[Q] Camera failed - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
A week after I purchased my Galaxy Note 2, the back camera has stopped working. Now, each time I start the Camera app, it says " Camera failed " and FC.
Is there anything I could try to do to try and fix this issue?... as I do not want to send it back for servicing. Same thing happened to my Galaxy S a while back, but a restart fixed it. Now it does not do anything.

You might try a data/factory reset in settings, backup and restore. Backup files first as your internal memory will be wiped in the procedure. If that doesn`t work reflash your rom with Odin, see here for how to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696, DO NOT USE A PIT FILE WITH ODIN

Thanks I will try doing this as soon as I get home from work. Hope it works.

Try to delete camera cache and data for the camera in settings/ applications
sent from my galaxy note 2 (7100)

Im sure u still in warranty..just send for warranty claim..that is the best method..
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app

Sadly, I'm going to have to send it back for repairs as nothing managed to fix the issue.
It just sucks that after just 2-3 weeks it breaks. Oh well...

What do you solve with camera? I have now the same problem with my galaxy note 2.

I too have the same problem and local service center won't accept it since purchased overseas. Anyone found a solution? How can I check if the camera firmware is ok? Whenever I try to go into the camera secret menu by dialling *#34971539#, I get an error that the application Factory Test has crashed unexpectedly and it FC. Does this point to the software issue? Using stock firmware "XXDMA6_N7100OLBDMA4" and non rooted. I have even tried opening the phone and checking for loose connection for the rear camera module flex cable and re-seating it but problem still persists. Front camera and all other functions work fine. When start the camera application, it FC. Other 3rd part camera applications also come up with an error.

No, I am still looking for a solution. Do you have any files in the 'system/etc/firmware' folder of the phone? I believe that is where the camera firmware resides but it is the phone firmware and not the camera firmware. The camera firmware will be updated with the phone firmware if you select the 'phone to cam fw write' function. There should be a firmware residing on the phone module itself I believe and this is what is reported as the camera firmware version.

Fixed camera failed issue

I fixed my problem by buying a new camera module from the service center and installing to my phone. After checking the boot logs for my phone, I noticed that the camera module was not initializing and figured it was a hardware problem. That is also the reason why the cam fw could not be read. Cost me ~ USD30 to buy a new camera module with self installation for my note 2.

Though it is pretty late, I need your help in reading the boot log to understand if the camera is failing to initialized while booting? I've dropped my note 2 yesterday and since morning the primary camera is not working.
Kind Regards,
Abbas

A battery pull made the camera work again!

Put the stock ROM on the phone, do a factory reset. If this doesn't fix your problem then maybe you need to call Samsung as you have a HW issue.

flashed the stock rom still no change the wifi isn't working.
somebady have other ideas????
It sounds like a hardware problem
have you tested other devices on your wifi network .....
If it was just not connecting to your network . That would be fixable. But since even on the stock rom . It will not even turn on
Deffinately a hardware problem. Take it back to the store you bought it from.

GPS PROBLEM NO SATELLITE what so ever

hey guys
I recently purchased a used galaxy nexus and as soon as i got it i rooted it and headed to xda to see whats fresh.
After flashing and all that i tried to use GPS but sadly there was no satellite present so there could be no lock or anything
So I flashed another rom and still the same
So I went to stock image 4.2.2 still no satellite was found by my phone
I have look alot of places some say just turn off and turn on the location but that doesnt help either
Can you guys please help me
Right now I am running Rootool box the stable version with fancy kernal.
When i turn on gps... in the status bar it says searching for gps forever.... and the gps icon keeps on blinking.
Thank you
Have you changes Radio baseband?
If not then change it and maybe then GPS works!
GPS and radios have nothing to do with each other.
Does everything else work ok, like phone and data? Is the phone activated and have a good sim? Are you using the gps outside with a clear view of the sky? Have you waited up to 20 minutes for satellite acquisition?
If you answer yes to all the above, try downloading gps status app and use that to download new agps data. See if that works. If not, sounds like you may have a hardware issue.

if this is a hard ware problem should i talk to samsung and ask them to fix it?
Your last hope would be to restore a factory image again and see if that helps. Otherwise, Samsung would be your best bet

i had similar problem (no gps) when i tried to force OTA ( i think 4.1.1?) deleting the GOOGLE SERVICES FRAMEWORK
i GOT the ota
but after it started i never catched a gps signal
tried to reset but nothing
i had to manually reinstall from fastboot ( but i was on stock at that time.... dunno if using a modded recovery is SAME thing or it leaves some file behind)
hope it works....

