No you cannot OTA update to JB.
You'll have to wait for the RUU to be released and then flashed that.
Hope this helps.

must return original stock rom and recovery and locked bootloader command name

I am in stock rom. So can't ota else it will fail at recovery right?
To sum up, I need to refresh stock recovery, then relock my bootloader, then can OTA?
Can I still use the same token from HTC to unlock bootloader after I OTG?

Yes, with stock recovery and relock u should be able to get the OTA if it´s available for your CID.
And Yes, afaik, u can / have to use the same Unlock_code.bin.

1. adb reboot bootloader
2. fastboot oem relock
3. flash latest RUU, than OTA update to 2.17 (at least I had to do since there wasn't any 2.17 RUU for my CID).
4. Wait for the JB OTA

Hey, I've attached the stock recovery.
I have just finished a "downgrade myself" from ARHD 9.x back to H3G stock, removed CWM by writing the attached recovery in fastboot ("fastboot flash recovery endeavoru_recovery_signed.img") and took the latest OTA via settings.
Funnily enough, I didn't have to re-lock bootloader or remove superSU prior to the OTA. My suspicion is, I will have to re-write superSU. Other than that, my bootloader remains unlocked.
Just the waiting game now for Three to release the JB OTA!
Edit: I used this guide to re-flash stock recovery, it has links to download too Link

Not funny, it doesn't required to be 'lock' for OTA. HTCDev unlock statement actually mentioned about it, you just need to read.
Are you sure the recovery is the same for different CIDs' ROM.. else you cannot supply your recovery to OP like this..
---------- Post added at 02:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:16 AM ----------
OP, you just need to flash stock recovery to properly install OTA packages. You will lost root too after OTA.. Most probably corrected by update-script..
However, OTA may fail if you do this kinds of thing to your stock ROM :-
1. Removed system apps, while the OTA has a newer version of it ready to update.
2. Install mods which replaced system files, lead to invalid checksums.
3. Somthing else conflicted with update-script...
In short, you just rooted to backup, or installed some apps which required root access, you are fine with OTA..

You can get the stock recovery from your RUU (especialy for your device), just run the RUU till the files get unpacked in the tmp folder (somewhere in C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Temp\{guid}\{guid} Tip: order by date on Temp folder) and I think you can find the recovery image in the rom.zip.

Most other threads including this one, suggest that people should relock boot loader. I was merely informing OP that I didn't do that, and it still worked, but thanks for the confirmation.
With reference to the recovery, I passed a link to the guide I got my recovery from and IIRC it isn't CID specific.

OTA update failed

This morning I excitedly got a notification to update to 4.02. Installing update failed when phone rebooted to recovery and I got a red exclamation mark over the little Android.
My phone has been rooted with CMW installed. I know I lot of you will be thinking "just flash a different ROM" but the truth is I don't like any of the Roms currently available.
Did my update fail because of CWM? Or am I making a super noob mistake? Please help

yes CWM will cause update to fail the install. Flash the stock recovery img through fastboot if you want OTA's
---------- Post added at 03:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:05 AM ----------
download the stock system image files from google and extact it to find the recovery.img
- copy the recovery.img file to the directory that contains your fastboot utility
- start-up a terminal/command session
- put your phone into fastboot / bootloader mode
- type the following fastboot command to flash the stock recovery:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Thank you very much, i had the same problem this morning, the update disappeared so will it get back when i flash the recovery?
plus my launcher is modified will it affect the update?
it should come back if you check for updates in the system menu. If not it might take a few days to show back up from what I have heard. The launcher will not effect OTA's.
Please hit the thanks button if I helped

It won't work because you are rooted. The install looks for the stock bootloader. You don't have the stock bootloader because you rooted.

You are WRONG. Stop telling people wrong info. CWM is what caused the failure. Root doesn't mean you changed your bootloader.

thanks for reply, but as I said, I didn't flash CWM into my phone, I just boot it, in this case, it will also making this problem?
So, to clear this up for noobs (like me!)
If I root my Nexus, but keep it all stock, will I still get OTA updates?
If so, will an OTA update remove the root?
Thanks
The update won't work because you will be using a different recovery when you root. So the update does not install at all.
However the benefits of rooting will allow you to have the latest Google updates thanks to the hard work of devs here. So root and get romming!!!

