[Q] Battery Drain Over Night - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I had my Note 1, for some reason over night it would drain like 50% of the battery, no idea why so I sold it. When I has my iPhone the most it ever drained over night was about 5%, 4 and 5. Last night my Note 2 drained about 12%, the only App open was the Alarm.
I know 12% isn't anything major, but with the problems I had with the Note 1 I just don't want to wake up have been fully charged the night before and then have to charge in order to even use it the next day. I need an alarm set or I won't wake up to go to work.
What is the best way to keep battery life over night but still have an alarm set?

Install betterbatterystats from playstore to keep a check on Battery hogging useless apps.
YOu dont need to keep the Alarm open in the background exclusively. When you set an alarm,it would be there untill you disable it manually.
12% overnight is a bit more than normal. For a 6-7 hours, battery drain should not be more than 5-6% when the screen is off and phone goes into Deep Sleep mode.

Why not just charge it over night so that you always wake up with 100% :S

Cause the charge cable is short and doesn't reach to a sensible spot for me to be able to quickly turn the alarm off before it wakes the rest of the house up!
I'll do a few more test runs before I install any battery apps, from what I have seen so far most apps actually mess up the battery for me. That Battery Widget Reborn on my Nexus 7 takes the charge time from about 2-3 hours to 7-8. And one's I've used in the past actually drain it quicker.

Hit thanks if you love your phone =)

Ah that's a fair reason
I left mine off charge over night so I could compare. I left everything on as per my usual day (WiFi, GPS, auto sync) and had an alarm set.
I lost about 12% as well

Betterbatterystats is not an "battery" app. Is an app the monitors your phone and reports misbehaving apps or partial and kernel wakelocks.
It has nothing to do with increasing battery charge time.
Search it.

May have to give it a go if the problem persists, but for 10% battery it's not major. But thanks for clearing that up!

The only thing that you need to do is turn off data connections and wifi. This way I lose 1-2% battery life over night.

Well Android's ecosystem is made in this way. Literally you can't do anything. If an app or a couple of apps think that they need to run at a certain time, then they WILL run, it's as simple as that. No app is there to stop it, but yes some apps are there to make it worse, so stay away from them. One night you will notice 5% drain, the other night 10%, with same exact settings.
Still try to turn off Data/3G at night, if you don't need it. And get used with it

Excessive Battery Drain Problem

I recently upgraded from a Galaxy I9000M to a Galaxy S III, and I'm loving everything about the phone so far.
...With one exception; the battery has been draining way too fast for me to use it normally. At this rate, I would have to charge it 3 times a day to keep it alive..
I went to sleep last night with the phone on a full 100% charge, and when I woke up, it was at 10% battery. Now, I'm mostly aware of how to keep battery use low (I keep my GPS off, Wifi/3g/LTE off, screen 50% brightness, Sync off, etc.) and it still dies way too fast. I'm reading reviews and reports of people getting a full days use out of it with no problems.

Here is my battery drain after ~2H from 100%, with the phone virtually UNTOUCHED.

top app draining my battery seems to be the System.. not quite a rogue app...
-- It seems as if something is keeping the phone in an "awake" state, killing the battery?
Any ideas as to what could be killing my battery so fast?
EDIT: It's also worth mentioning that the phone is on Stock rom, Unrooted.

I'll do that now, and I'll let it run overnight. Thanks.
For the moment, I uninstalled Lightflow, and it looks like it's gotten much better. My phone went to sleep for the first time in two days :good:

Galaxy Note II GT-N7100 battery problem

Hi guys, I just got my galaxy note II for like 2 weeks ago. And i've noticed a problem about my phone.
My galaxy note II will drain the battery for like more than 20% ( 20%-25% ) while its in idle. Which means after i fully charged my phone, i unplugged the charger and i used it for awhile more like it was left 92% before i slept. Then the next day when i woke up i noticed that my phone's battery drained about 20++%, it became 79% (i slept for 8-9 hours). I didnt leave it with wifi on. I just left it with 3G & power saving on!!!! This is a serious problem, i mean how is it possible to drain for 20% just for around 9 hours of sleep.
And one more question, how long does your galaxy note II battery last after a full charge with you playing checking the phone for message once for almost every 20 mins?
Normally i woke up around 9am for work and by the time i reach home at night around 12am. It still has around 30% of battery. But today, this strange thing happened. I unplugged my phone around 9.30 am. Starting of the day was okay, it was normal. But right after it was reduced to 60%, the battery started to drain faster. By 8.30am it was already left 25%.
:crying:
GUYS HELP PLEASE!!! AS IM NEW HERE. REALLY REALLY NEED A SUGGESTION ABOUT WHAT TO DO TO MY PHONE.

Yes the battery does drain even as you sleep. Keeping 3G on actually drains more than Wifi. So if you really want to preserve your battery overnight, turn off your mobile data totally. It is somewhat an annoyance that you can't choose between 2G/3G like you do with iPhone. If you still want that connectivity, leave wifi on instead of mobile data.Give it a try for one night and see how it goes.
Are you using any power saving apps?

