Two questions... - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

My phone does not alert me if I walk away from my S Pen even though I have that option checked, does this not work yet? Also when I use to pull my pen out I would get an icon in the upper left telling me the pen was out.... I no longer get that icon when I take my pen out. Anyone know why?

Same here. I wonder if it has to do with a custom launcher cause im not rooted and the only mod ive made is installed Apex launcher.

Just tested, mine doesnt seem to alert me either

Forgot to add im not rooted. The thing bothering me the most is not getting the Pen icon in my notification bar anymore. I feel like I may forget to put my pen baxk.

I'm rooted, running Frosty JB rom, and Nova prime launcher. I still get the notification that the pen is out and still get alerted if I walk away without the pen attached.
If the phone isn't realizing that the pen has been detached in the first place, why would it alert you that you've walked away from it?
Tried rebooting?

Its crazy it seems hit or miss I've never received the alert and I walked away 30 feet for minutes

You need to have the screen locked AND off. So far it's been 100% when those requirements are set for me. It won't go off a second time if you didn't put the pen back into the silo though unless you unlock the screen after the first warning and you are not within 2 ft of your pen.

+1. Make sure the screen is locked and off. From my understanding, it's an accelerometer deal. Leave your pen somewhere, walk away with it in hand and sway your arms a bit or shake your hand. I went about 30-40 feet and then it went off.
As for the S Pen icon...make sure you have Page Buddy on an S Pen Page check marked also. I'm rooted running Frosty JB and Apex Launcher instead of Touchwiz. I get the notification that it's detached, but the S Pen Page doesn't show up as it's a Touchwiz thing.

The phone does recognize the pen has been detached. When I slide the pen out, the phone beeps and opens up the pen note pad.

[Q] No Dialpad, Contacts or Messaging

Hi, I'm Kitty. I love technology but it hates me and to be honest any fix past turning it off and on is a little out of my skill range.
I have the Samsung Epic through Sprint, it is less than three months old. I got up this morning and my buttons for the dialpad, contacts, and messaging were gone. I can't seem to get the dialpad to come up from using the numbers on the slide out keyboard, and I tried restarting it. I have handcent sms, so I can receive and send texts that way, and I can call if I tap on the call button through handcent, but I can't get back to the dialpad.
I saw one post like this but it was for a different phone and had no responses. If I missed a post, I am sorry. I'm a noob and unworthy of the help of you technology gods, but if you just give me some fire I will leave Mt. Olympus. (yes I know he stole it, fire wasn't really given)
I have to call and pay our bills today so it would be awesome if someone knew how to fix my phone without completely resetting it.

Are you completely stock and not rooted? And do you sync with google?
I don't know exactly what rooting is, so I'm going to go with no. I didn't modify the phone past downloading a few apps, but nothing recently or anything that I think would use this.
When I say I love technology, I love technology like a muggle loves magic. I think it is wonderful but I don't understand it.
Also I have the lookout app but I don't think I sync with Google. How would I go about doing that? Sorry I'm so dumb with technology.
Go into Settings. Then Accounts & Sync. Then add a new account.

Oh, I am synced to my gmail account.
Has this (the phone not working as a phone) happened to anyone else or do I just have a knack for destroying technology?

I have tried to make mine go away or blank out not sure what happened. you might be able to do reset but you would lose your apps and would have to reinstall.
Edit:
Have you tried doing a battery pull and turn it back on? Or have you installed a dialer app?
been on xda since early 2000's, and this is somehow my first post! i guess i followed the rules, and searched, and read and read and reread correctly lol! what's up my epic community, kittikat, & kennyglass123!
are you saying the icons are gone from the bottom dock, or completely gone from the dock and your applications list also? if they are gone from both (which is unlikely), then you'll need to factory reset your phone to get them back. if they are in your applications list (they should be), click applications icon, push the menu button (very left button on bottom of phone that looks like an equal sign inside a half square), click edit, then you can hold down on the phone, contact, or the messaging icon (or any icon), and drag onto the bottom dock. the bottom dock should hold up to 4 icons. the icons can be removed from the dock on accident, or by themselves from time to time (don't know why this happens).
you can also just hold down on whatever app icon you want in your applications list, and place onto whatever homescreen you want, but not practical for the icons you need (which you're going to use all the time).
i also use handcent and don't use the built in messaging app. handcent has a widget you can put on any homescreen, which will tell you how many new texts you have, and can eliminate using the main messaging app. hope this helps!

