[Q] Battery drains like hell for no reason. - HTC One X

I bought a HOX and since the beginning its battery drained like hell.. At first people told me it was because it was new and I needed to give it some time; then, I thought it was because there was stuff on the background and after checking that out, my preferences were ideal for the battery.
It was so drained that I'd go with 100% and wake up with 85%, touch it and have 81%, and lose 1% every minute by doing regular stuff [going to settings, SMS etc]. I decided to use my warranty and sent it to the lab, after 16 days they said the battery is just fine and that I hallucinate. I got it back, decided to get rid of the bad stock rom and flashed ARHD; battery still drains. I went to work with 32% listening to music, when I got there after 15 minutes it was 31%, then I didn't touch it for 2 hours and when I touched it I saw it was 21% [?!] and then for the next few hours, everytime I touched it to check the time it was one percentage less.
Lab claims it's ok, changed the rom, ideal preferences, no apps at all - what do I do?

Uhh...because its normal?

Hey, be patient. Get BetterBatteryStats and see the wake locks and kernel locks to see what's consuming so much battery, post the screenshots here so we can help you better.
There's a Battery Stats thread in the General section...it might help you.

Dude, 1% drain while listening to music is considered good in 15 mins. On average, 1%per3mins while listening to music is good already.

HUH? I'm talking about listening to music through earphones. When I had an iPhone I would listen to music for like an hour and it wouldn't drain even 1%, and iPhone's battery was way weaker.
Anyway, I tried the HTC function test, I switched it to flight mode and then the test left the screen on with maximum brightness for 1 hour, it's drained 14%; after that, I switched back to normal mode, turned the screen off and went back to sleep. After an hour I woke up with 81%!!!! Why in hell would my HTC drain 4% per hour with no use at all and no apps?!
Edit: I checked the clock 2 minutes ago, the battery was at 80%; I got an SMS now, battery is at 78%. It's just not normal!

Dude, I have a standby drain of 2-4% per hour and on screen time of about 3-4 hours. Listening to music drains about 2-3% every few minutes. That is normal man... as for your iPhone, its an iPhone.

Whining and discussing about it won't make your battery better. Get BetterBatteryStats and post screenshot.

Try using gsam battery monitor. See my screen shots. Will give you a clue as to what's draining your battery. Don't go as per my stats as I just did a wipe and reinstall.

install battery calibration and follow the instructions.

and pls stop checking battery every 2 mins. That will save hell alot of battery for you.

Charged to 100% then calibrated it, but then the battery went to 99% right away, and then after like 2 minutes of using the GSAM stats I pressed the "preferences" and PUFF! 96%. I don't get why it has to skip numbers. I think the Calibration kinda ruined the battery? Is it possible?

This battery life isn't normal right? Bad drain

I cant tell if it's always been like this. Or if this actually isn't normal because I'm always concern with battery life. Im a very heavy user in the sense my phone will be on and im texting, xda, social apps i.e google +, email check every hr, and twitter.
However, i started feeling like my battery has been draining alot faster when the screen is on. I have no problem with the phone sleeping. I was experience this on Calk rom and now acs ics rom. I literally can look at my battery percentage drop 10% in like a half hour. Is this normal if screen is on the whole time? I've used better battery stats and system panel I can't find anything causing the drain. I see the suspend and events but doesn't that effect the phone sleeping?

Are you on the new modem? Looks like you have weak a signal. EG31 might help a little if your not on it already. I used the full EG31 tar right when it dropped and have been getting great battery life (it may be to early but so far so good)

turn your display down to under 50% you won't see a difference except outside in daylight and kill this app every time you reboot the phone hit Settings>Applications>Running services then hit DRM content > stop > ok
I get over a day on one charge.

Ok ill try the drm content stop..however my display brightness is already down at like 10%.
Also, kill the Social Hub as well, that drains the battery significantly.
You might try one of several roms available in dev. They address most of the aforementioned issues.

The biggest battery drain reason is the location by wireless network option. Make sure its unchecked. Ever since I did that, my battery life has been awesome. I get to keep my brightness high, Bluetooth on, etc...

All the basics (brightness and all that stuff) on top of the stuff you have running. The darn task killer/manager I see in the icon top left of your screenshot is a HOG on resources check the caching... You can literally **** with these phones for half a day to set it up the right way to conserve. I think wireless is hogging too but I am talking primarily about the first part of your rapid loss, the left part of the graph so to speak.
JC
I purchased an extended battery and was still getting crappy battery life. SpareParts always FC'd on me... but last night I found Badass Battery Monitor in the market and in my opinion it's even better than SpareParts!
It helped me find that the Hotmail app was keeping my phone awake for almost an hour every day even though I had it set to download email only once a day. Removed that right away.
Plus it gives a great % readout in notification of the battery level. I think it's a fairly new app, but it really is worth checking out especially if you're having battery drain problems.
Just killing Social Hub has increased my battery life significantly. I'm at 11 hours now on battery, with 62% left. This is from last night when I unplugged the phone at 100%.

