Kernel and rom for battery - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys,
I've tried the codename android ROM and i've loved it, so with this rom my battery draining so fast.
So i've installed the rom minco v5 with the franco kernel and its really better for the battery. But with this rom i dont have any option to customize my phone.
So my question is, is the rom have an impact on the battery or just the kernel do the job?
So can you post your rom+kernel combo with your battery draining experience ?
Thanks

I personally have found less impact on battery life on rom/kernel combination than I felt I should have. My biggest boosts to battery life were disabling google now and putting the phone into edge mode when im not needing high speed connections.

from a logical point of view, it's more likely that more customization options will eat more battery, since there's more code running than stock. don't be mistaken, it's personal, your SPECIFIC usage will dictate battery drain. for me, stock has the best battery life.

is there a Rom/Kernal that is generally accepted to be the go to for awesome battery?

i did some searches in the forum, read up on saving battery tips, i hope i didnt just wake a sleeping beast. its not my first forum i have been on.
i was just wondering if in the community there is a generally accepted Rom/Kernal (i know they arent interchangeable) that is a must have for keeping ICS stock and increasing battery time to amazing levels. thanks for your input peeps!
Am running the Gummy Rom 0.7.0 with Imoseyon 1.8.0 kernel..i tried them all this seems to have the best battery for me,,Ive haven't messed with any overclocking or anything,,its awesome for me..
It is all different device to device for kernels at least.
Most people swear on Franco.kernel but I don't have much luck with it. I use GLaDOS.
A lot of people will say AOKP is the best rom for battery but I believe that is just because a lot of people use AOKP in general.
The stock kernel gets amazing battery.
i like the name of GLaDOS =D....ill do some research into it, thanks!
ill look into gummy rom as well...
do you guys think you are getting better bat life with the ROM you are using vs the stock one?
AOKP + Franco Kernel (or GLADOS)
and its also kernel not kernal (just for correction!)
the roms have a part in battery life..even as themes...sometimes darker themes use less brightness, less pixel use theoretically should use less battery..also my brightness is down to 25 to 30 range. brightness on these large screens kill battery....even the nexus stock is basically the same as far as battery...I think it really depends how much usage your doing....

I think it all depend on your usage, not on the rom
i definately agree with you guys on usage dictates battery life, i can make my phone last all day or kill it in 3hrs. i just wasnt sure if there is a gods kernel (thank you zephiK) that makes it last an awesome amount of time or what people see a huge improvement from heavy use.
i recommend android open kang project AOKP and franco's kernel
i noticed that with stock settings and no UV (yet) my phone has much better battery
currently 11hr 52 mins at 62%, however alot of that is standby time, with some texting and voice calls
franco kernel has a great battery life IMO
Apex by bigxie + nova launcher. OC 1350, UV recommended settings in second post in op http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399238

I have had improved battery life using this combination as well, and I use it pretty regularly throughout the day.

Best battery life AOSP ROM?

Anyone know which is the best on battery? I've tried Slim, CM10, and ICJ. I'll go as far as trying an ICS AOSP, but does anyone have any good recommendations? Is it possible that I could completely De-Sense a ROM? Like take a sense rom but have the AOSP notification drawer and settings and say Nova Launcher?

i think battery is more related to the kernel than the rom per se. That being said, I'd suggest ICJ since it uses NCX kernel by default and IMO that is the best kernel for battery life.

Completely agree! NCX kernels giving better battery life than other ones.

ICJ is probably the best One X ROM in terms of features, but for me it heats up way to quickly to the point where I can't use the ROM as battery drain is so bad.

99% of the time it's a rogue app doing that to the phone.
can you check in better battery stats which app is keeping the phone awake or if the phone is achieving deepsleep.
maybe one of the apps isn't playing nice with the phone and keeping it awake or draining it a lot.
if you're patient you can wait a while and try Owain's domination, which is my favorite aosp rom, though he hasn't been able to update it for a while,
but from what i've read, the next update should be amazingly awesome!!!
that + ncx's kernel should provide a good mix of battery life and features.

I'll give that a shot when I get home.

CM10 wins with zero idle drain over a few hours.

I'm using CM10 nightlies. With the stock kernel I was lucky to get 10 hours standby with average use or 1 hour screen, and the phone was getting very hot. I changed to the NCX kernel and now I'm getting 24 hours standby with average use or up to 4 hours screen time.
I am surprised no one mention CM10 SE ver 2. I am on it and this is the only AOSP ROM that I managed to convince myself to stay on. And I have tried the rest. My phone stays cool on it, I have not met with any bugs with my usual usage of games, xda, browsing, music, camera, phone.. and it is smooth. Feature-wise, it is not as rich as ICJ or AOSP but I never needed so many features and more features just add to the probability of more bugs.
Try out CM10 SE by Seadersn!

I'm a noob and only tried 2 custom ROMs, but CM10 nightlies were draining my battery too quick so i tried CM10 SE and have been with it for a few versions now. Find the battery great on it.
Once the AOSP ROMs work on new HBOOT ill unlock again, but for now I'm content with sense 4+ and nova launcher.

I've been using CM10 SE since yesterday and the battery has been fantastic. I'm on HBoot 1.31 so no GPS but everything else works perfectly. I went to bed last night with the battery on 87% and woke up this morning to find that it was still on 87%
Everyone has his own preference for ROMs. There's no point in comparing them with scales such as "speed", "battery life" or "smoothness".
You have to try them on your own and find out yourself.

[Q] Stock vs Custom

I have a custom ROM install on my GS3 but my battery is kind of ****. I have juice defender installed with the aggressive setting but I still find my battery dies fast. So basically I would like to know if the battery is better on stock vs a custom ROM.

What ROM are you currently running? You'll definitely get better battery life out of a stock based ROM with a custom kernel, than an AOSP ROM like CM 10.1 or AOKP currently. As both those being 4.2 based still have bugs to be worked out. As always though YMMV with ANY ROM. Try out Better Battery Stats off the Play store and see if you are getting some weird kernel wakelocks. CPU Spy is another good free alternative.

Help! Suggest me a good rom with good battery life

Anyone can suggest me a rom that can maximize the battery life of my nexus, I don't care if the performance of the phone is sacrificed in exchange for a better battery life.
Focus more on the kernel and your settings.

I'm a fan of XenonHD rom, you should try this one.

@najaboy
I totally get the settings part, but the kernel, how? Can you explain more?
@quivertaotao
Thanks for your suggestion, I'll try to look at that later.

Question Best kernel for battery life?

Hey, I'm looking for a kernel that gives great battery life and performance at the same time. I currently have installed a custom OS in my phone, so it's not running stock, but a port of the S21FE, you may already know it since it's for this device.
Any suggestions are accepted
Hi,
I'm not actually using any custom kernel for that purpose but I'm using NCX custom rom : https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-port-oneui5-1-ncx-s21fe-rom-sm-a528b.4526805/ and I can confim that it's really great for everythng and for battery life as well.
If you are in mind to try a custom rom, yo ucan do that and check by yourself !

Yeah, that's the ROM I'm using, was gonna ping the author but forgot his full username. Overall it's because I've got almost 8h SOT every day and I'm a really heavy user so I need the best battery life possible

You could debloat further NCX rom in order to maximize battery life by using https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...mate-app-manager-debloat-tool-tweaks.4147837/. BTW, if this is not enough you have no choise but to try the custom kernel and see if it helps https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/kernel-12-13-a528b-n-mesas-custom-kernel-r5.4490653/
