After updating to the latest nightly I have discovered a serious drop in my phones battery performance. Not only does it seem to drain much, much faster but even while charging it still drains the battery. Turning wifi off, screen bright brightness down or even setting my phone to 2G nothing seems to stop it draining. Anyone else getting anything similar?

I've got the latest nightly, my first CM10 ROM. I've noticed a quicker battery drain. ie. about 50% in 4-5 hours, with mild use, ie. phone call, some play store downloads and browsing, and full brightness on the screen. It's certainly not as good as ARHD but its not that bad. I'm putting my faith in the wonderfull devs of CM to resolve this soon. Its not a massive issue for me, and hope it gets sorted in the near future.
I'm using the kernel which comes with the ROM which I'm assuming is stock.
Does yours drain even while charging? It's not that irritating no, just an inconvenience really.

no drain while charging. I'm sure battery life will improve as the ROM does.

I was using stock Sense for a short period of time but it seems to me that cm10 takes more battery. And I am using JuiceDefender.
I think that is because I am on Vodafone and having troubles with the network in my home area.
I want to upgrade cm10 and my radio.

Is it causing significant battery drain? If not, I wouldn't worry about it. When I was running OMGB, I had the same thing. No significant change in my battery drain.

no, my battery seems to last a good while. im not used to it being that high. ive tried tweeking settings but nothing seems to make it budge. Thanks for the response.
Cell standby is pretty much the cellular radio. If you're not noticing any significant battery drain, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Are you stock? Running any ROMs?
Incidentally, I just checked mine, and I'm running rmk's GingerSense. I've hardly done anything with my phone so far this morning, and cell standby was at 29% for me.

CM7; Tiamat 1.0.4. Nightly 31.
You could try a different ROM, but honestly, it's not worth it. Like I said, I was seeing similar when I was running OMGB (AOSP-based). No significant difference in battery life though either. Probably nothing to worry about.
Try toggling airplane mode. Worked on my old phone that always hung around 50% if I didn't do that after every reboot

its a known issue with cm7 and aosp roms. well, not really an issue, just something you see but battery life isnt affected. just ignore it.

That's interesting. I don't have any time without signal on CM7, nightly 37

You are thinking of time without signal. I do not believe he is referring to that.
But 49% doesn't really mean anything. It just means your phone hasn't been used much and therefore nothing else is using much battery. If your battery only goes down 5% overnight, then standby has only actually used 2.5% of your phone's battery, which is completely normal. If you tap on standby, and your time without signal is high, then you have an issue, but with this phone I highly doubt it will be.

I just installed ICS a couple days ago and have noticed a dramatic decrease in battery life. I was able to get a full day without charging on Gingerbread, ~15+hrs or so. Now on ICS I am maybe only getting half a day. After 5-6hrs, the phone is about ready to die with any use. I was hoping it would get better after a few days but it doesn't look like it.
I have attached a screenshot of my usage this morning. I talked on the phone for about 5-10mins, and played some games for maybe 10 mins or so, sent a few e-mails, and did some light browsing. All pretty normal use for me. Before I would still be at 80+% still, down into the 50's right now.
Whats gpsd and why is it using so much?
The gpsd is a GPS like service on your phone. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Also, Did you calibrate your battery? That might help

Turn off gps until you really need to use it. It's a bug that keeps gps actively searching for a signal and that will drain your battery quick, as well as make your phone super hot.

Thanks guys, my phone has been super hot! I turned GPS off, we'll see what happens....
How do I calibrate my battery?
There's no need to calibrate your battery, I did notice yesterday that GPS was on even after I turned it off, but that was after using Google Tracker for a jog. I simply restarted my phone and it was fixed, lets not forget that this is still in early development. Although I will say that now on my third day with this rom, the battery is getting better by the day! Good luck and Happy Flashing.

Yep keep your GPS off and your battery will improve dramatically. When it works, it's a major battery drainer. We'll need to wait for a build further down the road for a fix.
The answer to your question essentially is, you don't. This phone has an auto-calibrating fuel gauge that makes previous methods of battery calibration (wiping battery stats or using the battery calibration app) useless.
For the one "possible" way to calibrate the battery on this phone, see this ...

But I don't think this is you issue. Turn off GPS for now and you'll be good to go.

Agreed. Turning off GPS helped out with battery life dramatically on my phone. (FB17)
All of these ics roms are alpha or beta there is no finished product so battery life will not be optimized ....some may get better but if you need battery life better to go back to a stable ROM .... GB

how long have you had the ROM flashed? it may take couple of days to have it settled into the new system/software. give it couple of days with the same cycle of usuage/charging times.

