Battery and battery charging problems! - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

Hello everyone, I own a Galaxy Gio and since I rooted and installed custom roms on it I started having problems with the battery and with battery charging. It takes about 30 minutes to "fully charge" and then it discharges in about 5 hours. Before rooting I had no problems with the battery and I could go for 2 days with a charge, now I charge is twice a day. Has anyone had this problem before?Do you think that if I go back to stock it will help?thanks in advance!

Sorry for this but no one has ever had this problem before?I need some answers, thank you!

got it to but the best way of fully charging is turning the device of and let it charge when it says 100% taking it out and change for some minutes again (thats the charge bug with some devices ) and you need a rock solid stock rom for good battery cm9/7/10 eats more ram

Haha my charge port not fully function

Samsung Galaxy S i9000 battery problems - Disply

Is it just me or is anyone eles having this problem? When I bought my I9000 its was fine, until I upgraded from Froyo, to gingerbread using Kies, then there was a problem with the Android OS, killing my battery, but then I flashed back to 2.2.1 froyo and the battery problem is gone. Now I have ANOTHER problem that the disply is taking 84%-90% of my battery fully charged from 100% to about 8%. I was shocked, I mean i know its super amoled, but still less than six hours and the battery is basiclly dead. I hardly used it! Maybe like 50+ text and like two or three games of tap tap revenge four.
I have a two year contract with vodafone and I cannot keep charging it like this.
Thanks, PS am a newbie so step by step please!

when you got the phone right away did you let it charge all the way to 100% charge and than let it die all the way? if you do that 2-3 times the battery memory will be a lot longer compared if you don't. otherwise it just sounds like a bad battery
No, it was fine when I got it but then I upgraded and then downgraded it, i might buy a new battery 1500mAh

Please open this!!

Hi, now that i have your attention!
I have cm7.2 democracy on my gio
I barely use it for wifi or gaming now because the battery is S**t.
I had 2.3.6 GB before and battery could take out 2 days on games and music. Now suddenly after switching to cm7.2 i need to charge it twice a day without using any app or game. just some texting like 10, 12.
I use ondemand governor and max freq is 806 min is 245
Also a couple of times i have seen that when my battery is at 30% and charge it then within 5-10 minutes it showed 100% charged. Unplug the charger.
Any suggestions or something on this? I really need an answer guys. Thanks
I can tell you that you can't charge your battery within 10 minutes.
Charge it at least 2 hours, 2.5.

Yeah! I will. Even if it says fully charged. IDK whats the problem with it. It drains so quickly.
Even if i charge it 2 hours even then i have to charge it twice a day.
I have the same problems. Some help?
I am having the same happening with my phone. I am looking into buying a new battery.
My phone goes from 100% to 10% on five min plz help

No one has found a solution 'till now?I'll try to use ODIN and go back to stock version, maybe that will help. Has anyone had those battery problems before using a custom ROM?with stock my battery used to last 2 days with games and music etc, now I can only use it for 5 hours without any games or music or internet. It also charges from 0 to 100% in 30 minutes , maybe less. I'm still hoping someone found a solution for this problem because it is useless to have a phone without any battery.
Try to get a new battery because huge draining problem is not caused by roms it caused by battery damage.my battery runs on stock rom over the 10days without using anything but on cm9/10 roms it drains faster but still runs more than 3days for me.
so no one got it?
Thank God I am not the only one here
But guys, I have been using stock GB for an year. Its been only a week on cm7.2 democracy and nightly.
Both have same battery issues and non of this happened in stock
It's not the battery issue.its something else. I'm sure
Have you tried going back to stock version using ODIN?I think that is the ultimate solution before sending my phone to service(I still have warranty).