Ok so I found the phone, contacts and messaging after searching through apps and restarting my phone (they weren't there pre-restarting) Taking the battery out and in didn't seem to do anything.
How do you drag the phone back down to the main dock? I tried following your instructions but got lost. I will be back in a few hours (I have to go to work) and I will try again.
The most recent thing I downloaded was random lolcats a few weeks ago (lame, yes, I know)
And thanks for being patient and helpful everyone
no problem, it happened to me, my sister, and a few other friends with epics also. could have sworn i used to have 4 icons on the dock, and then one day after updating to gingerbread there were only 3. thought i was tripping lol. ok here are the steps again.
1) while your application list is showing, press the menu button (the very left capacitive button of the bottom 4 buttons that light up, below the Samsung logo)
2) choose edit (all your icons should show a minus sign on the top right corners of each icon if done correctly)
3) click and hold down on the phone icon until it starts following your finger, then drag down to bottom dock.
4) viola! profit!!!

Satechi BT MediaRemote Bluetooth

I have been wishing for a remote to control my phone while it is tucked away in my console and connected to my stereo. I know there are head units that have this built in but my system is factory and I am not looking to replace it. So in searching I ran across this product and ordered it today. It is mainly for Apple but reports say it works on many android devices, though I didn't find the GS2 meantioned specifically. Once I get it in and test it out I will report back my findings in case anyone else is interested.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00824948U/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01
Interested!
Ok it finally showed up today. It took a lot longer than I expected to get here but it was well worth the wait. All I can say is wow. This thing is fantastic. Works better than I exprected.
The remote is small and light. Would prefer a more solid feel to it but it is great for what it is. It has a dedicated on and off button. It paired to my phone in about 10 seconds, didn't even pull the instructions out . I put my phone inside my desk drawer to test. It is a solid wooden contruction. Pushing play starts your default music player automatically. I could play, pause, previous track, next track, volume up, volume down and mute. The camera button also works. You can open the camera app and take pictures with the remote. While you aren't listening to music the volume buttons control the ringer volume. And if you press and hold the play button it will launch svoice (if installed). So while my phone is in the car I can open pandora, play music or whatever without touching the phone. It has a keyboard button which doesn't seem to do anything, on this phone at least. It also has a home button which if long pressed opens the task manager. While the phone was in my desk I walked to the kitchen and was still able to use the remote. This is about 15 feet from my desk. After that I walked to the front of the office, which is on the other side of the kitchen at about 25 feet and it still worked.
The only downsides I could find are that it connects as a bluetooth keyboard which causes a slight problem. When it connects it sets the samsung keyboard as default and then the samsung keyboard keeps crashing until you go into settings and make swype or whatever else the default keyboard. After that it works perfectly. This may impact other keyboard apps also. Not sure as I only use swype. To me this is a minor issue as the purpose is to not be using the phone while the remote is connected. Plus there may be a work around like uninstalling the samsung keyboard. The only other issue, also minor, is that the battery cover is extremely hard to get off. Good thing the batteries are supposed to last for months. This, of course, remains to be seen since I just got it.
Even with the minor problems I still give this remote a solid 5 stars as it does exactly what I wanted it to do and exceeded my expectations. Also I am testing this on Team Rejectz FF18 Universe 1.4. I will perform a EL29 test and stock FF18 test at a later point and see if it works the same.