If you just root the Phone and keep it complete stock (including Stock recovery, so not CWM) then OTA should work. I'm not sure about removing root though but I guess the OTA would not remove root. And if it does: It is easy to re-root isn't it?
The OTA should work if you didn't install CWM recovery or something like flashing a different radio. It removes root but you can easily re-root. I have not received 4.0.2 yet but when I received the volume fix update OTA I did not have any issues with it even though I was rooted. I just had to re-root after the update.

Original and modified OTA zip files 10/01/13

I got the OTA update notification today, but I couldn't install because of CWM.
I modified the zip to remove the recovery check, but it's the first one I've ever done, so I'm not sure if it will work. Either way, you'll probably have to reflash CWM if it does work.
As always, I'm not responsible for anything that goes wrong with your phone. Whether it blows up, catches fire, or just bricks....not my fault.
Anways, here are both the OG and the modified versions of the OTA update.
UPDATE: I just flashed the modified zip and it installed fine. Got rid of that annoying notification and I still kept root by choosing to fix root after flashing it.

I am s-on, but unlocked and rooted. I'm still unlocked and I'm still rooted after applying this update. I wouldn't recommend doing it on another Rom though. It would probably fail.

I can confirm this works fine as well. I had S-OFF through rumrunner and had flashed TWRP. To take the OTA, I re-flashed the stock recovery (.10) from the link given in this thread, then took the OTA. After the OTA installed with no problems, I re-installed a recovery (I changed to CWM, just for fun). I tested it by booting into recovery, and when I rebooted from CWM, it asked me if I wanted to re-install root (su). The phone now has the OTA (.15), still has SOFF and root was easily recovered.
I flashed the .10 stock recovery and I'm getting an error when I try the ota, any ideas why? I followed these instructions and I end up with a red triangle with exclamation point the reboot and phone works fine. Thanks for any help.
Edit:I got the congratulations message but when I checked it says failed, error 410. I've downloaded it a couple of times.

Remember (as said a million times already in multiple threads) - to flash an OTA you CANNOT have changed anything in the original system (fonts, Xposed mods, removing system apps, ANYTHING) otherwise the OTA WILL FAIL
i've browse mr.hofs thread and i've seen lots of stock recoveries. I don't know which stock recovery will I use.

Learn to do it yourself, relying on toolkits is a false economy as if anything goes wrong you'll have no idea how to fix it...

Yes, that has been mentioned quite a few times in various threads..However one question that pops up now is:
Lets says I did make changes to the system files by removing a system app or using xposed mods (but not flashing any custom roms). But these changes were made AFTER taking a backup of (unchanged) stock recovery. Will OTA still fail if i now flash stock recovery and then ota update? I am guessing it should work as i am bringing the phone back to stock status.
Also what if i do not flash any custom recovery, I just boot into it to take a backup and remain in stock rom. In that case, for an OTA update, do i still need to first flash stock recovery if I have not made changes to sys files?
Finally when you say OTA fail, does that mean there is a chance I will brick/soft brick my phone?or is it just an error message. I ask because in case i make changes to sys and then forget about it or do not realise its consequence for an OTA update, its better I know now what I am getting into.

The OTA requires a 100% stock running Android build, so if you have removed any system apps it will just fail and reboot to the ROM you're running at the moment (so you should be safe). Basically, if the /system partition on the phone is ANY way different from how it was when you first bought it the OTA will fail
For example, other than S-OFF my phone is exactly how I received it, therefore the new OTA update installed successfully. If I had removed one system app (e.g. Hangouts), it would fail as it's looking for it and if it can't find it it'll just reboot
i still have my S-OFF here in my HTC, and i haven't removed any system apps. i'll try this later this week.
i just needed my root because of setCPU nothing else.
--- anyway, since we're all learning here.
we'll for example, OTA has been updated and all goes well. now that i have to reflash my recovery to TWRP.
big question again, how do i save my stock recovery using TWRP?