Try to "recalibrate" your battery; in cwm theres an option "wipe battery stats". some say its nonsense, some say it really helps; i would give it a try.
No idea if theres an option with stock roms, though.....
I'm calibrating now...Will post the result in a while. (Tomorrow i guess)
I still couldn't solve this..I flashed the stock firmware with ODIN and still no luck, I'm starting to think it is a hardware problem, maybe I will send the phone to service now that I have the stock firmware back. Has anyone found any solution?
Hey, i found this article
For the users who like to try out new ROMs very often or by default Android receives updates to Android very often. These updates re constantly pushed to the users to provide the better experience to the users. For those who flash their mobile handset with custom ROM they are advised to charge their handset to 100 % battery life and then proceed with the upgrade processor. That is advised because if you have 50 % of battery life and proceed with firmware update, the new custom ROM will consider 50 % battery life as the full battery stats and this will provide half the battery life then earlier as specified by your phone manufacturer. In those cases you need to go with the battery calibration to gain 100 % battery backup as specified by your provider. There is complete procedure on how you will calibrate your phone battery is mentioned by us and if you would like to make the process very much easier then you can make use of a specially designed application which calibrates your battery. (Battery Calibration)
Okay so i flashed a new custom rom with 100% battery but no luck on battery issue. Its still draining the same.
then i calibrated my battery with this app with my battery at 100% which of course is 50% as said by this article, the app said "Your battery has been calibrated by 6%". Don't know what that means.
ANY HELP? DEVELOPERS PLEASE GUYS!
Try to calibrate it too.It may fix it.

Problem solved :fingers-crossed:
I am getting the problem of battery drain only in cm7.2 democracy. On stock battery lasts for 2.5 days but on democracy only 1 day. What is the problem?? I dont wana leave this ROM its so nice. Can any body help me out.
I already calibrated my battery but no solution....

I have the same issue, I am using CM10.1 RC0 by Olddroid but I think my problem is the charger. For the last month I charged my Gio using the usb connection from PC. Now, if I use the charger the battery drains faster than charging with the usb connection method. I am gonna buy a 1500 mAh battery and hope to solve this problem.

[Q] Why my battery has broken?

My old battery has broken, it has swallen and it lasted only 10 minutes
I bought a new one and everything is fine now.
My question is why it has broken? because i kept the phone in charge all night(a lot of nights)? or because i flashed too much roms?
Is bad to keep the smartphone in charge all night?

Yes it's..
charging in a lot of time will make the battery over power..
and it will lose the Ampere power. I've experienced in my laptop's battery..
flashing too much ROMs is not the problem.. i guess..

100% agreed: flashing too much ROMs has nothing to do with battery.
unless you flash a ROM which was not meant for your device
Battery
Flashing should do nothing.
Overcharging was possible, lets say, till 5 years ago. Actual Notebooks and Mobiles (as the 5660) should automatically discharge when full till 98 % or so, at least not overcharged.
I suspect a defect from factory in your case. Maybe damaged when dropped to the floor.

K

Is charging the battery constantly bad?

Hey everyone.
Just wanted to know if charging the tablet almost constantly is a bad thing. I use the tablet a lot every day, so when I'm at 60%, for example, I charge it again while I'm at lunch or doing something else, so that I can keep using the tablet later with full charge available again. I never let my tablet go down to 5%.
Is this bad for the battery in the long run?
Thanks.
Generally, it's best to not allow full cycle recharging...i.e. not fully charge or discharge, it's better for small charge cycles, like 40%<->90%

That's right. At least for what I know. It says the same on Apple's website about batteries. :good:
So then I guess I'm doing it right, correct?
I charge from 60% to 100% or from 50% to 100% again. Maybe I should do it only up to 90% then.

I only charge to 100% when I am going to be away from a charger for a long time, otherwise I stop at 90%-ish (my battery app announces when it is at 90% and there are kernels which will stop the charge at what you specify), as the links above state, charging to 100% all the time will shorten the lifetime of your battery, this may or may not matter to someone, for example, if you buy a new tablet every year, or you're well-off financially, then you're probably not too concerned with how many years your battery lasts, in which case charging to 100% a lot won't really matter much, since you'll likely own a newer tablet by time the battery does die.
In short, it's up to you and what you want to get out of your battery's lifetime.
I am using the good old 100% and then use until near 0%. I have found that this way the battery lasts longer.
As I am writing i have 43% battery with 5:40h screen time. I am using Greenify btw.

There are two kinds of battery life. These recommendations are for battery longevity. How long until the battery begins to lose the ability to fully charge.
The article at battery university explains how charging works, and the best way to charge batteries. What you are doing is the opposite of that way. If you think you are going to have your tablet longer than a year, it's worth taking the time to read the articles linked.
There is noting particularly wrong with full charges every time, but there are 'righter' ways to charge.

Is there any kind of battery forming on new nexus7?
I mean i bought nexus 7 and straight from box i rooted, unlocked and installed custom kernel which forbids battery 2 fully charge over 92%...
Should i revert to stock and firstly fully charge my tablet then go to custom kernel or i am good at it right now ? Tnx
ps. (my nexus 7 was on 38% when i put it out of box)

Based on what I've read, you'd gain no benefit by reverting to stock and charging to 100%, it MAY or may not effect the internal battery calibration, but it does not affect the lifetime or anything.
Also, these kernels usually have a way for you to change the % at which it stops, usually by cat'ing or changing some value that the kernel reads, you could just cat/echo/change 92% to 100%, and let it charge to 100%, then change it back. YMMV.