Unknown Isuues with google play service
I don't really know why, but today I just installed TWRP recovery on my J1 device and then comes the problem about google play service. :crying:
What should I do? would by updating GAPPS it eliminate the problem?
If you need TWRP for this device then request here

Download the app and follow the procedure.
I have a question. Not related to this thread but it is for J120F.
The thing is J120F doesn't support VoLTE and J120G does support that. The processor is same and ram. So can i flash J120G rom in J120F via Odin ?
Would it affect anything as far as hardware is concerned both are same.
Can anyone point me to a thread to remove the verizon crap from this phone and reflash it to possibly att???

"No service" error after trying to update!

Okay so I just tried updating manually to Pie using the zip file from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-5z/how-to/zs620kl-fota-update-links-update-20-08-t3831794
Here's where the problem starts. I placed the zip file into my internal storage and rebooted. Sure enough, I got the update message but when I clicked it, it said: "System update failed".
From this point onwards, my phone shows "no service" even when it is able to detect the SIM card. I've put the SIM card in another phone, and it works without any problems. I find this weird because if the update failed, why did it affect the network connectivity?
I tried the following, to no avail:
turning on and back off airplane mode
factory reset
in mobile network settings, I tried manually selecting the network. When I try, it says "No networks found"
dialling *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone information -> "Mobile Radio Power" -> I tried to switch this on but whenever I leave the screen, it goes back off automatically
IMEI number exists. No problems here.
So I used a suggestion from the comments and wiped data and cache from FOTA Service and System Updater, and tried the update. It worked. I'm now on Android 9, still with "no service" error.
I've been trying suggestions all day and it's leading me nowhere. Really frustrating. I'd be thankful if someone can offer some helpful suggestions.
EDIT: It turned out to be a hardware issue. What are the odds? Maybe the software update caused it, idk. Repair guy said something was loose inside, he fixed it within 10 mins. If you guys face the same problem, get it checked with your local Asus authorized service center. Warranty covers everything.
Download the update for asus's website it's about 1.65gb. it would work
You mean the latest Pie update? On the website, it's for Taiwan SKU only. It won't work.

Yes, I was able to upgrade to the Android 9 ROM. That's not the problem. My problem is having no network connectivity whatsoever. As I said, "no service". Persists even after downgrade. I think it might be a hardware issue.

Please read everything properly. Please. The link I shared has two guides separately- one for rooting and one for downgrading. You can downgrade without rooting. Also, the link you provided is strictly upgrading only. Stop wasting everyone's time.
Hi...
I had the same issue 2 times!
First one was after an update, my phone restarted, then "no service" after that! I tried to downgrade, tried to reset it, and no service...
So i sent my phone to Asus authorized service center, they changed the SUB PBA...
I works for exact 30 days and, after a restart becouse the system crashed, it has no network again1
so i sent it to serce center again today...
I updated to Pie on 28-Jan it was stable for 4 days on 3rd feb. It is showing 'no service' i reset the phone but no use. Any please help......

If you've exhausted all your options software-wise, then it's probably a hardware issue. Check it out with an Asus service centre.
Hello everyone! I figured out the issue and the solution to the dreaded no network/no SIM card issue for the ZenFone 5Z. It is not a software problem. It is a hardware problem indeed. The new firmware basically lets the SIM card slot "work properly". If the SIM slot of your phone is defective, this issue will trigger after Pie update.
Why it is happening:
Take a look at the image below (courtesy FCCID.io)
There is a switch (highlighted in red) which "tells" the phone whether a SIM is inserted. When the switch is closed, it means no SIM card is installed. When the switch is opened, it means SIM card is installed. If you insert the SIM tray, it will allow one of the metal to lose contact with the other hence telling the phone to operate SIM signals.
If the top metal cover is pushed down and touches the switch, this SIM enable signal will malfunction causing the issue you all are facing.
Another close up photo (courtesy: FCCID.io)
The solution:
You will need: A SIM ejector tool for removal of the SIM tray, a flashlight and a precision knife (I used a surgical knife since it is thin and rigid and works perfect).
Turn on the flashlight and look at the SIM slot from the side. You will be able to see the switch terminals I am talking about from a different angle. It will be the farthest terminals just a little bit to the left from the mid point. Insert the knife and tilt it very gently keeping your hands steady such that the top metal lifts slightly from the switch contacts. If careful, you will hear a click. Insert SIM and install SIM tray. Cross your fingers and behold! You will get network. I am fairly certain this is going to solve your issue. So if your phone is out of warranty or you don't want to avail warranty for such a silly issue, give this a shot and post whether it worked for you.
You can also check the teardown of the phone at FCCID.io. Key in the FCC ID of ZenFone 5Z - MSQZ01RD.
