OK so all of a sudden my Netflix app starts giving me a error code when I go to play a movie ( unable to start video playback error 13009) well after touring the web wih help of Google of course, I formed the opinion the Netflix's last update was the issue as others were having the same problem and they claimed it was happening since the last update on theirs as well. Remembering that when I had the Vibrant with T-Mobile I also had the same issue when I went with a aosp build as it would not play Avatar. Well with the Vibrant it would play with aosp but when I went and changed to a certain kernel build it would give me a error stating that it could not play Drm protected content. I learned that certain kernel builds on that device lacked some line of Code or something that caused it to lose the ability to play said content and with the tigers blood kernels it could still play the movie ( can't remember the kernel that could not). Well taking that experience I decided to get boot loader off the market and load a few different Roms and ty them out, plus I wanted to try kush's ICS while still having my daily driver easily accessable. Well here is what I found out, Netflix plays flawlessly on Sense roms but is unusable on aosp builds, same exact version of Netflix cause its from my TB and I restored it from there on all builds. I have tried out multiple kernels with the hope that, like the Vibrant, I would find one that Netflix will still play on. But alas, to no avail my attempts were futile because I had no luck in my quest to achieve video playback from NF on a aosp build, only Sense based roms. I do believe however that before the last update NF did in fact work on aosp's and that somehow the developers at NF changed something within the Rom that will cause failure in video playback and generation of said error code 13009. I did notice that Google video also queries the Rom and if its rooted will not allow video rental through the service stating that the phone appears to be rooted and therefore use of the service is disabled. I would like to see if anyone has any ideas and if we can find out what the service looks for and if there's a way to defeat this so movie watching on aosp's is once again possible..

Has anyone tested if the Gnex with ICS now supports AVRCP 1.3+ when connecting it via Bluetooth to their car stereo?
1.3/1.4 should support displaying Track info when playing music via Bluetooth. I have a 2010 Mazda which should support it, but I wanted to see if others had tried this?
If it does have support I would think Google Music would support it, but hopefully it extends system wide for things like Spotify?
It did not work in Gingerbread, but I had hoped to see it in ICS.
Here is a thread from earlier:

I believe Android is using the BlueZ Bluetooth stack which appears to support AVRCP 1.3:
http://www.bluez.org/profiles/
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.bluez.kernel/15551/match=avrcp
My 2010 Mazda would be much better if the display didn't just say "BT" but rather the track title
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
same with my 11 explorer. it just says galaxy nexus where the title goes
My BMW with connecteddrive shows "No track info" , so i'm guessing it's not working
No. ICS has no AVRCP 1.3+ support. At least for now.
I read somewhere that there will be changes made to bluetooth with 4.0.3.
Maybe Google finally woke up and implemented the latest bluez.
Seems like we have to wait....
Would be awesome if it did. Loved my HP Veer because it did. Also tired of seeing just BT on my radio
I can add to all of this with a few personal experiences. Back and forward work, however, music info doesn't work on the following that I have tested:
BMW ConnectedDrive system (someone confirmed that above)
Ford Sync system
Acura system
Let's hope that 4.0.3 incorporates this.
Has anyone tried one of the .3 custom roms to see if anything has changed?
Same issue on 2011 Nissan Maxima, track and artist info is blank.

Unfortunately I am quite confident that our 2010 Mazdas do not support avrcp 1.3, only 1.0.
Also it has far less to do with the OS than having to do with the bluetooth drivers/stack. My neighbor's droid x sends metadata to his 2011 mits. lancer, but when we tried it on my 2010 mazda3 we saw nothing but "bt audio". The 2011+ on the other hand supposedly do support avrcp 1.3.
While hearing that bluez has finally implemented avrcp support in their nearly ubiquitous bt stack, it unfortunately does not mean that we will be seeing meta data...
One interesting thing to note is that while the 2010s support avrcp 1.0 and the 2011s support avrcp 1.3/1.4 the bluetooth module is a slightly different part number, they are interchangeable (according to my dealer).
Unfortunately the Galaxy Nexus (with FW 4.0.1) has AVRCP 1.0 which means no ID3 tag info, no repeat/shuffle/scan, just basic controls (play/pause/skip).
Let's hope that with the new FW there will be some changes in the BT stack.
As far as I can see it doesn't have the Message Access Profile either. My S2 got my text messages to my sync system, no luck with the Nexus.
Any more word on this? Bought a nice new stereo for my car and would love to see some track information

T_T I have a 2011 Mazda 3 and my galaxy nexus also won't show any track info. I was excited to see that the gnex had bluetooth 3.0 but didn't realize it would only be AVRCP 1.0... My gf's sister has an HD7 and when it pairs with my car it shows all the info and it also has the reading your text message feature so when she receives a text the car will ask "read it or ignore"
Is there anyway to copy bluetooth files that have the AVRCP 1.3 from another phone to ours?

