is the S-Pen is worth giving up custom ROM's or if its more of a gimmick. Are you running Stock ROM or Custom?
It will not work with AOKP roms. It will work with custom roms based off stock such as CleanRom. If you want to use AOKP, there are apps that support the s Pen in the PlayStore.

Give CleanRom a shot first. That was my first one I flashed and loved it. I couldnt tell the difference between the regular one or the AT&T exclusive one. Both are really good.
I am currently using JEDI cuz it has some MODS that I like. Skynote is a good one to try too.
What is the best alternative for snote?
I had the same problem as the title. I wanted to root my phone to enjoy it to the peaks. But the problem is the spen. I love the spen and iam so much used to snote that iam feeing bad to change the rom. For that reason i did a root but not a rom change. Please do suggest me any applications that work same like snote. And one more thing.. Will spen and snote work on cm? Any version of cm
S-Note won't work but the S-Pen will.
I posted this thread in the themes and apps section. It's a list of mods, apps ,and touchwiz like features you can install on your Cm/aosp ROMs.

I probably could come up with a table UI for one of my ROMs!!
that would be great too but i believe the minitab rom is a port with the base rom from Galaxy Note 10.1 (correct me if i am wrong) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2216311
If you can atleast have the phone.apk integrated with the tablet UI rom would be awesome

I am wanting to expand my ROMs to every type of ROM possible. I want to have the greatest variety of different options for users to pick from. That is my goal!
Wow great!!, in addition to your goal. IMO I would also love to see(if possible) roms with an option to choose from various UI like from sony, LG, HTC. That would be something unique and amazing to the users. Looking forward to the roms you will dev! . PM me if any sort of help is required in any way as my programming knowledge is definetly not like the pros but i have been with the community and also a flasholic for 4 years with different phones.

Porting touchwiz android 4.2.1 to I747 and other carrier variants.

Hey everyone. I am just getting into development and am looking for some experience in the field. I know it is not easy, but, if someone is not already working on this, would anyone like to join me in an attempt to port a touchwiz android 4.2.1 ROM from the international GS3 to all carrier variant GS3s? If so, respond here, or PM me. I am really interested in getting the ball rolling on this as the new touchwiz features intrigue me, but as a high school student I have no money for a galaxy s4.
Thanks for your interest.

I don't even think its possible to port from international..
I mean in general is it, but its completely rewriting everything from scratch since US and International is completely different hardware... That's why no one has done it.
Anyone feel free to correct me but OP, if you want to really accomplish this, you have a LONG way to work. Its easier to cook your own TW ROM

I was just wondering, because it has all of the new touchwiz functionality from the galaxy s4 (minus some of the hardware dependent stuff) so it just seemed like a cool idea. Maybe I can just get the cam, gallery, and some other stuff to work with our current touchwiz/android version.

That's if they even release TW source code... Which they probably wont since its closed sourse... The only hope is waiting for the US variant, but even with the US variant, its still closed. This is something extreme lol most elite devs won't even mess with TW since no code makes it extremely difficult... But we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, It is rather annoying. But is TW being closed source a new thing? Because if I remember correctly, some, if not all, of the Galaxy S3 TW versions were available open source.

The only source Samsung releases consist of kernel source code and various stock stuff. None of the stuff they release is for TW...
Touchwiz is and always has been closed source. If code was released for TW those featured would of already been implemented to AOSP based roms.