If you find something else let me know please.
OK I tested out EL29 and FF18 stock and here are my findings.
EL29 - Did not work. The only buttons that would work are the volume buttons. None of the other buttons worked. I was using Calks stock deodexed rom. Did not care to test any other roms.
Stock FF18 - Worked even better. It did not have the keyboard crashing that I experienced on Universe 1.4. It still made the Samsung keyboard default but it worked with no errors or force closing. Which makes it much nicer to use. The camera button only controls zoom because the volume rocker does zoom by defualt. Replace the camera app with a modded one that takes pictures with the volume rocker and problem solved. You don't have the ability to control apps by voice since svoice isn't installed. May be able to work around this but haven't tried anything else. Also the keyboard does not switch back to your default after disconnecting the remote. It stays on the Samsung Keyboard and you have to manually switch it.
Fixes: Ok I pulled the camera app from Universe and put it on the stock Deodexed rom to fix the camera issue. I installed SVoice from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668824&highlight=svoice and now I can access that from the remote by long pressing play/pause. Now if I can figure out how to get the S3 Samsung Keyboard on the S2 I will be set.
Note: You can't pair multiple devices at the same time. It is one at a time. If you change the pairing to device 2 you have to delete it on device1 and repair it again if you want to use it again on device1.

I have one of those keyboards. It works pretty well and $10 is a good price (I think mine was $28 at Best Buy). I haven't tried using it as a remote however, so I can't comment on that functionality.
Well I finally got it today and it worked as a keyboard for about 5 minutes till I got curious and pressed the ime button now it just does shortcuts no keyboard, but as a remote this thing is perfect especially for 10$, it has the very occasional lag when changing modes it will alive freeze up, but it's only happened once so far and I haven't been able to repeat it. The software included is useless though.

You're right. It works now! Thank you. I was thinking my S Pen is faulty!
Damn my still not working
I believe then phone has to be moving "as if you we're walking" ie moving up and down or back and forth - if you walk away holding the phone level I don't think it knows you left the pen accidentally. Try putting the phone in your pocket and walking away - the swinging motion should activate the alarm - I've not got the phone yet so can't test t fr you but some sites gave said they've managed to get out to their car in the car park before the alarm sounded!
Can some answer me please which apk responding for S Pen keeper motion?
I'm all the time deleting manually apk's from the system I don't use. Maybe by mistake Im deleting that apk. Because S Pen Keeper not working on my phone at all (when is activated)
Regards.

I don't remember how I held it, but I was at work, was driving away from work and the alert went off while it was in my pocket.
I was still driving at the time. Not sure what triggered it.

It wasn't working for me, then I realized that I have to walk 8-10 feet away from s pen to make this notification work. Plus if it notify once and you still keep on moving, it won't notify again.

The phone is also checking for the light and proximity sensors, trying to guess if it's in a pocket.
How it recognizes that you left the pen and not holding it in your hand while walking , does it use bluetooth /nfc to detect the pen location?
Sent from my GT-P7500 using xda app-developers app
The pop up notification that come up on first time activation of S Pen Keeper says that the alarm can also be triggered with the walking sound of any other person and not just you (the person holding the phone).
So I think it is somewhat related to walking sound.
It tries to detect 10 steps using the gyros. I thought it was not working but walk in a circle for a bit and it should buzz and pop up a notification.

Screen off and on without using power button !

hi all
first time poster long time reader
I am so tired of trying **** apps.
Could somebody please tell me what app works with the nexus four to allow me to touch the screen somehow to see a text message etc when it arrives??
for the first time ever I am missing the button in my iPhone that let's me hit it to see what is going on at a glance.
I just want a way to toggle the screen on without hitting the power button on the Nexus 4
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
The only way to do this is to leave the screen on, which would drain the battery. There's probably an app that would turn the screen off (or dim it), but this would keep your phone awake and drain the battery.
Someone feel free to chime in and correct me if there is such an app.

For the Gnex there's an app called “PGM", I emailed the developer if he had intention to update the app so it works with the Nexus⁴, but sadly he doesn't have the phone yet.