I had the same problem but after a quick reboot it stopped, and even with the gps off the 3G/4G will still show location just no navigation.
Hell no BS i get 4 MAXXXXX hours with the fb17
On CM9 3.1 with Steady's FB15 Kernel and the FB15 modem I get about 1/3 to 1/2 of my previous battery life. The estimated mAh draw is also in that neighborhood.
From what I can tell it's mostly low level stuff that is causing the drain, stuff in the kernel and Trebuchet launcher. Exactly what I expect from early, un-optimized code. With time I fully expect that I will my old battery life if not better as developers get the time to work the bugs out.
I can't discount that some of my apps are partially incompatible with ICS and causing wonkiness as well. It also doesn't help that I enjoy ICS so much that I can't stop playing with it.
I switched to jellybean (android 4.1) recently. The system is great. However it drains the battery much more than cm7. During a night the battery can reduce from 80 to 60. Is it normal? If not is there solution to extend battery usage?
Unfortunately, that is normal. Turning the fire off can save the battery, but I just charge it everyday. Compared to rooted stock, battery usage increases between 10 and 20 percent for me under normal use.

According to Better battery stats, most of the drain on my Kindle is caused by AudioOut2 wakelock. I failed to resolve the issue and i'm not sure what is causing it. I would like to know if anyone else experienced similar issues.
IMHO, it must be sort of a bug since JB is fairly new and devs need time to resolve all the issues.

I don't seem to seem that terrible of battery life with mine. I'm running twa_priv's cm10 and during the night it might go down about 7-10 percent. I do have Wi-Fi off while in sleep which helps.

That's not normal for a standby... it should be <5% ...not the mention that device does not have to communicate with 2G/3G networks (unlike smartphones), and on my smartphone i get average of about 3days (medium usage, light on wifi) without recharging
It's a bug - some process prevents device to go to sleep (aka. wakelock) which causes drain. I expected at least 2-3 days on a single battery charge, and tbh, recharging it daily is little bit disappointing Something tells me it's a kernel bug since i encountered it on every CM10 rom so far :S

Well coming from an previous ICS build it's a major improvement. Typically the battery life from ICS builds(That I used, Energyrom, AOKP Kindle Edition, GedeRom) would drain 20-30% nightly like the OP said, so coming from there it seems like JB fixed whatever was killing the battery. I can probably go a week with light usage on my kindle before I recharge it. ICS in general drains the battery on any device. I used to get 5 days on my Droid 1 running CM7. With ICS I'll go through 3, though I never want to go back to Gingerbread, hahahaha.

My record for battery on a smartphone is 6 days... using ICS
Anything that drains battery more than 1% in 1.5/2 hours in standby is bad, no matter what OS version...
I also have the impression that on a fully working Jellybean ROM, battery usage is more intense than on a stock ROM. I still prefer the advantages of the new ROM, and also charge daily. Being mobile, I use the XTPower MP-10000 Powerbank, which gives more than enough battery life and charges the kindle while in use to 100% full. This has resolved the issue of battery drainage for me.
I'm hoping to get some help on this. I have a T-mo Galaxy s3 and I'm currently running the latest AOKP Milestone 1 rom, which by the way is incredible. I do not use my phone much at all, I send texts, surf the net every once in awhile and that's about it. The battery seems to be draining very fast which I would understand if I was using it a lot. I took it off the charger this morning around 5:30 a.m. 100% charged, and its now at 87% at 7:30. I really haven't used it for anything, so it's basically been on standby. Is that normal battery drainage? I'm just wondering if there is some setting, turning something off, etc that I'm missing to help with this. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
The battery life on JB roms has been less than ICS. Its known and dev's are working on it.
You would need to check a few things and your not going to get a yes or no answer. Post your screen on time as well as whats causing your battery drain.
Is it going into Deep Sleep? check with CPUspy
What are your data/wifi settings? Leaving these on when not needed or in bad reception areas causes increased drain as the phone looks for service.
I don't know what is causing this issue in my Samsung Galaxy Nexus, it's a kernel problem? Any ideas? Suggestions? How to extend a bit more my battery since it drains in 2 or 3 hours as maximum (see the attached images for more info)
Is your device supposed to be idle during this period of time? If so, then perhaps you have the USB port issue, which one of it's symptoms could be phantom charging. Phantom charging basically means that the device thinks it is charging which turns the screen on and also keeps the device awake.

same issue
I have the same issue. I was on the stable release and the battery drain was terrible. I went from all day battery life to about 6 hours or so. I updated to the nightly builds hoping it would fix it. Still terrible battery life. I have pretty idle usage too. Any ideas?
I was having issues with the battery life on nightlies until the snapshot hit at the end of last month. Then it drastically jumped to better battery life for me. It's been much better since then on the nightlies.
I do have a battery-chugging app (pedometer), but even with that, the battery life went dramatically up after the snapshot.
magical fix
Gave it a full charge and updated and the issue is gone. got great battery life the other day.