I had CM 7.1 installed on my Desire HD, and AVRCP worked. The screen on my Mazda showed track, album, and artist information information.
This was my first app and recently just overhauled it with a lot of the updates I had been doing to Wave Control. I've gotten great feedback from XDA members on Wave Control, so I'd like to see what you all think of this one.
Update (10/11/2012): Half of proceeds from app sales from October will be donated to Breast Cancer Research

Around Sound allows you to listen to music, watch movies, or play games and still be aware of your surroundings. It's meant for when you're using sound isolating earbuds like Shure or others that are basically earplugs so you have no idea what's going on around you.
It uses the mic on your headset or phone to listen around you. You set how loud a noise needs to be to trigger it. When a loud sound is detected, it pauses your music or movie for a timeout period. During this time, it feeds the outside sound through to your headphones so you can hear what's going on. After the timeout period it then resumes playback.
With games, you can use the non-pause mode which will overlay the outside sounds on top of the current audio. Usually the game audio will lower itself during this time. I would really like for games to support the pause feature. I've reached out to some developers but need everyone's help to request the feature be added to their favorite games.
Play Store Links:
Free Version
Pro Version
Some known issues:
1. Audio lag - when the outside sound is fed through there's about a 500ms delay. It's a known issue with Android. It's rumored to have been fixed in Jelly Bean (or there's some low level API's available to fix it) but I haven't had a chance to play with it yet.
2. Bluetooth Mic Option - Currently only works with mono headsets and not the AD2P kind
Some use cases:
- At the office: pause your music automatically when someone is trying to get your attention
- At home: Don't miss door slams, children crying, your dog barking, or other warning signs
- At the airport: Relax at the gate and have your music or movie pause when the gate announcements start
- Anywhere relatively quiet where you want to know if something happens around you
Permissions Needed:
Network Communications: Full Internet Access (For Ad Supported Version)
Phone Calls: Read Phone status (shuts off the audio processing during calls)
Hardware Controls: Audio Settings, Record Audio (to use the microphone, no audio is ever stored)
Coarse Location(Not GPS): For Ad Supported Version
Write External Storage: For Ad Supported Version
Billing: For in app upgrades
Bluetooth: For Bluetooth mic feature
Broadcast Sticky: For Bluetooth mic feature
Limitations:
-Needs Froyo or Above (Android version 2.2+)
-For Pause Music Mode: You can't be in a really loud environment otherwise the microphone input will be maxed out and there is no way to detect a louder sound. Use Street Mode instead
Coming Soon:
Timeout period Adjustment
Volume control of mic feed during timeout
Developed on a Samsung Galaxy SIII

It will use whatever the available mic is. If there's only the one on the phone it'll use that one. If there's one of the headset then it'll use that one instead.
I have on todo list to put the option to force use of the phone's mic even if there's one on the headset.
Awesome in tat case ill download it now and have a go
Great idea! Thank you so much!

I assume my headset is the A2DP kind, it's a stereo bluetooth headset. I haven't had much luck with any application being able to use my bluetooth mic. I've tried other headsets but they were all stereo bluetooth. I'm using a nexus 7. Is this a planned upcoming feature? Is there a underlying reason why so few apps (any?) seem to support this?

I'm actually getting mixed feedback. Apparently it does work on some phone/headset combos. The way it behaves seems more like a bug in Android than an issue with headsets. I've heard Bluetooth is one area phone manufacturers sometimes tweak so maybe that's what's going on here. I need to get more data to really be sure.
I'd say give it a shot and see if it does work. Maybe Jelly Bean handle BT better.

