Hello,
About a month ago I bought two "stock" batteries and a wall charger off eBay from HK for about $15. Initial viewing of them showed they looked identical to the one in my phone.
It's been about a month and I've mixed the three batteries up and currently 1 of them looks like new and 2 are a little warped, ink is coming off the label, and I noticed the little water damage indicator has X's all over them. I have included a photo of one as an example.
The phone has not had any water touching it. I don't think I had the batteries anywhere where they would get wet either but maybe?
Anyone got an idea on whether it's fake or?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
for that cheap ya I would say its fake. If they are misforming, take them to a battery recycle center (do not throw in the garbage).
Not really sure. I don't have a stock battery, only a 2100mah OEM from the VZW store. That was 2-3 months ago and I don't have any ink smudges at all. Also my water damage indicator also has crosses printed on it, but they're red. Yours look a little blue or purple. Anything is possible I guess.
They look very flimsy to me, my water sticker is solid white, and also the covering on it looks very beat up lol... almost as if they could be real but beat up? and possibly water damaged before so they threw their own new water sticker lol..
Def fake. Bought the same deal and the batteries almost exploded in my phone.

You could always gently peel off the outer stickers of the battery.
The cheap ones from HK skip out on the NFC antenna. (see step 5 of page 1 from the GN teardown on ifixit for reference)
But judging from the price, yeah that's most definitely a knockoff.
Batteries are one thing not to skimp on. Buy real ones and pay full price. I've seen street booths in China make shan jai (fake) batteries by the thousands.
They are sh*t and truly you get what you pay for.

Is testing whether NFC works with them necessarily a definitive answer, or only proves that they are fake, not that they are not?
I do remember having issues trying to read my father's / brother's NFC cards, but I chalked it up to possibly my phone not being able to do so (credit card, but also state-issued ID and a school ID.)

Ah yes I can see my ambiguity, sorry. It only proves that it's a fake when it's missing.

It could be either. I too have NFC cards (e.g. my student card) that cannot be read.
Perhaps you could test your cards again trying one battery after another?

Over the years, my preferred method of addressing the wear/tear was not by using cases (which add bulk), but my simply getting a new phone housing when the old one gets too scratched up.
And it looks like OEM-like housing for HD mini are beginning to appear on the market, such as here.
Looks like HD mini housing is absolutely identical to Aria's. I'm going to stock up on one and give it a try.
Please let us know how this works out, I wonder if someone will sell just the back cover.

With most phones now having glass in the capacitive touch screens, I just don't see your extra housing providing much protection from a drop.
It's still a good idea though.

Indeed I'd be concerned about the screen in the case of a drop, but agreed its a good idea. Let us know how this works out, I'll have to keep it in mind if it does work on if/when my housing ever takes a beating
I bought 2 of these from ebay thinking the exact same thing. They were advertised for the HD mini as we all now know it is the arias winmo twin. When i received my housings I was very excited to try them on but ended up being very disappointed. The housing came with a few pieces of excess plastic from the manufacturing process which was no big deal. Next I noticed that there were no volume buttons, again not too big of a big deal as they can be carefully removed off the old case and hopefully attached to the new case. The absolute deal breaker was the fact that the Aria antenna IS the back cover, and this replacement did not include the antenna. I examined the original and I do not believe it is possible to remove the antenna and reattach it to a replacement. However this particular housing may be different, either way let us know what your results were.

That's a case, what's being discussed here is the actual body of the phone
It's too bad about the mini's back cover not having the antenna contacts, hopefully true Aria accessories will start coming out and you can get your hands on a real housing for it

Rebranded Seidio for sure. And the case you spoke about is probably the extended rugged case available on the seidio online store.
Best Buy must have some deal with Seidio. Their "Pt" brand is all Seidio product, it says it on the bottom of every package. I just think it is such a waste of money when you can buy the same thing on ebay for $10....only difference is the ebay battery has a door that actually looks good....that Seidio door is just fugly!!
The main advantage of buying it in the store is if it goes downhill you can exchange it easily. Also for me its worth it cuz i get these dirt cheap with discount but im passing this up and staying with my sprint battery.
The case i mentioned isnt a case, its a belt clip for a naked device that works for extended batteries cuz it only clips at top and bottom.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Well if some one is worried about the ebay battery messing up, then just buy 2, or 3, heck or even 6 and spend the same as 1 from Best Buy or Seidio. I gaurantee you that out of those 6 you'll have 1 that works....more than likely all 6 will though. I have had my ebay battery for almost 3 months now and it works GREAT!!
StanglifeMike,
Let me ask you this....
1. Ebay batteries and memory cards are way full of fakes, clones, fake labeled products.
2. LIoN and LIpO both are extremely volatile and can/will burst into flames destroying everything around it.
Given 1 & 2, is that few extra $ you're saving worth that kind of risk?
Would you buy a known dangerous possible fake NOS tank for your Mustang when you know you're rolling the dice when you use it? I am sure you're not going to put Yugo parts in your 'stang.
Just some things you don't skimp on in life... Lithium class batteries would be pretty high on that category.