I'm on the Sydnicate Rom there isn't even no social hubb app. He has alot of the mods like noCiq and everything. My phone sleeps well its just when I start using it I can see it basically draining like 10% every half hour. I'm a heavy user I know my phone will drain fast while I'm on it I just would expect it to last 8-10 hours on heavy use.
Right NOW:
I'm at 4 hours 12 mins 22 secs at 37% left.
Display Time is 50% 2 hrs 41 mins 51s (Brightness is set all the way down)
Android OS 10%
So I'm assuming in 2 more hours my phone will die. If this is just normal for a heavy user then I guess I have to deal with it?
I was very disappointed with my Epic Touch when I first got it. I was getting a dead battery in about 6 to 8 hours no matter what I did or did not do.
Calibrating the battery seems to have fixed it.
I'm at 73% battery with 8:32 hours up time and I've made about 12 calls ranging from 2 to 10 minutes.
I've also checked voice mails, emails and other stuff.
I just charged the battery til it was full, plugged and repeated until it stayed at 10%, popped into CWM5 and cleared the battery data and then used Battery Calibration from the market (free) and it's like a got a battery upgrade!
As far as wake lock issues, I've not having any of those. I took my charger off the phone around 3:30am this morning (100% charge) and when I left for work at 6:50am, I had 98% battery still.
When I got to work it was down to 96%, I checked my email on the drive there.
I'm trying this out, wish me luck.
There doesn't seem to be any possible way to charge my battery to 100%, unplug it and not have it immediately drop to 99%.

If those screens are both from the same charge, I see nothing wrong with your phone.
you have 17% left, and you have 2.5 hours of screen on time. So you're on target to get just over 3 hours of on screeen time which is completely in the norm for these phones. AND you're over 12 hours. I don't understand what else you could ask for?
People get all caught up on total charge time, but, to be honest, it's completely IRRELEVENT.
If I dont use my phone I'll get easily over 48 hours out of the phone... Screen on time is what matters. And from a full charge, if I were to use my phone for 4 straight hours without stopping, it would be about dead. When the screen is on, you're using the phone, and the display is the biggest battery suck out there. When I do all the tricks to conserve battery, and I set it up right, I get 4 hours screen on time, which is pretty incredible with these phones.
Now, If you WANT to get better then you have right now, a few things are coming into play.
1) Your signal is weak, this will suck power no matter what more then it should, so get better signal if you want some more time out of your phone.
2) If you installed a new rom, and you didn't calibrate your battery properly, you're losing battery life.
to calibrate properly:
a) download battery callibration app from market
b) charge to 100%
c) unplug battery charger and REPLUG IN and wait for 100%
d) repeat step c a couple times
e) while plugged in hit the calibrate battery button in the app
f) unplug phone and use til dead and recharge
This will yeild you the best battery life.
3) De-Theme. Although I use a theme, every theme I've tested, for one reason or another, drains my battery faster then running the stock phone theme.
4) If you haven't done the basic battery saving things, you should do them to help yourself out. Here's a few I use.
a) Turn off background data, you only need it on to use market
b) Turn off, or set sync for all email and social apps at as long intervals as possible
c) dont use any widgets
d) download watchdog lite so you can see when apps are acting up and using extra battery
e) when you're done using your phone, open task manager, kill all apps, and clear memory
f) always leave the brightness off automatic and as low as possible
g) download SETCPU and run your phone at 800mhz, and undervolt as much as possible (50mv most all phone can take)
h) use black or dark wallpapers, on LED screens back means the pixel is off which uses less battery
G will be your biggest battery save. I've also tried using the SUPERFREEZE thing in the dev section and, besides in sleep mode, I saw no adverse effect. If you wanna kill socialhub, fine, but I dont see any noticable difference on my phone with it off.
If you do all these I promise you'll get better battery life.
Wow, I did a proper calibration today and I'm getting great results already. I've calibrated before but I never had cleared stats in CWM or did the unplug then replug charging thing.
Anyways, I after 12 hours I'm still at 35%! The longest I've ever gone before is 12.5 hours. Screen on time = 1 hour 30 min, but some of that was a battery intensive game (puzzle quest 2). Also i'm running calk's rom, so i'm sure that helped.
Thanks kdoggy, i didn't expect to see results this great.
Those are good tips too Jermzz, thanks!

Battery drain issue?