Ok thanks. Hmm, I just installed it but didn't realize it's a pro feature. Not that I wouldn't buy it, but I wanted to use it with a stereo bluetooth headset, and going by so far with my experience with bluetooth recording in general with jellybean (as in nothing working so far with 4 different headsets) so I suspect it probably wouldn't have worked.
I suspect as well it's an android issue.

So after un-intentionally (really, I swear!) ignoring my girlfriend while playing a game, I realized... I could use Around Sound with games.
So far the non-pause mode works pretty well with the games I play. I'm reaching out to some other developers to include the ability to pause when asked by Around Sound.
I need people's help to request their favorite game dev's to support auto-pause with Around Sound

Great work! Really good thinking mate
I spend 80% time in my office on music and this would definitely help :good:
Just installed it. will test for couple of days and go for pro version, Keep on innovating
October Experiment
Been taking a break from development... though not really by choice.
From my dev blog:
I just got home after a 10 day stay in the hospital for an unexpected (but luckily) minor surgery. Medicine and disease have unsurprisingly been on my mind.
I want to contribute to fields that really help people. But, I’m no doctor or medical researcher. I’m an app developer making apps that I hope people find useful but are hardly life changing. So, how to reconcile these things?
To fill the days during my hospital stay, I began to read Walter Isaacson’s excellent Ben Franklin Biography. (Recommended from here) In it, I was inspired by Franklin’s effort to tie private enterprise with the public good. Creating a win/win situation where both benefited.
And so, the idea was born to give away half of the proceeds from my app sales. This month being Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a perfect time to start. For the month of October, 50% of my earnings from the sales of my apps (including in app purchases) will be donated to breast cancer research.
I hope this will start a trend and other developers will do similar offers.
This is an experiment for this month. If it proves successful and I can still afford to eat, then next month can feature a different cause to support.
I’m excited to finally be able to give back more and make app development have a meaningful impact. This truly gives me real motivation to keep innovating and working hard.
Ideas and comments are most welcome,
Mark
Can you guys help me spread the word about this? Maybe we can change the economics of app development and charity.
Any one heard of a way to make Adapt Sound work globally yet? It is odd to me that I haven't seen any work done on this. It has been one of the more frustrating aspects of my new S4: that all these cool new features that samsung developed only work with their ****ty native apps. Any word on making Adapt (or any of the other samsung features for that matter) global (ie working things like Google Play Music, winamp, etc) would be FANTASTIC!

Android 4.3 has officially been announced – it's been in the wild on Google Play Edition devices for a while, but the unveiling was put off for today. So, what's new? Well, 4.3 is a minor upgrade so it brings minor improvements and refines the user experience, rather than delivering game-changing features.
Multi-user support was introduced in 4.2 and it's updated in 4.3 with the new restricted profiles. A restricted profile can limit what content and apps can be used – even limit in-app stuff like what levels of a game can be played.
The suite of stock apps has been updated - Hangouts now officially replaces Talk and Keep is available out of the box. The Drive, Chrome and Maps applications have been revamped too.
The way Android handles notifications has been changed too. For one, you can view your notification history. Also, third party apps have access to notifications, which will help smart watches and apps that sync notifications across devices.
There are plenty of changes under the hood too. OpenGL ES 3.0 is now supported (Google presented impressive improvements in 3D game graphics) and the graphics stack should be faster overall. For games, Google unveiled the Google Play Games app, which lets you keep track of what your friends are playing and a leader board of achievements in the game.
The "master key" exploit has been incorporated into Android 4.3, of course.
Bluetooth 4.0 with Low Energy mode (low power usage and longer range for low-bandwidth accessories like those fitness tracking gadgets) is now supported in stock Android. Before, each maker had to roll its own drivers. Also for Bluetooth, AVRCP 1.3 is supported, meaning the phone can stream metadata about the currently playing song to the wireless speakers (or your car's stereo).
Wi-Fi can be kept on at all times to determine your position, even when you toggle it off.
A new hardware-based encryption for DRM has been added so content providers will be more willing to stream high-quality content. A new Netflix app is among the first to make use of this and streams 1080p video (it's now available in the Play Store).
An Android 4.3 update will be available on Nexus devices from the Galaxy Nexus up (4, 7, 10, you name it). Google Play devices - Galaxy S4 and Nexus One Google Play Edition will get the update soon too.

Just back to hoping for kernel 3+ and a non-laggy or less-laggy than CM10, since CM10 is much smoother than CM10.1