lion and lipo batteries are coming along quite nicely and I have yet to see one "burst into flames destroying everything around it." I personally do not bleed into this fallacy as quite frankly, as long as they are cared for properly, they will give you the desired outcome.
I've used 11.1v 1200mAh 20C LiPo battery packs in airsoft guns that under go sustained/ constant drain for their entire use; and while they may heat up I still have NEVER seen one burst from use.
Now if you were to cross the connection by mistake... well then I've shorted out a LiPo cell before due to that... but it never exploded.
I've had a NiMH battery pack explode on me causing flames to emit from the battery, melting plastic and clothing near the battery until I threw it into a metal garbage can and a ton of snow on it.
I've had 1 let go personally wiping out one of my Heli's, and at the field I've seen 2 others go in a similar spectacular fashion.
I will admit it's not always the charge, sometimes it's impact or other damage.
You may not "buy into it" or you may call it a fallacy, but consider the millions of recalled laptop batteries that caused fires, cellphones that have burst into flame, etc.
It doesn't explode, it ruptures and bursts into flame. It's rather impressive.
Want to try it for yourself? Charge up a spare evo battery, take it outside and shoot it with a pellet gun/.22. Rupture the case and expose it and you'll get the same reaction. Lest you want to join the Darwin award recipients, I suggest you keep a safe distance away and don't breathe the smoke produced.
I'm not saying that I don't believe that LiPo batteries don't explode (or malfunction and ignite), I guess I had that worded to the extent where I say "it'll never happen because I've never seen it." I'm not saying that, i'm sorry.
What I am saying however, I the last time I've personally seen a recall on a cell phone or laptop battery due to defect causing injury, pain, illness, or discomfort while using has been a while. Technology is coming along nicely even with batteries, yet I think we'd all agree that we need battery technology to hurry and catch up to cellphone tech. so we can get more than a days good use from it.
And we all know that the knock off batteries and the like coming from overseas are something to be questioned........ but......... don't almost if not ALL of our batteries we use come from overseas?
Every time I buy a product I'm taking a gamble, not just when purchasing from eBay.
NM Didn't read.
I am thinking about getting an extended battery for my Vibrant, specifically this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/3500mAh-Battery-w-Back-Cover-Samsung-Vibrant-T959-/280576737493. Now, I was wondering if I could get feedback from owners for extended batteries:
Which one did you get?
What is the quality -- how long does it last you?
Can you provide pics of how much fatter it made your phone?
Thanks!

Extended battery with Clear Protector for entire phone
Use this and your battery life more than doubles. It is very comfortable, rubberized coating, and the battery rocks. The door is quite thin considering and fits comfortably in the hand. They are also going to make custom clear protectors for the entire phone and have them up for sale within 2 weeks.

Yes. About 3.5 times the cost of a typical OEM 1500mAh battery but it's not like there is much competition at size. If they produced them on a scale closer to Samsung's own, they'd possibly be cheaper.
I've also seen the cheap non OEM batteries not even charge all the way up to their advertised capacity and then their efficiency is also worse than the OEM battery. I've also seen many Vibrants busted by using cheap batteries. They've overheated, exploded or caused component failures before exploding.
At least OEM batteries perform as expected for the most part. Anyone done any or seen any performance tests done on these Mugen batteries? I'd expect them to at least perform as advertised given the price. I might actually consider getting one of these even though it costs more than what I paid for the phone itself! LOL
If you don't buy direct, you can find the Mugen one online for less than $100.

Thank you.
I would like to see something better comparison wise than a lighter, I really want to be able to keep on 3g all day and get most of a days charge.. I have to keep off 3g, bluetooth, gps all the time to get 17+ hours out of my phone.. and heaven forbid I use google maps or something.
Don't get me wrong, my phone is awesome, I am used to having to keep things like 3g off to have enough battery, but it would be nice to be able to USE the phone without fear of it dying too early..

Samsung will replace it for you most likely. I know that my friend purchased a phone off Craigslist without the back cover and the imei was reported stolen to Samsung. They wouldn't help him out.
Often times when there's a missing back cover the phone has been stolen from a retail store. There's an adhesive puck that's placed and super glued onto the back cover.

your local Tmo might have a returned SGS II with an extra battery door. I know when i worked for Tmo all we had to return would be the main part of the phone and the battery (and even this wasnt required to be returned some times). We kept all the other items in a bin for customers so we could help them out, an extra charger, 1gb micro sd card etc.

thats what i was thinking also.
Nah I don't think so. Dude actually had 2 of them, the one he was using, and this one. He said this one was his wives and she didn't want it, plus they needed money. He told me they moved recently and put the phone in his pocket so the movers wouldn't be tempted to steal it. I dunno, seemed legit to me. It's working good for 2 days so far, I even took it to a T-mobile store today looking for a battery cover. I dunno, guess I'll find out sooner or later.
I was looking around on verizonwireless.com and couldn't find any extended battery's for the Gnex. I know they sell them, so I talked to a rep on the chat, and they said they didn't. Does anyone have a part number that I can reference?

It is made by Samsung.
I was just in my local Verizon store and they had some available. I am talking about the Samsung extended battery not a third party one.
Be warned that with the extended battery and extended battery cover, the back cover creaks if you push on it and also creaks when pushed down on a table. (This is worse than with the standard battery cover. I also have a volume rocker that rattles. Overall I am not impressed with the build quality of these phones but I will stay with it for the software.)
I bought the extended battery right from Samsung - Verizon was sold out.
I don't notice any creaking or squeaking from the extended battery door at all.

Hate to be "that guy", but mine doesn't creak. I remember on the Droid 1 there were some battery cover issues and they were fixed by simply putting a small folded piece of paper between the battery and the cover. The number of folds were determined via trial and error.
Good luck.