Hey guys,
so I recently purchased an International HTC One X and hsve loved it so far, but I think the battery is draining too fast.
On standby, it drained from 93% to 89-92% in 8 hrs which I suppose is good, but while using, it drops pretty quick. I wanna know how many hours or how much percentage does your battery decrease by while on standby or during use?
By the statistics I have provided, do u think there's anything wrong with my battery?
PS: I used the built in battery app, go to settings>power
Thanks, Id really appreciate it if u could help out since I'm worried if my newly expensively bought phone has something wrong with it or not, ill hit the thanks button

Battery drain
I'm currently on Leedroid' ROM and the behaviour is similar to what I had with the stock rom and looks like the folowing:
Data or WiFi on, autobrightness on, autosync off
Hangs a litle on 100% then dops abruptly from 98-97% to 80% in about 4-5 hrs with a screen time under 30'
from 70% to 30% however, the battery drain "magically" improves giving 6-8 hrs of standby including 2 hrs of screen time of which the most is used to browse the net via 3G.
At the moment my stats are: 13h 50' on baterry, 2h 15' screen time, 21% left
I got a steep drop from 31% to 21%, just as I was checking the stats for this message, but bare in mind this is the first run with Leedroid (flashed last evening) so I expect things to improve.
After 10-12 days on the stock rom I remember getting some 3-3.5 hrs of screen time within 16 - 18 hrs total before reaching 10%.
So i suggest, give the battery a little time to settle, then adjust your usage habits according to what you get (like turning autobrightness off, data off etc).
I for one am waiting for some stable kernel improvments regarding the tegra power mangement (sounds cool, have no idea what I'm talking about and I expect to get some 20-30% more screen time within the same time period (18-20hrs).
I've been running a few battery tests. Last night I wanted to totally burn out the battery so I used it down to about 5% and started a youtube movie streaming over wifi at full brightness. An hour later...... it finally died.
The companion core on this thing can really confuse you are testing standby time or music and video playback.
I want a mod for the phone where I can toggle it to use 1, 2, or 4 cores. To the OS, it looks like core0 is also the companion core.
Thanks

so do you think there really is something wrong with my battery?
i read on a popular android website that they played a video on mx player in loops and it lasted for 6 hrs and 6 mins, which makes like 17 percent for every hour of viewing. I downloaded mx player, gonna watch a movie, and hope the battery drain is on par
The less battery doesnt bother me much, what does is that im worried that there MAY be something wrong with my battery, gonna try out for a day or 2, gonna see if my results can match urs, thanks
just hope theres nothing wrong with my battery
PS: i have everything stock, i unlocked bootloader, flash CWM5.8.x.x but returned to stock later.

So the browsing drained about 70% of the battery right? Suppose those 11 hours of sleep took even 10%, and u have 21% left, so u spent about 70% on the browsing right? Thanks
when you charge to 100% it drops down to 95% then charges back up to stop over charging, who ever it doesn't show you the % it just says 100% thats why you can lose ~5% in a few seconds when first taking it off charge.
yesterday i got 14 hours 9% left and had just a little over 4 hours screen time on leedroid 5.1.
playing games is a massive drain

Battery Fix
I had a pretty serious battery issue during my first couple days with the phone, where the battery drain was extremely fast and inconsistent, sometimes dropping 5% at a time and giving me maybe 8 hours of life total.
The issue was that the battery tracking in the phone was messed up. When you go to Settings>Power, the default setting for "Fast Boot" is on. This seems to mess up the way that battery drain is tracked. I fixed the issue by turning Fast Boot off, charging up the phone to 99% (it wouldn't reach 100, that's how bad it was messed up), then restarting it. Now, it works perfectly and easily gets me through the day with moderate/heavy usage; I watched a 30 min video streaming from youtube of wifi and lost only 7%.
The downside is now the phone takes 5 seconds longer to start up .

All of your battery issue will be sorted out people..don't forget that One X is still running on GB kernel n so is transformer prime..Nvidia n HTC are working on the ICS kernel..n once they are out with it our HOX is gonna blow away everything in the Market in both performance n battery life

Does LTE really drain battery that much?

I will leave my phone alone for about two hours and when I check back there will be 25% battery gone. Is this normal? Should I report back after I've used the phone for a week or so? I just got the phone this weekend.
Lte does drain battery very fast but I don't think that is normal. Are you in an area of poor coverage? You could also have a wake lock. You can check for wake locks with better battery stats.
LTE will only drain battery during use so that isn't your problem.

Will do. So far after a full recharge after my battery was dead I had it just sitting on my desk for about 40 minutes and it was still at 99%. I'll leave it uncharged while I sleep and see how it is doing in the morning and I'll post the stats.
Hmmm, it seems that from overnight (About 7 hours) it has drained about 9%. Is this normal? I'll see how it does through work today and I'll report back tonight. It doesn't seem to be draining as much as it did before.