If you're now on 1.54.401.10, you can manually extract it from the firmware package I uploaded HERE
I installed the OTA yesterday and had a different experience. I am with the stock rooted ROM, but I installed Xposed with some modules and the swipe to sleep and no write protection kernel modules. Also, unlocking the bootloader also ate my calculator and torch apps, and I reinstalled them as user apps instead of system apps.
Well, after flashing the stock recovery, the OTA worked like a charm. I applied it manually from the stock recovery, but I don't think this makes a difference. I had to re-root afterwards, but all the rest was preserved.
I am S-OFF though. Is that the reason why it bypassed some security checks?

I can see the apps that were removed during unlocking still working if installed as user apps as they're still on the /data partition. If they weren't there at all then it'd probably fail. Surprised that it worked with Xposed installed, but that's also a user app so it could very well work - logically it makes sense.
As a rule of thumb I'd only apply an OTA on a 100% stock system, that way you know it'll all be fine

HTC M8 sdcard issues

Hi guys, i bought an m8. But have some problems. As 4.4 kitkat removes a lot of sdcard functionality, i want to root the device and get it back.
1.will i get ota updates while on stock rom, rooted, unlocked bootloader and s-off?
2. What is the best way to preserve stock recovery, specific to my device?
3.if i do get ota updates, will the update break my root? Or will the update and root clash?
4. My main goal is to get that sd card funtionality back, so if i get ota updates do i have to revert the changes?

1. As long as you have stock recovery, you should be able to get OTA updates. I'm not sure you'll be able to keep your root though.
2. There are plenty of stock recovery dumps around these threads. Look around and you'll find them. Either that or dump it yourself.
3. That is hard to say. I've seen it happen both ways across different devices. You can try to preserve root via SuperSU, but there's no guarantee this will work. The worst that could happen is the OTA getting rid of root, in which case you could always root again.
4. The next OTA you'll get will most likely be Lollipop. From what I've heard, it actually brings back a lot of SD card write functionality that KitKat killed. So it will most likely overwrite your changes.
Right, thanks. Also is there some way i can copy my recovery for backup?

Google gives me this. I've never done this myself so please proceed with caution. I highly recommend just grabbing an already dumped recovery if you haven't done this before. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2450045
Ok ill see to that, also one final question. If i install a stock rom from another region (which got the lollipop update), will i continue to receive ota updates on my phone using that rom?
Also what is a RUU?

An RUU is a program which essentially wipes your phone and sets it to stock. As for flashing a Lollipop ROM from another region, you'd have to confirm that your phone would work fine with ROM. Worst thing that can happen is a soft brick I suppose. It's worth a try. Be warned you may run into issues.

No, you won't. The ROM has to be stock, and match the software for your CID & MID.

RUU = ROM update utility
Its a complete factory image. Usually comes as a Windows executable (so PC required). You relock your bootloader (if s-on, not needed for s-off), and just run the RUU with phone connected to PC, and the RUU will write the phone back to stock. Its a pretty easy way to return to stock, if RUU is available for your carrier/region version.
Also, RUU needs to be same or equal version hboot, etc. than what is on the phone (no "downgrading" allowed unless you are s-off).

After you unlock the bootloader, but before you flash custom recovery, you can fastboot boot into TWRP (not flash it yet), then use TWRP to create a backup of your recovery partition.

1. You need stock ROM (nothing that you deleted or modified in the /system partition aside from just root) and stock recovery. Root is okay, unlocked bootloader is s-off is okay (to OTA). But you will likely lose root after you OTA (just install custom recovery again, and re-root).
2) Backup stock recovery as I indicated above, or find the right stock recovery here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
You may also be able to find the right stock ROM for your CID and software number, if you need it.
3) Already answered in Item #1 above.
4) I forget what the SD card fix entails. If it modifies anything in /system, you will need to make it stock again to OTA. Or if you flash a stock ROM, it will also probably revert the SD fix. After an OTA, yes I believe you would need to apply the fix again.