The worst thing you can do to lithium-ion batteries is let them discharge completely.
Not letting the lithium-ion batteries discharge more than 10% will increase the cycles by thousands we're talking going from 350 cycles to 4000.
So, ideally, you want to charge your batteries (of this type) after a 10% discharge but we all know that's impossible so the best thing you can do is to charge your tablet everytime you can. Even if it has much battery left.
I knew that allready but i didn't know that it is not good to charge battery to 100 till i came to nexus 7 forums I always charged all my devices to 100% and never had a problem with battery

You should charge to 100%, there is no problem with that.
On a perfect world you would want to charge everytime the battery hit 90%, this gives the best amount of charge cycles and life time.
However we all know that's not going to happen because the tablet is here to serve our needs and not the other way around so stick to charging it whenever you can.
Great Question!
First let me start off by saying to the person that started this thread that this was a really good question to ask!
Now if you are trying to get the most out of your battery then you could look into installing/flashing a custom kernel that could allow for undervolting which could in theory give your battery more life.
So you all are saying that the best thing to do is to charge up to 90% and never let it get down to less than 10%? Always start charging when the battery gets to like 40%?
One question i have for the Nexus 7 2013. Is it even possible to remove the battery for this tablet or does it void the warranty? Second has anyone purchased a spare battery (if possible) for their Nexus 7 2013? If you did could you post a link to where you got it and let us know how much you paid?...

There has been speculation in the franco thread that undervolting could actually hurt battery charge life, due to the CPU having to work harder due to having less voltage, not sure if that has any merit or not.
The reasoning behind the not charging above 90%, and not allowing full-cycle charges is outlined much better in the links I posted than I could do here, also I would be just regurgitating information that is already there for the most part.
40% is just a number I pulled out of air, the best practice is to keep the charge delta as small as possible. So, let's say we charge the device to 90%, it is better to charge it when it hits 80% than it is to wait till it hits 70%, because a smaller charge delta has occurred, so charge often, but if you want the lifetime of your battery to be maximized (lifetime as in the way ezas explained it, i.e. "(...)battery longevity. How long until the battery begins to lose the ability to fully charge"), than try to not charge it to 100%.
Also, it has to be said, heat also affects the battery longevity, that is why I also recommend not charging while a device is in its case. And not leaving it sit on a Qi charger for too long, some cause more heat than others, but heat is a battery's enemy.

It would no doubt void your warranty. As for battery replacements, I have not yet found one, I'm not saying there isn't one to be found, but I have yet to find it, I figure the reason is because they are not yet in demand since the tablet is relatively new and demands for replacement batteries would be too low, obviously and eventually this will change.

What I said was that, theorically, in a perfect world, you want to charge your tablet when it starts losing charge and ideally never let it get below 90%. This is almost impossible because we use our tablet and we don't want to constantly be charging it so ideally you want to charge it whenever you can.

Can we let pluging all the night .. ?

Good morning to you
I would like to know if we can let our OP3 in charge all the night ?
Battery's performance will not decrease ? Don't affect it ?
Thank you in advance for your answers
i have done it with my OnePlus One for over a year and no issues, i have on this phone and no issues, it has the ability to control the charging so it does not cause issues, some will say every once in awhile let it drain down to atleast 15% every once in awhile and charge full
I knew that it can control itself his charge , but I'm on RR Rom .. dash charge not compatible , so its okay also ?
No problem. Charge it whenever you like for however you like. Don't listen to those that say otherwise. They probably live with myths of 10 years ago

yes, i have been on a custom kernel, so no dash for me either, it does still trickle charge once it hits around 90%, dash was just there to increase charging not to control it, u will be ok
I've always plugged all my phones over night. Samsung S3 > Moto G > Nexus 5 > Oneplus 2. But since I bought OP3 it has changed my charging rituals. I just put it on when required for 30 - 40 mins and it reaches 70 to 80 %.
But yeah since youre on an custom rom overnight charging would be the normal routine. It doesnt harm the battery or anything. Thats one thing thats stopping me to try RR. Once the Dash Charge appears in other roms i will shift and experiment.
