[Q] selecting multiple contacts ... - Nokia Lumia 900

Hi All, is there any way we can select multiple contacts while sending same SMS.
regards,

I encountered the same "no multiple contacts" dilemma while creating a Group inside People. It really is a PITA not having a way of selecting more than one contact at a time!
Major FAIL if you ask me...
Otherwise I've found WM7.5 pleasing to use... Lacking but pleasing...

You can create a group with multiple contacts, and then in the group, there is an option to text to the whole group.

Unfortunately the grouping is limited only to 20 people.

I have never had the need to group text more than 20 people, but I did notice that when you choose text to everyone in the group, the To field has a + and you can add more name through your contacts. Does that limit you? Because you are not bounded by the group limit being 20.

Yes thanks for the tip, however that does tend to be a PITA when you use the groups and contacts often. (like for like social networking or business purposes).
I wouldn't mind the 20 people limit if at least I could select contacts via check-marks or something like that, but the current method of selecting and going back to the application and then selecting another one is just lame!
Sorry for the rant!

[Q] Matched contact suggestion??

Just received my Desire HD and after 1st sync I noticed a message saying "Matched contacts suggestion" with a list of some of my contacts...can anyone advise what this does?
If you're talking about when you link contacts, then I believe it just links certain contacts together into the same contact. You have to check through them though, because sometimes they may be trying to link two different people into the same contact.
Yeah, for example it may suggest you to link a Facebook contact to a phone contact, and if it is the same guy, you will see his Facebook updates when he/she calls you etc.
Yes, linked contact...its strange though as I dont have duplicates, so not sure why it would try to link some contacts...under what criteria? Thanks anyway.

assumedly you've signed into facebook or twitter.
What it's doing is going through your social network friends list and saying "Aha! I have that name in the phonebook. They probably don't want them in there twice, so I'll ask if they want me to link them"
As I'm signed into facebook and twitter via the app and via sense, some of my contacts have 4 links! It's so much better than having 5 contacts in my phonebook for each person
yes, that would make sense..but I dont have facebook or twitter (probably only person on the planet)..I did find in my google contacts online, that as well as "My Contacts", there was a group made called "Other contacts", which had copy of all my contacts, so I deleted the group..everything was ok for a while then I got message again asking if i want to link some contacts..weird.
even worse: no info whatsoever is given with regards to what it means if you tap the name and it becomes green? Do you eed to tap all of them?
pull down the notification bar and open the linked contacts (if its still asking you) and it'll tell you who it thinks can be linked...you can choose to accept or discard the suggestion. simple
and don't worry you can always unlink contacts later should you wish to.
Get it again
Hello,
I received this question also and I was selecting all my links one by one.
I thought what if I do 'dismiss all', then maybe I can 'select all' after that..
But all my suggestions where gone..
How can I get all the suggestions again?.. I have many contacts..
Thanks in advance from The Netherlands.
Best regards,
Johan Groeneveld

[Q] group text for win 7/HTC HD 7

Does anyone know if it is possible to send group text on win 7? I am using HTC HD 7.
Thanks
When you start a convo, there a little "+" symbol to the right where you put the persons name.
True. but i am unable to form a group. Looks like i have to select all the contacts every time i want to send a mass text.
Ohhhhh. I don't think that's available yet. Would be convienient. I know WP7 does save who u txt though in a history (I've used that several times) but I don't know how long that list is.
yes it is, I have done it a few times
Can you tell me how you made groups for group text on Win 7? I cant seem to figure that out.
After you send a text to multiple people, it stays in your conversation list as "X recipients" where X is the number of people you sent it to. You can just select that and then type a new message and it will send it to all of the same people.
Thanks.
It was just so easy in HD-2, that it was a no brainer. WM-7 just makes it a lil complicated. Looks like i have to save the group conversation just so that i can reply/send text to same people in future...hmm
Gorup text app

There's an app in the store under "Productivity." It lets you make groups, but, not from your contacts - you have to enter a phone number for each member and can't associate names with them.
Personally, I'm waiting for an app that allows you to create groups of existing contacts...

WP7 Email Client Issues / Missing Features

The WP7 email client has mostly worked fine, but it seems to lack a lot of features. Here are a few issues I've come across so far:
Sent Mail folder (for IMAP) hardcoded as "Sent Items" - not configurable (unlike iPhone and any modern email client), and different from desktop Outlook (which defaults to "Sent"); incompatible with most Linux email servers -- same problem as WM6.x had
Cannot edit quoted text when forwarding emails
Cannot select text (unlike other WP7 Office apps)
Cannot set port numbers for IMAP/POP/SMTP - auto-config works fine for most configurations, but sometimes not
Email status changes (e.g. delete, keep-as-new, etc.) not updated until sync interval or manual sync - iPhone and others instantly sync status changes

On this first point, turns out all the other email folder names are also hardcoded. When you delete emails, they have to go to "Deleted Items"-- otherwise they just disappear. (Outlook on the desktop defaults to "Trash" and is, unlike WP7, configurable)

You can change port like this :
Code:
In server name just enter : xxx.myserver.com:port

Ok so how you attach different files on WP7?
You see a file system? With all docs and all pics?

No, you cannot attach files to emails, as WP7 does not expose its file system to apps (outside of isolated storage).
The only things you can attach are photos from the phone's photo library. It's like what the iPhone 1.x email client was like in 2007 (minus all the features listed above).

Ok, thanks for clarifying.
You can attach documents to emails. You have to goto the Office hub, press and hold the document, hit send, then choose the email address you want to send from. Although it should be an option when you hit attach to attach a document or a picture.

Yes, I was asking about Multiple attachements.
It's so idiotic you cannot create multiple attachement emails.
Of course you cannot send video neither music.

You can send from within the Office app, but the email client UI itself is unable to attach anything but images. The iPhone has a similar limitation, but loads of apps can send email, and copy-and-paste alleviates at least a few of the challenges.
For instance, if I draft an email, then finish a document and want to attach it, in WP7 I'm SOL, as you have to first go to Office, select the finalized document, and then email, which creates a blank email, and you can't copy-and-paste the text from the message drafted earlier.
One solution might be to have a system whereby apps can register to have their file stores open to the email app to use for attachments.
Microsoft will kill all of us with wp7.
I do not know why????
Many disadvantages .

+1.................
i wish they did integrate categories (which outlook desktop offers). but anyways, the best work around i've seen is to create a text message (which is what i'm assuming you want this for) and add all the people you want to that message. then when you send it, and view the sms inbox, you can see the text you sent and it will say "x recipients". you can then reuse the list by clicking on it and writing a new message that way.
not the best approach, but it's works for the time being.
have you checked the marketplace?
I have seen sms apps in there like one called group sms or something to that effect.

[Q] Contacts, show contacts from only certain groups AND those unassigned.

I have three groups Family, Friends and Cooworkers.
Most of my contacts fall in a group above but some in none (eg. my barber) and I don't want to over-organize things.
I want the contacts/dialer to show all contacts, except from group Cooworkers.
Any ideas on how to achieve this?
1) I've tried setting the filter to Family, Friends - and sure Cooworker don't show but neither do unassigned.
2) If I include the group "My Contacts" - EVERYTHING is shown, regardless of other filters (how is that a feature?)
If I go with 1) then I have to remember to add new contacts to a group and frankly, I don't trust myself to do that.
So that's no option.
BEST would be if there'd be another group called "Unassigned" and I could then just tick Family, Friends, Unassigned...
How do I achieve this functionality?
Any other app capable of this?
Ideas?