Seems I overlooked calibrating the battery with a power run out since it is a new phone. It seems me letting it run down fixed my problem. Its been about 3 hours and I'm only down about 4%. I'll still monitor it every 2 hours or so and post the results at night.

Hmmm, it seems that from overnight (About 7 hours) it has drained about 9%. Is this normal? I'll see how it does through work today and I'll report back tonight. It doesn't seem to be draining as much as it did before.

Yup...that's totally normal for a healthy stock battery without any major mods or tweaks.
That's about 1.29% per hour.
If you want to get that number down closer to .5% per hour, try an app called Green Power. You can set it to turn off wifi/data when your screen is off. You can tell it to wait say 30secs before it does this.
Then you can tell it to enable wifi/data at "screen on" or at "screen unlock".
If you don't use push mail etc., this is a good option to keep your battery drain minimal in standby. You can also choose this behavior for night time only. And...you can choose apps to go into the "exceptions" list...a a whole bunch more fine tuning.

[Q] Battery Drain Over Night

When I had my Note 1, for some reason over night it would drain like 50% of the battery, no idea why so I sold it. When I has my iPhone the most it ever drained over night was about 5%, 4 and 5. Last night my Note 2 drained about 12%, the only App open was the Alarm.
I know 12% isn't anything major, but with the problems I had with the Note 1 I just don't want to wake up have been fully charged the night before and then have to charge in order to even use it the next day. I need an alarm set or I won't wake up to go to work.
What is the best way to keep battery life over night but still have an alarm set?

Install betterbatterystats from playstore to keep a check on Battery hogging useless apps.
YOu dont need to keep the Alarm open in the background exclusively. When you set an alarm,it would be there untill you disable it manually.
12% overnight is a bit more than normal. For a 6-7 hours, battery drain should not be more than 5-6% when the screen is off and phone goes into Deep Sleep mode.
Why not just charge it over night so that you always wake up with 100% :S

Cause the charge cable is short and doesn't reach to a sensible spot for me to be able to quickly turn the alarm off before it wakes the rest of the house up!
I'll do a few more test runs before I install any battery apps, from what I have seen so far most apps actually mess up the battery for me. That Battery Widget Reborn on my Nexus 7 takes the charge time from about 2-3 hours to 7-8. And one's I've used in the past actually drain it quicker.

Hit thanks if you love your phone =)
Ah that's a fair reason
I left mine off charge over night so I could compare. I left everything on as per my usual day (WiFi, GPS, auto sync) and had an alarm set.
I lost about 12% as well

Betterbatterystats is not an "battery" app. Is an app the monitors your phone and reports misbehaving apps or partial and kernel wakelocks.
It has nothing to do with increasing battery charge time.
Search it.

May have to give it a go if the problem persists, but for 10% battery it's not major. But thanks for clearing that up!
The only thing that you need to do is turn off data connections and wifi. This way I lose 1-2% battery life over night.
Well Android's ecosystem is made in this way. Literally you can't do anything. If an app or a couple of apps think that they need to run at a certain time, then they WILL run, it's as simple as that. No app is there to stop it, but yes some apps are there to make it worse, so stay away from them. One night you will notice 5% drain, the other night 10%, with same exact settings.
Still try to turn off Data/3G at night, if you don't need it. And get used with it

+1 :good:

Is my battery life normal?

I went to bed last night after unplugging my phone at 100% and woke up to find it at 84%. After browsing through the Internet for around 30 minutes, the battery dropped another 10%. I just downloaded gsam and will post up a screen shot after a full days of use. But I have seen people who can go 7 hours continuous YouTube streaming with this phone. I've owned this phone for almost 2 weeks.

i have found that my M8 tends to drain quite a bit in deep sleep. I had a nexus 5 and with everything off except wifi, i'd lose 3-4% in 8 hrs. compared to the same settings and a 10% drain on my m8.

There's over 900 replies in that thread dedicated to the battery of the M8
Guys I had the same issue in deep sleep but with a custom kernel(i have the ElementalX), my phone now in deep sleep loose 1-2% the whole night!

Go to settings, and battery history. If 3. bar is always active, then something is unnecessary draining your phone. I don't know what. Download Clean Master and clean RAM, or just reboot the phone, and that issue will probably dissappear

There's definitely something wrong. Download GSam to find out which apps are draining your battery, then fix their settings (ie. social media apps are always syncing by default, turn that plague OFF). I suggest to freeze all apps you aren't actively using especially those who seem to be draining your battery. On the M8 you should expect at LEAST a full day of heavy usage, ie. 5hrs screen on time + 20 hrs standby.