I just tried again last night and it drains from 100% to 81% from 8 hours of sleep? Is it really normal?
I am using this app callee "cpu spy". Over 8 hours of state time. Only 5 and a half hour my phone is actually in deep sleep. 200mhz for almost nearly 2 hours. And the rest go to 1000mhz and 1400mhz. Do you understand what it means? I dont. Can you please explain?
And im not using any battery saving app. Any suggestions?

Strange, for me the battery is quite long lasting. What application is draining your battery?

You can change between 2g and 3g.
More settings > mobile network. GSM is 2g and wcdma is 3g.

Op have you installed viber by any chance? This app drained my battery quickly even when I am not using it.

Does LTE really drain battery that much?

I will leave my phone alone for about two hours and when I check back there will be 25% battery gone. Is this normal? Should I report back after I've used the phone for a week or so? I just got the phone this weekend.
Lte does drain battery very fast but I don't think that is normal. Are you in an area of poor coverage? You could also have a wake lock. You can check for wake locks with better battery stats.
LTE will only drain battery during use so that isn't your problem.

Ah I see. Well, my phone died before my work shift was even over. It must be whatever the wake lock thing is. Once I get this resolved I'll love this phone!
Better Battery Stats will help you pin point the wake lock. Post screen shots of this app if you don't understand how to read it.

Will do. So far after a full recharge after my battery was dead I had it just sitting on my desk for about 40 minutes and it was still at 99%. I'll leave it uncharged while I sleep and see how it is doing in the morning and I'll post the stats.
Hmmm, it seems that from overnight (About 7 hours) it has drained about 9%. Is this normal? I'll see how it does through work today and I'll report back tonight. It doesn't seem to be draining as much as it did before.

Oh yeah. Your good. 1% per hour idle is what you should hope for. But I wouldnt make a ruckus about 2% extra

Seems I overlooked calibrating the battery with a power run out since it is a new phone. It seems me letting it run down fixed my problem. Its been about 3 hours and I'm only down about 4%. I'll still monitor it every 2 hours or so and post the results at night.

Yup...that's totally normal for a healthy stock battery without any major mods or tweaks.
That's about 1.29% per hour.
If you want to get that number down closer to .5% per hour, try an app called Green Power. You can set it to turn off wifi/data when your screen is off. You can tell it to wait say 30secs before it does this.
Then you can tell it to enable wifi/data at "screen on" or at "screen unlock".
If you don't use push mail etc., this is a good option to keep your battery drain minimal in standby. You can also choose this behavior for night time only. And...you can choose apps to go into the "exceptions" list...a a whole bunch more fine tuning.

[Q] is 100% deepsleep possible

the perfectionist inside me want to get 100% deep sleep while the screen is off. So far using using BetterBatterStat, Greenify and various system setting i've got to 99% deep sleep 10 hours over night.
Just wondering if its possible to get to 100% deep sleep, although to be honest 99% is good enough as the battery usage is only about 1% per 10 hours
no
By turning ur phone off u have 100% deep sleep :banghead:

Sure it's possible -- just turn the thing off. But you can see the problems. And even with just 99% I have a feeling you're going to have problems when a phone call comes in. I've played around with deep sleep, gotten nowhere near 99% (probably just in the high 70s) and missed incoming calls and SMSes due to overzealous greenifying. Of course, if you never use your phone for actual calls and text messages, that might not matter to you -- in which case the power button is your friend.
mudge
Sure with aosp rom I come close to 99 percent but battery life is still crap.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Interesting! I played around with mine and the most i can get is 95% deep sleep. I believe 99% will put ur phone to almost dead!
It was a exercise to reduce background operations. The 99% was overnight with only the alarm on, ofc not achiveable during the day when using it. The various things such google location sync email sync and etc off. The phone and sms operations are ok, as greenify dont allow for suspension of system apps, although I hoped it would.
The good thing is 1% per 10 hour it would have a standby time of 1000 hours.

2nd time g3 battery died over night

Usually i charge my phone when i get home and unplug it when its at 100 before i go to bed. When i wake up its at about 90-100 battery life. Today it was completely dead and a couple days before. Have no idea what caused it but has anyone had that happen?

I had a similar issue. I charge at 100% before bed. Often wake up at 99 or 100%. The other day it was just above 30%. The problem was Boat Browser, which I left windows active/open.
Odd my battery died again I always make sure I have nothing running in the background.

Use an app like 'better battery stats', it will show you what's eating up your battery.
Does it die during the day as well?
I'm just curious, why would you unplug it at night before you go to bed? Wouldn't you want a fully charged phone for the next day?

Because lg has amazing idle time I usaly wake up and there would be a 3-6% drain from 100%
My phone stays at 100% for hours of use,so my guess is you are losing out on a few more hours of battery life during the day.