Just wait for PGM to be updated for Nexus 4 support, OP; I can vouch for its greatness. You can enable double tap or slide to unlock gesture to turn the screen on. Once you get used to this, you seriously forget you have a power button.

It appears to work, but needs some calibration. I'm only able to get it working 30% of the time (if even).

works on my Galaxy Nexus running 4.2.1
I'm waiting on a kernel that has Sweep2Wake...that would be awesome with this phone.
Wow I cannot believe the responses I got...

I settled on the Smart Screen On.
Works about 75% of the time...I can live with that till something better comes along.
I don't really understand why you cannot make text msgs received light the screen up like it does on an iphone. It was so convenient to just glance at the phone and see it was work texting yet again and mutter under my breath for them to piss off and then go back to playing Xbox without ever having to touch the phone.

Try Light flow for that... I think you can set a custom LED color and the screen to come on with certain notifications.
Yeah I've got Light Flow. You can set the LED colour and the screen to come on with some notifications. There is a 'lite' version which should cover the basics. But if you dont use the stock messenger or use things like Whatapp, you need the paid for version.
I use it and it has great customisation BUT at the moment I can't get it to work 100% of the time. So be warned!
It will be great though once they update it for 4.2.

I had PGM on my GN and it works very well, the developer is planning on getting an N4 the last I heard.
I'm currently looking into getting the phone to wake using the volume rocker -- I'm reading that it's inside android.policy.jar and removing two lines that ignore the volume rocker button presses.
Anyone want to give it a go? I'm going to look into it this weekend.

For the Gnex there's an app called “PGM", I emailed the developer if he had intention to update the app so it works with the Nexus⁴, but sadly he doesn't have the phone yet.

I emailed him too! That is one of the best app out there, in terms of the idea behind it. No real battery drain, but still be able to wake your device from sleep. I died a little after getting that email.
Kinda hope someone would do something like that for N4.
You can use Tasker+Secure Settings (pro version) to use the Google Now shortcut to unlock/lock the device, but there is no waking the device.
I too am waiting for pgm! That would be amazing

[Q] spen issues

Hey guys,
I have been having spen issues for a long time now. Stock, rooted, or different roms dont change it. When the spen is docked the screen is like super sensative around the spen dock location. Constantly vibrates when using touch screen with fingers. Pops up spen commands while docked. Shows spen is detached when its not. When I take spen out everything is fine. When I put it away and just tap the end of the spen it can trigger spen removal notification. So annoying. Whats my solution? Anyone else have this happen?
Anyone?
maybe?
I had an issue with my pen on my note 2 where the tip was permanently being pressed down, and it made my note go crazy. Maybe there is something in the pen hole that is depressing the tip down when you insert the pen?
Maybe there's a way to go in and adjust the spen settings. I know there was a way to calibrate the s pen on the note 2

I will check out the inside where the pen docks. Not sure thats the issue and I dont think its software related. I might take it down to Best Buy and try a new spen and see if mine is just faulty. Thanks

You need to adjust the potentiometer located under the button, there are videos on youtube.
Still have the same Spen issue.
Hey guys,
Now that the tablet has been put so long, anyone e else had this issue I posted a long time ago? Samsung wants $350 to fix this issue outside warranty. That is ridiculous. So I am stuck with the tablet being super sensitive to touching the side of the tablet where the spen is, while docked, and acting like it's being pulled out. Causing it to always interupt my activities and say Spen detached and pop into Recent Notes. So annoying. About ready to throw this in the trash. Please help.
I think S-pen is faulty since tablet works fine with pen removed. Did you try:
1) Using a different S-pen
2) Reinstalling stock firmware
3) Adjusting S-pen Potentiometer suggested above
4) Check out XDA post: 'Very Sensitive S-pen' by bobotski.

I tried stock firmware, not the rest. I will give those a try. Could it be something internal or more likely the spen?

I suspect that the S-pen is faulty since the tablet works fine without the S-pen.
